    As an A600 owner Relokick was a great thing to have. It always suprises me how many people don't realise it exists.

    I remember that The One cover! I would have turned 15 this month. Man time.. does a thing when you're doing things. Happy to see more cover disk vids!

      Its a lovely game, even if I've never been great at dungeon crawlers.

    I believe, i still have the cover disk with
    UNSENSIBLE SOCCER for my Amiga 500.
    When me and one of my friends played
    a single game, APPLES AND ORANGES,
    we laughed 😹👍🕹️🕹️.
    HIRED GUNS is one of the best and one of the most inspiring role-playing games ever made for the Amiga 😺👍🕹️.

    I think we had the CU Amiga one, that attractive front cover rings a bell. That was towards the end of my first year of secondary school and the Amiga was still holding its own as a gaming machine, getting top notch versions of hit games like Flashback. That said, in hindsight I think my brother and I would have preferred to get the Amiga Format issue which would have shown us Hired Guns, a game which I've never played and I've often lamented that fact.

      Wasn't all that often with the Amiga, but it was always cool when they did!

    06:05 Controversial inclusion for a coverdisk here. Relokick was essentially a 'warez' version of an entire Kickstart 1.3 ROM without permission and a scene hacked front-loader. Given just how jealously guarded that bit of code remains to this very day, I don't know how they got away with it.

    • @GouldFishOnGames
      @GouldFishOnGames  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I was wondering if it included a full KS 1.3 rom or just enough parts to trick the machine.
      It is surprising they included it, but I'm sure a lot of Amiga owners were very happy.

    I actually had the One issue you showed. I liked Flashback but Superfrog and Woody's World are the ones I really enjoyed playing off the disks. I think Woody's World is a very under-rated wee platformer. Not the best but I like it and I love the almost prog like soundtrack on it.

    • @GouldFishOnGames
      @GouldFishOnGames  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I hadn't played Woodys world before so that was a lovely find, and it had some nice music in the demo.

    • @AmbersKnight
      @AmbersKnight 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@GouldFishOnGames Yeah that music is the one from the finished game and it does have a strange prog rock feel to it. Very laid back and can be listened to outwith the game (or at least I can).

    Gosh I had an A600 and a bought ALL the Amiga mags back in the day but I can't remember if I used ReloKick...? Maybe I did as I usually "obtained my games" from a friend who had an A500 and I'm sure I would have come across a few titles that weren't happy with KickStart 2.04 - really enjoying these looks into the cover disks of the day!

  • @mcbpete
    @mcbpete 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    Had that CU Amiga mag with ReloKick (assumed the name was short for something like Relocate Kickstart?) and blew my mind little 10 year old mind just to see the A500 boot screen on my A500+ 😄. Ironically I think I mostly used it to play old CU demo disks that had demos and PD games that only worked on the 500 ... but might've needed it for PacLand too. In hindsight (knowing how precious Cloanto now are with the Amiga rom set nowadays) I wonder how Commodore felt about this utility back in the day - Wonder if it actually had a software dump of the 1.3 kickstart ?

    • @GouldFishOnGames
      @GouldFishOnGames  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I was wondering that as well, if it was a full kickstart rom on the disk, or just enough modules to trick to make a decent number of games load.
      and I get the need for using it with the cover disks, had to jump between kickstarts and machines to record some of these episodes!

    As I recall Danny + Nik were Brothers who both appear in the game.
    Yes, they could have give away 1/6 --- Doom gave 1/3.

    100% agree with your ranking but for me the electronic diagrams, even if they were essentially filler, deserve an honourable mention as I was (still am) very much interested in making my own devices back then. I’ve made several annoying things over the years but sensible projects interested me too.
    Amiga Power:
    The Body Blows demo might have caught my interest, perhaps more than the final game did. It perhaps promises more than it can deliver?
    I love Sleep Walker. I enjoyed it, frustrations & all but a half level demo would have been a down mark for me. Full level or unique demo level, no half measures.
    CU Amiga:
    What can I say about Flashback? Well I can contradict what I said about half levels, even that would have sold me on the game. Even if we didn’t get the horrendous “just record anyone on a tea-brake” voice… “acting” in the CD versions.
    I actually have a copy of Reload Kick with my Amiga & getting it free in the day would have been very welcome.
    Nothing wrong with Kid Pix but nothing about it I would have needed.
    Super Frog! A full level demo would definitely have sold it to me!
    Amiga action:
    Body Blows again?
    Furmyre looks like one of those SEUCK that’s better than average but it’s still another SEUCK shooter.
    I haven’t played Creatures either & a 2 level demo is a nice touch but it looks a but slow for me?
    Unsensible Soccer. Ok.
    Amiga Format:
    That’s a pretty substantial demo kit. It may well have sold me on the game given the scale of what the demo alone gave you?
    I like the electronics stuff. It may have been filler but I’d have had fun making the adapter & the controller, then spending an hour trying to figure out which joints I’d bridged. 😄
    The one for Amiga:
    Flashback demo again?
    Woody’s World seems like a demo I’d be interested in? Something I haven’t seen before.
    A different Super Frog demo? If I’d known I’d probably have bought both mags just for the content?
    Oblivion looks like a decent Defender clone & given that there was no official Defender for the Amiga it would have peaked my interest.
    Turbo Terminator would have peaked my interest as a Hang On fan.

      The first few months of the year seems to be quite hard on the magazines with getting demos, so a few of them getting the same ones happened more often.
      although with Superfrog they gave out different levels which as you said was nice.
      and yeah the half levels were annoying, Flashback atleast told you that you finished the demo.
      Sleep walker was just a wall, I have memories of playing it back in the day and wondering if there was something I'd forgotten.
      and Woodys World was the biggest surprise of the episode, I want to track down a copy as it was lots of fun to play.
      even if it wasn't quite up to the heights of Flashback or Hired Guns.

      Great examples of the "extra RAM" screen included Pinball Fantasies! Oh, and Hired Guns sounds epic through a pre amp unit.

    Never understood why the jump sound in Body Blows happens when you leave the ground rather than land.

    Sleepwalker I will now associate forever with Vic Reeves being utterly useless at it on GamesMaster, so useless it looks like they didn't get enough gameplay footage to fill the segment and had to repeat the same bit of him falling in a hole and being unable to get out.

    • @mcbpete
      @mcbpete 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I remember that 😄 (might be misremembering him saying his performance was 'very poo-er indeed') Had no idea the demo had a 'dead end' - I just assumed I wasn't doing something correctly and would continually just ran out of time/energy/sleep-power. As with the demo to Robocop I got on the C64 I think it even put me off getting the full thing ("Well if I can't even finish the demo there's no point buying the full priced game!")

    Wow, Furmyre is one of the least terrible looking SEUCK games I've seen. Nice job dev! That fake high score screen is hilarious though.
    Oblivion actually has more going on than the original Defender (which Mark Sibly also did a version of) and takes some stuff from arcade Defender sequel Stargate, and adds vertical scrolling.

    • @GouldFishOnGames
      @GouldFishOnGames  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yeah its amazing the lengths they went to, to hide the fact it was a SEUCK game, I think they messed with the palettes so the loading text wouldn't show up.
      I've never put all that much time into defender or its follow up, but I was sure that some one in the comments would let me know the differences!
      Thanks.
