    The residential Lishi tools in the Kwikset (KW1 and KW5) and Schlage (SC1 and SC4) are extremely powerful tools in the right hands. They are 2-in-1 pick and decoders. They can help the inexperienced picker make short work of Kwikset and Schlage locks. With these tools you can precisely pick the residential lock and then decode the keypins which will allow you to make the key. Being able to do this is both exciting and concerning at the same time.
    Prior to this, the original creator of the tool “Original Lishi” was your only option at the high cost of $120 and you needed to show you were a locksmith to purchase it. Now, anyone can purchase the knockoff tool for less money (these were listed for $59). Lets check out first-hand how these tools look right out of the box and see if they are able to perform to the same standard as the $120 tool!

    They are both original/genuine tools. If you read up on the history of Lishi, you would find out that UAP created the first Lishi tools in collaboration with Mr. Li. They had a falling out and they split, but due to contracts UAP can use the Lishi name. So one way to distinguish them was "Original" that you see state side, and "Genuine" that you see in Europe. Both are same quality, only difference is finish.

    Cheaper ones are fine. Lishi which means Mr. Lee in Chinese, he invented the tools off of German picks. German picks did not have the depth and spaces so Mr. Lee incorporated into the tool so that it's much easier to pick since you don't have to guess around, like converting violin into guitar if that makes easier to understand. At the early stage of tool developing, the English distribution company filed patent for the tool since Mr.Lee was not familiar with the patent process. So it became a big thing about the rights to produce the tools between Mr. Lee and them. So the English company came up with the name Genuine Lishi vs Lishi tool. At early stage locksmith tool distributors sold Genuine Lishi more than Lishi Tools not knowing the background story but lately most of them are carrying Lishi tools so I guess they sided with Mr. Lee than Genuine Lishi. I bought both of them at the beginning and both were pretty much identical in quality so if you buy Genuine Lishi products you should be fine. The plastic casings are actually the idea of Genuine lIshi because Lishi tools shipped out a case at the beginning. Don't know how they sorted out the patent issue but the quality again should be the same. My 2 cents.

  • @westernlocksmith5474
    @westernlocksmith5474 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Regarding SC1 vs SC$ and KW1 vs KW5, I thought the same and wanted to get only SC4 but some 5 pin cylinders do not let SC4 tools to enter all the way so depth and space could be off you still can work around the issue but what made me to buy separate sc1 is the tension aspect. If you use SC4 tool in 5 pin cylinder then the 90 bump where the blade ends(shoulder) does not go into the cylinder and you are putting the tension on the much weaker blade instead of the shoulder. You still can pick the lock but you have to be very careful not to twist the blade.

    So, I'm here after looking up original lishi tools, and saw that key ways have a sort of "family tree" that stems from one basic shape. Do the clone lishis come in that one base shape for the different lock brands, or do you have to get all of the specific shapes? I'd like to just get the base shapes for the most used locks, because I've been wanting to start up an emergency locksmith business for a while now. But I don't have the funds for the expensive stuff right off the mark.

    Hello so your saying I can pick up the SC4 and KW5 since they work the same as the 1's versions, but can open more locks with the extra length. In the video you used them on a 6 cylinder lock as intended, but have you used the SC4/KW5 on 5 cylinder locks with success? The only reason I ask is since the SC4/KW5 6 pin tool is longer when it bottom out will the design not allow it to grab the number 5 pin without needing to pull out. I'm assuming by default the SC4/KW5 in the 5 pin lock will already be one slot outside the lock when it bottoms out but will it still be able to grab all 5 pins? Thanks

    Seeing that the original tool has a matte surface I'd wager a guess: the "genuine" variant's surface will scratch up if used a lot and therefore become harder to read.

    I bought a MS1/MS2 Lishi on eBay to decode Master Locks. It displays Mr Lishi's face. A locksmith couldn't cut any useable keys from the cut numbers I provided. I read the numbers on the tool several times so I know I was correct. I only found one video showing a key being cut from Lishi numbers and demonstrating that the key fit. The locksmith discovered that he had to add 1 to each key cut number for it to work. Don't waste over $100 on a tool that can't decode correctly.

      You likely were applying tension to the arm of the tool, which will deflect it and show the wrong depth. You have to let the arm simply lay down from gravity. I can assure you, these tools are not the problem, it's operator error. I ran into the same problem the first time using them.
