- How to Tie a Perfection Loop Knot. The perfection loop knot is one of the best fishing knots to learn. You can use it any time you need a solid sturdy loop off a main line. Perfect knot for fly fishing or conventional fishing.
Here is an updated video on tying the perfection loop • Perfection Loop Instru...

*I was pleased with Trilene mono line **enjoyable.fishing** recommend performance (25 lb. test) because it offers smooth casting with no tangles/bird's nest in the spool. And, knots can be tied effectively with ease. I would recommend.*
GREAT for fishing leader line ends. Snap on to my duo snap swivel and start fishing. Just what I was looking for. PERFECT demo. Thanks!
You are a hero sir. I've been trying to find this knot for weeks as I use banded pre tied rigs and have been having issues connecting them to my reel
❤ Love this modification, nice job fast and easy!
Helping me perfect my cage feeder setup, cheers bud!
Your video makes tying this loop so simple. I’ve had some problems controlling the loops but now it’s so much easier. Thank you & tight lines to you. Derick.
I cant tell you how much i appreciate this. Getting ready to go catfishing and this saved me so much trouble.
Great video bud!! Got it first try! Life saver for sure!! 👍👍
Now *this* is a tutorial. Thank you!
Glad it was helpful!
and yet when I do it the tag end is easy to resize the loop like a noose.
Brilliant that, thank you!!!
Glad it was helpful!
Life-saver, out here and my daughter cut her hook off and I had to make a new leader and didn't remember the knot. Thanks so much!
Awesome! Glad it helped
Your the man for fishing knots 👍👍
Thanks 👍
Very useful, thank you so much! :)
Nice tutorial, thank you. The only thing I noticed while tying these knots that I need bigger loop in the final knot, because no matter how I try to make it smaller, somehow the loop still ends up quite big for my purposes. Can it be done smaller?
Nice tie loop
WOW! Finally after years of trying to tie any line...this worked (after only 3 tries)perfectly!! And I only watched the video once! Thank you!
Glad it helped!
Good lord the easiest to follow vid for this knot. Glad I found this and the part about using your thumb for the second loop makes it 10 times easier.
Awesome! glad to hear it was helpful. How I've shown it, you can tie it in the dark.
@@KevinHospodar hahaha let's not get too far ahead of ourselves here. I have a little bit of practice to go to get that good.
Cheers for the help
Great stuff thanks
Took me a bit to understand but when I really started paying attention worked great for my tomahawk rig thank you!
Awesome! Glad it helped
Mate, much love from Australia. Every time I need to learn a new knot you have made it so simple. Thank you so much👍👍👍😀😀
Happy to help!
Had a couple herring rigs but they didn’t have a loop at the end so i will try this. Thanks
Man this is quick and easy. Took me a minute to figure out the jig placement. Maybe update with a jig in use. Love it though!
Finally conquered it, thanks!!!
keegan tate awesome! Hopefully the video was clear and easy to follow.
I found this easy to follow, thanks for the video.
Perfect!
Its brilliant non strangulation I use it in the Chod rig .....gives me an edge..
This the knot i was lookin for. Great tips 🤙
Awesome. Glad it helped!
Perfect explanation. The best knot man on youtube. Thanks 👍
Awesome! Glad it helped
Thanks for the helpful video, I'll go practice knitting knots. Welcome:)
Big thanks ,you made it easy, great vid mate.
Thanks for checking it out, and I'm glad it helped
Thanks!
No problem!
Perfect demonstration 👍👍
Right, I've been looking for a while now on the correct fishing line knot for hanging up scale models but I can't find it. I want to use a single line, pass it through a hole in a support bracket for the ceiling and tie the two ends of the one line together to make a continuous loop. I then pass the ends of the aircraft through the loop to hold it. So I'm making two separate loops for the front and rear. What is the knot called? Long explanation but cant think of another way
Thanks for this.
Needed this, good jerb
Fantastic! Thanks so much!
Glad it was helpful!
Thank you!
Helped me spook much thanks
Awesome! Glad it helped
Thank you very much. fantastic video I found it very easy to follow the steps very plain and simple (67 years old)
nicholas kelly awesome! Glad it was a help.
Thanks.simple n strong.
I was so stuck with this knot untill i found this video
Thanks dude.
