I am an avid Liverpool FC-fan since end 80's, but I must say that when thinking about a captain thats stood out to me in an utmost positive way, Puyol is actually the first captain that comes to my mind, even ahead of Steven Gerrard. Puyol's presence on the field (and off the pitch) and the way he spread his winning mentality to the rest of the players, especially those right next to him, was simply top notch. One other fact about him that made me applaud him even more, was how he didn't tolerate nonsense behaviour from his teammates. There are many examples on how he either pulls up a fake-injured teammate, "kicks his ass" and gets him to play on or when his teammates are arguing with the ref and being stupid, he just shoves them away and tells them to focus on the game. I loved seeing him do that. What a brilliant cap'n he was. A true legend, without a doubt.
Yup. I remember once someone threw a lighter at Pique. Pique picked it up and was complaining about it to the ref, who wasn't paying attention. Puyol took the lighter from Pique, threw it, and told Pique to defend as they were defending a corner.
I remeber once Thiago and Alves were celebrating a goal amd goofing around making an obvious mockery out of it and puyol shove them and gave them a lecture on respecting the rival.

Great video about one of the greatest defenders of all time! A real man, unique - servant of his club, knight who exemplified the virtues, who sacrificed himself for the good of his club - FC Barcelona! Thank you so much Carles Puyol!
As a Madrid fan I have nothing but respect and admiration for Puyol... He was the Lion in the heart of the Spanish defense of Euro 08 and WC 2010 and was always a class act and top notch defender ...
A Barcelona fan here. I've been saying that Barcelona haven't had a captain since Puyol retired. He definitely was the glue that connected the team, a real leader that not matter the score he gave it the 100% on every game and he expected the same from you. Definitely no one like El Capitan.
people always talk about Spain's midfield during that time but their defense was arguably just as stacked with Puyol, Sergio Ramos, Pique, and Casillas behind them.
I believe Puyol is one of the reason why his partnership with Sergio Ramos worked. El Classico is the peak of rivalry back then but somehow the CB of Barcelona and CB of Real Madrid become the rock to win World Cup. England failed to do that spectacularly.
Puyol was amazing, only few defenders have made me scream in joy with a perfect sliding tackle or when he used to scold his teammates for mocking at their rivals and/or when they celebrate with dance moves. He was a true gentleman and a fierce warrior at the same time, i remember i started watching Barcelona's matches because of Dinho and him, even thou i'm from South América...
I remember one of the first claims for glory for Di María at Real Madrid and one that really cemented him as a great player there was that he was able to sit Puyol with a dribble. It was a heck of a dribble, but done on a player already far from the best due to his knee problems and everyone knew it. That everyone realized how much of a spectacular dribbler Di María was because he had been able to dribble past a crippled Puyol only speaks loads about up to which point he and his defensive skills were revered. One legged Puyol was heads above almost every other central defender in the world. And about him leaving the club because of his knee problems...others at the club could've taken example from it. Like a certain Umtiti, an incredible defender that destroyed his career due to not wanting surgery for a serious knee condition, only to milk the club out of every single euro for the following 5 years. Yep...Puyol was one of a kind.
Puyol’s header during the World Cup against Germany astounded my teenage self. I swear he came out of nowhere and I always thought that goal was the most important for Spain. I’m glad to find I wasn’t the only one
As Real Madrid fan, even did we respect him. He represents the authentic values of sport. You should have talked about the years Mou vs Pep, the violent rivalry between teams and how Puyol never was involved. Even on that times he was respected by Madrid supporters and he always pushed to calm down the situation.

It's rare players like Puyol, a true gentleman in and out of the pitch, that make the beautiful game beautiful. There will never be another one like him. Had an amazing game at RB in the 2009 Champions League vs Man U. Locked down that flank and was making overlapping runs. Didn't need pace, his football IQ was so high.
I was still in high school when Puyol made it to the Barcelona first team and play right full back. He just caught my attention right from the start. Those curly long hair, running relentlessly and defending with all his heart for the club. I admired him so much, I insisted to play on right back for my team in high school. As a Barcelona fan since I was little, and following the club since the 1992 dream team, for me, Puyol is the ideal personification of a Barcelona player. He is our true Barcelona captain.
If I were Xavi I'd be calling Carles so he can whip them into the best defense in the world. These guys have talent but I still haven't seen the pure dedication of Puyol in them.

