I haven't been on a board in at least 20 years, then one day the YT algorithm snuck a few skate videos into my feed and I watched it. So many memories came flooding in of 'the old days', which was nice, but I went on my way. Then about a week later it happened again and this time it struck a nerve. So much that I've started browsing for more content and about 2 weeks ago, I order a deck, then truck and hardware, wheels, etc. Now I have a complete and am currently trying to work it into my schedule. Being older has me thinking about things in my life I 'will have' to change, diet and exercise, etc; but I know in the end it'll all be worth it. Glad YT helped to find this video, just to give me so extra motivation and determination that I'm doing something good. Not just for me, but my loved ones too. Keep Shredding.!!!!
Man that’s so RAD to hear! I love it, you owe it to yourself and the good years you have left and more to come by changing for the better! So happy for you brother, this makes me so happy!❤️❤️❤️🛹🤙
I'm 44 and just started again. I've started stretching every day to try and get on top of the injuries. Obviously not back to where I was at 16 but progression is happening. Shuvits are on the way back! th-cam.com/video/7ATFlchiYCs/w-d-xo.html And for the first time I'm trying transition skating (much less impact - until I slam 😆)
Kinda never stopped now 41 years at it now, standing at 48 years young. Greatest gift my dad gave me was himself, time, his character, and a Nash skateboard!! Keep it up brother! Never grow up, skate or die. To all those wanting to get at again past forty! Don’t hesitate!
I still remember my dad, when i was teenager skating around our driveway, saying how much he wished he could learn how to skateboard...he was about 50...i def took it to heart...now i'm 47 and don't plan on ever stopping
Hell yeah brother that’s such a rad story! So funny how back then our dads seemed so much older and now we’re at that age, It’s crazy! Mines passed but I love to hear this brother makes me happy!☺️❤🛹 KEEP SHREDDING!🔥🤘
My dad was so jealous of urethane wheels. Was also giving me his first deck to ride, metal skate wheels. Then he push around on my eighties board like, man this is it. He was an active thirty five. Outside the ramps which he said he was to old for. Then he was always trying to bomb hill in front of our house. When I was about his age then. I was out at skate park all day. Phone died or something and he couldn’t get ahold of me. When I saw him that evening he went off about how I was Californiacated skate bro. I said ya and whose fault is that bro. We laughed and he went off about urethane wheels being so great! He was right. Miss that dude.
Im 45 and just started skating again after 20 + years. It was a little odd feeling skating again. Mostly started in a dark parking lot with no one around. However the more I skated the more I wanted to and the less I cared about what people might think. Idk where it came from , but something sparked my interest in skating again and it definately one of the best things in my life right now.
Man I totally get where you’re coming from! I was the same dude! It was just eating at me until it became something I just had to do. That’s so RAD you are not alone in this brother! KEEP SHREDDING!❤️🛹🔥🤘
I am doing the same thing, but I stood about 15 years without skateboarding. Now... I mean about 3 years ago I started again but with more skills. Doing things that I could not do when I was younger. That is life. I am 44 and will stop skateboarding till I die. I can ride 4 to 5 skateboards at the same time, one on top of another with only one foot on them and push myself kicking the palm trees on the streets... It is really amazing. I also do wind skateboarding taking out my t-shirt and using it as a wind sail because we have a "small" storm over here that happens once a year. So, I take advantage to do it. My next plan is to ride 5 skateboards with one foot while using my t-shirt to do wind skateboarding. Maybe next storm I will do it and make a video. My muscular memory still strong and getting stronger. People over here turn me into some sort of celebrity because of my balance while riding the 5 skateboards with one foot. I am really enjoying my life. No regret at all. I have broken the same rib twice in different years. A lot of pain while breathing but next day I was there skateboarding and listening to music at same time.
I'm 34, from WV, been sk8n for 20+years...I pray the rest of the "adult" world (at least here in WV) can think how we think! You guys should see the looks I get when I hit the streets, and I just look back with a smirk like I dare u stop say something to my "grown/lil" ass..
