The Statue of Liberty is one of the most iconic monuments in the world. And it's a classic tourist attraction in New York City. However, it is located on its own island. Because of this Liberty Island and Ellis Island are not as easy to get to as most night think. You have to take a ferry ride over. So in this video we will talk about everything you need to know when visiting Liberty Island and Ellis Island. This will include explaining ferry access to Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island and which NYC ferry to take.

UPDATE: There is actually food on Ellis Island. In the video I mentioned that there was not. More details in the comment from The Megan Daily below.
Well detailed great work
Good video! Thank you so much!
Your videos are very impressive. They are certainly among the top one when talking about NYC. Very well documented, you are answering about any question a foreing tourist would ask. And you are a so good communicator too with your pictures, drawings, and short descriptions. No time lost, direct to the point, and very well explained. Thanks.
Absolutely amazing video.
Thanks! Complete information, helps a lot.
Thank you for this helpful video
Dang !!! Super informative Thanks
Wow! The detail of the ferry routes! Thank you so much! You are New York's Guide Diamond!
As always thank you! I'm glad I can provide useful information. Thanks for watching all of them. 😊

I’m about to visit NYC your vids helped me a lot in planning. 💖
Very helpful 👍
Thanks very helpful
Thank You from Lithuania. Great video.
Greetings from China. I have been followed your channel since "NYC subway guide" and I want to say the quality of your video is the best guide video I ever seen! NYC is the dream city that I want to visit for almost 13 years but I haven't gotten a chance to US for a visit. What a pity. Since I majored in civil engineering and architecture, the Statue of Liberty is one of my favorite statues. And I am so excited you made a such brilliant video about it! Thank you! Hope to see more wonderful videos about NYC.
Thank you so much! 😊 I'm glad you are finding value in my content even though you are not able to visit.
Thanks Urban for your help
Very informative and useful video. Thank you!
You're welcome! 😊 Thanks for always watching.
tHIS IS A EXCELELLNT VIDEO, VERY WELL EXPLAINED, THANK YOU VERY MUCH
goosebumps seeing your video ... the feeling of being there recently ❤❤❤missing much NYC
Thanks for watching. Glad I could "extend" your visit. 😊
@@UrbanCaffeine How I wish 🙏🙏🙏pls extend ☺️☺️☺️ your NYC videos are truly Amazing 😘 My Partner and I were BIG fan of your YT coz we really watched and got a lot of ideas while planning our daily itineraries going to NYC. Many thanks Ma'am for sharing your tips and info🙏 Indeed we had a successful NYC travel and best travel ever (1-6 & 14-16 July2022) Hope to meet you in NYC one day 🙏🙏🙏
Cool video Thea 😎 big thumbs up 👍 I only been to the Statue of Library ones in the mid 1960s. I remember being inside the head of the statue. The ferry boat back them was the Circle Line. Thanks for the information 😎👍
Greetings Thea from a wintery Sydney Australia. Really loved the video as always - 5 stars !!! Can't wait to get back to NYC in June 2023 - Last visit seems so long ago now in 2018. All the best.
Wow, 2018 seems like it wasn't that long ago! Time passes so quickly. All the best to you too! Good luck on planning your trip.
Good videos😊
Thank you so much for all of your videos. I work for a tourism nonprofit and I've actually recommended your videos to visitors who need more information about taking the subway. As for the statue of liberty, it's awful when tourists are scammed with fake tickets or tickets that only go near the statue.
That's so nice of you to share my videos! I'm glad they are helping out a lot of people. Are there any other topics that you would like to see covered to tourist might find useful?
@@UrbanCaffeine Yes, they always ask about museums, specifically the art museums.
Great video
Thank you! 😊
We totally loved the trip to Liberty Island and Ellis Island and spent a total of around 5 hours on both islands. Ellis Island is a must see, in my opinion, many didn't disembark the ferry. Wish we would have also done the hard hat tour, but hopefully we'll get the chance some other time. Gotta visit New York again, it was amazing!
