    Fun fact: the drug dealer holding Riggs hostage that's egged on to shoot him is Anthony Kiedis' (Red Hot Chili Peppers singer) dad in real life.

    This is thr best action movie of the 1980s. Die Hard was awesomr, 48 hours, Predator, so many great action films came out. But the writing and characters shine bright. Mel Gibson is awesome

    I thought ALL the Lethal Weapon movies were great, I was nervous for the fourth one because I figured ONE of them had to be bad at some point, but they all just ruled and I even found myself getting a little teared up when the credits rolled at the end of the fourth one :-) Really nice review, bro...don't worry, no architecture jokes here ;-D

    Gibson may be a bit nutty but hell if isn't one hell of an actor when he wants to be also I think the best example of the buddy cop movie and a better done introduction of the characters is Tango and Cash which also shows off that Sylvester Stallone is also a damn fine actor when he needs to be.

    • @deusdeaconReviews
      @deusdeaconReviews  8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      +michaelkeha I would agree he's a good actor, but personally I was very lenient on the guy, "A bit nutty" doesn't really take into account his racist, anti-semtitic, and homophobic views, not to mention his domestic violence charges.

    Why is it that older cop movies have a scene with a suicide jumper. This and Dirty Harry both have a similar scene. Is it some sort of trope?

    +Deusdaecon , I kind of felt like you were busting on the movie for the "Show, Don't Tell" aspect of the character development. (yes, i could be wrong) But isn't that a good thing?
    This movie did come out in 1987 and even though it's smack dab in the middle of the Action Hero Genre BS of the time you know.
    Showing the differences in their life styles IS in a way, showing how they are different as people, and how they interpret the law, and how they handle things on different spectrums of extremes due to their personalities being what they are (which is Shown by who they live and react differently to things around them).
    True, it could be a bit much- but isn't it better than 50+ lines of unneeded dialog that is often used in today's movies for padding?
    Just asking.

    • @deusdeaconReviews
      @deusdeaconReviews  9 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      +NUMBER SIX You are correct that "Show don't tell" is a good thing I wasn't really complaining about that aspect, iIs more the execution of "hey, look how crazy different these guys are, Wouldn't it be a wild ride if they teamed up ?" the film focused on.

    Gibson was clearly a manic-depressive and anyone who has experienced either unipolar depression of a serious kind (or both the extreme depressive and manic states) will realise why a lot of Gibson's trouble occurred. Anyone who hasn't experienced that level of the illness cannot even guess what the realities of it are. I survived 35 years of unipolor depression and I do mean that I did almost nothing in those 35 years except literally survive it. Almost all systems in the body get impacted and it's like being a zombie with blood poisoning. You don't have the physical or mental resources to deal with the disease (the emotions are completely deadened) and the symptoms and consequences just compound over time. People turn to alcohol or drugs to try to get the brain to start functioning again (or at least not to just continue in a toxic, deadened state for up to 2 weeks at a time), so they can feel more than a near corpse. I'm not condoning Gibson's ultra-conservative viewpoints, but I do believe that those viewpoints of his can be both a source of false-security given his disease and also worsened by the extremes of the depths and manic highs so that he has reduced self-awareness. I'm not kidding. Everyday depression is not like clinical depression and clinical depression is not the same as the full-blown physical disease form of depression.

    Your writing and editing deserves more views although you quibble on nonsense a little more than necessary. This movie is fantastic and defined the buddy cop genre. It's not perfect but you were a bit too harsh. The main characters were super unique and interesting for the time and regardless of what you think about Gibsons politics (which I don't agree with) he's still a great actor. I'm watching him be another person, not Mel Gibson. You did a good job here, just chill out like a couple degrees.

      Fair enough, but I felt the implication was there, came across as a weird comparison to me. Definately an arguement to be made that Die Hard was Lethal Weaponing it up with it being adaption of a book with a different sensibility (John McClane is an old man in the book). Like I said I enjoyed the review and been going through your back catalogue. On a side side note with with your HP Lovecraft series are you planing on covering the Unnamable films? They are a bit shite but a guilty pleasure of mine, I like the protrayal of Randolph Carter

      @@laurarules3642 Radical anything is generally a bad idea. You start permitting generally agreed upon bad things to happen, or flip back around to become the thing you were fighting against; You see both sides of that within Feminism where on one you have the TERFs and on the other you have Gender Abolitionists. Crazy shit all around; especially once you start mixing in post-irony shit.
