Having a 3.5" screen on this thing does not make sense, it should just be a full sized arcade stick that connects to a tv, with 2 controller ports in case you would rather use a control pad

Sadly, what MLP called out yesterday is also true though. SNK is Chinese owned, so it’s entirely possible they are rolling with less than elevated standards and simply don’t care. To that end though, I still think we need to give them a shot to see what their official announcement looks like.
For me, if SNK is making it, no way it would look like that especially after that whole NGX debacle. If it was made by a 3rd party company, then SNK wouldn’t even had made a teaser as it would be done by the 3rd party company. I think this might just be a distraction to get people talking about it then they release the real one and it blows everything away. If you look at the shape under the cloth, it looks more closer to a Big Red than a Candy Cab. And lastly, if it really does only have 40 games, I hope it’s hackable to put the whole library on it.
Yeah, we really need the Big Red style in North America to give it that extra marketing push. Not everyone is going to recognize the Candy Cab style here, and it could hurt them a little. I’m with you on the hacking too, I’m guessing at the end of the day none of us really need to be concerned about what the official list is since we’ll be changing it to whatever we want.
There's zero bang for the buck here with this NeoGeo Mini concept. If you think about it, the only thing NeoGeo is actually selling you that's new is the mini cabinet, not the games. Pretty much all 40 of these games were already available on portables like the GPD XD, Singularity, and NVidia Shield. And affordable, high quality 1P and 2P retro arcade consoles like Pandora's Box 5 include all of these games plus 920 more, a far superior value per dollar spent than this concept.
I’m personally not a huge fan of this, but I am guessing they will get a few collectors as well as the more casuals who want to get into Neo. That seems to be at least part of what happened with the Neo Geo X.

I don’t really need any more ways to play these games. I have a cab, consolized mvs, and a pi. I was looking at it more from an SNK collector standpoint. It’s not a real need for me personally, I just find some of the design decisions a little off.
I don’t have much faith in this coming to America. The market interest pales in comparison to the NES and SNES, which were in millions of homes. No one is keeping pace with Nintendo on the hardware nostalgia front. I can only see Sony having success with a PSX mini, though we know SEGA would screw up a Saturn or Dreamcast mini with AtGames.
I’d agree that the market for this is a lot smaller than that of the other consoles you mentioned. SNK seems to have an almost cult following here amongst the more die hards that helps keep it more relevant than it otherwise would be. That also means our market would be highly price sensitive to something like this for all except that niche of die hards, which is another thing I’m curious about.

The announcement made by SNK was also in Japanese, further signalling that they were promoting a device for the Japanese game market, at least initially. As for the leaks, if they are real, then its definitely a bad design, especially in terms of the controls. That mini cab is way too small, the buttons are too close together. I would also like to think SNK would've included more of the obscure arcade titles, or even a couple new ones at launch, but that's not what we see with the leaked info.

i hope you are right. my dream neo geo mini would be a tiny hdmi aes with maybe 75% size arcade stick controllers, connected via 10 foot usb cables for added pc/pi use.
Not a bad vision! I’m not opposed to the mini arcade cabinet style with a screen though. I think it’s kind of cool actually, and a nice variant from what Nintendo and Sega have done. I think the Neo Geo X came with decent sized arcade sticks, but I believe they may have been a little lighter than the originals from what I read.

Thank you for saying this. Too many certain TH-camrs, not gonna say who, are hyping this thing up. It is simply too small to play as the games are intended. Neo Geo games need a solid joystick you can wrap your hand around or at least a sturdy dpad. Not to mention that screen is way too small. I would buy one for like $20 as a cool prop but that's it. Much rather emulate these games on my PC or download to the PS4 or switch.

Hearing early reports that the controller isn’t too great isn’t comforting, but adhering to my own advice I have to wait until actual reviews are out. Totally agree about playing on the actual unit, I don’t think that is going to be very practical for quite a few of the games on the lineup.
My theory is that’s something very similar to what’s coming out, but not the real deal. An unreleased game on the screen, the back corners of the marquee are rounded compared to squared off that’s under the black cloth. The games list looks super dodgy. Even in its completely random ordering. Why have 3 Metal Slug games listed on one part of the list, then another 3 separated on another part of the list.
Something will be better than nothing, that I would agree with. But yeah, how one of the most iconic arcade designs of the 90s isn’t realized into the design for the western market is baffling.

