Ian Hills bass playing was pretty awesome on the early priest albums. Once they found their sound as a band, he dialed it back big time in order to serve the songs better. He is and always was an incredible bassist.

With the addition of Glen , Ian Hills solid bass playing gets buried in the mix. When it's just him and Ken it's apparent how underrated he is!

I recently saw him explaining how while Ken & Glen traded off on solos, His Job was to make sure the beat stayed constant. He showed how he did the bass to Hell Bent, but, as you say, unlike Steve Harris, Jimmy Lea & Geddy Lee, he somehow gets lost in the mix. Even so, when I saw them live a few times.

    This is fucking fantastic!!
So cool listening to the original ideas and how they morph into something completely different by the time it hits the studio or producers….
And this version of “victim of changes”
( whiskey woman) is truly a whole different song and great in its own right!!
Just another testament to the greatness
    Of the mighty JUDAS PRIEST!!
Thank you for posting this !!
And thank you Judas Priest for 50 years
    Of awesomeness and badassery!!

This is pretty cool. I remember reading a while back that when the Rocka Rolla album was released, that the producer cut out a bunch of songs the band wanted in it, so it could be more radio friendly. This was apparently one of them, as it is almost identical to Victim of Changes. Maybe it was a good thing the producer butchered it, as Sad Wings of Destiny is one of my favorite albums.
But it is pretty cool to hear the early version of the song and see how it changed the band.

I just realize JP almost had same history as Scorpions : started a band, then break up, joined other band & re-named it with previous band's name. 😅

Rob became the lead singer of Priest in 1971, and this demo is from 1973. So definitely Halford.
