  • In this video we debunk some of the main mortuary myths...
    - The eyes and lips sewn shut
    - Mortuaries are scary places
    - The legs are broken to get bodies in coffins
    - We throw the organs out
    - Rigor mortis causes erections
    ... and a few other doozies.
    As usual, Tracy takes us inside the mortuary doors with her usual honest and respectful approach - so sit back, relax and prepare to learn a thing or two about the funeral industry.
    Til next time,

    Hello Tracy and Trish. I’ve never commented before but wanted to say how comforting this video is. My husband had to have an autopsy and it was such an awful time. My mind went into overdrive with terrible thoughts. I wasn’t allowed to see him and I have struggled with that. But listening to you both you have helped me so much. Tracy you are so kind and you and Trish are special. I was a hospice nurse until a few years ago but my husband died suddenly and just felt so awful that I couldn’t see him to say goodbye. Love to you both and thank you for all that you do xx

      Oh we are so very sorry to hear you lost your husband suddenly 😞 sending you are deepest condolences hope you are looking after yourself. Tracy here I totally understand your loss my mum was killed while abroad on holiday and she too had an autopsy and her injuries were to bad and we were never allowed to see her. It has taken me many years to come to terms with her death and never been able to see her but I understand now and know what happens in the care given after death this has helped me. It is a tough grieving journey to travel and some day can be hard but I have learnt to try and bring the happy memories to the front of my mind and thankful for the time I had with my mum ❤️ thank you for sharing your story and if we helped you in a tiny way we are so very touched. Take good care 💚💚

    In the UK, it has been know for legs to be broken after death in order to lie the person flat. I was a witness to this happening to an elderly person who had died in a chair at home. My experience was 10 years ago so I don't know if it would happen now, but it certainly did used to happen over here.

    Back in the early 80s my mother-in-law was cremated. It was one of the very few lawsuits of mixing ashes. I have dear friends in the mortuary we deliver flowers to and they assured me cremated remains in this day are carefully done. No one needs to worry these days. The rules are very strict about this. ♥️🐩

    Here in Barbados we have the option of renting a fancy looking casket in which a liner cremation box is placed that slides out to then be cremated whenever. The fancy casket is used to house the body during the church service

    Another very informative video on this gem of a channel! Thanks, ladies! While I didn't personally believe in any of these myths, it's still nice to get extensive answers with so much information. There's just so much to say about this profession.
    With regards to the name plates in the ashes: I was told by an archaeologist here who works mostly with human remains and therefore is in touch with people of the crematorium (for learning) that here sometimes family members who get the ashes of their loved one will scatter the ashes in a place where they're not supposed to (forests not meant for that etc.), and are not aware that here they put a little coin with the deceased's name in. So they don't realize that authorities can trace back who is illegally scattering ashes, haha. Seems like a bit of an awkward situation.

    • @Areyoudyingtoknow

      That's so interesting! Seems like a lot of trouble to go to to trace someone who scattered in the wrong place but clever, just the same 🙂

    My daughter is a certified crematorium operator. I can also confirm that one only gets their own loved one’s cremains back. They are VERY careful not to combine or confuse cremains. ❤
    HOWEVER, when she gets the bodies back from the Medical Examiners (they do the autopsies here in the USA), the bodies are never sewn back up. She gets them with the “y” incision open, and all the organs in a biohazard bag in the torso. This is so if the body needs to be embalmed, the bag is easily removed for this purpose.

It's on the job training for a mortuary tech about 1year then you can go onto study Embalming this is a 2 to 4 year course also. I went to a manufacturer of coffins and caskets but the making of the funeral furniture Was so strict each and every board had to be tested for cracks rot holes through a vibrating machine anything that was doggie went out to make wood pellets handles were checked for security coffins and caskets had to be balanced that their was not more weight on one side than the other it was fire safety all the coffins and caskets were quality assured that the bottom won't fall off the joinery was solid that the spray was done properly checked for exposed screws or nails the timber used was 3/4 inches thick whether plain coffin or high end the dyes on the machinery could not be changed because it cost down time on the line
    I asked were their any difference between an oak coffin or casket I was told f*** all if you want better you will always get it but you will pay for it as it will become fully hand made by cabinet makers and the price comes with that some people will come in with their own timber their own tree etc often times the timber is not suitable or they see the price we do have to charge
    coffins have to be of a size for especially city cemetery's as graves are just ear to ear crematorium have a certain size even for big bodies so measurements have to be accurate all timber especially for cremation have to be certified timber from sustainable Forrests it like everywhere else theirs more paper work than manual labour if a mistake was made with a coffin and the side or the bottom became lose your insurance would be hit bad with how I injured my back neck while carrying the coffin it be the manufacturers fault they told me a doggie undertaker tried to switch a coffin with a member of crematorium staff the staff members reported him as he said all cremations were filmed to avoid mistakes and timed he said we moved in took back all our stock refunded anything that was owed and we would not supply him anymore the risks were to high putting a second body in would have loosen the joinery the product could be stretched was not up to scratch and could be dangerous and unhygienic one coffin one body
    they told us that furniture for taller bodies or more larger frame was not changed extra it was to make certain the body fitted proper and were guarded the company's quality and good name basically we do not risk cowboys if anything goes wrong it expensive to deal in composition cases

