Ronaldinho's greatest achievement and lasting legacy? Making football look like fun. All those tricks and flicks, memorable goals, iconic celebrations and that million watt smile - he made a generation fall in love with the game. His personal vices would create a great What If of his career while the later distasteful episodes made him a figure of controversy. But his peak was the brightest of lights, attracting and indoctrinating countless fans into the Church of the Beautiful Game. That was Ronaldinho
I genuinely feel sorry for those who weren't born, or weren't old enough tonsee Ronaldinho at his peak. He was an absolute joy to watch, and he was having an absolute blast playing the game
watched him at Brazil and at Milan though Milan already had big stars when he was brought but his way of doing things was probably the best till this date he certainly came up with a big reputation but he's someone who can make anyone fall in love with the game
This video really hits home. The only thing i feel that should be mentioned is that, when playing for Atletico Mineiro at age at age 33-34, he lead them to their first - and only, thus far - Libertadores title. Even out of his peak he managed to lead his team to continental greatness. And that is coming from someone who supports Atletico's local rivals, but Dinho was just too magical of a player not to have his achievements mentioned
- Won every individual award - Won every important collective title such as Champions League , Copa Libertadores , Copa America , and the World Cup - Becoming the best player of the world - Making Barca great again - But his biggest achievement was to inspired million of players. There is this video on the premier league about which player inspired them, and 90% said “RONALDINHO”
I feel this fluctuates with era. The generation before the players in the video you talk about mentioned Brazilian Ronaldo as their idol. Before that it would probably have been Maradona, Romario or Platini, and In the same way, the generation coming up now will most likely say that Messi or Ronaldo were their inspiration (Mbappe already says so). Young footballers want to emulate the best in the game and that will never change
To the _"Barca big again"_ point: In the clip they also said _"...the first European Cup since 1992..."_ People tend to forget that the title in 1992 was Barca's first European Cup/Champions League win ever! So 2006 was only their second title overall. While Barca managed to win the UEFA-Cup and the Cup Winner's Cup. They were never a _"big club"_ when it comes to EC/UCL! Not under Cruyff, Maradona or Ronaldo. Yes, the s.c. _"Dream Team"_ won the cup in 1992, like stated before. But their real great times started in 2006. Barca got their blue sleeve badge, for five titles, pretty recently. In 2015 with Messi, Neymar and Suárez beating Juventus _(who lost their 4th final since 1996, with 2017 to come)._ Pretty long text...
Crazy to think that I’m coaching a youth team who were not born yet when Ronaldinho was at his peak. His flair, personality and joy were the reason I got into the game in the first place.
Players like Ronaldinho is what modern football is lacking really. There are so few modern footballers who actually make football fun and make you want to go outside and kick a ball around right after seeing them play. The game has just gotten so bogged down in efficiency and competitiveness that it's lost a lot of the magic. There are still some players out there like it but they're sadly a dying breed.
Very true, im glad it at least evolved to more pressing and running, because the defensive tatics of Mourinho and Benitez period had me fearing for the game, also Guardiola's "only our team can have the ball" possession style
People say if he only had the work ethic of a Christiano Ronaldo he would have been the greatest player of all time, but honestly, if he had that work ethic he wouldn't have been Ronaldinho. That flare and carelessness were just part of who he was as a person - both on and off the pitch. And that is precisely what made him great.
He did have the work ethic, he simply won EVERYTHING there was to win by summer 2006 so he dropped off. I doubt CR7 would be playing if Portugal won the 2018 World Cup
@@sponish0 The thing is, CR7 if he DOES complete the trophy cabinet will have done it at near 38 years old. Don't be surprised if he retires in 2023 if Portugal win the World Cup
The 3 'R's for Brazil in the 2002 World Cup, with Ronaldo, Rivaldo and Ronaldinho at, or near, the top of their game, was a wonderful sight to behold, backed up by the supply of Bobby Carlos and Cafu on the flanks.
And to mention that they did not bring Romario to this WC is unthinkable today. That's how good they were. 3 Ballon d'Or winners in the same team. For me the most notable moment was the standing ovation at Bernabeu. I remember seeing such a beautiful thing for the first time. I think I played football the whole day after I saw that imagining how great would it be if I could be the one who is getting praise from the opponent supporters...
