The new For Honor update is looking really good
Funny enough, if you watch the Alpha footage of For Honor from wayyy back when, it actually looks strikingly similar to this. I love the game enough to have gone Top 200 for a bit, but I think I would've loved that even more. You should look it up if you haven't seen it
@@paynesyler6428 I miss the old cinematics, I wish it could have the better level of smoothness it had now with the vibe it had once.

The collective crowd groan really sold it too
That's defo some broken ribs
That blow at 1:41 WAS BRUTAL, I could practically feel his hip just bruising from that blow.
God I remember watching these guys that day. I'm a HEMA geek so it was so cool to see a more realistic, aggressive fight from guys wearing real deal armor. So awesome.
The strikes they make to the spine and to the back of the head are a little alarming as someone who also does HEMA.
I use to not like watching sports until this one came around
With the kinda padded hema armour, are you guys allowed to hit full force with the weapons like these guys do?
@Davek_89666 I will say Ive seen other schools in longsword do strikes that appear to not be pulled at all. Felt one on me when attending a retreat and it wasnt too pleasant. For my school we do pull our strikes out of safety for our sparring buddies but it also depends on the kit you have.
Pulling strikes is also a good idea for just better control in general though.
@@davek89666yes, but if you do, you are not a good fencer
Perfect demonstration of why war hammers were a thing
Bonk
Why are they not using them here then? lol
@@KillYour_TV Because they don't want to die lmao
@@KillYour_TV Even sharp or simply metal swords would hurt here like a lot, although it wouldnt pierce through the steel armor, theres a chance it could find a way in few places where armor is not, which could result in very bloody scene. And using hammers... well, that wouldnt end up either, same result, but less blood I'd guess.
@@SpookyRumi So they wanna play knights, but only 20 %.
This is beyond epic! Both the fighting and the camera work and video quality!
Why is no one mentioning the fight at 0:47? Dude had great technique and recovery, even disarming the man at the end with the beard of the axe

Despite there having no blood being sprayed all over, this seems to be more brutal than scenes from medieval movies
You couldn't cut plate armor. That's why blunt weapons were invented to dent the plate and cave in people's skulls.
@@ArchlordZer0 my point was metal clashing combat is much cooler and brutal than unrealistic movie battles where people can stab and slash through armor like butter
@mangopie7602 I like how this was probably how the warfare went, if you got tired, or fell down, someone would just stab your neck. Not to mention if you drowned in the mud from being trampled by everyone in plate armor.
One of the best buhurt fights I've ever seen.
Hats off to all of them.
As a St. Louisian I am so proud of the people out there at the Ren Faire, love medieval history and they always do a great job!
These fights are far more cooler and these than movie fights. I believe this does a better job of showing how brutal and resourceful warriors are, as they're not just striking with weapons, they're making use of their shields and even their bare hands. (Apologies, I am not well versed in medieval combat and shouldn't of made the comparison. I was just intrigued by the way they fight, I haven't seen any movie or video game utilise actions like that)
its also not how trained armored folk really fought. these arent people trained like people who could afford armor in the past. real, trained fights are even better.
It is very interesting to see the headlocks.
You’re talking about actors who are paid to only act. These guys beat the shxt out of each other because they want to win
its quite unrealistic to be honest, wressling was part of fighing but not like this.
figing was allways roupe fighting, wresseling sombody to the ground has a high chance of getting hit very hard in the head with a polearm from his comerads.
@@giftzwerg7345 Indeed. Warfare was always a group effort especially on the battlefield. A lone warrior is a dead warrior.
1:19 this block and attack was dope as shit
I think it takes a lot of strength and stamina to do that. Props to the boys. 💪💯 and the camerawork is elegant.💯
The stamina requirement is huge. At practice we strike a target nonstop for a specific amount of time and just 60 seconds is rough. When you put on padding and armor then it gets exponentially harder. Strength is needed to ensure you can still hit hard and fast even with the extra weight. The camera work is just me trying to get at an angle where fighters are facing each other (they move around a lot, so one fighter will block the view of the other unless I constantly move with them)
if you only know, i know a few in the swedish BoTN team, and damn, they are tired.
I was wondering if maybe they should do more strength training. The weight of the Armour is making them top heavy and in reality they really need bigger leg muscles. Just seemed like some would get knocked down more easier then others. That one huge dude seemed to have a major advantage. His size powers that Armour like that. Don't skip leg day.

Thats about what I imagine most knight vs knight fights looked like. Lots of kicking and grappling then someone pulls out a puncture dagger.
