I am 71 years old, and beginning about age 30 I made it a point of only having rescue dogs. One year ago my daughter found a stray that was freezing, starving and could hardly walk due to hair so badly knotted. I kept him, and he has become a fantastic companion, more intelligent than many humans. He never lets me get out of his sight, when I do he comes looking for me. He is family, and treated as such
Bless you. Rescue dogs are the best.
I'm 72 and we have had five rescues over the years.
My mother is 89 years old and she loves our cat Randy. The companionship, interaction, and affection in keeping her healthy is immeasurable. We love our mother, and getting a cat is one of the best decisions we've ever made.
My three dogs have all been abandoned or shelter dogs ❤
nice work mate. sounds like you and the dog found the perfect match.
I adopted an adult shelter dog 11 years ago. I filled out an application and had to wait a week to take her home. I went to see her every day during my lunch hour. I bought her a collar and one day when I visited her I put it on for sizing. Once I got the collar out of my purse she was so excited. At one time she had been in a home and she realized what that collar meant. I will never forget the excitement in her eyes when she saw that collar. She is sleeping at my feet right now.
@Alan-gx8gf This dog in this video would make for some good eating. Some dog meat is greasy but this kind of dog has more lean meat and is good to grill.

** Benny Update **
Benny is doing just fine. He is living the life that every dog should live - loved and well cared for. His road traveled, at least to us his current owners post this video, was long and no doubt questionable at times. But fortunately for him/us his loving family, our roads intersected with one another.
Benny will turn 4-years old this year. He has filled out nicely weight wise whilst adjusting to his "true" forever home. His black coat has turned into the most beautiful brindle color you ever seen - matching in part his gorgeous brown eyes. Benny spends his days lounging around the house - sleeping on any bed or couch he wishes, hanging out in his large fenced-in yard chasing squirrels, taking car rides, and whenever he can get it, getting his belly scratched or rubbed.
We hug and kiss Benjamin every day endlessly, and tell him how lucky that he is, but truthfully it is us his adoptive family who are the lucky ones.
What shelter did you get Benny from and what breed is he? Thanks for posting that great video !!
You are living the life
I adopted a 4 year old dog from animal control two months ago. I named her Bella, because she is just so beautiful…
This made me so happy that I teared up!! Thank you!! ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
What a marvelous update. So glad to hear that all his bouncing around at being adopted wasn't for nothing, and now he gets to enjoy the life he deserves. ❤
I adopted a three year old female and she changed my life. We both hit the jackpot. She has been a joy!!!!!! I was 81 when she came into my life.
Mary, you are a special lady! Sounds like you made someone very happy! GOD BLESS BOTH OF YOU!!!!!!!!
I hope you live to 110, but also have a backup plan if she outlives you. My Dad is 81 and we just put his dog down, but he said he can't get another one. Maybe I can talk him into an older dog? My Dad is still going strong

I had to put my rescue boy down a month ago but I tell you we had the best 12 years together. I miss him so much I still cry when I talk about it. I can see his grave from my window under the feeders in my tree. He loved chasing squirrels up that tree and was just the best boy anyone could want. God bless the rescues, they know they were chosen and they never forget. 🥰🥰
Bless you for saving a rescue dog.
Thank you for sharing what so many of us feel. Did we save the dog or did the dog save us? I suspect the answer is that we saved each other. It is a deal with the devil whenever we give our hearts to our dogs: ultimately we will be devastated with grief when they leave us far too soon. But our memories live on forever. About the squirrels: be assured that my former shelter boy will hunt them assiduously. I'd like to think that his hunt will be in your own boy's honor. Us former shelter dogs chasing squirrels are a fierce brotherhood. VIVA THE SQUIRREL HUNTERS! And thank you for sharing your story. It is a help to me.
So sorry, I lost mine in the last few months, I had them for 14 years,
a Bischon and a Maltese, wonderful babies…. I’m crying every day….Im alone and can’t afford the Vet bills for a new baby.
I spent over $20,000 on them…

We had eleven years with our rescue doggie, she enriched our lives, we enriched hers, splendid beast.
The look on the dog's face when he realises someone wants him...he doesn't want to believe it but at the same time he wants it so badly. It is written all over his face. He dare not hope....but then...freedom and a home...the joy of it! This makes me hate humans but love them at the same time. Thank goodness for good people like these that turn bad into good.

