So I’ve been writing you tips on notes on my iPad so that I have them and I already have learnt so much from you to help for revision and just general school life. Eve, my uncle studied at Oxford university. He sadly is no longer around and died in his 80s. Have you ever wanted to compare what Oxford was like in the days when he was there to what is it like now? There were no computers so all essays were written by hand or I presume on a typewriter and you could not go back and correct anything. He studied Maths and Physics.
A tip for reading Don Quixote: read some background to the book (especially the copyright issue and the 'fanfic' situation that happened at the time - it's epic) and the list of main themes. It is easier to get through something like that if you are focused on looking out how the themes work out rather than just trying to figure out the book by yourself. The book is a bit of a pain but it is of massive value to literature and history of authorship. And I am assuming for the history of translation if you are reading it :)

E U P H O R I A hey so ive just finished y13 and i wanna say take comfort in the fact that everyone is in the exact same boat. i know how overwhelming y13 can feel with alevels and now ucas piled on top as well as any personal problems or part time work u might have. first and foremost keeping up y12 content won’t be as awful as ur expecting- im not too sure what subjects u are doing but in the maths and sciences there is a fair amount of overlap more for physical sciences than biology (i did bio chem maths and an epq). i know for subjects like history politics etc there is a wide range of topics. biology for me was my hardest subject just because of the sheer volume of content and not always gripping to my new teachers style which applies to many humanities and essay subjects and my advice for that its doing little and often. i at the start of y13 prioritised ucas stuff more so i had some catch up work but the main thing is use ur frees. think about it, ur clearly a dedicated student and uve made ur revision resources through y12 so it’s just reviewing them once in a while and doing some practice. you’ll be surprised how much u remember ☺️ use ur time effectively and make ur y13 revision resources as you go along in frees and time after school. you really don’t need to do 12 hrs of work every day. its about the quality of work and if u do it efficiently and effectively. do what works for u and make sure ur doing practice questions even if its old spec- sciences it will apply more and for essay based subjects adapt old questions to make them new spec style. if u are tired don’t overwork yourself and honestly good luck! enjoy ur time as its the last year in school ☺️ you got this

Isabelle Winter hiya! Know I’m not Eve but I changed my degree from Spanish to Linguistics recently and am loving it! Depends on what you enjoy about languages. If you’re interested in how languages work and their history, Linguistics might suit better but if you want to become fluent in a language and you’re interested in the culture/literature of a country that speaks that language then you’ll enjoy a language more.

Issie it was a combination of things really, I initially took Linguistics as an optional add-on class but later I found that it appealed to me a lot more. The Spanish course my uni teaches is really literature-heavy in the last two years and it was only the Spanish language part of the course that interested me so I’d recommend doing research into what the Spanish course will involve in the uni you’re looking at to make sure it’ll interest you! The Honours courses for Linguistics interested me a lot more as well (Language evolution, language acquisition and bilingualism especially) but Linguistics can also be quite science-y so be prepared for that!