So so easy thank you
bill dixon Thanks! Glad it was helpful.
I watch this like 50 times because this man going to fast
Perfect! I was able to tie this loop after watching your video only twice! Super handy tip! Great video, thanks for sharing :-)
awesome! glad it helped
@@KevinHospodar hey I just noticed after doing that this knot plenty of times this will slip and fail with enough pressure? If you put saliva on the line and follow your exact steps it will slip with minimal pressure, so when the line is wet in water it will slip out?
That's looks good! Thanks
You think it's better then loop 8?
Great vid. I found that there seems to be a trick to cinching the knot down correctly though, that is making the difference between it slipping or holding. Am I missing something ?
thanks! There is a bit of a "feel" to tightening down the knot - I also made an updated version of the video here -> th-cam.com/video/idhu1CJ6nDg/w-d-xo.html
Yeah but where do you put your lure in this process?
Nice video good explanation and example
Thanks!
Nice !!!
Very easy to tie and strong…I think it’s just as strong as the figure 8 loop.
Perfection loop fishing knot
Can you show us how to tie a lure on with this know?
FYI: The original name of this knot is the Angler's Loop.
Up to how many #s is this good for? not for Big fish? What do yo recommend for Bigger fish
In the video I was using 40lb big game. I use it down the 6lb.
How do you get it to not slip every time I tie it slips like a slip knot and I’m tying it correctly. ? Any help?
Hey Eric - I redid the video here -> th-cam.com/video/idhu1CJ6nDg/w-d-xo.html might be easier to see
Nice one thankyou
No problem 👍
Yeah, so how does the lure get attached to this knot? I have just recently heard about this knot and I am not sure of its application.
I don’t use this for attaching lures … for that I use the non-slip mono loop. I have a video on that knot
Here’s the non slip mono loop How to tie a Non Slip Mono Loop Knot | Fishing Knot to attach Fly Lure or Hook

Thanks for sharing
Thanks for checking it out
Hi does the tail end go thru the rear loop or just between the two loops
between the 2 loops
@@KevinHospodar ok thanks
Figure eight works good as well
How do you do it with hook?
This video is almost perfect. It's just u need to show (close up) where the line goes and not just mentioning where they should go.
Check out this other video I did, maybe a bit more clear - th-cam.com/video/idhu1CJ6nDg/w-d-xo.html
@@KevinHospodar nailed it!
But which loop does the hook go on?
I use this for loops on the back end of a leader... I use a loop-to-loop handshake to connect
I don’t know if I’m thick or something but it took me an hour and I can just about get 1 successful knot in 10 tries
Hey Lewis- here’s another version I did of the knot th-cam.com/video/idhu1CJ6nDg/w-d-xo.html
Finally got it but the knot slips with tension. I decided to use the Overhand Loop Knot instead. You just knot two strings at a time, works perfectly.
1. make loop, with string behind the loop and string end points to the right
2. pass string through fingers, making a second loop
3. pass string between loops
3. pass first loop through second loop
4 pull tight, the loose end points to the left
Check out this other video I did, maybe a bit more clear - th-cam.com/video/idhu1CJ6nDg/w-d-xo.html
Try speed 0.25 it is easy to follow
I do a figure of 8 with the line but this looks easier.
This is easy and just as good as the figure 8
Good stuff, but how do I get it off my finger ?
มาชมครับผม+1ครับ
Umm, how do you get the fly attached? Can you demonstrate with a fishing fly or hook?
I don’t use perfection loops for attaching a fly… I use a non-slip mono loop for that
I'll look into it. Local shop just today advised me to use it. Thanks.
A quick note here…if the loop is tied correctly the tag end will be 90 degrees to the main line..if not it’s not tied correctly.
The perfection loop works great with mono and fluorocarbon and some braids but not really well with the slick or very smooth braids for the line is so slick or smooth and soft that it allows the knot to roll over and come undone or slide like a slip knot. But works great for mono and fluorocarbon. For the one having trouble tying it look it up there are better videos and illustrations of how it is tied. The knot is strong and has it's place and uses.
