Great video mate. Spectacular take off. She's a beauty, the PC-12. I am very fond of the Turbo Arrow IV as far as turboprops go but the Pilatus is such a majestic machine. Swiss engineering at it's finest.
Seen some of Fox’s work so I know they do a great job! Love it when you show features of the avionics! We didn’t get the Dierks Bentley reference…..buttered the landing!!
Thanks Larry! I really liked it also, and I only did it because my PFD camera shut itself off so I didn’t have that angle. But I might have to consider ditching the 4-panel view for this when it is VFR!
Thanks! It was fun doing something a little different than usual for the intro. And I wouldn’t have been able to if Fox hadn’t gotten me some cool footage!😁
Great video again Grant. Missing my days in the Heli. Your vids provide a great escape back into the aviation world from the corporate world, so keep them coming :)
Another great video Grant....cool take off as well!! The 12 looks amazing with the ceramic coating......always look forward to your videos!! Well done.......safe travels!🛩🛩✌✌
Another great video, very enjoyable. Thanks for creating them for us!! Some feedback: Like the split screens on takeoff and landing. Like the verbalization of what you are thinking and doing. Can you compare the TBM versus the PC-12, I expect each has it's own unique advantages?
Thanks! The TBM is faster. In my opinion (with limited time in a TBM), that’s really about its only advantage, at least for the older ones. The 960 has autoland for emergencies which is really cool. The Pilatus is a lot more comfortable for passengers, has longer legs, carries more, and has better takeoff and landing performance. And nothing compares to the versatility of the PC12.
1st video, liked and subscribed!!! Love the PC-12 and the viewing angles you provide and I love the fact there's no music! Just cockpit environment! Not a pilot but always loved aviation! I'm looking forward to more of your videos!!! Especially now that there will soon be a new PC-12 for MSFS licensed by Pilatus to be modeled by SimWorks Studios that I am really looking forward to learning how to fly in the sim!
Great intro. Thanks for the ride. She looks good after the coating! Have you ever flown with SteveO? Or a TBM? If so, how is it different from the PC-12NG?
Thanks! I haven’t flown with SteveO. I have been in a TBM a couple times but don’t have much stick time. It’s faster than the PC12, but doesn’t fly as far or carry as much. And it doesn’t have the nice trailing link gear to make even the bad landings greasers!😁
I love your videos, I have been flying for over 35 years , 63 years old , I have owned a Baron for 18 years, thinking about a pc12 , what is the annual cost per year being pilot operated based on 100 hours a year
Bernard, it’s always had the 5-blade prop on it. You actually lose a bit of top end speed the more blades you have, but climb rate and takeoff performance increase.
Nice. Liked your external camera angle on takeoff from M11. Did you do the MQY - GSH leg immediately after fueling up at Smyrna? Would really love to see that evening takeoff too. Also looking forward to your flight with Steveo. Thanks for the videos - keep 'em coming, please.
Ah didn’t mean to imply that I did a flight with him! Just rode along in a TBM with a local guy. I did fuel up and continue to GSH, but I don’t have extra batteries for all my cameras so I didn’t record it.
The company I fly for had a Cessna 421 before getting the Pilatus and I had almost 1,000hrs in it. I went to SimCom for initial simulator training and also got some mentoring.
Thanks Mark! They recommend retreating it annually. But I think the parts that get hit by the exhaust are the only parts that really need recoated that often.
Thanks! I use earbuds connected to an iPad and put the mic part inside the headset earcup. Captures the sound exactly as I hear it although it is a bit of a hassle to set up each time.
Hey Grant, nice camera work! Great bonus with the Fox Aviation Service video! Gotta try that extended ground effect on takeoff- just a little! The PC-12 is coming to Flight Simulator in September. Do you have time to do any flight simulation at home? Blue skies!
Thanks! I haven’t done any flight sim in a really long time. But it sounds like there’s several PC12s coming to MSFS, so I might have to get a setup going! It’d be fun for the kids too. 😁

4:37 when I noticed I've missed something (yeah it happens to everyone), I stop and carefully review the relevant checklists as the likelihood of me having missed something else just went up.
@@GrantBaker because if there is any issue after fuel is introduced the only thing that can be done without melting the motor is fuel cut off pressing inhibit will melt the motor, and after 50% it will disengage automatically. I have seen new guys melt half a million dollar motors doing that.
It’s a cheaper action camera. I’ve been using it for my PFD angle. It’s worked pretty well and the image quality is good. Not nearly as many controls as a GoPro though, and I’ve recently (like on this flight) been having issues with it shutting off. GoPro says why it shut off (card full, battery died, overheated), but the Akaso doesn’t say. That’s pretty frustrating. But for an entry level action cam that’s 1/4 the cost of a new GoPro, I think it’s fantastic!
Depends on what you want to do with the airplane. TBM is faster, but smaller and less versatile. The PC12 costs more but can haul a lot more and go into shorter/unimproved runways. But all around, I like the PC12 best!
We have LEDs, so draw is low and we could probably run them all flight for a lot of years before any issues. Planes with incandescent bulbs burn out a lot faster so that’s probably where that procedure started.
Love the multi-views on take-off. The ground camera outside the plane was a neat bonus!
Too bad I don’t have a camera operator on the ground everywhere I go!
Yeah, you’re welcome. That was us.
@@foxaviationservice773 nice camera work, FoxAv.
Best camera work among all aviation channels on youtube. Thanks a lot