Possibly the most inherent talent in a player ever. His ability to score in big games like breezing through RM several times demonstrates how powerful he could’ve become with the dedication that Ronaldo and Messi have to every practice and match. He brought countless smiles to the world and generated so much interest in the sport and I would smile when I played with friends because he always seemed to enjoying himself like football should be
He’s before my time but his influence is very obvious. For one I don’t think Neymar would’ve been as skillful and captivating as he is without Ronaldinhos influence on the game. Not to mention a whole host of young Brazilian footballers who would’ve been influenced by him.
But players in Brazil now don’t give a threat during the World Cup anymore. Last time during Ronaldinho time if u see Brazil come u knew it’s always in a bag either Brazil gonna qualify for semi or straight finals. Now so many young abled players make good name for themselves in clubs but can’t play together as a country. What happened to that flare and magic people want to see Brazil enjoying football that winning is just a bonus.
@@edster8416 I think this young World Cup team is finally playing with the ginga style I grew up used to. Definitely the closest since the amazing 06’ team, and they have many years ahead of them Vinicius, Richarlison, raphinha, Antony, and rodrygo will only get better from here
Same here ...he's the same age as I am ...I started loving the game later when he was in Barcelona "jogo bonito" commercials back in 2006 ....still all these years I watch Brazilian soccer because of him .
@@beejohn1016 same. I didn’t come to the game until after WC ‘06. Found Barca through a church friend and I was blown away. He and Henry have been my faves ever since.
@@toomuchdebt5669 I'd say he was more the Sophocles or Aristophanes of the footballing world! Pure entertainment on the pitch. Zidane could be the Picasso imo.
I mean, you can watch the highlights today, but there was something really special about watching the games live and knowing that, at some point, he would do something completely magical.
I remember that after coming home from school, I used to watch Ronaldinho videos on TH-cam until bedtime. Peak was the Joga Bonito videos. He, together with Cristiano Ronaldo, truly defined the start of my love and affection for football to this day.
I remember watching him play in Barca as a kid and every time he touched the ball I was glued to the screen to see what he would do next and he made me love the game even more. One of a kind and the most entertaining player i have ever watched, the true embodiment of "joga bonito" that always played with a smile and certainly made me smile when watching him work his magic.
He is the embodiment of entertaining football that nowadays could not achieve. Aside from his disciplinary problem he is the reason that make people loves watching football eventhough you are an opponent fans.
In terms of raw technical ability, vision, and creativity, no player in the history of football has ever reached the peak of Ronaldinho, even if it was short lived.
My favorite player is dinho himself but I have to admit that all of creativity and vision was poured into Messi. Messi took what he learned and applied it with hard work which was the only thing dinho was lacking . All though Messi as of late has been shying away from being creative for being effective and efficient
In Brazil he was really bad in Flamengo, but in Atlético Mineiro he helped the team to win their first and only Copa Libertadores in 2013, and was the last season that he played in a good level.
@@toomuchdebt5669 in Flamengo he didn't show any of this, it was just parties every night, that's why he left for an smaller club, but in Atlético he played like he used to.
He was good for Flamengo until they started delaying his payments. Then began a phase in which they pretended they paid him and he pretended he was playing. After he manged to get his contract resigned he went To Atletico and made history there.
The memories of ronaldinho I have is the goal he scored against England and my team chelsea. I find it really frustrating that people talk about him as if he was a failure, the man won everything
Ronaldinho is easily the most skilful footballer I have ever seen. Wonderful dribbles and street football tricks aside, the man had a world-class first touch and an incredible eye for passing as well, while also possessing a knack for goals. He just made football look so, so easy. His short-lived prime was and still is one of the greatest I have ever witnessed as a football fan - when he was on fire, nobody came close.
Oh man, this really hit home for me, especially given that I'm Brazilian. Every single detail mentioned in this video brought the fondest memories to my heart. We call him "o bruxo" (the witch, or the wizard), and if you remember him on the pitch, I don't have to explain why. People talk so much about "what else" he could have done if he were somehow different, but at the same time, a different man couldn't possibly have been Ronaldinho. As a famous band from his home city says in a song, "somos quem podemos ser, sonhos que podemos ter" (we are who we can be, the dreams we can have). He was just magical. A true wizard. Never to be forgotten.