Barcelona was nothing without Puyol. People was give the success of Barcelona to Messi and Ronaldinho but they don't know about the man who worked selflessly for the club.
As a Catalan, Puyol is truly the greatest example of what our true core values are, hes the greatest captain Barça has and will ever have, and I love him so much for all of it. He has always been a role model, truly one of a kind.
Puyol just disappeared after retiring, thoroughly sums up his entire career, wasn't flashy, delivered what he was asked for, most importantly had the ethics which his dad taught him, wonderful story
This kind of story motivates me a lot.. Yeah you are not the greatest but I can work harder and almost twice harder than others.... May you all get the results of your hard work.
Yessssss❤❤❤❤… at a time when only messi was found on the back of Barca tops … i was sporting Puyol 5 on the back 😂😂…nothing gets me harder than a solid no nonsense centre half
Puyol said that the players around him were the superstars, but I would say that he was the real superstar of those Barca teams and he made everyone around him look like a superstar. He was the heart & soul of the club! Guys like Puyol are generational talents!
Puyol was my favourite defender and player since I was a child. He was a true warrior with principles and integrity. A true man, leader, and legendary defender.
Care about trophies, accomplishments, or anything. This man together with Ronaldinho was my hero. He was the epitome of what a football player was to me. There was only a couple other legend like Zidan we truly had that further that love for the game that truly beautiful love for the game that is not nonexistence nowadays, but it’s just not the same it’s a business, it’s not a thing of passion it might’ve been at the start when all these kids were 11 or 12 but now it’s just a business. Geez and here I thought the Anime Blue Lock was a fantasy towards how players are selected. As a non soccer fan I had no idea. Incredible journey truly an inspiration. Wow! More than an inspiration I just finished the video. What an incredible man. I'll admire Puyol now forever.
"Oh Captain! My Captain!" Although I have started following football and fell in love with Barcelona during the era of Romario and Stoichkov, we have never had such a determined and loyal player/captain as Carles Putol! He is the only defender in the qorld I would put on the same level with Maldini. Was respected by both sides of supporters and players and was controlling all his team mates actions! A true leader 👏 🙌 ¡Respeto, querido Capitán!
There is one player who is kind of like Puyol in terms of his aggression and determination, and he also plays for barca right now. And he happens to be 19 years old and recovering from injury. HIs name is Gavi.
hey man after this one that is the first one i see i dont think you could do other after him. I saw his debut against Real Madrid being a kid and was the same year that Figo fled and he completly overpowered him. Only 17 years old. As a Barcelona fan since I was little, and following the club since the 1992 dream team, for me, Puyol is the ideal personification of a Barcelona player. He is our true Barcelona captain.
15 years later we have someone just like him called cubarsi 🔥
Nah, Gavi is like him. Cubarsi is the improved version of Pique.
dude dont jinx it. let the boy grow his talent
@@anggarafitra6670 honestly
He hasn't even played 20 matches yet. He's good, but still needs to put in a lot of work and effort to even come close to Puyol's average form.
If I were Xavi I'd be calling Carles so he can whip them into the best defense in the world. These guys have talent but I still haven't seen the pure dedication of Puyol in them.
if this video isnt a testament to how ANY sport should be played, I dont know what is.. Don't worry about fans, the other team, distractions of any sort, ... just play your hardest and your best you can that game at that moment in time, the rest is up to God and will work itself out.. another great video buddy thanks for sharing!
Life is not always like that
Lmao
@@Codemanlex how so?
@@johnlombardo7816 life doesn’t care how hard you work or how determined you are.
Not saying you can’t make it to the top, but always remember you can not always have your way
Ive been lucky to have met puyol on an occassion and have dinner with him, he was gentleman in and outside the pitch. He was an incredible man who deserved everything in the world and I believe he has gained a spot as one of the three greatest defenders ever, along with being barça's and even spain's best captain.
Welcome to an episode of things that never happened...
@@a.demifemiflapo5795 We apologise for the rerun of "Someone being doubtful of something fairly plausible happening on the internet", but fresh programming is still in production.
Greatest Spanish and La Liga defender in my opinion!!
He was the last of his kind."THE REAL DEFENDER". As always the one and only LIONHEART.
Thank you I really enjoyed this. As a Man U fan I was gutted when he didn't come. But I still have the utmost respect for this iconic hardman and a true gentleman . A great inspiring humble man and definitely one of the best defenders of all time. A Unique loyal legend and leader.