According to our captain, they focused on getting opponents down while someone else, typically with a spear, would finish them off
@@timothyhines6220 that’s so cool!! Do you have any videos or books that you suggest that talks about this? This sounds like great character material and I wanna learn more about it
@@frenchfries1819 My understanding is that our former captain was in the Free Company of the White Stag. They would explain medieval tactics and provide demonstrations (how pirates would board a ship, how people would fight with spear/sword/dagger/axe/polearm/mace/bow, how a phalanx works, etc). I get all of my info from them. They disbanded last year and formed a new group called the Band of Iron Lions. You can contact them on their FB page to find out where they source their info: facebook.com/BandOfIronLions
@@timothyhines6220 I see, thanks a ton!!
@@frenchfries1819 Hi, you can search for the channel Pursuing the Knightly Arts. It's a small channel but have a ton of documentation about actual knight fighting. They show videos of grappling techniques from historical treatise and do duels with it! They also include thrusts strikes. (which is not a thing in the type of combat shown in this video)
this is better than any movie sword fight
Ive seen a bunch of full steel combat vids watching the duels and all out brawls and just wanted to say that 2:01 is kinda just the perfect example of the sportsmanship/entertainment value the sport has lmao. Went from *"Aw you guys SUCK"* to "oh ive been (?)"
Being a SCAdian I would be interested in how the rules are handled for matches. 16 gauge steel min. I assume? I do appreciate what appears to be a Sumo kind of respect to being taken off your feet. I have many questions :)
The rules differ depending on the host of the event (in this case it was the St Louis Legion of Honor). I was setting up camera gear, so I missed the meeting to go over what was and was not allowed. I expect they went with no gap shots, no neck shots, and no strikes to the back of the knee. Three points of contact with the ground count as a down. It was a demonstration event rather than a competitive event, so I don't think they had any special regulations on armor and weapons (some places will check the weight/dimensions of weapons and the historical accuracy of gear)
What didst thou say about mine mother sir?. BRAWL IN THE CASTLE!
Me getting camera locked against bandits in Kingdom Come:
Whats the point of using those axes and swords if the only way to defeat your opponet is to knock them on the ground
The weapons hurt. It's like being beaten with a baseball bat. When they take off the armor you can see the bruises and sometimes we get broken bones. I mostly used grappling and tackling clips for this video because they're quick and impactful. Someone going down due to pain submission isn't as fun (they just raise their hand and slowly crumble to the ground)
And the winner of the second bout is, Henry of Skalitz!
I cannot tell what era of armour this is trying to emulate.... The overall look somewhat looks like it is re-enacting late 14thC plate but there is someone in late 15thC German Gothic Pauldrons and all the helmets are non historic, so called Grython helms
This is a demonstration, so I don't think they're enforcing authenticity rules like they would at an official tournament. Usually they would require the kit to match a specific period/location. When they go to tournaments they need to prove their gear is based on an actual historic design
now this.... this is fucking awesome.
I wish these fights were everywhere lol I would rather pay for this than a football game
The heavy armour + battle axe build is quite op. The falchion + shield build is no match for it lol
But Falchion shield guy was 2VXing all those scrubs , they needed to Zerg him to take him down 😅
@@pandahsykes602 true true, maybe a well learned falchion main is even more dangerous
dude in black would have been a monster in battle back in the day lol
Is there a rule that if i hit u a vitale spot unarmored with the weapon u stop? If not It makes no sense. I mean weapon are obv not sharpened so if im able to penetrate Ur armor with a Blade and hit, for example, armpit or neck does the fight stop and i win?
It depends on what rules are in use. We typically prohibit strikes where there is no armor and shots to the neck or the back of the knees. In the last tournament I went to they said gap shots were allowed, but frowned upon. I've heard they are encouraged at other events. The ref might sit someone if they break the rules of an event, but it's not very common. If you're dueling then you win by points and essentially everything else is based on downs (three points of contact with the ground equal a down)
@@timothyhines6220 thanks for the explanation that answer many other question i had, but the question Is: if i strike in a way that in a real duel can be considered lethal, do the Referee stop the fight? Let me know, thank you anyway!!
@@grinofficial2727 The duels are based on the number of valid strikes (metal edge with sufficient force) rather than where they land. A strike that would be considered lethal would likely have the ref stop the fight and disqualify the fighter depending on the rules. I saw a duel where one opponent used a thrusting attack, an illegal move, and the ref ended the fight immediately
We avoid neck shots because they are extremely dangerous. The ref will generally yell at you if you're getting close to landing one and they will ideally stop the fight if you do
@@timothyhines6220 thank u, u were so kind in explaining me!