Do you take care of your people?
Hello you are an angel…..
@antiunclematter9502: Your snarky response shows you missed @paulwalker1793's point. When someone is speaking from the heart, why do you find it necessary to disrespect their feelings? It's a wonder any animal survives this human-centric world of ours. Fortunately, there are people who recognize that animals have the right to live their own best life without the ignorance, apathy, arrogance, and frequent horrific treatment by humans. But along with the empathy and sympathy, worry and concern, those people who voice their feelings about not being able to 'solve the problem,' deal with the frustration of knowing all their efforts and concerns do not make a dent in the need they recognize on a daily basis. It makes their hearts hurt. Voicing the pain they feel may bring them just a tiny bit of relief. Why will you deny them that?
@@invisiblesquash It's just a question, relax.

30 days after he was turned in at the shelter, I went to check on the feral dog that had bitten my hand. (No Rabies) I swear that was the happiest I've ever seen a dog when he laid eyes on me. People die. Move house were there are no pets allowed. Lose their jobs. Move into residential care properties. Have to work extra hours in work and their dog is left alone 14 hours a day etc or they are just not able to give their dog the best lives they deserve. There are so many reasons. I just hope who ever adopted the dog, keeps the dog. A lot of people will return them within a week, which is so sad as the dog hasn't had chance to settle in.

I hug my rescued Pup every day and tell him how happy he makes me and how much I love him. There's nothing better.
I felt a lot of empathy for him, which was turning my stomach. The hoping. The confusion. So many innocent animals never get rescued. It's beyond heartbreaking.

They'd be better off on the streets as strays than getting killed at shelters. It's a crime what we do to dogs in America, from forced genital mutilation to killing.
You are projecting your feelings and emotions on to the dog. The dog is not human. It's not really your fault because the video is meant to manipulate you. Watch Caesar to learn the reality of dogs.

@@candicer I'm so happy for you and he. They all deserve love and care.🐶🐾🐕
Thank you to the family that adopted him. All rescue families are saints❤️
Then everyone who doesn't eat animals must be angels.... 🥰😇 because we force into existence 100 billion land animals no different from this dog in their capacity to love, to be frightened, to suffer and to feel pain..... and then we throw them into a short life of INTENSE PAIN MUTILATION CONFINEMENT TORTURE until we force them into DEATH TRUCKS for a journey that sometimes lasts for days without water or food and we MASSACRE the terrified animals mercilessly - all for a sandwich
No, you're not better better than meat eaters, you're definitely more arrogant though. That's like saying people driving green cars are angels because they care about the environment for the animals so they can breath clean air. Or what about people that don't want kids? They're angels as well since they're not contributing to the over-crowding population that's taking away land for animals to live. I could keep going with this game.
Unfortunately, that isn't at all true, and the many re-abandoned dogs (and cats) in just the USA alone are testament to that. Many people are absolute jerks who just want to get a dog for a short time, for whatever twisted, selfish, sick reason they may have, and then they either return the animal to the shelter, or they start abusing it physically, and do other terrible things. By no means are "all" rescue people, let alone families, "saints"!!
@@MissEarthy there's something to be said about that, we humans aren't saints, we are at odds with nature, our traditional way of life is to slaughter and eat animals, God allows it

Then we went away to talk about it, then stopped by a pet store for the necessary supplies, and returned to the pound to collect her. We walked her out of the building, I opened the car door, and she hopped into the back seat without missing a beat. Had her for 16 years. 🥺

