    I have adapted Odroid N2+ as my everyday desktop. It has fairly higher specs that any Pine64 product as of today, and it's still arm64 machine. You did cover most of the classic games indeed, but didn't touch excellent open-source games such as battle for Wesnoth, or Widelands. Both 2D and slow paced / turn-based strategy games, which of course would run fine on such a machine.

    3:33 - Can confirm it does! I tested a bunch of games on a Raspberry Pi 5, and I got the Java Edition running through Prism Launcher (which is available on ARM as a flatpak).
    What surprised me was how well the game ran. It wasn't the latest version (1.12.2), but with fast settings and low render distance, it ran very well (and that's without any performance mods like Optifine). In fact, it ran better than some x86 computers I've run Minecraft on. It wouldn't run as well on the PineBook Pro, but I don't see why it can't be optimised to be playable.

    Set GPU to 800Mhz; set CPU governor to performance and have another go at it ;) When testing emulators, do give the dedicated Recalbox image a go - you'll get vastly better performance than anything installed in the desktop environment

    4:20 so it can't have a ingame 3d resolution scaling? this will make it a bit harder for 3d games

    Does gamescope work with it? If so, you could get full screen 720p, since gamescope can handle the upscaling for your hardware.

    Wait, did you say there's a way to emulate x86 games on ARM? That would be cool!

    • @linuxlounge
      @linuxlounge  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      There is indeed a way, it's called box86, but I've sadly never had much luck with it, though it does indeed work, let me know if you want more information though

    • @TheRealFrankWizza
      @TheRealFrankWizza 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      There are twister OS images for pinebook pro and ras pi4. Twister OS has box86 preinstalled. I have it on the pi4. I haven't tried steam games, but I have had good luck installing GOG games. Deus Ex runs playable on the raspi, KOTOR2 runs great, the older hitman games run fine as well.

    • @feriante777
      @feriante777 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah, box86, box64, qemu and exagear desktop. Check pilabs, microlinux and the byteman channels for box86 and 64 videos. Many games run fine and better than rpi4 with rk3399 sbc's

      Well, you should use Qemu in Qemu User Emulation mode.

    Not bad. Definitely needs some work but i think it could get alot better when arm starts to become more common :) and apple already started that trend so it's only matter of time :p

    • @linuxlounge

      I totally agree, ARM is getting more and more common and it is does we should see the results of that in the Linux world, that said though the Pinebook Pro just isn't meant to be a gaming machine so it already does everything that it's supposed to

    • @LivingLinux
      @LivingLinux 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      ARM is already common, as practically all smartphones have ARM chips. Samsung already showed with DEX that they can be used for "desktop" work. Don't underestimate the Rockchip RK3399. As far as I know, the original Samsung Chromebook Plus has the same chip and it runs Riptide (Android game) without any problem. SuperTuxKart should play fine on the Pinebook Pro, once we have proper drivers.

    Hi there, just want you to know that there is in fact a demo version of Minecraft. I haven‘t used the demo for a long time, but I think it just comes down to registering a account without buying the game. I will edit in a link once I find a tutorial for it. You get to play in one world for 5 in-game days, after that the world gets reset. Should be plenty of time to test though...
    Edit:
    This seems to be the official demo site: www.minecraft.net/en-us/free-trial
    You have to scroll down to the java version as Bedrock edition doesn‘t support Linux.
