One of the best tips I’ve gotten in a long time! Probably tied a thousand over the last 20+ yrs and always struggled getting that loop smaller! Who’d a thought it would be so,simple. Thanks !
Finally got my euro setup and went out yesterday for the first time. Just wanted to say I really appreciate your videos and sharing your knowledge to the rest of the world.
Little hack that makes a big difference. I have been using your hemostat method since I saw it and can get a smaller loop than with my fingers but this is better for adjustable tags for sure. Works great, thank you as always for the pearls of wisdom and heart clear instruction Tight lines
This is great and you can even go a step further - If you use a barbless hook, cinch the not all the way to the hook and you have a MICRO perfection loop. I use this often instead of a tippet ring. Make sure that when attaching the tipped to the micro loop that you do a double clinch so the connection doesn't snap. Its very strong, light and works great - landed multiple browns well over 20+ inches with this setup.
You are right, Daniel. I use it myself. I briefly talk about that and show the barbless hook in the video. Appreciate you watching. Continued success to you.
Thank you greatly for this tip. I am newer subscriber to your channel. Your eye for detail and perfection is the best out there as far as Im concerned. All of your videos utilize great detail and you explain ideas and tips that have absolutely made me a more successful and an all around better fly fisherman. I can't thank you enough!
Glad it was helpful, James. And glad all the videos are helping, as well! Really appreciate it you subscribing and taking the time to comment. Continued success to you and tight lines!
Cory another great video. Like others have said, been tying this knot for years and never seen or thought it could be this simple. You come up with the most simple ways to make the sport of fly fishing better. Nice T&T rod tubes behind you. Thanks again for a great learning and instructional video. Cory for President!!
Howdy Cory, glad u shared that tip. I always struggle to get them small… you’re 1620 was a game changer for me I can tie it in seconds… and I used your dropper tag, triple surgeons with one piece of leader… thanks peace✌🏻
Wow! I used to fiddle around trying to get that durned loop smaller, and my sausage fingers always got in the way. Excellent tip, #olddominiontroutbum I cannot wait to set up a new Euro pre-tie. Thanks!! 👍👍
Love all the tips and great videos! I have been achieving the same results using the tip of my hemostat’s. I keep my thumb on the top to keep the loop from sliding off while I cinch down the knot. Works good and you always have pair of hemo’s with you on the water.
Could you do a video on tying micro loops to euro fly lines? You seem to have so many little hacks, and precise demonstrations on how you do things. I’d love to see your technique. I’ve only seen Devon’s video on it. I can tie one. But would love to see how you do it!
I’ll do one in the near future, Preston. Couple of things that I do differently that I feel make it easier. Appreciate the suggestion. Hope you have been getting at em!
good tip! the only downside is if you were making a loop to loop connection for the butt section of a leader you would be losing quite a bit of line from trimming the tag. I started using one of those plastic hook tools to tie it for the butt section loop and it makes small loops with minimal tag. Love the knot! I use it at work at lot not just fishing!
yes I learned that long time ago saltwater tandem rigs inshore fishing..black fish (Tog) seabass ling .. miss those wreck bottom fishing trips in October off New Jersey shore .. Cory some great tip for the perfection loop.. I too when home like practicing all kinds of rigging knots you demonstrated thus far, but doesn't a lower profile straight off the main dropper work best on the small trout water species .. Cory wouldn't any additional resistance such as a perfection loop in freestone riffles be too much profile for light tippets ? perhaps could be good higher up on a leader and yes no longer than three four inches,,are you adopting this as a standard or an alternatives to previous tandem rigging .. always fun stuff tight lines!
Jon, I'm just showing a way to control the size. It's not a suggestion to use it any other way than people already do. Like I said in the video-You may want to make a small loop to replace a tippet ring or for an adjustable dry-dropper. Thanks for watching.
Awesome. Have you using a uni knot to create a sliding tag? It seems to stay put on the tippet very well, but not sure how it holds up to a fish strike. Thanks much for your vids! Toney
Thanks, Toney. You can use a Uni, but I don’t prefer it for this. The reason is it gets too tight and it is difficult to slide up and down, or when you do slide it-it stress your tippet out too much. I do like the Uni for putting a new tag on when the original tag gets too short. Hope this helps. Appreciate you watching!
Cool, do you use the perfection loop to connect the flies? If there’s a trick to do so with 5x, I liked to know. Thank you, cuz your videos have really helped me improve. As a newbie, watching you strategically work a stream is good stuff.
Hey Edge. I use it to make a small dropper for an adjustable dry-dropper. You can see that video here: th-cam.com/video/07hhOzbUkQs/w-d-xo.htmlsi=woIKPPxtkQG-dTxB Glad the videos are helping. Good luck to you. Here's to more success!
Just did this this is awsome, just wondering is it ok to tie a double surgions knot instead of using a perfection loop to tie the monofilament on the end of a polyleader to a piece of tippet.I was just thinking it might be stronger than using the perfection loop
Is it important that the tippets are the same size? For example 5x adjustable dropper to 5x point fly rig. Or can they differ by one size? Say 5x - 6x.
Nathan, I am assuming you mean when fishing a dry-dropper? It won't affect it if you use 2 different sizes, but I like to use the same size. Thanks for watching.
@jimcastillo8950 you do not want you fly line out of the rod tip because it will defeat the purpose of the micro leader. You need to keep the loop inside the guides. The small loop helps it slide through the guides easily. Check out my micro leader video for more info. Tight lines.
Interesting but there is a better way that wastes far less tippet on the final tag end that you clip off when you finish tying it. You can even tie it so the fly is on the loop when you're finished. With practice, you can tie a loop so small that not even bead chain eyes on a damsel nymph will foul in the loop. Very useful on streamers and nymphs so they move freely on the loop.
Hey Bill, this video was more for the traditional use of a perfection loop (and you are right, you can use far less tippet). I actually use a non-slip loop knot if I want a loop for my fly. Thanks for watching and tight lines to you.
Whatever the use, to adjust my perfection loops, after folding a short length of tag end across the two loops and just before tightening the everything, I pull on the side of the first loop, (which will make the second loop smaller), and/or the standing part of the line (which will make the first loop smaller). Then spit and tighten. I was merely using tippet-to-fly as an example of how small you can make it. But I do this anywhere I use it such as loop to loop. If your tippet-to-fly knot is stronger than your leader-to-tippet knot, each time you lose your fly, you will also lose your tippet because the leader/tippet knot will break first every time. I tested many combinations of different knots in those two places and the perfection loop at the fly was the goldie locks. Just right. It was the strongest loop that still doesn't overpower the tippet/leader connection where I use the strong but aestheticly unpleasant double overhand knot. (Any suggestions for a stronger knot there would be welcome) I also find the perfection loop quick and easy to tie in the dark. This is all my personal preference of course. But I will playing around with the non slip some more. And also your way of tying the perfection loop in this EXCELLENT video, which is new and fascinating to this old knot head. 😏👍
@@billp3598 Nice of you to say, Bill. Appreciate it. I agree that your tippet to fly has to be the weakest link (for the lack of a better word). As unpleasant as that double (or triple) overhand knot is-it flat out works. I have tested the perfection loop as the fly line to leader connection with a non-slip loop knot on false albacore (they are tackle busters) on 9 and 10 weights and never had a perfection loop fail. But that double overhand knot doesn't either.
Here's the issue with micro perfection loop I have. Get snap and you need to break the snag! it breaks the loop. Back to tying a new micro loop. If you never get a snag it's great but.............
Charles, that's no out of the ordinary. When you get stuck, a lot of the times your rig will break at the knot. Usually it is at the weakest knot (esp on light line). The perfection loop's strength is less than a clinch, davy, surgeon's, etc...
No matter the brand of fluorocarbon in 8lb as soon as a trout hammers my fly the perfection loop fails every time. Knot strength must be 10-15% of actual breaking strain
Perhaps your knots are tied perfectly, SGT. If you don't have perfectly tied knots, they will fail. Thanks for watching and thank you for your service!
I’ve been tying perfection loops for 15 years or more. I never knew this was possible. Awesome tip Cory! Thank you.
You are welcome, Rich! Hope you have been getting out!

