The writing tools mentioned in this video are :
#1 Soapstone pencil
#2 Sharpie
#3 Paint steel-marker pen
#4 Wax pencil
#5 "Red-Riter" welder pencil
#6 "Silver Streak" welder pencil
:) :)
Great tips, thanks for posting...
Thank you.
Well done, I've been welding for 35 years and the closest thing I have used to the welder pencil is a "china marker", unfortunately the china markers are a bit fragile and can be frustrating to use some days.
Btw, the Presto makes a very fine line - about 2mm wide. Not sure how fluid is in them , but they last a long time. Markal Pro is also excellent and has different colors of refills, not cheap but it is a welding specific marking tool.
Never knew these pencils existed. Always just used a marker. Thank you for the video. I will get some as soon as possible.
thanks for the good video i mostly use a red sharpie seems to work well on steel
@stillbashingmetal Told you it was on the list..
It may take a while but I try to keep you guys informed...
Hi, Kevin. I asked you about these things a short while back, remember? Thanks for the video!
Thanks guys! When I am using my plasma cutter, I usually go with the Sharpie and I also turn on a work light angled at my target from the side. Seems like that kinda helps these old eyes...
great tip
@robotmotor Good for you my friend!!
More Practice!!!
very cool
try Laco markel there shop is in elk grove village il used to work there great markers try them out
I'm surprised you didn't mention the retractable carbide-tipped "pens". They are used to scratch a very thin and visible line into the material. Very handy!
Love your vids, by the way! Keep it up!
Thank you Kevin.
You are welcome!
Thanks for stopping by.
Try the Presto brand correction pens. They are a paint type, mark on almost anything and do not wipe off. I have them in the tool box n all over the shop...
Thanks, will look for them.
White out marks metal good and will not burn off with a torch. Got that off of Chris Taylor welding
Great tip!! Thank you for watching and posting.
@mjmerie Didn't even think of them!!
Thanks for the tip..
Yes, I discovered silver streak at my local Menards home improvement. I will look for the red write ones for bright metals like aluminum and stainless. That would be great for jigsaw cutting 16 gauge aluminum.
I will have to get some more for myself pretty soon. Really use the heck out of them.
Thanks ... I struggle to follow black sharpie on dark steel ... was looking for something better.
Get rid of the mill scale and that will help alot.
Or try a different color.
@kevincaronsculpture Do you have suggestions for a marking device for stainless steel that you could weld over the top of without contaminating the weld?
A scribe would work great if your metal is clean and smooth. Or a red steel marking pencil will work as well.
why didnt you zoom into the lines?
Because he was not holding the camera.
@@TOMVUTHEPIMP ugh; fine... why didnt you have *the cameraman* zoom in on the lines?
Thank you
Thanks for watching and posting.
Hey Kevin, do you know of any tool that allows you to draw a circle around a pipe? I bend a lot of pipe and I need to mark all the way around. I do have some of the half circle cuff things you can clamp on a pipe and then mark, but you have to turn it around the pipe to make a continuous line, and then pull them back off the pipe and move to next location. Lately I've started using a pipe cutter and just lightly scoring the pipe so I can see my measurements all the way around. I was wondering if you've ever seen a tool that might look like a pipe cutter, but have a marking pen where the cutting wheel goes. Would make drawing your lines much easier and faster.
I use a 3 inch wide by 21 inch long belt sander belt. It broke when I was using it on the sander but it makes a great marking tool. Just line up the edges and you are good to go.
@@KevincaronSculpture There are also pipefitters coils that are made for this.
Been using fastcap long reach markers at work although the past year we would order 20 markers and one would work and the rest were all dried up.
Hate when that happens!
cool
👍🏻
can i mark with these red and silver pencils on clad aluminum? do they damage the clad?
Red is for aluminum, silver for steel. No damage that I can find.
@@KevincaronSculpture Thanks for the quick response. In any case, I will try to look for information from the manufacturer. In my work, the preservation of the clad layer is very important
I’ve never heard Jordan Peterson address a question so directly before.
Not a single mention of the intrinsic irreconcilability of Jungian archetypes and dialectical materialism.
?!?!?!?!?
Dude. You win the comments. 😂😂😂
I like turtles
any pencil that produces a visible line when welding?
The red one in this video worked okay on steel and aluminum. The silver not so much. Still think a scribe is the best for making a good make.
For me the best way is to take a hss drill bit sharpen it and use it as a scriber
I find the 1/2 inch fits my hand the best!