Absolutely anyone can Skateboard at any age and your right it doesn’t matter what anyone says as long as you are having fun that’s all that matters! Keep shredding brother!
I'm going to be 30 soon and have been skating since I was 8. You're never too old to skate and progress. Although, slamming takes a whole new meaning as you age.
This dude has great hair & teeth! 😁 thanks for making this video by the way, I’m 43 & haven’t skated in about 18 years, I’ve always missed it though & so now that I’ve watched your video I’m definitely going to get back into it, thanks for the motivation! 👍😊
I started again on my 45th birthday. The first month or so was really hard, but it is very rewarding. Thanks for the video, it helps to hear other older skaters stories
Stopped skating at 28 after 15 years. I'm 42 now and just today received my new skateboard in the post. Really looking forward to getting back out there.
Loved the video man! I'm 46 returned to skating 4 years ago. I look at skating the exact same way you described. I did have to have knee surgery a year ago which has brought a new chapter to skating at middle age. I was wearing 187 pads too and still managed to tear my meniscus. It wasn't fun and has since made me very cautious on what I do on a skateboard. I will say that you're more prone to serious injury at 40+, your body stops regenerating cartilage etc after your mid 30s according to my surgeon. It also can depend on how much damage you already have done to your joints. If you just started at 40 you are fine. I did a lot of damage to my knees skating as a kid and more so with snowboarding later. This all depends on the individual so don't take what I say to heart. So go light everyone, skating is rad. But be careful out there we aren't 14 anymore! No matter how hard it is to realize that you aren't going to be able to skate like a teenager again! Some people have it in them, that I can't deny. Just look at all the legends still doing it, granted they also skated like that in their teens so it's not like they are learning much at 50+. I just moved from Seattle to San Diego, Seattle and the PNW have tons of middle aged skaters, it's majority of the scene in that region. Lots of old heads are either back at it or still doing it!
Yeah wise words of advice, I will say I’ve been very fortunate in my pre-teens, teens, 20’s and 30’s stepped away in my late 30’s up until 49. After strengthening my knees loosening up my joints I feel super good and flexible. It’s somewhat surprising to me but I’ll take it. The stronger I get the more billet proof I feel, but I know not to get ahead of myself. Recovering from a shoulder injury and it definitely is taking longer than I anticipated but I guess that’s due to age. Yeah staying within limits until you’re ready to graduate to the next is super good advice.❤🛹
Damn man, I really feel ya even though I'm only turning 27 this year. I just bought my very first skateboard last month. It's really fun and the sense of accomplishment you get is truely addictive. And like you said, for someone who's looking for a reason to be more physically active, it can definitely be a good workout. Can't believe I haven't tried it out earlier..Stay shredding guys! ;)
I'm in my late 30's, started 6 weeks ago. I met a 55 year old yesterday that started 3 years ago. He was rippin' and I thought he was a lifer at first.
I really enjoy your videos. I’m 49 and have had multiple knee surgeries and have been skateboarding again for almost a year. I was over 315lbs about 10 years ago but now I’m 175 and in decent shape. I might not be progressing as fast as I should because I do tend to err on the side of caution to protect my legs, but I can Ollie and do a few tricks. I skate a little street and in diy park locally. I’m having a blast and that’s all that really matters. I’m glad I’m not the only old guy doing it
Brother I haven't ever had someone tell me not to skate. I haven't ever had anyone tell me I shouldn't do anything. Or maybe I wasn't ever listening. ✌️Scott keep ripping Brother
Man we’ve had a different life. It seems like there was always people trying to stop me from doing things for myself. I never understood it but as it turns out it’s a projection of their insecurities and anxieties. I don’t take it personally anymore brother. When I had a so called friend say I was too fat too skate and I should stop trying. Let’s just say I don’t answer his calls anymore!😂 needless to say It’s never stopped me it actually just fueled the fire even more!🔥🤘
2 years back on a board after 12 years off. I’ll be 50 in September. I don’t care what people think bc haters are gonna hate and they can’t beat me 😂. Do what you love. Life is too short.