He must have been confused. He has probably seen so many of his buddies leave their cages and not come back. He probably thought he was going to be put down. Poor little fella.
No he wasn't thinking that, he's not a human he's a dog, and if you want to adopt a cat or dog just do it, don't brag about it, actions speak louder than words
@@ktk2008 Who's bragging here? If you're referring to the video, that's not what this is about. The point of this video isn't to 'brag' or whatever, it's to build awareness and hopefully get more people to adopt dogs. So many dogs go to shelters and because there are very few no kill shelters in America, most get put down when no one adopts them. These dogs deserve a family, they deserve to be happy and live a long life. But so many never get that chance. That's what this video is about. So why don't you stop being so self righteous and try actually doing something good instead of putting down those who are.
No. Dogs can literally smell chemical changes in the human body. No doubt he smelled happiness from the worker at the shelter.
@@ihatehiphopcultureandsosho6317 If that's the case... why are so many shelter dogs absolutely terrified when getting adopted, even if their new family is a good one that loves the dog? Is that your excuse to put a dog back in the shelter if they don't like you? "They should have been able to smell I was a good person and that I was happy, so it's their fault, they must be a bad dog, so here, you can have it back." dude. Dogs aren't omnipotent. Wait, was that too big a word for you? I apologize... oh, wait, I'm not really sorry. Nevermind.
How trusting he is allowing the staff to put the leash on him. He’s so excited to see the world! All dogs deserve a forever home WITHOUT the fear of being killed looming over their heads!
I've had a rescue dog and have known many people with rescue dogs. They are some of the most loyal dogs that I have ever seen. They know that they were saved and are eternally grateful of being saved.
I don’t think the dogs know that they might get killed.
Its surprising how humans can decide on what to kill. And its surprising more who gave the authority to kill.
@@ajikoshy89 Its more about space and money. If a dog isnt adopted in say 1 year, it probably never will... rather than pay for its food and use of a kennel for 15 years, they put it down to make room for another dog that perhaps will be adopted quickly. Not saying this is right or its good, would be great if they all got adopted of course but thats not the reality of life
@@ajikoshy89 Give freely to your local shelter and YOU will play a part in preventing the ultimate end for animals that don't get adopted. Shelters DO NOT have deep pockets to save every animal that they receive! Your local shelter NEEDS YOU!

@Samir Dončić But the dog was confused and not knowing how to respond. The dog will need alot of training and support to feel confident again.
I rescued a dog a few years ago. Not from a shelter though. We "met" at a place where my company had a work to do. The dog was chained all day long prior to our presence. We worked there for three weeks and month after we finished work I got to adopt the dog. It is only months after the rescue, and getting to better know him that I realized how much that dog was understanding during this three weeks work. I can very much believe that this pup "knew" he was getting rescued.
We had a similar situation, the doggie knows that when the same person comes back twice that something wonderful is about to happen.

All of my 73 years my family when I was a child and when I was an adult, all of our pets (dogs and cats) were rescues. They know exactly what you’ve done for them. The look in their eyes is amazing! 🥰

Adopting an animal is one of the most rewarding things a person can do. I’m so happy for Benny 💗💗💗
Yes. But, we should never be in the position to adopt a pet from a shelter
Hello 👋, I hope you are having a wonderful day today?
Benny is just beautiful and it's heartbreaking to see how scared and lonely he looked in the shelter. I wish him many years of happiness and good health with his forever family. Lots of love Benny.xxx
When i rescued my dog i was all over him these people seemed very detached from the process with little emo, total love for my 'Bosun' eight year on has been the best thing i ever did total love both ways!

If I could adopt them all I would. How can these beautiful creatures ever suffer a minute of pain/heartache?
They don't deserve it.
God bless all you pooches, love ya

Agreed. I never understand people who don't like dogs or worse mistreat them.
same here,,,wish i could own 12 dogs,,,huge fan of dogs we are
True, they end up in jail and they're innocent 😭💖
Agreed, ugly animals like warthogs deserve to suffer. Cute animals do not. Why won’t people realize this?
God bless this dog and the people who adopted him.
That's a high energy dog, wow. Hope his family is looking forward to taking him on lots of W-A-L-K-s. 😊

He's young, and been in lockdown. He's excited to finally get a life, instead of prison, abuse, and death. I say abuse because many of them are, and he acted very afraid of the staff.🤔
And hope he doesn't learn to spell! 😂
That's a counter surfer who is going to get in the curl if they don't do some training. I'll bet he LOVES cake!
So precious. Isn’t it amazing that we have the ability to cause such joy in other creatures?
I love what you say here. It is truly wonderful
This was beyond heartwarming. The dogs excitement and pure joy shows that our furry buddies truly have emotions and feelings. We love them dearly.
This is absolutely the same way my big boy jumped for joy when I rescued him 4 yrs ago and this brings tears to my eyes to see how happy dogs are to be saved and they save us too♥
I have adopted several cats from our local shelter. I can never go in there without leaving in tears of sadness for those left behind, both cats and dogs. It's sadder than sad and wrong on so many levels. I am happy that Benny got a good home!
Neutering should be free.
I just adopted too!

