I did a similar, but simpler, mod to manually release the rear door. My GX rear door actuator fails sometimes, temporarily, after washing my vehicle. Obviously a short, but I can't figure it out. Anyway, with a cord, and a small key ring, I made an inside the rear compartment manually rear door opener. To get to it, I can crawl into the back of the vehicle from one of the passenger seats, with those seats down, or open the rear glass hatch from outside the vehicle. After removing the door panels you will see the door latch actuator and the mechanism it is part of. The arm attached to the actuator has a small hole. I put a small key ring (off of one of my door remotes) through that hole. I had some extra 550 paracord, so I cut it to length and tied one end to the small ring now attached to the arm of the door lock actuator. You know that one screw you removed on the driver side of the rear window sill on the door? I left that screw out and reamed out (LOL!) the hole enough to pass the other end of the paracord to. I did not want it attached to something hard, like metal or plastic, to prevent it rattling around in that recess, so I tied it to a thick canvas square piece that was removed from a tool roll. Now I have a quick manual rear door release. Tools required: Needle nose pliers to put small keyring through hole. Something sharp to cut the paracord to length. Panel removal tool.
Awesome idea, you might want to consider a style of switch with a protective cover to prevent accidentally opening it if luggage was to move around and depress the button.
I was just in my back hatch area the other day doing LED bulbs and I thought to myself, it would be nice to have a way to open the hatch and then I stumble upon this video. Well done, Bobaroni! Thanks for the info!
@@GXBOB I am just humbled by your online presence. When I look into your eyes, I am blinded by the awesomeness. I can't help it. That's why I couldn't see the video.
Bob! I sleep in the back camping and discovered that the Prados come with an interior rear door latch. I noticed the mechanical cable latch has spots for additional cables with round cable stops. I’m thinking about doing that mod.
Happy holidays, GX*BOB, always lovely to see and hear from you! Not gonna lie, I was expecting you to sneak in an adult toy into the video ~somehow~ after that dad talk about keeping up the reputation :)
@@GXBOB I recently did front and rear brakes myself. I did your LED interior and LED reverse lights. Plus used another of your videos to pull trim to hide dash cam wires. So far as the inside button for the rear glass - certainly no reason I could not do it. I mean you even give the links to the parts needed. I probably won’t do this particular mod. I also did your what was it - the better air filter for the secondary air pump mod. Thanks so much for all you do for the GX community. - Here’s an idea for a GX video - not sure if all GX’s have this or if it’s only the GX’s with rear AC. But underneath a black engine compartment cover - rear passenger side - just behind the engine air filter box . There are a couple of coolant hoses that I believe their function is to send heat to the rear HVAC system. Anyway - the issue is - there are 2 “T”s plumbed into 2 hoses there - and on my GX they showed the dry pink residue from weeping antifreeze over time. I called my local dealer and ordered replacement hoses (come w new T’s ). And replaced the 2 heater hoses myself. I was shocked at the condition of the original T’s- as they are made of plastic and were extremely brittle. I think this is along the lines of preventative maintenance like your replacing the air pump air filter.
childlocks is not a central system hence you have one at each passenger door. So the answer is, your mid row locks will not affect your rear hatch motors.
GX*BOB you are awesome. I always follow your videos for mods. Im having issues with my trunk door latch, its sticky. Your rear door panel removal video is good. But would you do a video of replacing a trunk door latch removal/replacement? TIA
Hey Bob what about taking off the trim to mach the new 2023 Gx460? You have the red tail lights with the grill and headlights. Isnt it just 3m adhesive holding them on?

I’m not there yet man. Didn’t you forget? Scotty Kilmer has a GX460. I got a long way to go. 😁

Just what I need when I take road trips and sleep in the back. Thanks Bob🙌

@@user-sf1zz5ew8v I’m a little disappointed ít took you this long to discover this vid. This mod is probably one I use a lot during camping trips.

Love your vids Bob! You deserve more views man!!
That would require me to expand outside of just doing GX460. Not in it for the money or fame. 🍷

Yeah I’ve seen people do it on the older versions using pull tabs. You should do it!

Don’t know why but for some reason i just felt the need for violence in this vid. Maybe next time.
Another great helpful vid. Thanks GxBob. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to you and yours. The Best GX channel on the Tube!
Happy Holidays Gipstetz. Stay safe. Don’t drink and drive. And get tested the minute you come back from Thailand.
@@GXBOB LOL. Got to make it over there. Maybe number 6 will have me.
Love your channel!! But can you please show us how to replace actuator in rear door ? Can’t find a write up nor a video. Thankyou
@GXBOB yet another great GX how to video - your step by step instructions are great
Is this something you'd attempt? Just curious on how many folks actually do it instead of just sit on a couch and watch it.

i don't like the new 2023 emblems to be honest. It looks gay.
Great idea 💡👍
The knife compartment or the hatch button?
Hi, love your videos. Please make a video on how to install oem glass break sensor on gx 460. Thank you
Follow my instructions for the anti catalytic theft mod but instead of the shock sensor, use the D.E.I 506T glass sensor.
Thank you
Great video Bob
I'm going to do this to my Gx
You should. It’s great for third row passengers or camping too.
Feliz Navidad
Merry Christmas Strong Jay. Stay safe.
👏🏼
So what happened to your roof basket? I'm thinking getting similar setup.
sold it. It was heavy and looked gay.
Good Idea, just dont tell Winston about it
I leave that glass open when Winston comes along 😁
We’re did you get those nice wire strippers.