Man I used to skate 6 hours a day. Then college started, life happened, got hired and I just abandoned it. It's been 20 years but today I am getting my old board to just hop on. If this will help me stop feeling like a crippled 36 year old, fuckit, I will start again. No clue why I stopped in the first place. Thanks for the inspiration!
Sooo interesting to learn how age impacts skateboarding it’s an aspect I would have never thought of had it been for this yt channel. Keep up the awesome videos dude 🤙
Thanks for watching!🔥🤘 Yeah I believe age is just a number as cliche is that sounds. I’ve definitely rolled back the clock. I feel better physically and definitely mentally than I did in my 30’s and 40’s. I’m so grateful❤🛹
Cycling, swimming, and skateboarding: that feeling of flying. "Traditional" sports never really appealed to me, but skateboarding, bmx, and mountain biking have always just hit the spot. Do exercise that you WANT to do and your life will improve and you will feel younger.
I love skateboarding! Its been 3 yrs now since i started from scratch. I love cruising around initially, but now , i just learned how to kickflip better
Great video! I'm 53. My biggest concern is just not getting hurt. Nothing worse than the "I told you so" from the people that tell you're too old. Just got to be careful. But I definitely got the fever back, especially seeing all the og guys getting back into it.
You know I feel that but real talk the I told you so’s are way easier to shrug off than the regret of never pushing it. You also gotta ask yourself do these people really care about my happiness or do they just want me to fail because they care more about being “right” 🤷🏽♂️ This is from someone who had to trim the fat from my life, so trust me I HAD all the I told you so’s in my life but not anymore!💯🎯KEEP SHREDDING!❤️🛹
Great group of nice positive, lift you up people. Not just skateboarder but also shout out to the rollerbladers, rollerskaters, scooters, bikes. Just a great group of positive minded people.
💯 with you..! 50years old i and started skating again after 26years..! For about 6 months now. Its the best thing i ever done..! Everything you said its 100 percent true..!!! Give respect and get respect..! Its always been that way..! Enjoy 🤙
Thx guys.. Skating really save me... From life and the daily grind. After i had a breakdown and got asthma and 5 slipdisk in my back and neck after years of hard heavry work. I forgot who i was.. and what i am.. Skateboarding is one for the reasons why i get up in the morning..! Thanks again
37, skatin since 10. Never stopped. Just take some time off sometimes.. i be shreddin shreddin though. Kept me skinny. 6 pack.. lovely lungs. Stay blessed yall
Im 42 and started skating again 3 yrs ago when my son was born. After not skating for around 20 yrs it was abit hard getting back into it, but after 3 yrs im now landing way more tricks then wat I did when i was younger. Other ths
I think I've got more focus on what I'm doing and understanding how making tricks work or how to move the board might be why. When I skated at a younger age I took it serious but compared to now I think because I'm out there every day I haven't driven a vehicle for 3 years I've skated everywhere
@1:34 I get this a lot and it's so funny. When I tell them i'm into motorcycles, gardening, mountain biking that's great but skateboarding is just too much! LMAO how do you think I stay in shape? Greatest workout ever. a half hour session every day keeps my apple watch calorie burning tracker happy!
Im 47, just bought myself a deck and pads, and I’m starting to skate. If skating is something you want to do, then do it, no matter how old/young you are 👍🏻
Skated from 13 to 16, came back at age 46 now age 48. At this point I am more bowl and transition now as I used to be all flip tricks and gaps as a kid (I wanted to skate transition then, but there were no parks or accessible ramps back then). I will say nothing more gives me more joy than sessioning with my 7 and 12yr olds or meeting up in the evenings at the local bowl sessioning with other guys my age who rip but will cheer you on when you make the smallest trick.
100% agree I’m 45 this year been skating since age of 10 have to say even though I’m past my prime it’s more fun then ever there’s no pressure to progress or to keep up with the rest of the crew
New sub Scott! I am 50 years old too and went back to the skatepark yesterday morning for the first time in decades. Scared the hell out of me at first but after about 20 minutes I started to feel comfortable again. Excited to watch your progress buddy!
