    Recorded in public, this interpretation by Sviatoslav Richter is one of the must-see performances. There are few things in the piano repertoire as powerful as "The Hut on Fowls legs / Baba-Yagá" and "The Great Gate of Kiev". Richter's way of playing, on the verge of breaking hammers, is perhaps not taught in any school, you have to bare all your soul and go deep inside yourself to be able to express all the magic of this score... LEGENDARY.

    [Starting circa 12:44] The unhatched chicks are pecking at their shells.... the master Richter, has endowed them with the breath of life.... The percussive yet feathery voice he gives them through the chattering chords, for all their slapped density undeniably melodic.... This is magic, pure and simple!

    Wow, what a phenomenal performance of Sviatoslav Richter!!
    He is the only one capable of creating and picturing, like a true poet, this magical piece of art!
    The interpretation and execution are breathtaking and bewildering!!
    Evidently Richter feels like a fish in the water!
    Astonishing and monumental!!
    I have the utmost admiration for the MAESTRO SVIATOSLAV RICHTER.
    Thanks for uploading this amazing gem!

      I was fortunate to hear him play this piece in Symphony Hall in Boston during one of his rare visits to the US. It's one of the few musical experiences I have had that remains burned in my memory after all these years. I have never heard another pianist produce the sounds that Richter got out of that piano that day.

    • @schrysafis
      @schrysafis ปีที่แล้ว

      @@duvidl heard Richter did not like performing in the U.S. maybe he had more pressure and stress from the audience (maybe?). But I imagine that experience was to be a one time forever touch on the piano from both sides. (both literally and metaphorically speaking)

      @@schrysafis Another reason for Richter not coming more often to the US was that he did not like flying and had to undergo a long ocean voyage..

    Lebhafte und wunderschöne live Aufführung dieser originalen Klavierversion der populären Suite im relativ schnellen Tempo mit klar artikuliertem doch etwas anmutigem Anschlag und mit perfekt kontrollierter Dynamik. Die verbesserte Tonqualität ist auch ziemlich hoch als eine live Aufnahme von vierundsechzig Jahren vor. Wahrlich unvergleichlicher Virtuose!

    解説には問題があります。プロムナードは、ムソルグスキー自身にツァー(ロシア皇帝)を重ね合わせたものと見るべきです。だから、キエフの大門のなかにも出てくるのです。ムソルグスキーとハルトマンは当時のロシアの状況を憂えて、民衆が救われる道を求めるという点で同志でした。この曲もそういう思想的な共感を故人に対して懐いていたことを考えなければ、ただ大袈裟なだけの音楽におわってしまうでしょう。ラヴェルが第一プロムナードをトランペットと金管にしたことには、非常に深い意味が感じられます。

    I agree with some that some tempos are a but fast. Prefer Ashkenazy's more nuanced version. Richter's strength in my eyes is all Rachmaninoff, most eminently the Etudes Tableaux.