I hope you get to visit again too! There's always more to see. Thanks for watching! 😊
Visit to the crown is now open. Recently booked crown access.
When I visited my family took
the ferry. After arriving at Penn
Station from 30th Street in Philly, PA.
Taking a ferry is always fun! I hope you enjoyed it.
Thank you for all of your videos - we really love them!!! We're coming from Hawaii and feel MUCH better prepared after watching them. Question: we have tickets for the Crown Reserve tour later in the afternoon. We are starting from Battery Park and wondered if we could leave early to visit Ellis Island first, and then take a Jersey ferry to get back to Liberty Island for our scheduled tour? (We understand that once we get back to Battery Park we can't come back in. )
Hi. Love you videos! Is it OK to take the ferry from NJ to see the statue and on the way back take the ferry to Manhattan? Or is the ticket only valid to the NJ bound ferry?
I’ve found The Color Factory to be very interesting. Quite a group a activity to engage the senses.
Sound like you had a good time! I've never been to the Color Factory but the pictures make it look like a really fun place.
Hi from Australia 🇦🇺
I looove your videos. So easy to follow and very helpful - thank you and keep up the great work 😍
Thanks so much! 😊 I try to make content as straight-forward as possible. Glad you appreciate it!
Would the lockers hold both a stroller and car seat travel system? Would like to know how large they are.
I don't know if you can help me, but I have a question about the crown ticket. I'm going to NY in september and I already have my access to climb into the crown (at 10am), but I have to redeem my actual ticket at the ticket booth in battery park. But on the website it says that 10am is my "entry into the Security Facility". What does that mean? Is it the security check before boarding the ferry in battery park? Or another security check on liberty island? With crowd and lines, I don't know how long before 10am I should arrive at battery park and where exactly I have to be at 10am.
I've always wanted to go back to see the Statue of Liberty. Maybe this time I'll see that mermaid!😎 Thanks for the shoutout.
You bet! It's fun to do at least once. It's surprising how a lot of people that live in NY haven't actually been on Liberty Island.
I was really bummed out when I saw how many people on our ferry stayed on instead of getting off on Ellis Island. It's a huge part of the American story, and people just didn't care
I agree. It was the same on the day we were there. And the Ellis Island Museum was fantastic! So informative and we also found information on people who left from our home country, Romania. It was quite a surprise :)
I’ve just realised that if you go from Liberty State Park in New Jersey, it will also allow people to see the 9/11 memorial and, the ‘reclining Liberty’ statue beforehand. 🙂👍🏻🙃.
HI, is the crown open again? Thanks
Can you board the ferry in new jersey and get off in nyc after the trip?
Any idea why the Crown tickets are unavailable?
Megan mentioned the lockers on Liberty Island needing a quarter, and she's right, but you actually get the quarter back when you retrieve your stuff. They don't allow much on the pedestal level. Be ready to check almost everything. No backpacks or purses.
That's some good advice! The problem is having a quarter at all. I guess someone could ask the bookstore? 😅
@@UrbanCaffeine I wish I could remember if there was a change machine there next to the lockers. Pretty sure Terry had a quarter on her.
Would the lockers hold both a stroller and car seat travel system? Would like to know how large they are.
@@Sashaskyy26 barely large enough for a purse
Thea can take us to the Governor Island next time, or the Little Island.
Aww, thank you Thea for featuring my comment haha.
7:25 How did you get a purple heart next to my name? Or is that a Chrome plugin
Rice and beans are still pretty cheap
The purple heart means you are a high receiver of hearts from this channel. I guess I get to see that on my end. And good thing rice and beans are still cheap! College students don't have to rely solely on ramen.
They changed the name of the ferry company? I miss the old Thea. I've climbed to the crown...not advised for the claustrophobic.