Thanks for making this video, Puyol has been my favourite player for so long, a lot of people doesn't understand how hard he fought. And this thing you say that there were never will be another player like Puyol, i think there might be one, he's too young to say it but... Gavi has proven us that he will put his life in risk for the team, now with time we'll see if he stays loyal. Respect for all of our players that are fighting day after day to give their best
Barcelona was nothing without Puyol. People was give the success of Barcelona to Messi and Ronaldinho but they don't know about the man who worked selflessly for the club.
I just love watching all of your videos. Recently found your channel and I'm so addicted. An absolute must for every football lover
Puyol was the most humble guy
Your intro always gets me. "Now listen to this". Its unique...in addition to your indepth content. Keep it up
Gavi is surely become one like him oneday. That guy's passion for club is huge
So much love and respect for this man! What a human being!
Lovely video but could you make one about abedi Pele? I’ve been asking for some time now would real appreciate it
That ghanyan star

Been waiting for this one🥹my 🐐
One of the greatest defender
Man! I love your writing! Thanks
0:42 what? that van Persie said for Vidić
Nice video, hello from Valencia
Another banger🎉🎉
This kind of story motivates me a lot.. Yeah you are not the greatest but I can work harder and almost twice harder than others.... May you all get the results of your hard work.
Kamikaze style defenders like Puyol and Vidic are my favorite
Yessssss❤❤❤❤… at a time when only messi was found on the back of Barca tops … i was sporting Puyol 5 on the back 😂😂…nothing gets me harder than a solid no nonsense centre half
When puyol didn’t slap the guy back I knew instantly he was a follower of the Lord Jesus Christ
Puyol said that the players around him were the superstars, but I would say that he was the real superstar of those Barca teams and he made everyone around him look like a superstar. He was the heart & soul of the club! Guys like Puyol are generational talents!
man I love hearing that "So, listen to this..."
You sound like you're trying to not wake up your parents
hahaha literally my thoughts during the whole video
Puyol was my favourite defender and player since I was a child. He was a true warrior with principles and integrity. A true man, leader, and legendary defender.
Puyol is the thing Barca is missing
Care about trophies, accomplishments, or anything. This man together with Ronaldinho was my hero. He was the epitome of what a football player was to me. There was only a couple other legend like Zidan we truly had that further that love for the game that truly beautiful love for the game that is not nonexistence nowadays, but it’s just not the same it’s a business, it’s not a thing of passion it might’ve been at the start when all these kids were 11 or 12 but now it’s just a business. Thank you Carlos thank you the last of his kind creature the bull of Catalonia.
a highly principled man, incredible.
people like puyol are exceedingly rare. once you find one you'll notice it. keep them close to your heart.
Puyol is the Greatest Captain (Day 10 or 70 of asking for a video about Cafu)
Iconic voice man 😂🔥🙌,I can feel the passion and details . Can't get bored listening 💯👍.
Beautiful. The respect this guy deserves ♥️ A Barcelona legend till the end of times ♥️ The Lion 🪨
Following you since last 2 years, great going brother. Love from India
I am absolutely happy I got a chance to watch Puyol play through his career, he was special…I enjoyed every moment of Barca in the 2000’s
A true leader 👏 🙌
¡Respeto, querido Capitán!
3:15 greatest words i have ever heard in my life
Love your videos bro. I watch them regardless of whether I'm interested in the player or not.
Puyol and Márquez were the best defender duo in the world, perfect blend of technique and brawn
There is one player who is kind of like Puyol in terms of his aggression and determination, and he also plays for barca right now. And he happens to be 19 years old and recovering from injury. HIs name is Gavi.
Puyol and Marquez duo was insane
I think Dani Olmo is Spain's new guardian angel , after that last minute header off the goal line & just the way he played.
Great vid I’ll be checking out the rest of the channel
Great series man
I must say "players around me, they are the superstars" is soo deep leadership skill
hey man after this one that is the first one i see i dont think you could do other after him. I saw his debut against Real Madrid being a kid and was the same year that Figo fled and he completly overpowered him. Only 17 years old. For me he is one of the greatest leaders in Barcelona history as in Spanish selection. He was a beast
One of the greatest gentleman to play the beautiful game❤ Carles Puyol!
There are no more players like him because parents don’t teach kids to be brave, selfless, kind, respectful, hard working, dedicated, hungry, and most of all, humble.
