Al Atkins - Mind Conception
มุมมอง 364ปีที่แล้ว
"Mind Conception" was written by Al Atkins, the original frontman for Judas Priest. Although it appeared on a demo it was not released until 1998 when a 3 minute 46 second version appeared on his solo Victim Of Changes album. The original was not released until 2016 on the Reloaded album. In a February 2017 interview through his management, Al explained [quoted verbatim]: "'Mind Conception' was...

    Wish there were more recordings and of better quality of you back in Judas Priest for people to truly appreciate your talent, just heard Morpheus and it sounds great! If there’s one thing that we know, it’s that Judas Priest has always had amazing singers. As it says on the back of the first pressing of Rocka Rolla, “Thanks for the words Al”.

    Ian Hills bass playing was pretty awesome on the early priest albums. Once they found their sound as a band, he dialed it back big time in order to serve the songs better. He is and always was an incredible bassist.

    This is pretty cool. I remember reading a while back that when the Rocka Rolla album was released, that the producer cut out a bunch of songs the band wanted in it, so it could be more radio friendly. This was apparently one of them, as it is almost identical to Victim of Changes. Maybe it was a good thing the producer butchered it, as Sad Wings of Destiny is one of my favorite albums. But it is pretty cool to hear the early version of the song and see how it changed the band.

    Great track going back to the early days of Judas Priest. In many bands the influence of early members like Al Atkins or is criminally underrated. The same applies to Paul di'Anno and Iron Maiden.

    I'm really surprised that when Ken decided to create K.K.'s Priest he didn't drag Al back into to the band. Would have been a lot better than either one did alone. This song sounds like an awful version of Motorhead.

    With the addition of Glen , Ian Hills solid bass playing gets buried in the mix. When it's just him and Ken it's apparent how underrated he is!

    • @marcstevens8576
      @marcstevens8576 ปีที่แล้ว

      I recently saw him explaining how while Ken & Glen traded off on solos, His Job was to make sure the beat stayed constant. He showed how he did the bass to Hell Bent, but, as you say, unlike Steve Harris, Jimmy Lea & Geddy Lee, he somehow gets lost in the mix. Even so, when I saw them live a few times.

      This is the first time I heard this and I had to look it up to see if they had a different bass playerearly on… his cut ins and fills as well as his timing in space are impeccable - and more difficult to execute than they seem @ 1st blush

    Hey! Any new work Mr. Atkins!? I’m a huge Judas Priest fan. Theres a video out there stating it was a live show with you on vocals, and you guys were opening up for Budgie and did encores together. Is that true? Some years ago I worked on Tim Owen’s Beyond Fear artwork. I’m a cartoonist and newspaper graphic artist. I never get many cool moments like that. Would love to keep in touch, and hear new music!
