    librarian here : " i want to get my son to read. what will he like? he hates books! what do kids read these days? but no violence. or drugs or anything weird like that." "ok, let's see what we can find. How old is your son?"
    "19". I was expecting to hear 8😂

      P Martin, two things:
      1) It seems as if many people agreed with the OP (including me) and nobody with you.
      2) Her comment wasn't about the quality of the video. It was about the editing and the clip that was inserted in between each scene.

      The noise was too loud even with the volume turned down, closed the video.

    I've worked at a used book store so people would come in for a green book from 30 years ago and they don't remember what it's about or the author!! UGH. Great skits :) I can totally relate!!

    I am so awkward that I was afraid one of the B&N workers would find it annoying that I couldn’t find a certain book series I wanted but I knew the titles of all of them and the author but I’m just a nervous wreck lmao

    I once found a book I was interested in, an Australian historical fiction, then took it to the counter and asked the two ladies, "Hi, have you ladies read this one? It sounds very good, but I was hoping it doesn't have too much romance. I'm just not in the mood for romance right now." haha. (Of course they haven't read every single book in the store!) They both gave me a weird look, but were very nice. Neither of them had read it, but tried to decipher an answer for me from the blurb. I bought the book, when I walked out of the store I told my wife, and we were both laughing. She said I was silly. "REALLY?! You're that person?"
    I think that has been only only dumb bookstore question.

    • @SereniaSaissa
      @SereniaSaissa 6 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      In my experience the paperback usually comes out about a year or so after the hardback - and since in this instance the hardback was very new, the person asking would have to wait at least 1 whole year for the paperback.

    ha! i have been asked everyone of these questions! i work in the kids and teen section. one of the hardest things is when a parent comes in looking for a gift for their 16 yr old and asks for a book with no violence, romance and bad language...but is adamant about it being a popular ya book...does such a thing exist...i don't know

    I used to work at a DVD counter and the book section was across from us as well. People ask the same sort of questions about DVDs, added with they know nothing about the movie but they think some particular actor was in it. And even after listing all the movies, "maybe that's not the actor".....

Also love the video but the static noise gave me a headache i get the idea but maybe a warning at the beginning

    I work at a children's bookstore and I've gotten "in looking for my grandkids, they are 3,7 and 11. Non of them like reading but we want them to start. The three year old likes trucks so we thought something along the lines of that. The seven-year-old doesn't like to read so we thought we would put it up to you and the 11 year old has read everything so do you have something for his age but not popular?" It's like.....ok..

    I don't know. I worked part-time in a bookstore for a few years. There are millions of titles, and many more millions of people. You can't expect everyone to know about everything that's out there. Take people where they are, especially if they are potential customers, which people asking questions certainly are. The customer is always right. Always. They are not wrong or stoopid to be asking a question, any question. You help them if you can. There are few things more annoying than employees with attitudes.

    Hilarious! I worked in a bookstore for awhile and ALL.THE.TIME people would come in and say "I'm looking for a book but I don't know the title or the author but it's (insert color here) and it's about (insert topic here). Can you help me?" Sure. Yeah. Right.

  • @krista__

    im starting at a bookstore soon and my biggest concern right now is dealing with those people who dont remember anything about the book. what should you do when that happens? should you ask if they remember anything from the title, the name of the author, plot or genre? and if they cant think of any if that just say you can't help them?

    • @IGotYumph
      @IGotYumph 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      This reply might be late, but as a bookseller for the past 4 years, my method is basically playing 20 questions with the customer. See if they remember the author, maybe a character's name. I'll just start punching those keywords into Google and see what comes up. Works most of the time, otherwise I just tell them to get back to me when they get more info, lol. Also, if you're in the bookstore long enough, you accrue a mental inventory of books. Someone says "I dunno, it was something Crawfish" and you have had a bajillion people in the past three months asking for "Where the Crawdads Sing" because everyone and their grandma has it for their book club read, then you'll know.

    I am thinking of working at a bookstore for the summer and now I'm terrified. because 1. my communication skills are bad. 2. I'm not that very knowledgeable with books.
    I havent read many books yet, and I don't really want to know what the books are about when booktube/bookstagram recommends it cause I'd like to go to it blind...
    Any advice for me???

    This is funny (and a little bit sad). I usually know what I'm looking for when I come to a bookstore, and I don't expect the people working there to know every single book, but I was really shocked once when I asked if they had Stieg Larsson's book which is originally titled "Män som hatar kvinnor" which means "men who hate women", and the title in croatian is a literal translation of that (it's The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo in US) and the bookstore employee asked me if it's a self-help book. I wouldn't mind her not being familiar with some book, but it was the number one bestseller in Croatia that year and how can she not have heard of it? Anyway, my experience in bookstores is 99,99% positive, everyone is always ready to help, to show me where the genre I'm interested in is located, to look up for a book in other store if it's unavailable at their's, to inform me if the book's unavailable so I don't waste my time searching... that's enough for me... Last time I was at a book store, a lady was asking for a light and funny read, which isn't kind of specifying what she needs, the lady working there was doing everything she could to find her a book which would meet her expectations, but she didn't like the short description on the back of any of those books... Then I told her to try Ephraim Kishon... She ended up buying 6 of his books and said jokingly I'm to blame if she doesn't like them :D
