      Oh they had the time of their lives! We do some 15+ hour road trips to visit my folks, so a 4hr flight isn’t too bad for them. And it helps a lot that the PC12 has a lav available.

    Try Bentley. Nothing that costs between 4 to 5 million can be compared to a suburban.

      And as much as I loved the utility of my Suburban, I would never get aboard a plane compared to one. The wings would probably fall off about V1.

    I used to live just N of the airfield off CR40. I loved living there - with the airport in our back yard, when they'd have the Airshow over the July 4th weekend, having an airshow in my backyard as I was grilling burgers, with an F-18 Hornet doing high G turns over my backyard was kind of cool. We moved south the Spring of 2014, but my wife is originally from outside Shipshe... great vid!

    Turbine suburban, LOL, nice description! But there are a LOT of parents who thank the gods that GM invented the Suburban or they'd have trouble finding a van that could haul their kids around. My parents had the short version, the 4 dr Yukon. They sold it to my uncle who found it SO handy that he drove it until it completely died. I KNOW he poured over 200,000 miles on it. ON top of the over 70,000 my parents put on it before...

    I like your editing, family and flying, trip data, views and video, all excellent. You seem ahead of the plane all the time, so that is great. I notice how often other 'flying video' pilots seem to over control and mentally struggle, especially flying and talking at the same time and you do not, very professional. Enjoyable. Why am I interested? Well this is they year I buy something, candidates are New PC12NGX, Honda Elite 2, TBM 960 or secondhand PA42 Cheyenne 1000. Odd choice, have always been a fan of the Cheyanne, speed with 5 blade props 340 knots, range around 2000 nm. A small toilet, somewhat cheap less than a million, leaving room for updates. But massive uncertainty regarding spares. The Honda brings speed, 420 knots, a toilet, and 1480 nm range, but a small cabin, with few seats, all very attractive but I would soon fill it, all with excellent warranties on all components. Then the PC 12, the only down side is the speed. Slow in the climb, slow in the cruise, in fact under all conditions slow, downside - meaning head winds can bite a huge chunk out of ground speed, as a percentage of performance, adding trip time, yet the cabin is exceptional. So difficult choice. So keep flying and posting, I am learning more about the PC12 here on your channel than anywhere else, cheers, it sure is an exceptional aircraft. However, night flying in bad weather makes me think another engine might be handy, but the PT6 is an exceptional engine, great reliability being the counter argument, so who knows .. I am still undecided.

    • @GrantBaker
      @GrantBaker  10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Thanks! Those are all good choices of planes in my opinion. We operated a Cessna 421C before upgrading to the PC12 and not having to worry as much about parts availability has been a nice relief. That could be an issue with the Cheyenne, although I'm not very familiar with maintenance on that plane, just basing that off it's age. Good luck with the search!

    • @Sandhoeflyerhome
      @Sandhoeflyerhome 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I guess, speed(250 knots in the climb !(440 Cruise) 2000 range' cabin size, put all that together and what do you get ??? PC 24 !! Costs a fortune, need a few second hand ones to appear first. You never know ?? @@GrantBaker

    • @GrantBaker
      @GrantBaker  ปีที่แล้ว

      The localizer gives us horizontal course guidance for landing during poor visibility. Sometimes we use it to help make sure we are lining up with the correct runway. The morse code is so that we know whether it's working and making sure we have the correct frequency tuned in.

    question, does the ng have auto wind correction while taxing or you had to set the autopilot/ yaw damper to correct it

    • @GrantBaker
      @GrantBaker  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      No the autopilot won’t help you on the ground. If you turned it on, it would actually hinder you because it would resist your rudder pedal inputs, which is how you steer on the ground.

    • @aceflywings
      @aceflywings ปีที่แล้ว

      @@GrantBaker thank you for responding, just was wondering why the pilatus yoke was moving during the rudder inputs. i know it is wind correcting but is the rudder and yoke systems connected that it does automatic wind correcting when you taxi?

    • @GrantBaker
      @GrantBaker  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @aceflywings6632 ah, yes that’s for in flight. There is an elastic connection between the rudder and aileron to help keep the rudder coordinated in turns. On the ground it doesn’t really help with anything other than I guess it keeps the ailerons from flopping around in wind.

      An AWOS can only see up to 12,000’ AGL, so “clear” really means clear below 12,000’. It could be a solid overcast at 15,000 and the awos would still report clear.

    Why are you waiting for 1,000' for flaps? Why are you waiting for 3,000' for the inertial sep?

    • @GrantBaker
      @GrantBaker  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I have been waiting for 1,000’ to keep me closer to the airport in the event of engine failure. However, I was talking with a training provider down at the POPA convention who said he’s seen that it works out better to go flaps up at 100KIAS and then extend the flaps to 15 in the turn back. I’ll have to try both scenarios at my recurrent next month. Inertial Separator at 3,000’ is for bird strike protection.

    • @grantbartow13
      @grantbartow13 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@GrantBaker Right on. I’ve always done: positive rate, out of usable, gear up, inertial closed (if not going into precipitation), yaw damp on, lights
      400’: clear any obstacles, 100 KTS plus 10 (I like a buffer) - flaps up.
      I want the speed coming in asap so I can trade it for glide getting back to the airport. Should be past 120 plus KTS by the 1,000 foot requirement to turn back putting me in a perfect place to do so.

    • @GrantBaker
      @GrantBaker  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey maybe so! Regarding the inertial separator, I don’t remember ever hitting 780°C before 3,000’, but I’m almost always flying out of lower elevation airports (under 2000’MSL), and rarely see over 100° temps. Higher elevation and high temps would probably make you want to close it earlier, especially in the mountains.

    Well a 5million dollar suburban. You are 8 people so that takes a certain size but there is huge potential in light car seat config twin jets, like a twin jet version of an SR22 or Lancair 4. Jet engines for an 800kg MTOW plane can be very small thus inexpensive to mass produce so you could easily imagine such a plane in the 300k$ range. And similarly less expensive to operate. It would be a revolution in aviation. A PC12 costs private jet money yet only has one engine and a front noise maker. Can't even fly it over water so it's quite a high price. 300k for family private jet freedom is a very different prospect. You could even imagine a lavatory in it, just plumbingless one time use inserts and wet wipes. Very civilized, even transatlantic capable.

    • @GrantBaker
      @GrantBaker  ปีที่แล้ว

      I think you’re being a bit too optimistic about things. $300k won’t get you an SR22, which is over $1M even if it’s a couple years old. Cirrus does have a jet, the SF50 Vision Jet. It’s just a single engine and costs over $3 million. Compared to the PC12, it is about 20kts faster, carries half what the 12 does, has less range, is a bit more expensive to operate, and doesn’t have a lav like the PC12 does.