Welcome aboard! I love that man, it's crazy the first time coming back! I've gone through a lot in the last 6 months as I know you will. Such an amazing journey so happy for you! KEEP SHREDDING!❤️
Me too. Jumped back on the board a week and a half ago at 49. First 20mins was scary AF as my body tried to remember what to do. By the end of a 30min session I had some sketch ollies down again. Felt great.
I’m 40. I’ve been skateboarding since last October. I love it! It’s all I want to do! I did manage to injure my knee though when collided with another skateboarder at the skatepark. If you have any tips on recovery I would appreciate them 😊❤
That is awesome! Yeah I hurt my knee the first month. Ice it intermittently when you can. Then squats to strengthen and be sure to stretch!🔥🛹KEEP SHREDDING!❤️🤘
So true! Soon to be 46, started skateboarding at 42. I have always been interested in the culture , watching movies and playing all the videogames all my life. But in my small town almost nobody skated growing up. It was forbidden in Norway a long time too😅 But when my son wanted to try, I got the chance to buy myself a board. Instantly hooked! Best thing ever! It has done wonders both physically and mentally. So while he gave up on it after some time, I continued and will continue to skateboard as long as I can walk! Keep pushing!
Lifer ,got benched for over a decade, like the GREAT JAY ADAMS said,SKATEBOARDING DIDNT GET OLD,YOU GOT OLD FROM NOT SKATEBOARDING 🔥🤘🔥i,love ripping the park, still got that all slams no bails mentality, feels great to ache and be sore, your Alive,SK8FAST,SLAM HARD,CHEAT DEATH😂🔥🤘🔥all this go for surfing as well🔥🌄🔥🤘🤘KEEP CHARGING 🔥🔥
Peace, awsome awsome video bro, 100% correct. Very knowledgeable words✌🏻💨Nj732 bro I'm 47 lol just got back on a board after almost 30yrs lol fr fr 89,90,91 were my most amazing times but IV heroin at 16 totally destroyed my life xxxx Allgood I'm 47 on methadone 7 yrs and have a new set up 8.0 deck venture trucks and bones 51 mm yaaaaaaa man ✌🏻💨💨💨be dope to smoke a Lotta blunts and skate w you bro , Respect ya ....DONGER H STREET HELL YAAAA
I’ve been skating for 31 years now and I never quit but I did slow down because of work. I have multiple sclerosis now and I’m still doing it anytime my body will agree with me. Flip tricks are about gone due to the Ms but slappys are my go too now.
i work hard to progress at age 36 but even if all I do is just ollie up & down curbs and do some powerslides it will always feel so good no matter how old I get
Never send it I’m 47 I skate and ride Bmx I did a Superman on my Bmx yesterday a hang , five a tail whip a foot plant and on my skateboard 180 Verial kick-flip al and landed reverse stance stairs gaps Now I’m watching videos from p rod relearning big spins all the Impossibles
Ain't no real requirements to skate. I'm finna be 39 and been at it over 30 years. Always remember some will get it easier than others. And skaters are notoriously bad at teaching how to skate. Keep shedding dude.
Bruh I love this but how do you feel about someone like me who wasn't really good at skateboarding when they where younger tryna get back into it. I mean essentially for me it's like brand new lol
You’d be surprised it’s a pretty level playing field when everyone starts. Like for me the body was not ready or willing to do anything. My muscles had memory loss. But the more I did it the more it came back. Like for you the same but you’ll be building that muscle memory as you go through it. I’m in a perpetual state of trying to build back.
I skateboard and roller skater a 46 .my mum said the same thing .I just laugh .So many older people have poor heallth due to lack of exercise .I dont want to be one of them
This was the newest mention of Kien Lieu I could find. I loved his skating in those H-Street videos as well! th-cam.com/video/vFYZzFsIuDw/w-d-xo.html&ab_channel=esskateboarding
I understand if you can’t skate when your older due to physical condition. But I 100% believe if you start skateboarding at an older age like 20’s / onward and you’ve never skated before your style and tricks have a higher chance of being compromised. For example lil wayne, yeah he knows how to skate but his style is ugly af. It’s all stiff and shit.
