- How to Import 3D Objects into Adobe After Effects 24.2.1: A Step-by-Step Guide
Welcome to today's tutorial on a groundbreaking feature in Adobe After Effects version 24.2.1 - importing 3D objects into your projects. This step-by-step guide is designed to help you add depth and dimension to your motion designs by incorporating real 3D models. Perfect for both experienced motion designers and newcomers, this guide unlocks new creative potentials in your work.
Step 1: Prepare Your 3D File
First, make sure your 3D model is in a supported format: GLB, GLTF, or OBJ.
Export your model from your 3D software in one of these compatible formats.
Step 2: Import Your 3D Model into After Effects
In After Effects, go to the Project tab.
You can import your 3D file by dragging and dropping it into the Project tab or double-clicking in the Project area to select your file.
Step 3: Create a New Composition with Your 3D Object
After importing, create a new composition with your 3D object. A Model Settings window will automatically open for further adjustments.
Step 4: Adjust Model Settings
Within the Model Settings window, you can define the object's scale.
Advanced Settings offer further customisation, allowing you to select units from millimetres to miles for precise scale and positioning.
Step 5: Finalize Your 3D Object Settings
Once you're happy with the adjustments, click 'OK' to apply them.
Step 6: Utilize Standard Properties
With your 3D object in the composition, apply standard properties like position, rotation, and scale, just as you would with any other element in your projects.
Step 7: Enhance Your 3D Object with After Effects Features
Add realism and depth by illuminating your 3D object with After Effects lights.
Create dynamic scenes by employing After Effects cameras, offering new perspectives and movement to your 3D models.
Conclusion
Embrace the creative possibilities that come with integrating 3D objects into your After Effects projects. This tutorial scratches the surface of what you can achieve, paving the way for innovative motion designs. Dive into experimenting with lighting, camera angles, and more to bring your 3D objects to vibrant life.

My object works but it's all white like just a 3d silhouette, can you tell me what can I do? thx!
What's super weird is that when imported it will bring some of the materials in but not ALL of them. I'm still trying to import glass and translucent materials. My hunch is that it will only import materials with no transparency settings. Models with 5 or more materials used will have some but not all included.
What if i have errror like cant continiue Advanced 3D plug in generated unexpected exepciot
At first it was not working for me. Make sure to have te very last version of AE, then import to Adobe Dimension first, save it as the same than in the video, and it will work in AE.
thanks bro
How do you add effects to 3d objects in AE?
How do i get rid of the transparent background?
i am exporting from blender, but color textures are not showing in after effects? only white solid what to do?
Hi!! You exporting as gltf? Or obj?
@@MasdLab having the same issue as the fella above, using GLB as neither GLTF or OBJ are working for me, simply refusing to import with no pop up giving a reason
@@brewborn_ Hoo ok! Yours I imagine it's the after effects version. Is it the updated to the most recent one? If it keeps happening. Try to install the beta version and see if the same still happening?
@@MasdLab Found a way to import it in but still the models imported as a purely white texture
I imported my object into After effects but its not moving. Does AE support moving objects?
Hi! No, I don't believe it does yet! I would check the beta version, just in case they made it available on after effects Beta. Cheers
why mine imports without texture? :c
Gosh! Yes, some people are having that problem! It's super weird, where are you exporting from?
@@MasdLab sketchfab

@@MasdLab thanks, I tried a lot of things to fix it but nothing seems to work. Maybe my computer configuration can’t afford to use this 3D feature, don’t know 😅
