    Super helpful thank you! I recently applied for a part time job at the local Barnes and Noble. My best friend told me to include my booktube channel on my application but I was really hesitant! I decided to listen to her and according to you I hopefully made the right choice! :) Also, I applied online(in the past I've always done it in person) so hopefully that doesn't hurt my chances!

    I have an in-person interview (after passing the phone interview) tomorrow afternoon and I'm so nervous, but like, nervous excited!!! It's a brand new independent bookstore. I've worked in libraries for about 7 years (still do) and my branch is even just down the road from where the bookstore will be. I hope they feel the same way about library experience as you and hire me haha It's going to be a smaller store size so I've been doing lots of research about how independent bookstores are making it work in a digital world. wish me luck

    Do you think i could get hired at a bookstore like Barnes and Noble with no work experience? I’m a friendly and personable but I’m nervous that because I’ve never had a job before that i won’t get hired.

      I work for Waterstones and when I got hired I had never worked at a bookstore before. I was an Early Years teacher before that, so not really related. I work with people in their early twenties (I'm mid-twenties) whose bookselling is their first job, and... they got the job! it's a case by case basis and depending on what impression you give, how the interview goes, etc. So the fact that you've never had a job before shouldn't be a deterrent!

      @@andrealdp2222 I'm 16 and would love to work at waterstones but I'm super unsure about how I should go about that!! I've never worked before besides a little waitressing so I have very little experience and I'm worried about being so young. My local waterstones is also not advertising any jobs so I'm scared about wether or not i should ask, I basically have no clue how I would apply or if there need to be any specific requirements I had to meet for a weekend job. Any advice would be very much appreciated!! 🥺

    I really wanna work at a book store near me. But the thing is I don't read but i've started to collect books and read a little. The reason I don't read is because i can never find a book that keeps me hooked on until recently. But Also! I read a lot of mangas. I started collection Manga books like a year ago. I don't have that much but it's something. I wanted to work at B&N or 2nd and Charles because If someone needed to find a manga they can come find me and i can help them. But I don't have that much book experience and I really want to read books and know about them more. that's the main reason i want to work at a book store. But like now i don't know if I should work at one because I don't know much about books.

    What mindset should I keep in case of rude or confrontational customers? I'm pretty sensitive to negativity. :( Second, having no prior resume/experience won't scrap me outright, will it?

    • @luccagiovani
      @luccagiovani 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Did you get the job?.
      Rudeness and confrontation is a daily thing in any retail job, eventually you will be able to figure it out.
      Usually you just treat them neutrally like any other customer and brush off their rudeness, this is the fastest way to get them off your back. If you are rude back they might complain about it and then it's all a stupid huge issue and they want to talk to a manager and blah blah.
      Sometimes you do have to remind them of their manners, mostly if they are interrupting you while you are helping another customer.

    • @mainantagonist

      I work at a large bookstore chain, and if I were interviewing you, I'd be fine with manga reading. My main interest would be learning how you would sell manga, and how you would upsell manga. But also, knowledge of store items is only one part of our job. The number one desire is retail ability. Meeting customers (strangers) and offering your help. Taking them to whatever sections they want, even if you know nothing about that category. And eventually, being able to talk about every category and know at least one new bestseller. There is also shelving, cashiering, organizing, displays, and a whole assortment of tasks to perform. In fact, there is a good chance that in any given week, you might not find a single customer to sell manga to because you are taking people elsewhere. Where your strength comes in is when another employee has no idea what the latest issue of Demon Slayer is, and you can assist them, and also help upsell the customer whatever title is a good compliment to get then hooked on more manga. Hope that helps.