Developing style in anything you do takes practice and eventual mastery. Depending on how dedicated and consistent you are 5-15 years is normally the time frame, regardless of age. 🎯
@@scott.skates I don’t think you’re understanding what I’m saying. Lil Wayne is a perfect example. He got into skating in his later years. Yes he’s continued and yeah he’s gotten better trickwise but he still is very stiff looking. There are numerous videos on here of people skating at an older age /progression and their style all looks the same. All I’m trying to say is if you got into skating at a much younger age is different from when you start skating later. Hopefully that makes sense lol. Lastly this is not a dig at anyone and just something that’s been on my mind since forever. I know skating is hard as fuck and it’s truly a blessing to even to just push around.
Too old for what? Other people's opinions? The older you get the more you should shun other people anyways. So do you ftw. I'm 48 I skate everyday. I barley ollie, I just mostly soul carve the mess out of my city. Ooopsy Pooopsy

Let’s just say I don’t answer his calls anymore!😂 needless to say It’s never stopped me it actually just fueled the fire even more!🔥🤘
I restarted again after a break for twenty plus years so glad that I did I'm 48.
That’s so rad! Congrats!🎉 ❤🛹🤘
2 years back on a board after 12 years off. I’ll be 50 in September. I don’t care what people think bc haters are gonna hate and they can’t beat me 😂. Do what you love. Life is too short.
Dude hell yeah haters do be hatin! Had to cut some off recently. We just gotta keep pushing past all that bs!🛹🔥💯
Bro yes pick it back up you got this! Love hearing that!❤KEEP SHREDDING!🛹🔥
Man I love crushing my bmx! I couldn’t agree more! Well said my friend, KEEP SHREDDING!❤️🤘
My kids found my old skateboard and loved their first day out. Im 40. Im concerned (hence, finding this video), but encouraged. Thank you!!
That is awesome! You got this! ❤️🛹🤘
I love skateboarding! Its been 3 yrs now since i started from scratch. I love cruising around initially, but now , i just learned how to kickflip better
Right on it’s a life long pursuit!❤🛹🤙KEEP SHREDDING!
Keep preaching this mate so much truth in what you said here 👏 🤘👍🤙
Thank you brotha! Much love appreciate that!❤️🛹🤘
It's never too late, #oldmanstillcan
47 yo here. Been skating ever since I first saw my buddies vision psycho stick vid. Keep skating my friends.
Wow that takes me back! Thanks for stopping by, KEEP SHREDDING!🔥🛹
Agree bro. I'm coming back after 26 years. Today I am 43 y old and introducing my boy to skateboard, he has 2 y old.
Rad, passing that legacy down! I can dig it. My kids didn't really take to it. Thanks for the comment!❤️🛹
Enjoy 🤙
Im 36 yrs old and i started skating again after 18 years..i start skating again for about 2 monnths now...

@@RANDOM-THINGSXThat’s sick man welcome back!❤️🛹🤘
Thx guys..
Skating really save me... From life and the daily grind. After i had a breakdown and got asthma and 5 slipdisk in my back and neck after years of hard heavry work. I forgot who i was.. and what i am.. Skateboarding is one for the reasons why i get up in the morning..!
Thanks again
Just rolling right now would be awesome, need a board
FYI most core shops have a donation box. Make some calls and see what you can find.🧐
It’s perfect exercise… just gotta take it easy on what tricks you do, cuz a priority has to be not to fall/get injured
Yeah I fully agree, I only want to do a handful of tricks now. Do them really well to mitigate too much error. What are some of your go to tricks?
Thank you for the video i ❤ it 🎉
You're welcome 😊
37, skatin since 10. Never stopped. Just take some time off sometimes.. i be shreddin shreddin though. Kept me skinny. 6 pack.. lovely lungs. Stay blessed yall
Good
Stuff
Brother !!!