Good luck with it, Drew. Thanks for watching. Tight lines!
So cool, Mr Cory. For years, I struggled with making the perfection loop small. What a simple hack! Thanks!
Glad it is helpful. Tight lines to you.
Thanks for making this! I am so glad I can make a more reasonable size loop.
Happy to help, Shawn. Thanks for watching!

Nice one Cory, didn't know you could do that with a perfection loop.... :)
Thanks, Steve! Hope all is well mate!!
I really like your videos and would love to see a euro nymphing Salmon River steelhead video.

Thank you, Gregory! I haven't made it up there for Steelhead yet. One of these days....Appreciate you watching and tight lines to you as well.
Thank you, that is so helpful! Very much common sense, but I have not thought of that prior
Glad it is helpful, Brian! Tight lines to you!
Great tip Cory …thanks for sharing…been practising at my bench and surprised how small a loop you can tie with your suggested method 👍🏿

Hi Corey. What kind of net r u using. I have a net I use in Montana but I would like nice smaller one?

Hello, do you use the micro loop to attach your leader to your fly line or do you use the nail knot? thanks
Hey Jim. I do use a micro loop. I'll just tie my leader directly to the loop.
@@OldDominionTroutBum
So tying on the leader to the micro loop probably helps prevents the hinge affect vrs the loop to loop attatchment ?