Hey ! I’ll be in NY for the 4th of July, do you have any activities ideas or tips because I don’t find very much information on internet ? :)
Also I’m visiting the statue on 06/29, I’m so happy to be able to see such an important part of the US history ! 😊
If you are willing to brave the crowd, NYC has an impressive fireworks display. Here's a pretty good guide on how to view the fireworks: loving-newyork.com/4th-of-july-fireworks-in-nyc-coronavirus/
I recommend going to either Brooklyn or Long Island City.
@@UrbanCaffeine thank so much of ur response, definitely going to look at the article :)
Hey there !!! This was so helpful lol I'm taking my son to see the statue the end of this month.. how long does it take to get from New York Airport to the ferry ?? And is it better to uber/lyft or taxi?
Hello there! It depends on which airport you are coming from. From JFK, probably an hour. From LGA, maybe 40 minutes. From JFK, I would take a taxi since there's a fix rate. From LGA, I would take an Uber/Lyft so I can easily calculate the fare. Are you going straight from the airport to the Statue of Liberty? Just make sure you don't have luggage with you since they don't allow large bags. Have a great trip!
@@UrbanCaffeine thank youuuu.. yes I would be coming straight from the airport all I was going to have was a backpack
@@Iameuphoria Then you should be fine.😊It's suitcases that they don't allow. Hope you have a great time with your son!
Do we need to make reservations?
Great video. One thing I’m Confused about, is that on their site it says you need to use a mask at all times. Is this true? Even outside??
Hi there. Mask restrictions are changing all the time. But most institutions like museums still require a mask indoors. So I'm guessing on the ferry and inside the museums, they are still enforcing a mask.
Hi Thea from Egypt, ,I will be at NW after 3 weeks.what your advise .make a ticket resevation now or when be Iam there??
Hi there! If you have a strict schedule, it wouldn't hurt to book now so you get the time that you want. If you want to wait until you get here to see how the weather is, that's possible too. You can check online to see how far out tickets start to be sold out.
@@UrbanCaffeine Another question please, for 10 days staying at NW only what is your advice for mobile sim Giga's package if my consumption is low?
I get the answer from another TH-camr thanks, switch back to your previous reply, You mentioned the weather, it could prevent me to make a tourism tour due to July weather???
@@035844907 Not really. It's just some people prefer to go when it's sunny. Sometimes it can rain in July. 😅 But if you don't care about the weather, then it shouldn't be an issue.
Do I have to buy the tickets ahead or can I buy them the same day in person?
It's possible to buy them in person but they might sell out.
You should mention that pedestal reserve tickets sell very fast.
Thanks for the tip!
If we get in the ferry from New Jersey are we allowed to return in the ferry to battery park?
I was wondering the same
😊👍🇹🇹🇹🇹
Do you have the official link to book tickets please ?
Hi there. You can book tickets here: bit.ly/3trxT1k
Thank you so much we are coming august from the UK 60th Birthday treat we love your videos thanks once again
Where I can buy a ticket in battery park
At Castle Clinton.
@@UrbanCaffeine thanks
So Ellis Island is $74? If I want to skip Liberty I still pay $74? And when I go to buy tickets on the website, there is no option for the Hard Hat Tour, just the Pedestal Tour. I'm kinda confused but I know I should not be! I only want to go to Ellis Island and see the museum.
Hello there. If just want to go to Ellis Island for the museum, all you need is general admission which is $24. As for the Hard Hat Tour, perhaps the day you are looking at has sold out.
problem is ticket availability is insane
Hello po Filipino po kayo? 1st time kasi namin ni Wife pumunta ng NY galing kami sa Virginia Teacher po sya! sana matulongan nyo po kami paano ang pasikot sikot salamat po!
🙏🩵
If we want to buy ticket for pedestal , then total cost for us is 24+24.30. Is that correct?
Rational people no longer the crime ridden New York City.
Thank you for this info. I just purchased my ticket just now tbh here at your link 🥹 you’re the best
