Yes, I agree. I hate to say it but I think Dean wasted his prime with Jerry. I separate his voice by decades. There is a notable difference. To me the 1950s was when he had his prime voice. It seems he can hit any note effortlessly.

I'll never understand why people get upset at Jerry for something that was part of their act. It was Jerry's job to mess with Dean, that's why there are times that Dean sings and Jerry is off stage, so they could showcase Dean's voice without the shtick.
It's because dean singing the song so beautifully. I think it's just a wrong timing i guess because of the song he sings that's why people are upset because they hearing dean singing It's magic so beautifully. And i think they should have changed the song for the act.
Jerry Lewis controlled the show, including the writing. He was obnoxious to listen to, that's the problem. He set himself up as "the funny guy", while gradually relegating good-natured Dean to the rear, and it got really bad when they started making movies. That's what led to the break up. I don't find Lewis all that funny - he's basically slapstick, whereas Dean has a very subtle sense of comedy, and he was truly funny. Lewis is documented over and over again as being a bully.

As much as I like to hear Dean sing I also like how Jerries comedy brings the show down to Earth, there’s Dean singing romantically and Jerry being goofy which creates the unique duo known as Martin and Lewis.
Can't stand Lewis, I get really sick of the fake voice, and there's nothing down to earth about it. Dean was a very good singer, attractive, good looking and charming - and Lewis just ruined his act constantly, part of the show, but Dean must have gotten pretty sick of it. He was coining money though, so he just put up with it, as he said when he finally lost his cool, and left, breaking up the act. "You're nothing but a f-ing dollar sign to me." Dean was patient for years, and always kind, and Jerry took advantage, bullied him and cut him out of things.

Also, Dean & Jerry were always good friends, just because they had quarrels doesn't mean they "hated" each other. They remained friends until Dean died and where always talking on the phone. By 4.25 Dean looked visibly fed-up, and who could blame him? Once again Jerry had ruined a beautiful song with his infantile and frenzied buffoonery.
Many of us love Jerry's performance! Jerry didn't ruin anything! It was their act!!! Dean had a lot of funny moments on the show as well! They were comics! He wasn't there just to sing his songs. He wouldn't have joined a comedy team if he wanted to do that! ( rolling eyes). I'm European and I will never ever understand the hate that some Americans have for Mr. Lewis...lol its so ridiculous! he was a fantastic physical comedian! His body was music..he was amazing! I guess some people are afraid of uniqueness and genius...that's what I understand about many Americans
There are plenty of videos of just Dean singing. This clip is part of their double act. simple. This was worked out beforehand. Jerry wasn't ruining anything.
They literally had planned times where Jerry was off stage to allow Dean to just sing. This was their act. It was Dean's job to look fed up with Jerry's antics. If Dean had just wanted to sing he wouldn't have Jerry lead the band.