I love your video essays, but you gotta be kidding me that you just encompassed his 2 years at Atlético Mineiro into just a 15 second blurb. There was a great story on how he left Flamengo because of his salary being behind, went to the team store and removed all of his merch by hand. 6 hours later he was Atlético Mineiro training center signing a contract and training for the first time. He goes on to finish second in the league with a crazy title race, next season win the libertadores and set the team up to win a domestic cup, both inaugural titles for the club.
I was never a football fan...never really liked the sport at a young age...untill one day someone showed me a clip of Ronaldinho doing crazy things......I was a die hearted football fan of him....i suddenly found myself going to the football field, trying the tricks he does.....I then became a fan of Barcelona,...there I met Xavi, Iniesta, Messi, Eto, Puyol...I became a fan of football because of Ronaldinho......he is a Legend at least in my book!...hope to meet him someday.
A big part of me wishes he took his career more seriously as he was the most skilled player I ever seen play and played the purest form of football. Then again, if he did, his style would probably have been a lot different and I'm glad we got to enjoy him being himself and inspiring so many people to fall in love with the game again!
truly, this man is the greatest footballer i've ever seen. i'm not an old head by any stretch, but i've not enjoyed football as much since he left Milan
Though his peak was short lived, I don’t think it could have been different. His football oozed fun, because that was who he was including off the pitch. If he would have been more disciplined he could have been more like messi, more efficient and a longer career, but losing the exceptional flair. There is no player like him.
Yeah, seeing football now depends more on the system the team plays, players like Ronaldinho may not be able to enjoy the game as much as he did during his prime.
there was never a fall of Ronaldinho! in 2013 when everyone thought he was done and eight years after he won the Ballon d'Or, he led Atletico Mineiro to their only Copa Libertadores and was voted Best South American Footballer of the Year!!! Best Brasilian Player in 2012!! Top assist provider in Copa Libertadores in 2011 and 2012!!! That's not easy to achieve, but easy to overlook if you are European-centric. Ronaldinho is the soul of football - the real best ever! Maradona knew this - that's why he kissed his hand!
@@A21Joker Clearly he wasn't the best because he never trained with his teams! He had talent, but no discipline. He got what he deserved. Everyone that people call the GOAT, from any profession, trained consistently and you'll still hear their name mentioned today. Ronaldinho? He got ratioed. I forgot about him.
@@Frank1. that you forgot about him doesn't mean the world forgot about him. so, training consistently is your criteria and Maradona just falls into that category, doesn't he? Ronaldinho won everything and won it in style.
Perhaps the most talented player ever. Your comparison to Maradona seems quite spot on. Imagine the player he could've been with the work ethic of someone like Messi.
Broke my heart scoring against England in 2002. Then a few years later he scored that goal against Chelsea and I couldn't quite believe what I'd witnessed. Immense talent.
I remember watching that el Classico live when Ronaldinho got his standing ovation. He truly was something unbelievable. I know it might sound controversial but I think he was perhaps the best player of all time. He didn’t have the consistency compared to Messi or Ronaldo but me oh my those few seasons at Barca were seriously seriously special.
Forever and always my favorite player. Dinho never reach the heights of Messi or Ronaldo, but he made me and millions others fall in love with the sports. Every now and then I watch his old clips, and he always playing with a smile on his face. Also could've mentioned his serie A and copa libertadores achievements.
He didn't rise and fall in his career ...absolute legend ...people keep searching for a greatest of all time...Ronaldinho is one of the greatest...he chose to not be called one because of his humility. World champion and an incredible amount of titles....amazing talent...I'd say he did well for the sport and for himself. An athletic god.
Even though Ronaldinho won the World Cup, Balon D'or and numerous individual and collective awards it still wasn't enough in the eyes of people because of his incredible talent and potential to be so much more.
