You won't notice if your niece misses a half-beat in her recital, it's not so complex that that throws it off at all - but when every single bit of it is executed with absolute perfection, it's transcendental. And I'm not even a musician…but I am a chef, so I know that the simplest dishes can be the hardest to execute, because perfection…and of course Schiff is perfect.

@@chrismc1834 ahh i completley forgot about this piece, so thank you chris for commenting. I did learn this to concert level and what helped me was mostly dotted rhytms on the repeated(ish) parts. so anyways happy practice!

There is a joke that asks how many trumpet players does it take to change a light bulb, the answer being 10: one to change it and 9 to say how they would have done it differently (better). There is indeed an awesome responsibility in playing a piece that most of your audience has played and knows every note, nook, and cranny of. And of course, since it's a masterpiece, there is a special responsibility,
this Invention is very very easy about technic ( three years work-piano ) three hours a day ; Bach composed here for his children very well for egality of the five fingers
Saw a seven and nine year old play the same piece just as well. This isn't even a challenge for him, but he plays it as an encore. Then bows as if he just won a van cliburn competition. Yuja blows his doors off.
I never liked playing this piece... i hated playing all bach inventions except for n1. I played n1 n8 n14 n15. I hated every second of it. But listening to bach is pretty cool.
Too fast! And then that ridiculous banging of the final chord! This is merely showing off, with contempt for the beauty of the original piece and for the audience.
It is lightning speed but the interpretation is flawless. His alternating legato and staccato bring it to life even at this tempo. The loud ending probably had something to do with this being an encore piece meant to say “here you go!”

Played by a master, this piece takes on a new significance.