I cried so much during this video watching this beautiful dog's excitement over leaving the confinement of his "room"/pen, knowing that there are so many other dogs that will never know the same hoy and love. Breaks my heart.
Yes 😪
The craziest part to me is if these dogs aren’t aggressive, why the hell you “rescue” them from NATURE FROM THE OUTSIDE WORLD, just to end up killing them if a human decides they don’t want to take this animal in. It’s so dumb and cruel
@@707josh To avoid feral dogs attacking random kids or people in the street. And most of the stray dogs usually starve or worse

Hello pretty, how are you doing ! I hope you are having a wonderful day today ?
The fact this dog backed away when they came in says a lot. The dog thought his time was up and was scared. The fear in him says he has seen many at that high kill shelter not come back and he was scared. So glad he was one of the lucky ones to leave breathing and with a family.
💖❣️
Yeah, in a shelter near me the dogs frequently go on walks by volunteers. They even pull to go back to the shelter because they feel connected to the people there. Was sad to see this dog scared of the people who worked there ;;-;
I adopt small dogs noone wants ... for some odd reason the dogs noone wants and won't let anyone near them come right to me - they've chose me so I bring them home and give them the best life possible. I've never picked any dog out ... they've always picked me . I'm blessed that these babies who wouldn't let anyone near them came right up to me and wanted up . I'm sorry your dog passed away ... it's very hard I know. To adopt is the most compassionate thing a person can do . You are a compassionate person.
I don’t think so, I’ve no doubt the shelter is unpleasant and the dogs are frightened and distressed, but the pup is displaying normal behaviour for a puppy interacting with people he doesn’t know.
That’s so bad🥲🥲🥲a high kill
He looks like our Benny. He was a sweet heart. We really miss him. Hope you enjoy your Benny as much as we enjoyed ours. ❤
I can't help but think this is how my daughter's adopted dog acted when they found him. He was an animal control stray pickup, a beautiful 10 month old short coat border collie. He has turned into a four-legged human, the smartest dog I have ever seen, and the best pet you could ever ask for.
People need to adopt not buy. Dogs especially but cats too…imagine if everyone adopt 1 dog.
Abandoned dogs….seen too many videos of them being literally abandoned by their owners. One video the dog was left there and they drove off and it was steadfast waiting for 4 days. I don’t know what would happened to an abandoned cat. Sad & tragic
I’ve met two dogs who were brilliant and both were taken off the streets.
Border Collies are crazily intelligent, they can can actually learn to understand spoken language and not just single words, entire sentences.
@@JohnnySack16
Purebred…hopefully you ask to see their parents and the set up (behind the scenes) before buying.
Purebred can also turn out vicious or worse overbred…than the breeders just take them to the vets to be put down. Only the good looking ones make it through…sometimes vets/shelters rescued them. As I am sure you’re aware of.
@@JohnnySack16 it's a shame that you have rejected rescue dogs and only buy purebred. Most places, these rescues are not free because these innocent animals often have health problems or injuries that need to be addressed. Most rescues neuter or spay their animals as well as microchip them. However, most of these animals make the most loving pets. I shudder to think how many animals have been killed at high kill places (I refuse to call them shelters, because they don't shelter their animals) that have been denied the opportunity to show what wonderful pets they could be.
Best video I have seen on TH-cam!! I remember my 2 shelter dogs doing the same thing!! This brought tears of joy to my face!! Benny I wish you and your forever family nothing but happiness and love!!!!