Ngl, this video make me feel so nostalgic. When I was a kid until teenager, after we watched some matches, we will discuss about them at school. My friends were big fans of Ronaldinho. Such good memories.
Ronaldinho is the man that made Joga Bonito effective...he had a love with the ball rivaled only by Maradona...and gave Messi the confidence and mentoring needed to flourish... Ronaldinho with the ball at his feet is love and joy in its purest forms
I still remember he had those weight issues with ac Milan... It was so sad to see him let go.... This man was a great barca player and got a standing ovation from madristas at the bernabau... That was how great he was
I'm catalan, and here we're introduced to Barça since the day we're born. I was just a very young child when Ronaldinho arrived and had no idea about footbal outside of Barça, but I remember the euphoria around him, he was our hero, all kids loved him. One of the very first memories I have as a child is being given a cake with an image of Ronaldinho on it, it was amazing. It's funny to think how little did I know but what a fan of him I was, and how, when Messi started apperaring, he was only a side character in Ronaldinho's world for me.
Gosh it was an absolute pleasure watching 'Dinho play. Lots of childhood memories going to school the next day and saying to your friends, "did you see what Ronaldinho did?"
I remember the Chelsea goal like it was yesterday, I was one of only a few times in football I looked on In Disbelief, it was insane, and against probably one of the strongest defences on the planet and arguably the best keeper
The most entertaining player to watch in my lifetime. Not necessarily the most consistent but for three seasons between 04 and 06 I've not seen someone make the game look so easy. Pure entertainment!!
I think that asa brazilian it is my responsibility to recommend everyone that hasn't watched his 5x4 win in the Flamengo vs Santos game to watch it urgently, it wasn't talked about enough in the video and it is still considered in Brazil one of the best league games in history, it was truly iconic, Neymar won a Puskas award from a goal in that game as well.
He is the reason i started to love football. His game was pure joy. The curly ball flying to the net, his hair dancing around as he dribbles, the wide smile he seemed to keep the entire game. In what concerns to football HE IS the definition of ‘good old times’
Ronaldinho is synonymous with football in a lot of ways. I'm 22 so I'm juuuust young enough to not really remember his prime with Barça, but nevertheless he was still the idealized image of the "best player" in my kid brain: he was on the cover of all the games, I'd be trying to copy his playstyle on the playgrounds, his free kicks, etc.... his prime itself was short but in a weird way it didn't matter, because he left such a strong and long-lasting impression (a little like Maradona before him, I suppose). He was the last romantic football superstar, right before social media took off, and at the turning point of the game becoming sanitized, with teams that all play slight variations of the same boring, efficient style, and players being micromanaged by handlers that carefully curate their public images. Ultimately the reason he converted a generation of kids into football fanatics is because he seemed to play the game for the same reason a kid does: because it was fun. That has a beauty to it.
We had a similar childhood bro I’m 22 but as a kid Ronaldinho was a myth, playing fifa 08 with a prime Ronnie in Barca was an unmatched feeling. I don’t think kids today will truly ever grasp how legendary Ronaldinho was as a footballing figure. the tricks and the TH-cam compilations left us enamored with Dinho
Man, you guys really skiped Ronaldinhos Atletico Mineiro time ! One of the most magical moments in his career in my opinion, and I'm a Cruzeiro suporter ! Shame on you ! He didn't win anything for Flamengo, on Atletico he lead them to their first Libertadores title, with teamates, coach and suporters that understood and embraced him and it was probably the last time he played in a high level and took the sport seriously. Its a complicated topic, especially when people talk about players having fun and going out like its an acusation. Although in Ronaldinhos case, missing training was the real issue. If you show up to train, is fit, and perform on the pitch, what you do on your personal life is no one's business. There is also the problem of how people judge guys like him like he had an obligation to fulfill your expectations for what he could have been, he lived his life like he wanted, payed the price for his mistakes, and it matters only to him if he's at peace with that or not, or if he wanted more out of his career or not.
Ronaldihno is the reason I fell in love with the game. Will forever be my pick for the greatest player. Not the best player as that goes to Pele, Messi, Ronaldo, etc. But in terms of impact he had on me and many people I know. El Brujo de Porto Alegre is on top for me
Ronaldinho was the first video on TH-cam to reach the mark of 1 million views in 2005(?), which is insane at that time. It was a sponsor who gives him a new boot and he shoots the ball four times in the crossbar. One relic from old TH-cam.