    Hi tracey & Trish👋🏻 I have a couple questions
    Does rigor remain if a person is embalmed or partially embalmed? I’m just wondering because when I went to see my mum at 7 & 8 days post-mortem she was so hard that I couldn’t move her hands and was unable to take her handprints, the funeral director said that she was partially embalmed but didn’t explain what partially embalming entailed and I’m still not really sure myself.
    And this is different because its an animal but when my beloved cat passed away she went into rigor almost immediately and it shocked and unnerved me just how quick it occurred and she remained in full rigor until I buried her a week later (long story why I ended up having her for a week!) I was expecting the rigor to go after a few days but it didn’t, is that normal for an animal? She wasn’t kept in a freezer or anything
    Perhaps you could ‘save’ these questions and answer in a future video?
    Thankyou 💚

    • @Areyoudyingtoknow
      @Areyoudyingtoknow  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      So sorry to hear about the loss of your mum 😔 sending you our deepest condolences. Not to sure what the funeral directors meant by that. Maybe they mean she had a TP this is a temporary preservation ( meaning a much lower % of Embalming) but because she felt so hard I don't think this was the case because it sounds like she had been embalmed with a very strong % given how she felt. Some different makes of Embalming fluid make the body feel very firm, I use a much softer product not all Embalmers like a softer fluid, I do as the body feels more natural. As for animals I really don't know anything about the death process of cats and dogs and why there feel hard for longer, sorry I am unavailable to give you an answer on that.
      Thank you for your questions.
      Please take good care 💚💚

    My sister in law my brothers wife passed away from a brain tumor she had it for quite awhile and she didn’t we didn’t know . She drank a lot and was always drunk . Until one night while my brother was taking a shower she took the car and crashed it into their neighbors car she hit her forehead and refused to let them take her to the hospital . Her daughters were called and they made her go . At the hospital they did a cat scan and other tests that’s when they found she had a tumor the size of an orange . They removed what they could more tests showed that the cancer had been spreading too fast and far she passed away 4 months later in hospice at her daughter’s home . Now they donated the tumor to be studied science so my question is did they take the tumor right away after her death and then where do they send it.and what do they study and where what is it that they need to know? She was a beautiful kind soul I loved her and miss her very much. How can someone have such a large tumor and never even had pain. She was cremated and her ashes were scattered at the beach. WHEN WILL THEY FIND A CURE FOR ALL CANCERS

    • @Areyoudyingtoknow
      @Areyoudyingtoknow  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      That's such a sad story. We don't know the details but it's usually a lab in a university or research foundation that does this kind of study. Maybe the funeral home who arranged the funeral might have more details or the doctor that cared for her end of life. We are sorry for your loss. 😔

    I think people watch to many horror movies. The breaking of or sawing off legs was a 'Tales From The Crypt episode'. A kid was dropped off at his Uncles Funeral home and his Uncle was dirt cheap he ordered cheap coffins from China or where ever and charge people full price he would saw off there feet or a bit of there lower legs to fit into the Chinese coffins use water instead if the proper chemicals to prepare the body even take the gold teeth out of the dead persons mouth.. And there has been reports on TH-cam as well of illegal practices at sketchy funeral homes.

    Afternoon ladies, would you help me with a couple of questions please! I’ve commented before of my mum passing recently. I managed to see her a week after her death in the hospital mortuary. She still looked like my mum just cold and was sleeping peacefully! I just wonder when I saw her would anything have been done to her mouth eyes or body? ( her skin colour was the same, her eyes were closed and so was her mouth)? Or are you only embalmed and eyes capped etc when you say goodbye in a chapel of rest? I hope my question makes sense! Adore both of you by the way! Xx

    • @Areyoudyingtoknow
      @Areyoudyingtoknow  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hi Julie, we are so sorry you have lost your mum.💜 Thanks for reaching out.
      The closing or eyes)mouth is part of a basic body prep and it's something I do for every single person (where possible) that comes through our funeral home regardless of if they have a viewing it not. Even if some funeral homes only did this to those who were being viewed, when you indicated you wanted to view your mum it would have triggered this treatment to be done.
      So even though I can't speak for what other homes do, I would think she would have had a basic prep before viewing so yes, potentially just some cream and eye caps and maybe her mouth was closed. But if it worries you you can always go back to the home and ask to know exactly what was done.🌻
      Take care, lovely xx