Check out this other video I did, maybe a bit more clear - th-cam.com/video/idhu1CJ6nDg/w-d-xo.html
This is very hard to follow cant see anything where the line goes.
agreed
@@DC-et4li Yup cant see through your hands
Check out this other video I did, maybe a bit more clear and easier to see- th-cam.com/video/idhu1CJ6nDg/w-d-xo.html
@@DC-et4li 6kkikk9
Try speed 0.25
Really hard to follow this. I would suggest thick, colourful string.
I tried dozens of times and it always come undone when I pull the front loop through the back and leaves a knot on my line
Check out this other video I did, maybe a bit more clear - th-cam.com/video/idhu1CJ6nDg/w-d-xo.html
✌😉
They way you were explaining it and showing it, it looked like you were going through both loops at the end. You could have easily said go through the back loop only.
I redid the video, it might be easier to follow th-cam.com/video/idhu1CJ6nDg/w-d-xo.html
Now do it with 5X. 😅
Perfection loop is weak on monofilaments.. if you expand the loop sideways, the tag end will just slip out.
You’re right the line will slip through. But it you tie a overhand (even better with a double overhand) knot at the end first. The knot will stop the tag end slip though. This knot then becomes useful.
I keep doing this but my knot keeps sinching dowm
Check out this other video that I did, maybe a bit easier to see - th-cam.com/video/idhu1CJ6nDg/w-d-xo.html
Sound man you
your hand covered the last part, I can't see what you did.
always watch these vids in 0:75 speed
That REALLLLY helped!
I don't get it. After watching three times over I finally understood and the knot came undone with little effort. Would never survive a small fish and I have no idea what to do differently.
Check out this other video I did, maybe a bit more clear - th-cam.com/video/idhu1CJ6nDg/w-d-xo.html
Mine makes 2 loops in stead of 1
Then you're doing it wrong. Lol.
100 times because I keep forgetting how to do it
Glad it helped!
How the hell you put your fishing lure on
I don't use this for attaching lures... rather for making a loop for a handshake connection
Can't see the 2nd loop at all
just double up your line and loop it through two times and pull? why do this?
You’re taking about a surgeon’s loop - it will come off the line tied at an angle… while a perfection loop will be straight in line
@@KevinHospodar Why not just make a loop, then make another loop. wrap it around your finger three times with first loop and pull through second loop? why not do that?
@@jimcarrey7006 you've lost me at this point
Lol thats a Spider Hitch. Its a great loop knot for multiple applications like tieing a leader onto it with a noname knot for great spring action with mono, however the loop would be super big when compared to perfection loop.
You don’t have to go through your hand and index finger..just form a second loop in front of your thumb and index finger…results are the same!!
You cannot see what the person tying the knot is doing. A bright colored line would have been better suited for demonstration purposes.
it's weird, my tag end slides through the knot...why?
Try tying with a longer that usual tag, tighten down the knot to size then trim the tag. hope that helps
@@KevinHospodar thank you, looks like it's normal to slide that (Btw I am using braid). anyway i was trying to tie a flourocarbon leader with an albright knot through this loop. But found that double-oni knot is more reliable.
@@RazvanStefan not sure if braid might be causing the issue?
@@KevinHospodar it's the braid that is causing this, is very very very small. I have tried it already with heavier gauge line, it works just fine, so it's good that i wasn't stupid :))) picture this: tried this knot like 15 times and every single time encountered same problem....I was like WHAT THE HELL AM I DOING WRONG? but now is fine, I know how to tie perfection loop, double palomar, FG knot, albright knot, the rapala knot....so I learned some stuff last night in my quest to sort things out hahaha
Razvan Stefan glad you got it sorted!
Looper knot
Try make it easier to follow
Here is an updated video for a perfection loop - th-cam.com/video/idhu1CJ6nDg/w-d-xo.html
I can"t see it
I did another version of the video, check here- th-cam.com/video/idhu1CJ6nDg/w-d-xo.html
I'm here not for fishing but to try to make loop for my kite's flyline to attach to a pigtail attached to eyelet of kite's keel.
Translation: my kite will be flying away bye bye. 😣
Nice video but please do not tell me how easy it is. I have been following your perfection loop video and after two hours cannot get it to work. This has led to a lot of frustration. Arbor knots, surgeons loops etc are no problem. But this one I cannot get. I appreciate the video just do not tell me how easy it is.