Really enjoyed the split screens. Always good to see all around the aircraft. Especially on landings and take off.

@@GrantBaker Im glad that he captured it for you.. getting that angle on the plane is always cool !! Love those kind of takeoffs
ATC at 7:15 gives his impersonation of your inflection when saying your callsign. Hilarious
11:30 I guess the coating could give better speed, I would judge it by fuel savings instead.

Photos and videos are very deceiving. They look the same, but the Pilatus is MUCH bigger than the TBM. It’s limo vs. sports car.

Always good to have you Bernard!
The Pilatus is my favorite for private flying, they can really spoil one if one can afford it. My most enjoyable times are spent in the air.
Yes, it’s an amazing airplane!
Got your IFR clearance pickup as file
Looking forward to seeing you one day back to Manassas Airport

It's expensive! Buy a Diamond DA42 instead
@JavaT6437 the DA42 can’t do nearly what the PC12 does though. It’s a great plane, but doesn’t fit our mission as well as the PC12 does.
Hello Grant. Great Video. My Saratoga is a Bartelt for Annual.
Thanks JP! Hope it’s a smooth annual for you!

pulling up gear while usable runway is still available? perhaps counting on no problems?
When did you put the Five blade on ? After this ceramic coating you may be getting speed of A TBM

Grant needs to auto reply “Lee Fox himself was filming the ramp and take off”
How much difference does the coating make for water sheddding and ice resistance?
Won’t make a whole lot of difference for ice because the leading edges aren’t coated. But water beads up and rolls right off!
Hi Grant, nice video as usual. Does the coating add weight? That is, significant weight?
No not a significant amount. It’s a very thin layer.
Thanks Grant Subscribed to your channel. How did you transition into a Pilatus?

@@GrantBaker Wonderful! Thanks!
Hi Grant! Thanks for your help. Here is the first video of the series! th-cam.com/video/Mq91Rbaxoew/w-d-xo.html
What’s the reason for going below glidepath?
To land on the 1,000’ markers (which I floated past, lol), I go below the vasi to allow time and space for the roundout and flare.
Love Dirks. Just don’t get “drunk on a plane”
4:37 when I noticed I've missed something (yeah it happens to everyone), I stop and carefully review the relevant checklists as the likelihood of me having missed something else just went up.
That’s great advice!
Where’d you get the under armor Polaris polo?!
The service center gave me that when we bought the airplane.
How much was the coating job?
Man the finger on the starter inhibit after fuel is introduced gives me the heeby jeebies
Why’s that Matt?

Right, the only time you would push it is if it doesn’t light off in 10 seconds.
@@GrantBaker yep and the fuel has been motored out (as in fuel cut off)
I see the music at the intro is InAudio but is that an app or name of artist?
It’s a royalty-free subscription website. There’s three artists there I think.

Who makes the flight displays in the cockpit?
Honeywell
@@GrantBaker they look sweet. Also love the fact they do not have that computer screen glare. Must be great for night flights
Yeah they are nice displays! Not much glare at all and work great at night.

You got 2.88gals to the nm. Wow
Actually, it was a lot better than that! Jet fuel weighs 6.75lbs/gal, so we used 96gal. 312nm/96gal=3.25nm/gal
@@GrantBaker I learned something new today, thanks!
You called a back-taxi 18. Did you mean to say back-taxi 36?
Yes, I corrected myself. 😁
TBM VS PC-12 which is better

WTF 1st time here . and thats a hanger 40 seconds in
Why did you turn the pulse lights off after 10,000 ft?
There’s less traffic and I’m well away from the airport environment by that point so no need to keep them running.
@@GrantBaker Does the electrical output has anything to do with it also?
We have LEDs, so draw is low and we could probably run them all flight for a lot of years before any issues. Planes with incandescent bulbs burn out a lot faster so that’s probably where that procedure started.
@@GrantBaker Thank you for sharing. It's appreciated!
28.9 lbs of torque not enough to pull that airplane!
It must mean something else....
😁it’s the oil pressure off a gear in the engine. They opted to leave it in PSI instead of converting to a proper torque unit.
