Unless you are underground without a flashlight, there will always be ambient light, be it from stars, the moon, city lights, etc. If you hold your hand up to the sky, you will see a silhouette of your hand because the sky is very bright, even at night. Black stands out like a sore thumb at night, especially once your eyes adjust to the darkness.

If you take an oxy-acetylene torch and turn on just the acetylene (no oxygen) and torch an object with it, it will cover it in a very matte suit similar looking to vantablack. Only problem is it rubs off very easily.

honestly you could make solar sails which are lined with these to achieve higher efficiency with solar cells where the heat is transferred to an array which might not be getting sunlight. Since it is carbon nanotubes, should be easy enough to redirect the excess sunlight.