      Hi, unfortunately the funeral industry here in Queensland Australia is unregulated 😞 anyone can set up a funeral home without any former knowledge in the industry or experience. Most genuine funeral home owners are and have been calling for the industry to be regulated, until then not many checks are done. The local council can come and inspect the building and all facilities inside and out to check in use of council laws and regulations. One day hopefully it will be fully regulated. Thanks for your question take care 💚💚

  • @amandahawkins87
    @amandahawkins87 ปีที่แล้ว

    So the thing I wanted to ask you about was the caskets being reused I know there are some places that have rental caskets if someone is being cremated and there is a cardboard insert that is placed into the rental casket that is made up to look like the interior of a normal casket but when that person is going for cremation they slide out that cardboard insert that the person is in and that's actually what they are cremated in. So you might not have rental caskets in your facility but there are definitely facilities that have rental caskets

    I have a weird question and maybe stupid question but I have always wanted to know during rigor mortise do the bodies ever sit up?? I know it’s probably a stupid question I just always wondered if there was any truth to it

    • @Areyoudyingtoknow
      @Areyoudyingtoknow  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi know question is a stupid one and it's not weird to ask. But no, bodies don't sit up even with strong rigor mortis. However as rigor mortis in a chemical reaction in the muscles and sometimes the shoulders of the body are curled slightly forward so the back of the body is not lying completely flat.
      Thank you for your question take care 😊💚

    How do you request a autopsy not done.where i just go to cremation and body left alone?

    • @Areyoudyingtoknow
      @Areyoudyingtoknow  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      You will only need an autopsy if there is suspicion around the way you died (in Australia that's how it works).. and in that case it's a legal requirement so you can't choose not to have one. Everything else you just tell your family or prepay the funeral home and tell them. We have people all the time who are no service, direct cremation ..just make sure your wishes are known xx thanks for the question 💚

    Without been disrespectful in anyway, do you want to comment on the Queen’s funeral ? She wasn’t buried for ten days after her death? Her coffin was huge, for such a little lady! Her coffin was lead lined ….thoughts……? Thanks T&T.♥️

    • @Areyoudyingtoknow
      @Areyoudyingtoknow  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Hi Chief, we didn't think it was right to do a video as we do not have all the facts I don't want to speculate on things. The queen would have been embalmed in Balmoral where she died, the Royal family have a funeral company in London that's has taken care of them for many many years. The reason she would be embalmed is because she is placed in a vault and when placed in vaults all coffins are lined usually with metal lines not lead it's to heavy and expensive. Thank you for your suggestion. Take good care 😊💚💚

    Undertaker relation of my says you can never use a coffin twice
    as once a coffin come from one direction of the country to his funeral home the father did not like the coffin the body came in and wanted a catholic one with last supper handles he payed up for both coffins and we placed the cheaper chipboard one in the cleaning room as the coffin supplier said he can take it away and they had a place in the factory to destroy cracked timber and various broken coffins as you understand you do not want to put it into the regular land fill bin and set long stories going around
    but the body was frozen for the journey and melted slightly their was about two teaspoons of water liquid but two days later the smell was high we took the coffin to the farm as a smell around the home would set more stores off
    We set fire to the coffin it burned up very quickly in ten minutes it was gone with out a trace so definitely no it cannot be reused
    Cutting the legs arms no it hard enough to deal with that after a traffic accident than to do it on purpose the risk of leakages is to high when someone body is shattered you do your very best to give the family a viewing but leaks dampness on the clothing leaking from the bottom of the coffin even if you put duble sheeting the inside of a coffin nothing is guaranteed an old embalmer once said we do our very best but can guarantee nothing
    And cremation no to two bodies except twin babies or mother and baby these are rare thank God but only done at family request he said that pilling body's in a crematorium won't work
    A no room
    B to many bodies in the tort could cause a fire and cause up to quater of million in damage as these mecheans are very expensive and need rebricking ever year depending on use it happened in the USA once but the it was not a human cremation oven they were using it was an animal waste crematorium they used
    And the storage of coffins have to be stored in dry area as they are made of wood and the American metal ones they are expensive stock and any blemish or damage or if timber is in a damp are And swells or warped well you cannot do a deal on your secondary soiled section and if you you have a coffin with the slightly of scratch that a owl would not see as certain as your bum is facing the ground it will be found

    Okay how about the stories about funeral directors having sex with bodies or people paying to do that. Sam Kinison was a comedian and he told a true story how these gay men would pay the Funeral directors or even the hospital morgues $$ to come in and have there way with the most fresh dead corpses. Not all places are legit and there are a lot of sick people out there that do way worse but what kind of twisted mind would want to make it with a corpse YUK!! it's a disturbed world out there. These things happen stories don't come from nowhere maybe embellished a bit. But the States, Europe is a warped place.