@@grinofficial2727 Hi, you should check out Pursuing the Knightly Arts and Harnischfechten fights. It's a category based on historical treatise that actually fight by attacking the ennemy gaps in the armor. They do it in a more "relaxed" way than here to avoid stupid injuries.
Harnischfechten is very impressive because fighters uses their armor to parry strikes and use advanced armored grappling techniques to take their opponents down
The first axe kick 😮😂
2:00 when he realised they were gonna gang up on him “oh you guys SUCK!”
I saw my first fight not long ago. Giant hulking men being thrown to the ground, falling, slipping, flipping, crashing and flying over hay bales with sword or axe in hand. It was intense.
I love the imagery of your description, it captures the chaos perfectly!
Красивая нарезка!!
feel like the weapons are almost decorative, every fight seems to devolve (evolve?) into judo throws.
Grappling is usually more effective than striking when trying to get a takedown. Strikes are painful and can break bones, but many fighters will just endure the pain
How thick is that armor? And is it hardened?
It depends on the person and if they will use it in a tournament setting. This page has the requirements for armor and weapons: hmbia.info/rules-and-regulations/
It looks much brutal than in the movies with cardboard armor
The injuries are serious. We've had people break their ribs, hands, back, etc. Torn ACL and meniscus are pretty common due to wearing the heavy armor. Kyle had an axe go through his helmet and gash open his forehead once. He has a cool scar now
@@timothyhines6220 a True Battle Scar
To think that back in the day this is what people wear as armors i can already tell how much those people train if they actually fight with this armor
This my friends, is why the pole axe and pole hammer were invented, to crush armor like this.
Right. I think swords were more for killing unarmored people lol.
@@assassinmanx6128 To be fair, these _are_ demonstrations for sport that use dulled weapons. Longswords and greatswords could be used against plate armor by means of sharp thrusting motions or weighty cleaves (this being specifically for the greatswords). There were also openings in armor -- the neck, elbows, knees, etc. -- that could be hit with swords. A few good hits with a sharpened, well-tempered blade was still very capable of killing an armored opponent.
this is why duels of fully armored fighters often devolved into wrestling
the "oh good god " got me
is there an advantage if you fight with a "dull" sword? Axes and hammers i can see the adgvantage, but can you do the same damage with a sword?
The standard sword is not a great choice for melees. It's ideal for duels where you want to strike for points, but the force of impact is spread out across the blade, so it deals less damage than a weapon with a point. A greatsword can deal good damage due to its weight, but it will tire you out. Most fighters use a falchion, where there is a point on the blade to focus the impact. It has the advantage over axes and polearms in that your opponent cannot grab the blade (they could grab the handle of an axe and make it essentially useless)
@@timothyhines6220 thx for answering!
I wonder if these guys had martial arts training. Some of the sweeping techniques seem to come from Muay Thai which is really cool and effective. I would love to try this myself
I honestly don't know if Curtis, Kaylee, Zolo, Zach, Sean, Ashley, Adam, Dan, or Joe had any martial arts training at the time (I would guess Adam might). We have since starting training various martial arts techniques (mainly throws) at the dojo where we train. People with existing martial arts knowledge tend to do very well in this sport, so you should definitely try it out :D
Now that's what I'm talking about.
Nice gameplay
This goes to show how effective armor would be and how your best bet would be to pin them somewhat and then stabbing under the arm or in the neck or if you didn’t have a closed helmet right in the face. Also using your shield as a blunt force weapon also highly effective
the problem is , one hit and you're out there's no wrestling after a hit xd,this is not that practical but it gives experience as to what to expect in a sword fight, usually the one who cuts first wins or both go down mean they both cut or stab each other the same time, not another choice.
@@Shron21 1 hit ? what do you mean in buhurt your in till you make 3 points of contact or more on the ground.
I’m sure there’s a lot of rules and technique, but I feel like I could really fuck someone up in this. I played football for years with full gear and serious aggression. Looks like fun! 🤘🏼😆
that was fun to watch
the coolest form of larping
Lol these full contact fights are fun to watch but I see a lot of people in the comments saying how it's realistic... this is by no means a realistic representation of medieval warfare. There's no skill at arms, its just blind swinging, hugging, and pushing people over. The armour used by these guys (in battle of the nations style) is also frequently made of titanium instead of steel, and the padding is packed right out in order to soften what looks like really painful blows, but in reality aren't. The person who said it's armoured wrestling is spot on.
These wrestlers should discard their useless weapons and armor.
So cool :)