Get a markal paint stick
BY THE WAY , YOUR NEW NAME IS THE ART MAN.
her amaca göre kullanılacak ürün değişir the product to be used for each purpose varies
And some are better then others. Thanks for watching.
Hy friend i am hydrollic engeneer and i made one machine so now am write name this machine so what can i write plz u solve my problem
Not sure what you are looking for?
How can I help you?
I have those markers for steel we run through about 1000 a week they tip just gets ruined wax rubs off too
They do not take kindly to excessive pressure on the tip. Still looking for the "right" marker. The hunt goes on....
My 1st thought and last as the video came to an end. “ why didn’t you even SHOW the lines made let alone zoom in on them”
Because I was not running the camera and didn't think to tell the person on the camera to do so. Can't think of everything.
That pencil screeching makes my teeth hurt.
I hear ya!
Love the video, that jacket would get hot in summer
Yes it does!
supper
try the Milwaukee inkzall
+Vince Neil
Will look for one.. thanks for the tip..

Not really, No such thing I think...
Forwarding the video to our steel shop foreman. All he ever buys is soapstone and he complains about having to always purchase it. Maybe this will dry up his tears. Thanks, mark
I prefer a metal scribe myself for the best line ever.
I like one as well. Just hard to see the line on the old metal I use.
Show us the lines!!!!!
were defiantly not in Kansas anymore
With all do respect Kevin please don't dismiss soapstone. It has it's place, they're great for non permeant cut marks as well as drawing out ideas/concepts to employees on the welding table or work. I would like it if you checked out my video Pimp My Soapstone Holder and tell me what you think. It addresses the issue of dulling in it, and how to make precise marks every single time. Thanks th-cam.com/video/NTYFyyZO0hc/w-d-xo.html
@mjmerie They're called scribes. :-)
1:05 dude be sniffin
Well, maybe every once in a while..
Too bad camera didn’t show any of the line
Old video, still learning back then. Thanks for watching.
HERTÜRLÜSÜNÜ DENEDİM ÇOK ÖNCEDEN
4:17 'Hey now that's a pretty good line'....proceeds to NOT SHOW THE DANG LINE!
Sorry, had to discipline the camera girl!
Soapstone powder is Talc as in baby Powder and cancer (soapstone is
asbestos) and that is why welders use it as it does not burn from a
cutting torch. That powder you just made can cause mesothelioma.
Soapstone/talc is hydrated magnesium silicate (Mg3Si4O10(OH)2). It is not a carcinogen, however, talc is an inhaled irritant, and breathing enough powdered soapstone/talc over time will result in silicosis.
Asbestos is one of six silicate minerals but the relevant silicate here is chrysotile or white asbestos (Mg3(Si2O5)(OH)4). It is a known carcinogen. Breathing enough asbestos fibrils can lead to about a dozen very bad conditions including peritoneal mesothelioma and lung cancer.
Soapstone and asbestos are not the same mineral. Some soapstone is contaminated with asbestos. The soapstone used in welding crayons is selected for uniformity (consistent strength and line appearance) and the presence of asbestos would markedly weaken the sample and make it unsuitable for use as a crayon. So very unlikely to create a risk of mesothelioma. Also, the quantity of dust produced with a soapstone marker is vastly smaller than in the smallest household uses of talcum powder, so is also unlikely to create a significant risk of silicosis.
Heck, everyone knows that... ; ) @@rossbagley9015
Nice. I can now put away my China markers. :-)
I went and purchased a box of 12 welders pencils and these things stink for aluminum. Red riter they are called and won’t leave a line on any aluminum. Terrible. Going back to scribes and fastcap markers.
Well I am sorry to hear that. They work for me for some reason.
im only here for graffiti related reasons.
Tag!! You're it!
i'm here because i wanna reflective custom sneaker
You need the paint pen with the little rattle in it
02:21 is that stomach sound ? 😅
Sorry, eating my own cooking.
You made a video and didnt show us anything… let us see the lines and decide for ourselves…
Sorry but all the outtakes for this video are gone. It's a really old video!
Is it just me or does this chap sound like Kermit the frog?
Better to sound like Kermit than look like Miss Piggy!
@@KevincaronSculpture
This is true but I'm not sure Miss Piggy would agree. 😁
Nope, skies the wrong color and everyone talks funny.....

your wife is sloppy. . should film what you are doing (close up of your work) not you . . we can´t see what you are drawing or the quality of those lines
I will be sure to tell her you said so.
