So excited to start another series!!! come join on apartment hunting, moving and settling into my new apartment (please pray that I find a good one this time :)). I will be posting a detailed apartment hunting video similar to the last time ( • NYC APARTMENT HUNTING ... . I thought it would be fun to take you along from the beginning!!!
My lease ends only end of February but I am breaking my lease early because of the ongoing issues and back and forth with my current building management.
In this apartment hunting video ft. Ashanti, we tour 5 apartments in manhattan, get ghosted & provide our insights during the viewings.

I just love Ashanti, she's the friend everyone needs in their life. She is such an asset in the hunt because she plays devil's advocate & tries to help to keep it real. I can't imagine adding a long commute or going without laundry in building. Best wishes in your search, it's daunting to be sure.

If you find issues like you found in the last apartment again…You can buy a small Dometic chest freezer that can sit in a cupboard in the living area, if you need more freezer space. And buy a tall cupboard for the lounge for more storage. Storage ottomans. All sorts of things to create more storage.
I lived in NYC for 6 years. At your price range, there are going to be cons, it's just about which you are willing to live with. IMHO: the apartment you said was too small that had the broker who gave you those nondiscrimination forms was the best option. I know it's not ideal with the size, but I can tell from the finishes the unit wasn't piecemealed together and would offer you a lot of what you are looking for, minus the size. Larger units will be older and more likely to have pest, mold issues etc. that is just the reality. Also that broker is a huge GREEN FLAG and I think that's a really good sign of what would be to come if they hired someone so competent.
Agreed with all of these points. Personally, I would much rather sacrifice space for an apartment that's clean and well-maintained (and in an ideal location) versus a larger place run by slumlords. Also, whatever apartment you end up choosing isn't going to be permanent; it's a matter of deciding what suits your needs well enough for the next few years or so.

Just a thought about the window look you like. Depending on the size, you can buy the mullion inserts for windows. You might have to figure a way to hold them in, if an odd size. You could even have someone make one for you. Then you could put the inserts in the windows wherever you are. Look online for the mullions, or ask a good hardware store. Enjoyed the video,

Man I remember when the last apartment was going for under $2k a few years ago 😩😭 (I think $1950?) These increases are killing me knowing they are able to take lower but can keep increasing it and will get it. You've probably already found a place but fyi I see this apt come up a bit so I think the turnover might be a little high. Hope you found a place you're happy with! 💛🌇

I get it. I'm blinded by the windows too 😭. But commute and no laundry makes it a no sadly. I drove an hour to work for over a year snd hated it. Not fun. Plus the lack of a freezer irks me. Ugh keep looking, your place is there, i can feel it. Happy new year!

Oh gosh my son and his gf are few years back had a heck of a time finding an apartment. The eventually found one in Brooklyn. They were both fresh out of school, so we had to co-sign for them. It was not easy.

I loved the video, huge fan of Ashanti here haha One tip for the roach issue- get yourself a huge bottle of Frontline (what is used to spray dogs and cats for fleas and ticks) and generously spray around the spots where you have cockroaches- tried and tested in multiple apartments- the ones who were there die, and the roaches never come back for some reason. Same goes for ants. Byeee x

Thanks for taking us along the apartment hunting, it's quite interesting to see how it goes in other countries and exciting too though I see it's as crazy as the Parisian market, wow, those prices are insane!). I totally understand your enthusiasm for the last flat, I liked it a lot too, but you're right to think about the cons much more seriously, especially the commute... hope you find the right balance and get to feel homey safe and happy in the new place, whichever one you selected!
God bless anyone who chooses to live in New York. I’m so fascinated by the rental market there. I live in LA which is equally expensive but at least the apartments are nice with full-size appliances and your toilet is never inside your kitchen 😮 Square footage depends on what area you choose but as a whole you’re never under 500sq ft.
I liked the last one as well, but I get that the down points are... important. I'm really excited to see more! Hopefully, you're gonna find the perfect space for you. What I hate about nyc is that they rent so expensive apartments that are a disgrace to architecture 😂

Hi Tisha, regarding your elbow problem - you need a split keyboard. I'm using a keyboard 8 to 10 hrs a day. My right elbow got so bad. After I purchased my split keyboard -Kinesis Freestyle 2 -my elbow issued cleared up. It really worked. :)

Happy 2024! I randomly got recommended your vids few months ago while I was looking to move out solo from roommate life. Even though I'm on the west coast california, it's been a pleasure watching your vids, feeling relatable navigating 30s and moving/unpacking, and seeing NYC through you. So relatable I now found a couple of my own roaches -_- Really hope we're not on the same apt timeline although I doubt I'd get mold here. P.S. I love the apts with bricks, such cute aesthetics :)

LOVED the same apartment that you loved!! I would get it..... if it makes you happy, then the commute can be worked out. What is most important is that you love the space, there is A LOT of light & that you like the bldg. The fridge is not a problem -- just buy another mini fridge. I had to do that for my studio and it worked just fine...... They don't take up that much space - - you can get a mini fridge that has more of a freezer. I lived that way for 3 years in a studio & it did not bother me at all. : ) : ) I'd grab that apt. up, if I were you. LOVE those windows, too!! AND, I would prioritize apartment over laundry....... if you love that space & it makes you feel so at home, full of light & beauty, you laundry will come second & you can just take your clothes & wash them at the laundromat. I'd want that apartment more..... : )
You can even buy a mini freezer!

I think "glass bricks" is what you were trying to think of. And good luck with apt hunting! p,s, I believe that having the bathroom away from the kitchen and living area is good feng shui.
