Back in the day we had to fill the pits with a torch and brazing rod , boy what a job

Looked like you were putting on a pretty wet coat of paint. That paint must dry very quickly so you can do that without getting any runs. Came out nice !!! 👍👍👍

Nice job Matt, the free T is coming along nicely. Can't wait to see it going down the road. I really appreciate your videos, although I don't mind pits in my 80 year old parts, as long as they don't compromise strength of the parts. But I like a little more natural patina look for the things I drive. Might have something to do with my skill set, I don't have as much talent as some (most). Thanks for the video Matt

Thanks Chuck! A lot of my stuff normally is more of a “patina car” but this one I want to try and make stuff a little smoother/finished. It’s good to have the best of both worlds! Thanks for following along Chuck! -Matt/ITG

Wow Matt, you are becoming quit the painter, great job on the parts. Very impressive you taking the time to make the straight axle look like that. Man I'm drooling to see that thing put back together with all the freshly painted parts and i'm sure you guys are the same way..

Matt; I would highly recommend you get a leather welding jacket or bib or vest when welding and grinding. You appear to be wearing a cotton-polyester t shirt which are easy to start on fire and melt while burning. I am speaking from personal experience as I used to wear a welding helmet while doing heavy grinding with a hand grinder using the clear glass lens in the helmet. I was wearing coveralls over a t-shirt and both were cotton polyester. when I felt the heat on my elbow, I stopped grinding and lifted the helmet as the grinder wound down. The flames were a good 10 to 12 inches high as I tried to beat them out somewhat with the back of my left hand; I still proudly wear the scaring to the back of my left hand and 4 fingers from the melting plastic sticking to my skin. took quite a while to finally heal also

Looks awesome! You should set yourself up a big tub of molasses and water to strip rust off parts, it works awesome. I’ve done all the cab parts of my 28 closed cab pickup.

If you were to chrome the axle. Maybe you could sand blast it clean and fill the roughness with lead. Keep the videos coming. I always enjoy them.

Nice job on the axle Matt! I'm going to drop a '33-'36 axle off to Andy on my way thru to have him drop. I'll be working on my Model A shop truck chassis this weekend, painting the frame and rearend with Eastwood encapsulater and satin chassis black. I went the rattle can route, but looking forward to seeing how it looks!

Idea! Chrome the front axle now instead of later. The chrome will smooth out the pits, save time and labor!

Do you have any over drive units that would work on t he transmission you are running to make driving it easier?

Nah it'll do 60-65 just fine with this gearing and I plan to upgrade to a quick change next summer.

Wouldnt baking soda blasting be faster instead of all that sanding then you could do the feel in i think it would cut down on all the time

That axle is starting to look nice and smooth. Nothing like taking a rusty pitted part and making it look fresh again. Did you ever get a chance to research that tip I sent you?

Couldn't you have used like Black Diamond media in a hand held gravity blaster gun to get the rust pitting out instead of using a carbide deburring tool ?

  • @ericmartin923
    @ericmartin923 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    Hello ,
it would have been easier to sand the front axle, and then pass coating and paint it? the sanding is fast it goes everywhere and it removes all the points of rust
    thank you for your videos

It's looking good, but you know I am getting older by the day I don't know if I can get my '51 done before I leave for a heavenly body or not but someone will have a 239 that will run like a scalded dog as they say here in these N. Ga. mountains, rave on ape sh_t.

Are you aware the Chinese sell a inflatable spray booth.
Then the bloke working in the background doesn't have to enjoy overspray with his life giving oxygen.
I know, hes just a minion, but try to protect the poor things life.
    Or not
    Lol
