One big thing to remember about this film is that they are drawing a TON more content from the original Wicked book by Gregorie Maquire. The musical production completely cut out a bunch of characters and subplots, and with a two-part film, they can reintroduce some of them while also not having to sacrifice any of the musical numbers for time.
They're still doing it as two films. They broke it up into two parts specifically so they didn't have to cut songs, so I'm confident "Dancing Through Life" will remain. SO much plot and character development happens during that song!
I do remember when reading the book, the book did have a snippet from L Frank Baum’s original Wizard of Oz book when Dorothy and crew are meeting the Wizard for the first time and him telling them to kill the Wicked Witch of the West at the very very beginning of the book before the prologue, so maybe that’s why we see Dorothy in this preview? Maybe that’s how they start the movie?
1. This is the first trailer. They wanted to just introduce the movie to everyone. They showed you noticeable characters from the wiz of oz to get “normal” people connected. I think later on they will advertise as two movie or not and just have people surprise when it just ends. 2. I think idina menzel and kristin chenoweth are going to be in the movie.

I am so excited for this I can’t even speak!!! The best way I can describe this is that this movie is my joker, fnaf and Barbie all in one 😁 Also no hate but Galinda’s friends shenshen and pfanne were in both the musical and book it is based off of, which we’re seeing more of in the movie, they have a friend group called the charmed circle 😊

I think this movie is going to be the “Super Bowl“ of movie musicals💚 In my heart, the creative team is going above and beyond to make sure that it does not disappoint the fandom💚
To be fair, while they're clearly big on American musical theatre, all of Jonathan's stage projects have been in the U.K. They could potentially know him from Bridgerton or Fellow Travelers, but (again) to be fair, he's only in one shot in this entire trailer.
I questioned/laughed at the casting of zeta-jones, zellweiger & gere for Chicago. I remember thinking this thing is gonna F-L-O-P! Now I can’t see any other actors in these parts for the movie. I think Wicked will do the same & would not be surprised if there were Oscars Noms for next year
If you haven't read the book, do. It's so long because they went back to the book. The musical, which i love, gave short shrift to some of the main plotlines in order to blow up the Glinda/Elphaba thing. Hence the two parts, because you really can't do the full work justice in 2 hours.
A 6 second snippet is never going hit the same emotional notes that the full number achieves. I like that she didn't just copy what has been done before.
I'm looking forward to seeing how they adapt the show and add more elements from the book! I am not sure how I feel about the playing with the defying gravity ending note as it is an iconic song finale and when you are putting something on film for generations to come I feel it would be better to keep the iconic moments as they are (and i speak as a performer that plays with notes and likes to do my own take on things) xx
I've started the audiobook after it's been on my list to start for ages. I'm lookin' forward to seein' Wicked and I pray it's nothin' like Cats 😢 I got goosebumps watchin' this trailer reaction.

I don't like the visual aesthetic they went for. It needs to be darker to at least REFLECT the source material.
