    New post, as I know you don't like edits: "that's what they chose to end on?" I'm one of likely most of 127k people who are sitting here in awe of your humanity for standing in the breach of pain for us. We can see it affects you, yet you do the job for us and those who will never hear your name. You, sir, are a priceless asset to humanity and a needed inspiration for us to do better.

      Beau doesn't like edits? I self edit all the time. I should proofread better and have a love/hate relationship with my auto spell. Usually it's a typo, spelling error, omitted word, or additional thought, but never in response to others except once or twice when I decided I didn't like my comment, which is fair enough to do.

      When Beau talked about being desensitized, I wanted to give him a hug. There are a lot of people out there who do really hard jobs because they need doing. A diversity of tactics. We each do what we can, and the team grows ever stronger. Each of us has a part to play, a place where each of you are the particular puzzle piece that's fits just right. Don't be afraid to make mistakes, they're an intrinsic part of learning. If we keep learning, we're doing it right.

      It makes more sense than you realise. We judge people by their dogs in particular. People's flaws in parenting are often paralelled in their dogs. Whether in truth or reality when you see someone with a lunging dog, or dog that's always hiding behind their legs, or a dog that loves people our minds automatically assumes their kids will be bullies, whimps, or well behaved.

    • @RevShifty
      @RevShifty หลายเดือนก่อน +12

      Absolutely the same here. I'll go even further and admit that if my dog doesn't like someone, I'm not going to, either.
      Or how they treat servers at a restaurant. Really, the way they treat anything or anyone that they feel they have any authority and power over. There's a million small cues that will tell you way more about a person's real character than anything they try saying or doing.

    I live in Tennessee. What keeps me encouraged living in a red state is the understanding that our state has been gerrymandering for decades. The majority of us do not support right wing thinking, but voting is set up to silence our votes and amplify the voices of the minority. Getting out and talking to people is key.

    • @cindyneeper

    • @thatjeff7550
      @thatjeff7550 หลายเดือนก่อน

      My thinking is, the more they gerrymander districts, theoretically the easier it will be to overthrow them. Case in point, the QOP pushes to make the districts around Memphis 99% democratic and the surrounding ones 55% red and 45% blue when it comes to actual voters. Ten percent difference, sure, but not all districts are that uneven--there has to be a few places that are say, 51%/49% split. And that's only with folks who actually vote, which will be almost all the QOP on the red side and about half on the blue side. Which means there's a bunch of non-voters that could be pushed into voting blue if someone could just nudge them in that direction. Case in point, I have one lady in my neighborhood who absolutely hates the QOP but won't vote because "I don't want to end up on a jury duty list." Lady, you're 83; I'm certain we could make sure you won't be selected for jury duty.

    For those not familiar with maritime law - a ship having it's "flag yanked" means the country the vessel is registered with (in the specific case of the aid ships, Guinea Bissau) has decided to remove the ship from it's registry and no longer allow it to claim rights as part of that country's merchant ships. They become "unregistered" or "stateless." Stateless ships have no legal status, and thus no legal protections that flagged ships have under international law. This also means they can be denied the ability to travel in state-controlled seas, or be able to use a country's docks. It's a _major_ thing. Look up UN Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS) if you want to learn more.

    In my day to day life I let go of my anger by focusing on the beautiful nature that surrounds me & the people who need my help. In politics I try to channel my anger into issues that people are ready (or nearly ready) to listen to. Student loan forgiveness & publicly funded university, single payer Healthcare, the humanitarian crisis over there... even small things, like talking about how a nearby town has 3x the municipal budget of my larger town & "look at how much nicer their community looks because of it."

    Religion and politics…best foundational example: Do you really think Emperor Constantine saw the light and adopted Christianity because of spiritual enlightenment? Perhaps start by reading the political reasons that powerful men took charge and shaped and leveraged the growing “ Christian” movement. First Council of Nicaea…wherein old elite men shaped and structured a new method of societal control. Best wishes on your journey…a little knowledge brings clarity😉…to quote a very old sage, “ nothing is new, under the sun”.

      Nicea really was a giant shit show, wasn't it? I respect Athanasius' theology and the Trinitarian formula but what happened to Arius was nuts. Also Constantine's conversion......extremely sus, as the youths say these days.

      @@jaynye4991 This was one of the main issues that affected the way I vote in my local primaries. I'd look up how the incumbent representative voted in 2018 (as well as any public statements against Net Neutrality), and if they voted against it, I'd vote for their opposition. I wouldn't call myself a single-issue voter, but if I did, this would be my single issue. I'm overjoyed to see this reversion of the 2018 decision.

    Dealing with anger as a progressive in a severely evangelical area is difficult. Like Beau I've spent years learning to channel or forgive or let go. "Red state" does not quite apply but the center of the hard right is here where I live in rural alberta. One way for me is watching things like Beau full of solutions and not just complaining. Left wing click bait intended to stir your anger does not help.

    Thank you for continuing to do the work that has desensitised you.
    I think we all do the work we can do. At least those of us trying to make the world a little less shit
    Before I had to retire hurt I was a youth worker. I worked with homeless kids, kids in rehab & such. It's work not everyone can do but I loved it. My Mum was a nurse working with people who've had a head injury.
    I couldn't do that. Not my gig. I couldn't do what you do but I did what I could.
    If we all do what we can, we'll get it done....except bankers & economists. They can get f**ked

    I understand being desensitized from another example... When I moved to Canada and watched the news reporting with great urgency one homicide with a total of less than 100/year in a mayor city, i was dumbfounded. I cane from a major city that reported 3000 homicides/year... There was no one that I knew who had not been touched by the violence obe way or another. A couple of decades later, I still find myself with wall buot around the subject. I couldn't do what Beau does day in and day out. In my case, it happened due to unwanted and inevitable exposure and one of the reasons I left 🫤 my gratitude to those who endure so we can have proper information...thanks Beau!

    As far as the female doctors go, the question is "which causes which?" Are people who are more accepting of female doctors also people more likely to take care of themselves? Or are female doctors that much more observant and likely to spot things early?

    • @SeasonedCitizen

      I think it could be both
      Women are generally considered to be caretakers. We do as mom says most easily when we're unwell.
      It's still true that women must work harder and achieve more to earn medical degrees.
      I believe this because my father and I rarely agreed on anything. I'm a woman, by the way. We both credit our physicians for saving our lives.
      His VA appointed cardiologist and my free clinic appointed primary care physician.
      Different times, different illnesses, same respect earned, and gratitude given.