He's the reason I started watching football ❤️He didn't just kick the ball around, he was flirting and dancing with it. What a magician and how truly blessed were those who were able to see him in his peak.
That’s not what happened. He became more interested with the money and party life. Drugs and women. He didn’t prioritize the game over the drugs and women that the game allowed him to have… that’s literally the story everyone seems to reiterate. And it seems to happen to a lot of people. Get off ur high horse. He in many ways is a failure because he owed us more
@@AliSubhi-xs4rn lol . Young man probably grew up after his prime days so it is easy for you to say such. Even Messi said he learned a lot from him .He showed us a whole new side of football. Atlesst he made me a football fan
As a kid born in 1997, Ronaldinho was the player every kid pretended to be on the playground. I remember always trying to imitate his toe-poke vs Chelsea, even doing the little dance he did to duke the defenders. His Ballon D’or win maybe entirely unique, he won it not just because of his stats or for sentimental reasons but because he made the game a pure joy to watch, and he was able to entertain us so much whilst still performing so dominantly. Whenever he got the ball you’d paid attention cause’ he always did crazy stuff no other players would try.
This guy played with joy and just expressed himself on the pitch. It was contagious. It made fans feel like they were kids again watching their friend on a playground. For me -- when he wanted to actually play... he's the most natural footballer I've ever seen in my life. Not the best, but no other player has had the ball be an extension of his body quite like Ronaldinho Gaúcho. Obrigada!
He would have been easily considered one of the top 5 players in history if he had focused on his playing. Not only a fun watch, but a player with an incredible sum of capabilities: he had Zidane's sense of space and tactics, Messi's control of the ball (or better), Bergkamp's creativity and Cristiano's speed. He is the best player I have ever seen at his peak, by far.
All the football freestylers are there in this world rightnow, more than 90% of them started freestylein bcoz of him and hold him as an Inspiration. One among them is me, and his legacy will definitely continue even after many generations..
In 2003 i saw Ronaldinho live twice in a week but it wasn't til I saw him on the tele lifting the the European Cup that I properly realised how great he was. For 2-3 years he was the best on the planet. Absolute legend. Hope he's ok and having a party wherever he is.✌️
World Cup Copa America UCL Ballon d’Or He has won everything that needed to be won for a football player, his fall is understandable…there is nothing left to play for
I almost cried, man. What a legend, he and Jay Jay Okocha were must watch. You just wanted to see what crazy trick they would try in a game. Sad that he and many great Brazilian players of that era didn’t have the longevity, but they didn’t need it, what they did in their time, players can’t do in 20 years
I can go on and on, but do yourself a favor and search Ronaldinho's Atletico's highlights...shades of Barcelona 05/06. His 2 years at Atletico Mineiro were magical. I'm proud to say that i could witness Ronaldinho played with the shirt of the team i love and man, there was games that the Barcelona flair showed up again. Like the videos says, in the big games he was possessed, search for his performace against Fluminense in 2012 and Figueirense, that is not a big club, but his father in law had just pass away, the fans pay homage to him as the players enter the field and something click it and at a performance it follow it. A iconic scene it was his scoring a amazing screamer from outside the box and falling in his knees praying and crying, then after the game going to the front of the stands and thanking the ultras.
Who can forget his incredible free kick goals followed by his big smile! Watching him play bring joy, as most Brazil teams.. smiling, dancing, playing and enjoying themselves with creativity.
He is one of my all time favourite players to watch , I was lucky enough as a teen to watch him play against Chelsea in the CL in 04 I think it was at the bridge.
He's the one who made me love football. I didn't know much about everything else, but the football? Just magical. That's all it took to change the world.
Ronaldinho made me fall in love with the game when I was a kid, I remember watching his games (whenever they were on, cause here in Brazil la liga/ligue 1 games weren't on as much as they are today) and feeling pure joy, and as soon as it was over I would be all over the house trying to imitate his dribbles and style. Truly the one that changed it all for me in football.
