I have a D5600 and have both 18-55mm kit lens and the 35mm prime. The 35mm is a must have for low light shooting and that awesome boket. But the kit lens still serves its purpose, especially during the day time. And yes, VR does make a huge difference.

I couldn't agree with you more on your selection of lenses. Particularly the 18-55mm. It is now available w/ Nikons new Auto focus system the AF-P vs. the older AF-S. The AF-P is truly silent and focus much faster than the AF-S making it my favorite lens for shooting videos on a stabilizer. Thanks for your entire series of Nikon videos.

I have a nikon d5000 with a prime lens. is it good for videography?
Best thing I've found, especially if you are just starting, is to shop used. KEH is great for used lenses. I managed to pick up a Sigma 17-70 2.8, Fixed 35 nikkor 1.8, and a 70-300 for under $400. Both the fixed 35 and Sigma 17-70(which is a great replacement for the 18-55 kit) I got in excellent condition for under $150 each. Their rating system is really good to as even though they say its like 80-89 quality, all the lenses look brand new and are in great shape.
Do you have any trouble with the auto focus on your Sigma? Just curious, I had some issues on my D3400 when I first started using it.

so im looking for a better lens for my nikon d5600 for video so i can film my friends band play and skateboarding i got some clip on my channel i just uploaded from last night.. they kinda suck sense peopel would not move and i had to hold it on a trypod in the air but the lens seems kinda crappy

I'll have a video on this next week! They're both bokeh-licious but depends on what you're shooting - if portraits only 50mm is great if you want more versatility go with 35mm - also remember it's a APSC camera meaning x1.5 crop factor to get your actual focal length

Not sure about the 50mm as I haven't used it but be aware the crop 1.5x on apsc sensor I prefer personally 35mm

Dude I love you vids. Excellent quality for such a small channel. I've got the Canon D5200 but man I've been having problems with even average lighting(kit lense). If I go below 500 ISO it's pitch black in average room lighting. If you have any tips please share! Thanks!
Make sure you're at 18mm 3.5 aperture, if you zoom in it lowers the light, shutter down as well 1/50, if it's still dark think of investing in a cheap lighting kit!

Forget the Sigma 17-50! I was stupid too, I believed this is a secret tip.No it's not! It is an old, not so good lens ! Not as good as the 17-70 Contemporary!!!

Most of the kits don't even come with the VR II lens now, its just the standard VR. Nikon are real money grabbers.
Don't forget the af-p lenses
Americans butcher English and any language. In English and Japanese is pronounced very similar Nikon not N eye con . A 70-300 plastic lens ' really heavy " Try using my 300mm f2.8. But that is extreme a 70-300 f4 perhaps Lenses many people and pros use all day everyday . My bag would contain two D4 bodies, and metal lenses from 8mm to 400mm plus flash and extras. Carry that all day . I and I am 70.
