- A little spotlight on the gorgeous species orchid Paphiopedilum philippinense. Native to the Philippines, this is a green strap-leafed multifloral paphiopedilum. It is a successive bloomer and will open 3-5 blooms per flower stem simultaneously, creating a wonderful multifloral display that lasts for months.
This paphiopedilum requires Cattleya strenght light and strong air movement to thrive. It is tolerant of a wide range of temperatures but grows the strongest in the warmer months. I let mine dry out slightly between waterings in winter, but water frequently in summer to keep it evenly moist.
It is a relatively slow grower for the orchid world and each fan can take around 2 years to mature completely and bloom. But the wait is worth it, and very spectacular.
The blooms have a striking striped dorsal petal and ribbon-like petals which extend 20-25cm. As with other paph flowers, I adore the cute little fuzz it has of the back of the blooms and stem. As I mention in the video, it is my favourite orchid to bloom.
I hope you enjoy as much as I do. Happy growing!!

Thanks for the notes, where are you based? just to get a sense of light/rain conditions and light patterns. Thanks!
That is a beautiful paph. I have a hybrid of philipensis and lowii which is in bud now and I'm very excited ! I spotted another beauty at the background. Can you do a spotlight for the other paph as well, pls?
oooo... that sounds like a beautiful cross!! Will be keeping an eye out for the blooms on your channel! The paph in the background is a Paphiopedilum hirsutissimum var esquirolei. It's really beautiful actually but I got it in bud so I won't do a spotlight on it. It will definitely feature in my next month's orchids in bloom vid though :)
@@OrchieDee I have last year's video from my paph in bloom, if you'd like to see the blooms, they are amazing! And that was a reason to get more paphs and phrags.
love your papio.
Where do you get this flower?
