After watching the series for the second time I realized there is actually so much subtle humour in almost every episode, I found myself laughing all the time. The scene when they flesh out their gambling story is also hillarious.
its funny everytime Skyler is hinting that she knows what walt is up to and is playing along. Like when he called jesse in the hospital

omg I feel the same. I don't watch pure comedy shows but comedy sprinkled into serious dramas just hits different and BB did the best of it. I thought the series was full of hilarious moments the first time I watched it, but now that I'm watching it a 2nd time, I'm discovering even more of these moments than I realized before. Truly hilarious stuff.

Yeah. If Skyler lied about him getting the money from donations he won't be pleased because he wants everyone to know he earned those money. So by lying about it being earned thru gambling, Walt's pride isn't hurt and the lie is also have some truth to it

One reason that Skylar can lie more effectively than Walt is that she doesn't feel the need to say more than necessary. She comes up with a plausible lie, and she gives just enough detail about Walt's "gambling" solution for Marie to fill the gaps with what Marie already knows about Walt's intelligence.
Skylar : "He earned it on only fans"
Walt : "I'd rather just admit to making meth"
honestly in today's age, skyler could make an onlyfans and then saul could have his "guy who knows a guy" funnel a bunch of money thru there

The genius of this scene is that, for the first time in a long time, Skylar and Walt are having an emotionally honest conversation. Skylar acknowledges Walt had the best of intentions, and Walt can give a figure of how much he's made and, for the first time, out in the open, talk about how he feels about the work he's been doing.
The acting on BB was second to none. Walt's varying expressions going from scared to shocked then just playing along with Skyler's statement. Skyler pulled a fast one and nobody saw that one coming.

The unpredictable story line is why it's the best show ever IMO. I have never seen such writing in any movie or show. Only 2 video games have similar writing, GTA IV and RDR 2

Didn’t realize how brilliant this scene is! How Walt is so invested in the lie Skylar made about gambling, wanting to know what happens next. And if only Walt came up with the lie about being a gambler first. Maybe Skylar would’ve still been with him. Wild.

The only part of that entire explanation that was a lie was saying it was gambling. And really, even that isn't _really_ a lie - it's just not at all what she was implying. Pretty much everything Walt did throughout the series was gamble after gamble, it just wasn't slots/blackjack/etc like is being implied.

Later when Walt asks her how she learned to lie like that, she said "I learned from the best." He took that to heart, and really felt bad for lying to her so much.
But that was a lie! Walt is a terrible liar. Skyler learned nothing from him. She's so good at it that she made him believe she learned from him and made him feel bad about it. Incredible writing and acting.

In a way he really has been gambling. Gambling his life, his freedom, his family. And then as always the house wins.
I think deep down, at first, Skyler liked the fact that Walt would do anything to provide for her

Genuinely one of the funniest scenes of the show. The look of shock on Walt’s face gets me every time
Isn't it interesting that Walt's first instinct is to stay impartial while sayin veiled "anything you need" bullcrap, whereas Skyler's is to come up with a lie on the fly as long as it at least partially reduces the damage done to Hank.
This is one of the funniest scenes of the series.

This is one of my favourite scenes, and so underrated. Anna Gunn was peerless in this scene.

I remember watching this scene in complete suspense wondering how the hell Walt’s gonna get out of this one, then after the scene I just kept wondering how can a TV show just keep getting better and better? And then it just kept getting me more invested in the plot, this show is incredible and the best TV show I’ve ever seen.

This lie works so well because it’s not entirely false.
This is an incredibly artful, and effective scene. I'd rank this among the highest dialogue scenes in all of cinema/TV.
The best lie-based narrative is when you lace into it several strong truths, even embarrassing or unpleasant.
- Walt's diagnosis changed him. (true)
- Skylar didn't really understand what he was going through. (true self-reflection of Skylar)
- Walt wanted to leave some kind of inheritance to his soon-to-be widow, baby and physically-challenged son. (true of Walt's initial motivations)
- Walt not taking Gretchen and Elliot's money due to pride. (very astute character judgment of Walt)
- Their problems all came down to money (false. He is a drug manufacturer/dealer and other factors)
- He got rich gambling (false. He is a successful drug manufacturer/dealer)
Fun Fact: I read Cranston's excellent memoir, and he said he fought hard, even usurped control for the director and actors when they were blocking this pivotal and brilliantly written scene. It was written as all three of them sitting on a couch. But they found that they couldn't glance at each other properly and feed off reactions. So they blocked it as a triangle seating. As you can see, their instincts were bang on.

I always liked Skyler, she's a good character and I can't really understand why everyone hate her, everything she did was valid af but this scene made me fall in love with her/her character even harder
Skylar did some good quick thinking there and had a great poker face too. As Saul pointed out about Walt's taste in women "only the very best with just the right amount of dirty."

So many layers to this scene in terms of interpretation, but I think that mainly Skylar did this to earn a sense of control over Walt. She had been feeling like a hostage because she had no say in the dangerous plans Walt had for her and her children, so she came up with the gambling story to force him to spend his money how she sees fit.
This scene also signifies that skylar, just like Walt, has also always felt a sense of inferiority. She ended up in a boring house, with a boring husband. Coming from that place, she's attracted by the allure of Walt's new life style. Part of her wants in. In this scene you can see how she lies in her own way, in a political way. She waters down the lie by mixing it with some truth in order to make it more effective. This scene is the first time Skylar appears as an asset to Walt's business, which she ends up participating in, all the while hiding behind her victim status, like she had no choice all along, once again using filthy pragmatism to get away with her own mistakes.

No, most people would have reacted as she did. If someone offers to pay tens of thousands of dollars for you, the reasonable reaction would be bewilderment, especially if you don't expect the other person to have that amount of money just laying around. It would almost be a sign of entitlement and also a little rude to immediately accept such a generous offer. Also, being bewildered, one would have a hard time believing the offer is actually real, which leads to questions.
