    OMG I LOVE YOU. You just simplified life for a business major writing a paper about CNTs

    @krecian in this case it's iron (but nickel is also used a lot). But instead of starting with the iron on a surface, a gas of the molecule 'ferrocene' is used, a molecule with carbon, hydrogen, and one atom of iron in it. So the iron arrives in the gas at the same time as the carbon.

    Really great summary!

    So far I am not aware of anything like that.
    If the nanotubes are opened ends and you put them in contact with buckyballs, buckyballs tends to enter inside the nanotubes (the form is called peapod) - given that the nanotube has an appropriate diameter.
    Another form which "may be related" to what you suggest :) are nanobuds. Check the episode 5 of this serie to see some more nanoforms of carbon.

    Alan Windle's group in Cambridge have designed a furnace that does just that - you can google it, trey draw the nanotubes out like from a cloud of candyfloss, and spin them into a fibre. Haven't used it for a space elevator yet though as far as I know.

  • @nano2hybrids
    @nano2hybrids  14 ปีที่แล้ว

    Hi Jawwadsaif,
    The furnace is a standard tube furnace which typically can get up to 1200C. The tube is a quartz glass tube.

    Check this two references:

    @nano2hybrids thanks for the info..do you have any references (videos would be great) on supercapacitors where carbon nanotubes are used..

    Hi, Do you know where I can find more details on carbon nanotubes synthesized by electrolysis? An experimental procedure is really what I'm looking for at the moment but I can't seem to find one anywhere. Any help would be much appreciated, Thanks.

    can we prepare nanotube manually like without machine?

  • @deaftodd
    @deaftodd 15 ปีที่แล้ว

    I wondered if they can connect a nanotube to a buckyball. That would be a pretty good way to fasten things like a bike brake cable to a fastening to a brake lever.

    isnt it possible, that we would collect large amounds of carbon dioxide and through many chemical reactions make carbon, and nanotubes from that. it would be verry usefull, but does anybody have any ideas on how to get the carbon out?

    Hi alex681219,
    I tried to watch the video but the quality of the image is awful and the audio is cut a couple of times...
    The carbon nanotubes can be considered as polymers (one monomer which is repeated many times along a chain). Also, they are mixed with polymer for a lot of their application. There is some research going on intelligent polymer and nanotubes, check Intelligent Polymer Research Institute in Wollongong website.

    I would think you would use a type of computer controled tornado in a tube to force the tubes to join together! As quicky as possible. BAKE, SWIRL, more tubes & EXTRUDE cable! Betcha thats way we do it to make the space elevator ribbon.

  • @VRtechman

    Eventually this process should be just as easy as spining yarn or thread. Which was industrialized over a hundred years ago!

    @ItlogNaEgg in the future they predict it can be used for anything and everything, including an elevator to space

    There are many things in this video I don't understand, but perhaps the greatest is that the little cartoon nanotube has girl eyelashes and a man voice. I guess he could be a cross-dressing nanotube, I'm ok with that.

    So basically they're just made by taking carbon and blasting the shit out of it, then you have to dig through the remains to find them. The second technique makes them find themselves for you. I guess this informs you how they're made, but I wanted to know how they form :<
    Too much of chemistry is ridiculous trial and error of blowing shit up, I can't stand it. I prefer my theoretical physics.