For non-brazilians: - watch the highlights of the Flamengo 5x4 Santos game, one of the greatest ever in Brazil -One missing information in the vídeo was that Ronaldinho won the Copa Libertadores in 2013 with Atl Mineiro in one of the most amazings runs in tournament history, losing almost every 1st leg just to make crazy comebacks in the 2nd leg, even in the final. Viva Ronaldinho!
The best the game will ever see. Nobody has had a higher peak. There was nothing that man couldn't do with a football. Happy he played in a time before the obsession with statistics too. For me, he will always be the GOAT
Just a little note, from a brazilian fan: at Atlético Mineiro, he was mostly the responsible for the 1st Taça Libertadores da América they won, which is the Champions League of the South America. He was number 10, the most important and experienced player. Nowadays, he is a nationwide idol, but the club he's most identified with is Atlético Mineiro by a long stretch.
Even after partying and missing training session he's still at the top imagine him without any party or with a great mindset , he would be better than any other player
Having seen Ronaldinho live in his prime in Champions League in 2005/2006 season was one of the football memories I will never ever forget! What a gamechanger he was!
His prime was short but the emotions he gave us ... Joga bonito. We dont see that today anymore. Football is less "fun" and about stats goals and assists only.
He may not have had the longest career but he went right to the top and won all the big honours. He should feel no regrets, everybody saw his greatness
if you dont like this guy then you dont like football its honestly that simple. played with a smile on his face and did things on the pitch that you would be trying with your mates the next day. outsatanding footballer
At his peak there he was unbelievable and was up there as one of the best if not the best player in the world. The strength and skill was outrageous when he was at his best. Rivaldo the real ronaldo and him. Prob the best front 3 ever to grace the game.

Jay Jay okocha and Rene higuita's scorpion kick save to name a few. Things you'll never see in football again

Possibly the most inherent talent in a player ever. His ability to score in big games like breezing through RM several times demonstrates how powerful he could’ve become with the dedication that Ronaldo and Messi have to every practice and match. He brought countless smiles to the world and generated so much interest in the sport and I would smile when I played with friends because he always seemed to enjoying himself like football should be
Younger people have no idea how influential Ronaldinho was for an entire generation of football fans, specially here in Brazil.

Those few prime years he had at Barça were soooo much fun to watch!
I mean, you can watch the highlights today, but there was something really special about watching the games live and knowing that, at some point, he would do something completely magical.
We still watch them over and over again on TH-cam. Just simply magical.
In a 100 years time, people will still talk about him. He was that unique of a player...
I mean he just makes you want to watch, play, laugh, smile, dance, party, live. Legend
It was never about trophies . Ronaldinho was all about talent and sportsmanship. People loved that.

Ronaldinho is/was the type of inspiration everyone needed. He was so good, he could inspire anyone.
Peak Ronaldinho was untouchable, just a shame his peak only lasted a few years. He still makes my top 5 players of all time
Ronaldinho is easily the most skilful footballer I have ever seen.

Probably he would be like Messi.
truly, this man is the greatest footballer i've ever seen. i'm not an old head by any stretch, but i've not enjoyed football as much since he left Milan
There was nobody quite like him. The talent, the flair, the charisma. Unparalleled in so many ways.
He is the reason i started to love football. His game was pure joy. The curly ball flying to the net, his hair dancing around as he dribbles, the wide smile he seemed to keep the entire game. In what concerns to football HE IS the definition of ‘good old times’
In a short career, he made a case for GOAT status. Only argument against it is longevity.
Ronaldinho's strength in one sentence: He brought futsal skills on an outside pitch and he's been the best at it, if not the only one.
Not a fall of grace like Adrian Mutu or Adriano, just loss of form. Overall he was by far one of the greatest player in his prime.
He simply just lost all his motivation after winning everything
That’s a good excuse while R9 came back from a career ending injury and still had WC seasons/winning a WC
That’s not what happened. He became more interested with the money and party life. Drugs and women. He didn’t prioritize the game over the drugs and women that the game allowed him to have… that’s literally the story everyone seems to reiterate. And it seems to happen to a lot of people.