Okay, I’m crying now. I wish I could adopt all of these sweet abandoned dogs. They have souls, too, and deserve good lives.
They don’t have souls you lunatic
I had just adopted a dog a month ago. Her name is Stormy. When saw her, she looked at me and my heart strings just melted. She was very well-mannered and observant. When I'd finally adopted her, I knew she was grateful to me because any time I leave the house and come back, she always greets me with a hug. She gives me so many kisses it's *astounding*. On top of that, she loves to sit with me on the porch and rest her head or her chin on my thigh. She's a cuddle bug for sure. By far the best thing that ever happened to me
Good stuff... spoil her. You are making a difference!
They understand being lost and rejected. They understand being abandoned. So being adopted means so much to them and they are forever grateful. You have a buddy for life.
Seems like there were two winners here. Live long and happy dear.
Got my first dog as an adult 6 months ago. A 2.5yr border collie. Best thing ever. We hang all day every day. I should have done it much much sooner. Wish someone would have at least tried to talk me into a dog. So because of that I do it to others. Of course if they’re thinking about it already and might be on the fence. As long as they have the time…
Awh be best friends ❤️❤️
Get a shelter animal. There's enough injustice in the world. Save a soul who was abandoned by a cruel owner. You can make a huge difference!❤
Not everyone who has to give up an animal does so out of cruelty. There are plenty of cases where an owner just cannot keep the animal, and it is far less cruel to give it up than to attempt to keep it and maybe not be able to care for it properly.
Or a human that has passed, or human who became homeless, or a human who had to go in care, or a sick human. Or a human who can’t afford food and medical care for a dog. I’m without a pet now because I have no one to leave him/her too. It hurts me but I love my past pets and do this for any potential rescue.
@@Donna-cc1kt A woman in southern Maine has an old dog rescue because she doesn't want old dogs living out their lives in shelters. Her whole floor is covered with dog beds! and there were so many adorable beagles. I'm old too and adopted a 2-year-old last year from a shelter (I personally don't like shelters because the environments are not healthy; much prefer rescues), and I worry about being around for her. Frankly, if I think I'm ready to go I'm going to make sure she goes as well. She was tortured in Georgia (half her tail chopped off, left ear slit halfway up), went to foster care, got shipped to southern Maine (bad foster mom, should never have shipped her that quickly) where she spent four months in the shelter: unadoptable. No enthusiasm like Benny, was scared shitless and glommed onto my husband quickly. She is a beagle / whippet mix and whippets are like German shepherds, very, very people-oriented. Such a loving dog and I know it would kill her to leave her at a boarding facility, a shelter, anywhere, because she is so attached to us. Still very fearful of strangers and loud noises and knives.
Oh the pure joy in that freedom walk. Hope his adoption goes well .
This resonates so well with me. It's the same thing for any animal, even humans. Feeling isolated and unwanted and the hopelessness that comes with it and finally being included.
@@barbaras3206 you have put it so well. Agreeing with your thoughts.
We did with one dog we rescued. Dad used to put the Roller Blades on, and let Niles run. When he was controlled enough, after, I taught him a form of Sign Language. He could hear just fine, but, that got him to focus on ME.
Okay, I am definitely adopting a dog instead of buying one. This is so wholesome!
A choice of _honor._ 🌞👍
Please do.
Good idea. I went to one and it was terrible how sad the dogs were. Jamming their heads through the bars to get petted. A woman ran out crying. It is love that makes us adopt both dogs and kids.

The day I adopted my boy was one of the happiest days of my life! To see his face and watch him realize he wasn’t going back into his crate made my heart burst with joy, for both of us! He was a 10 month old, three-legged, German Shepherd-Black Lab mix. The rescue had him for a little over a month, with no one ever stopping to meet him or talk to him. I’ll never know for sure how he lost his leg so young; the vet thinks he was probably hit by a car bc she could tell the amputation was surgical and well done. Sam never knew there was anything different about him. He thought every other dog just had a weird extra leg! 😆 He swam like a fish and ran like the wind! He was 80 lbs of spoiled rotten lap-baby love. He was my canine soulmate, and THE BEST 13 1/2 years of our lives. 🥲❤️
God Bless You for rescuing your fur baby. Growing up my family had fancy breed dogs; as an adult i got my first rescue years ago, I will never go back! Hug him for me!

@Dakota Batres I remember a line from the author known as James Herriot. "Spell Dog Backwards.".
AWWWWW❤❤❤!!! I JUST LOVE,THE FUR BABIES !!❤
Thank you for overlooking the missing leg and adopting your "best bud" anyway! Far to many people look for perfection when adopting an animal, never realizing that the 'imperfect' ones are not only the ones who need us the most but are also the ones who will give us the most love because we accepted them when everyone else turned away. I've had several 'rescue buddies' over the years and I always look for the ones I think no one else will want. I figure they're the ones who need me the most. Not a one of them ever disappointed me.
I’m so happy he has a forever home. His joy almost made me cry.
Bless his soul---nothing like animal love.

Here I am watching this, crying like a baby! SO HAPPY FOR BENNY AND HIS FOREVER FAMILY!
Yeah I'm thankful for my fur friends and their unconditional love, especially during the pandemic. Truly man's best friend 🐶
I took a dog much like this from a boarding kennel. Dogs do NOT 'wait in shelters' ... they have no choice... they are animals that are helpless. The dog I took been abandoned property and just before a Thanksgiving he would be taken to a county shelter to be destroyed. I took him in... as the companion female dog he was with was adopted fast. Both were abandoned as the owner could not pay the boarding fees... This male dog has never been any trouble for me and I learned to train dogs in classes and took 3 of my own through CGC certification. This dog appears to be Labrador crossed with an APBT and is very toy-oriented and like snacks. So he is easy to train quickly.