Thanks bro appreciate that!🔥🛹❤️
Im 42 and started skating again 3 yrs ago when my son was born. After not skating for around 20 yrs it was abit hard getting back into it, but after 3 yrs im now landing way more tricks then wat I did when i was younger. Other ths
Dude thats a rad story! Crazy how that works any idea why or how?
Hell yeah man welcome back! Skateboarding rules dude! KEEP SHREDDING 🔥🛹🤘
Felt great.
@@DoubleSupercoolDude that’s so sick! The feeling is so bad ass! Happy for you homie!❤💪🛹
Going through this currently! Thank you for posting this. Keep shredding
Keep grinding man it gets easier!❤️🛹🧙🏽♂️
Skating got me moving again. Now I am in the gym and playing basketball as well.
Rad!!❤️
Looking forward to following your journey!
Welcome aboard happy to have you!❤️🛹🤘
@@scott.skates Thanks So much! I can’t wait to get back out there!
I just got 28 and have the urge to buy a deck and I finally did it I bought my dream deck and now waiting for it to arrive
Dude that’s so SICK! Now it begins, HELL YEAH!🛹❤️🤘
@@scott.skates yeaaah the weather isn’t a friend I’m looking for an indoor skatepark 😅
awesome brother thanks a lot wish you all the best !!!!
Thanks bro all the same to you! KEEP SHREDDING!❤️🛹🤙
I've read somewhere a rumor that Kien Lieu is now skating in disguise as a different skater under the pseudonym Tyshawn Jones, If I'm not mistaken.
😂❤
nice good words

Yeah brotha!❤️🤘
I’ve been skating for 31 years now and I never quit but I did slow down because of work. I have multiple sclerosis now and I’m still doing it anytime my body will agree with me. Flip tricks are about gone due to the Ms but slappys are my go too now.
i work hard to progress at age 36 but even if all I do is just ollie up & down curbs and do some powerslides it will always feel so good no matter how old I get
Oh I am 49 yrs young 😂😂😂🔥🤘🔥
Young! Yes that’s the spirit ❤
There is no such thing as "too old." You can do anything at any age and more as you age.
Hell yes thats the attitude bro! So many more need to hear that!🔥🤘
@@scott.skates strongly agreed!
I'm 40 and still skating strong
That’s so sick man! Hell yesss! KEEP SHREDDING!❤️🛹🔥
I start skate in 30's ❤
I'm 51 and still skateboarding, 😅

KEEP SHREDDING!🔥🤘
I'm 49 1/2 right now. Want to be able to ollie decent by 50.
You better get poppin! 🚀🛹🤘
If you look at the bruises that start at my shin and end at my toes from an ankle roll... you will agree... yes .. too old to skate
Hang in there buddy❤
Ain't no real requirements to skate. I'm finna be 39 and been at it over 30 years. Always remember some will get it easier than others. And skaters are notoriously bad at teaching how to skate. Keep shedding dude.
Hell yeah, thanks for the rad comment! Congrats on your 30 year anniversary!🎉 KEEP SHREDDING ❤🛹🔥
@@scott.skates lol that was 4 years ago but thanks. def gonna keep at it. just gotta adapt over the years(decades)
57, and I can skate.
KEEP SHREDDING! Love it brother❤️🛹🤙
@@scott.skates got u. Thanks for the response brotha hope to link with u soon
It honestly depends on your body. My knees were done by 30.
Bummer dude 😢❤
I skateboard and roller skater a 46 .my mum said the same thing .I just laugh .So many older people have poor heallth due to lack of exercise .I dont want to be one of them
โกหกใครก็โกหกได้แต่อย่าโกหกตัวเองน่ะจ๊ะจะบอกให้
No lies bro, bro all truths round here!💯🎯
This was the newest mention of Kien Lieu I could find. I loved his skating in those H-Street videos as well!

Oh yeah him and John Reeves had sick parts! Good looking out man hank you! ❤️🛹

Thank you brotha!❤️🛹
Get some Ronnie!🔥💯🛹🤘
Old to work
