► More than 100,000 Royal Mail workers have gone on strike after a row over pay.
It is the first of a four-day strike with further industrial action planned for 31 August as well as 8 and 9 September. They're demanding a rise that comes a little closer to the current rate of inflation.

Maybe some of the 400 million pounds given away to shareholders over the pandemic could have instead been invested in making the business more efficient and rewarding their essential workers for risking their health and their lives to keep the business running? But nooooo, all profits must be given to the rich when times are good, all losses must be absorbed by the workers when times are hard. That’s just how a modernised company works in Tory Britain

workers in rm are not well paid, but most people are poorly paid these days. also postmen are hardly skilled workers. a robot can do the job and soon will if this 80's style walkout continues. the bosses will never take a cut, and already underbidded you so after they 'give in' and you think you won, the new figure is still well under the budget. all strikes do is hurt the service users who rely on rm to operate businesses and also private users who desperately need a car part so they can get to work, people stuck without a bankcard, children without birthday presents......... yes rm should be a nationalised industry with no shareholders and a level payscale designed to provide a service for citizens, not turn a profit. BUT screw you guys for taking your angst out on end users instead of targeting the top bosses personally. pure cowards

There are also many examples of ridiculous management, and senior decisions that cost huge amounts of money that could be used to fund a decent pay rise. 1 example is at Cambridge 4
bikes with vans attached arrived, as soon as posties saw them they knew they would not work.
4 senior employees turned up and had some publicity photos, stayed a night in a hotel. (not a cheap one) Came to the depot spoke to a couple of prepared stooges and announced this is the future.
After a few trials, they were discarded and now sit rotting in Cambridge car park. Total cost well in excess of 50k.

in the town of your customer and say delivered. I?n the warehouse, they damage your inventory. I had to put everything in bags to go to the warehouse.
Amazon let you sell used. You can have excellent customer rating, etc....then they say you have counterfeit items listed or you're not approved.
Then they make sending cases into warehouses complicated....then make just listing items complicated.
Late 2020, they were stopping us sending used items in for sale. Oh! And they make it almost impossible to search for your items even if you put the title and keywords.

These people should count themselves lucky to have a full time and secure job!! Royal Mail don't employ people on full time contracts any longer. You start out with usually a 24 hour contract, they'll pay overtime as and when required but your basic hours remain the same. Hence holiday pay and sick pay are based on a 24 hour week.
As full timers leave, they are replaced by part timers, this means the remaining workers are further hammered each day while the business saves money.
Sometimes it's best to have an understanding before posting uninformed comments.
Out of interest, would you accept a real term pay cut, later starts and finishes and compulsory Sunday working?

Royal mail don't need to strike. There are lots of people in the UK that paid less than the royal mail and they manage. The royal mail staff don't use food banks as they get very well paid and have excellent conditions that come with the job. Why don't they do what most people in the UK do and get a second job. I know this as I have worked with the royal mail in the past. The royal mail are are disgrace

What a joke! Useless to the point of being unfit for purpose, it's incredible that they're striking for more cash. Don't they make enough from all the mail and parcels they, er...'lose' every day?

I don’t support your strike. They consistently mail that’s not meant for me. I am also on there no junk Mail list yet I get junk mail that fills up my bin. No it’s not like they do a good job anymore. Plenty other companys do a much better job at least when it comes to parcels maybe Royal Mail should lose its Monopoly on Mail then we might start getting better services as it stands now Royal Mail are really bad.
