I love tradescantia. Down south several can be grown permanently outdoors. Others are completely indoor plants and enjoy a vacation outdoors in the summer. Again, I want to commend you for your choice of material and the quality of the information on plant maintenance and culture. Thank you!
Hi Summer, this one is such a fighter, it grows everywhere in my backyard on its own (I live in central Italy), the one I have is probably the most common one, with thinner leaves, not fuzzy, the flowers are also very pretty, tiny pink ones. It is probably one of the most low maintenance survivor ones!
New subscriber here, I have my garden full with Tradescantia, i planted a few ones years ago because I fell in love with the purple of their leaves and their tiny flowers, and then they took over all the available space LOL I'm not complaining, I love them! Hugs from Sonora, Mexico.
The purple wandering jew was my first ever gifted plant (given to me). It was before I appreciated the gift and knew how to care for any plants whatsoever. Regrettably, I left it outdoors in the Texas heat all summer without watering and killed it. Now here I am years later, about to purchase my own again, armed with a green thumb this time around, and I already feel a special attachment to it.
I love this plant, it propagates so easily, if you don’t give it enough sunlight it can reverse to a deep green, but it can go back to purple with enough light.
In Buenos Aires city, where the weather is around 38°C during summer but about zero during winter, is very common to see the tradescantia growing around the base of the trees in the streets. There, they grow bushy, without almost any care, just with rain water and wind and lot of sun. Very beautifult!
Mine grows in the garden. I've put it up high as they say dogs can be allergic to it. These 365 days are making realise how time flies. Love the videos nevertheless.
Bought two planters of these _YEARS_ ago and now I’m growing them in SEVERAL large pots everywhere! lol Every time some snap off, I just stick’em in a pot, and they grow! Gave some to neighbors and family, so easy to care for. They do well in the hot/dry climate I live in, wilt in very cold seasons but come back by spring. (so probably best to cover, or bring them in). They grow pretty, little, pink flowers in spring and enjoy moderate sunlight. 🌞
Omg. I saw one of these in a greenhouse and didn’t know what it was until now, neon pink, bushy, looked fake and hanging in a basket, I am literally gonna call and see if it’s there. So excited . Thank u
This species is a great indicator for light intensity. It's often used by seasonal landscapers - Outdoors it hardly rambles at all, forming nice purple mounds with contrasting flowers. Compare that to its habit on your sunniest windowsill. There the internodes would be at least an inch long, showing how much that short move indoors reduces the strength of sunlight!
Just potted my own cutting about an hour ago, had it rooting in water for about two weeks after I found it knocked off a large plant in a garden centre. Mines a really stunning one, don't know the exact cultivar but she's a beautiful deep iridescent purple with silver stripes
There's a nice variegated cultivar available online. Pale stripes run thru the leaves - cream-gold and pink, depending on light intensity. Mine is in a NNW facing window and now that the summer sun is coming in at day's end the stripes are turning a deeper pink color. They had a more yellowish cast during winter.
Have one of theese with a bit thinner leave form. Before I got more into plants I was not taking good care of it. It was without soil and I would over or underwater it. The roots looked not very healthy after this treatment. But now it has soil finally, because I am more dedicated to be a good plantmom:) so it’s quite a robust plant in my exspierence :)
i have one and love it! it lives on top of s shelf in my bright kitchen without direct light... it grows it’s branches hanging 6 feet down looking beautiful, when it pools on the tile floor i break it off and replant the pieces. Often forget to water it, then it sheds it’s dried leaves and gets a little leggy. but it keeps going- tough plant !
Thanks so much for this informative video! My boyfriend has left his purple to grow, and now is long and outta control! I will be able to cut it back and propagate. Wish I could show you what it looks like now...🙄
hi Summer, thanks for the video, I love the purple leaves, but for me I don't like when the plants get too stemy, but then I do love a plant that can take full direct sunlight.
You can pinch off the lower leaves to get a bushier growth. They don’t like their leaves touched either so that’s why it’s sensitive. You will notice the hair will disappear after handling and then come back afterwards. The hair is there to protect them from pests like us haha. Gorgeous isn’t she :)
please make a video about caudex plant care. there are a lot of people buying them (including myself) because of their unique leaves and cute bulbs! 😊 thank you!
I have the Tradescantia Tri Color and love the colors. The cuttings I take and root are reverting back to green. How do I prevent that? Will a reverted plant ever grow the beautiful variegated leaves again?
If you don't like a plant that trails all over the place and that you'll be giving a haircut every month or so don't get this plant! You'll grow to hate it and it'll just feed off your hate and flourish 😂 I tell mine all the time "why can't you be more like your cousin brown spiderwort" 🙈🌱
Peter Cardona This made me laugh 😂 I agree about it trailing everywhere and being super resilient, but you gotta love the little pink flowers in springtime. 🌸 ☺️
The one we here in gardens are a little bit different, the leaves are longer and harder and the color is something between maroon/deep purple/burgundy (difficult to describe the color)
I love purple! So impulsively I got this not knowing much other than it looked different from the zebrina wandering jew. (I usually research first, but sadly both phobe battery and signal were low so I couldn’t look it up.) It’s cute and it looks tough, but I freaked out when I attempted to wipe off dust from the leaves cuz it would suddenly just snap! I thought maybe it was neglected and so a bit more frail than it should be, but now I keep hearing they’re really fragile. Any way to make it grow tougher?
Wandering Jew .... but I like the way you say it " wondering" better hehe 💕 its wandering because in the bible the Jews travelled through the desert, these plants could wander for miles if given the chance and the right soil 😊
@@fireflyintheroom very true! 🥂 p.s if you start to do videos I would love to watch and sub... always looking for more plant friends to watch and envy over their beautiful plants! Good luck, hope to be watching g your videos very soon xx
I have this one. It's leaves are too brittle. If I touch it accidentally immediately the leaves start to fall off. 😯 Hey Summer why do you look to your left while talking. Was there someone standing there and causing some distraction?
One of mine has black bugs that are making a web and killing the plant. Could I safely use a plant disinfectant on it? Or is there a better/safer way to get rid of them? I'm worried about using the disinfectant because I dont want to burn the little hairs on the leaves.
That Tradescantia species didn't gave me something that I usually call 'Houseplant-headache' which basically a headache that happens whenever I see common houseplants

This 365 series is honestly my favorite part of my day! I look forward to seeing each and every one!
Well who wouldn't love a purple plant! I know whenever I get a chance and the plant is purple I buy it, lol. Loving this series, thanks again Summer.

I'm rooting right now in my kitchen, I hope it rooted very well and can bring more color to my room.

As a British watcher we call it the inch plant mines growing like a weed at home in several pots and in my office.
Is it also known as a wondering jew? I love these! Already have 3 spiecies in my collection! Soon planing on doing video about them too! 🌿

I truly love your videos, but on this one you didnt tell anything about care. One sentence about light, nothing about water, air, soil etc. A pity!