Well i was told three weeks ago it was a new arcade machine , so I'm going to say this is legit. I do think this isnt the final one though. I believe the only difference will be tye colour buttons.
I really hope that this unit we've seen pictures of is a hoax and that what they actually release is completely different. I was very interested after hearing it announced but since seeing those pics I wouldn't want that - to me it looks too gimmicky and like a cheap toy. 👎
That’s an interesting point now that you mention it. I’m not sure how well a 90s candy cabinet translates to miniature form without looking a little...cheap. It’s all personal opinion of course, but yes, give me the Big Red.
I think it’ll get released for sure, who knows whether or not in the US though. If they can’t hit a $100 price they are putting themselves in a tough position to move units imo.
Scarlet Sprites If we look at all them arm based single board computers. Then the basic technology of them, mixed with some software, opens up for emulation of the original hardware. So in theory, it can be produced cheap. Lets just wait and see, if they do the mistakes of all them sega mini consoles (sound and other issues), or they can produce something that will play the games without any issues. I am also interested in stability. And what technology the storage will be based on. Take my Orange PI as an example. If it gets too hot, it will corrupt low grade SD cards. In other words. The neogeo mini's game list is of now, nothing that interests me. Guess I am more of a hardware guy.
I am glad tbh as reds are rare in the UK so a candy is the better of two evils , still have my mvs. No doubt since snk are Chinese now it will just be some linux we can hack add our own games

Oh, it’s still BS in my opinion. That’s kind of the point of the video. It’s personal taste, but I’m just not a fan of the design. I at least hope the games play well and we don’t have another X on our hands.
SNK went through bankruptcy and now has a Chinese parent company. Inconsistencies are expected I guess. Capcom did not go through so much, and they sometimes do not make any sense. It seems a lot of TH-camrs who attach their image to their love to SNK are sour they were not the ones who broke the news. SWN said himself, treat this as a rumour. No need to use strong words against what was reported.

How is it on Saturn? I’ve played it on DC but I’ve never owned a Saturn. I keep telling myself I’m going to pickup a Saturn but I never seem to get around to it.
Scarlet Sprites it's super nice. It has some slow down but not enough to ruin the experience. Saturn + the HSS-0136 joystick = a great time with the Saturn line up of fighters and shmups! Its a nice piece of hardware to own.
You know, cultural differences did cross my mind at one point. I just can’t get past thinking that it’s 2018 and sound business decisions also would be in play, at least from a marketing standpoint. They have to realize that that design is largely foreign to most of us here state side. Then again, if those sounds business decisions come down to cost and limiting variances with the product, maybe they did what they had to do. We’ll just have to wait to see what official word we get from SNK when the time comes.

Well confirmed on NEO GEO FACEBOOK PAGE as valid, the real deal, will probably be better than the NEO GEO X handheld from a few years ago.

Well i was told three weeks ago it was a new arcade machine , so I'm going to say this is legit. I do think this isnt the final one though. I believe the only difference will be tye colour buttons.

I really hope that this unit we've seen pictures of is a hoax and that what they actually release is completely different. I was very interested after hearing it announced but since seeing those pics I wouldn't want that - to me it looks too gimmicky and like a cheap toy. 👎
That’s an interesting point now that you mention it. I’m not sure how well a 90s candy cabinet translates to miniature form without looking a little...cheap. It’s all personal opinion of course, but yes, give me the Big Red.

I think it’ll get released for sure, who knows whether or not in the US though. If they can’t hit a $100 price they are putting themselves in a tough position to move units imo.
Scarlet Sprites If we look at all them arm based single board computers. Then the basic technology of them, mixed with some software, opens up for emulation of the original hardware. So in theory, it can be produced cheap. Lets just wait and see, if they do the mistakes of all them sega mini consoles (sound and other issues), or they can produce something that will play the games without any issues. I am also interested in stability. And what technology the storage will be based on. Take my Orange PI as an example. If it gets too hot, it will corrupt low grade SD cards. In other words. The neogeo mini's game list is of now, nothing that interests me. Guess I am more of a hardware guy.

Yeah, I know they’ve reported on the leak as well. The last I saw from IGN was that “none of it has been verified by SNK.” That last piece is what I’m really waiting on.

I’d be ok with a Big Red style arcade styled unit, but the Candy Cab design is just not something that screams 90s arcade to most here in the States. My guess is that based on the only official announcement we have, it’s most definitely an arcade styled device.

Oh, it’s still BS in my opinion. That’s kind of the point of the video. It’s personal taste, but I’m just not a fan of the design. I at least hope the games play well and we don’t have another X on our hands.
SNK went through bankruptcy and now has a Chinese parent company. Inconsistencies are expected I guess. Capcom did not go through so much, and they sometimes do not make any sense.
It seems a lot of TH-camrs who attach their image to their love to SNK are sour they were not the ones who broke the news.

Scarlet Sprites In all fairness, SNK official release is in Japanese and we have no word so far it will be released in other regions. So this is for all intents and purposes, a Japanese release only. We are all assuming it will come West, but that is our fault :). I for one, actually dig the design.

Scarlet Sprites it's super nice. It has some slow down but not enough to ruin the experience. Saturn + the HSS-0136 joystick = a great time with the Saturn line up of fighters and shmups! Its a nice piece of hardware to own.

I think you are not accounting for the chinese knockoff culture 'don't care about accuracy' the chinese owners of snk are showing with this product.
You know, cultural differences did cross my mind at one point. I just can’t get past thinking that it’s 2018 and sound business decisions also would be in play, at least from a marketing standpoint. They have to realize that that design is largely foreign to most of us here state side. Then again, if those sounds business decisions come down to cost and limiting variances with the product, maybe they did what they had to do. We’ll just have to wait to see what official word we get from SNK when the time comes.

I’m really not that upset, like you are mentioning we have a number of different ways to play these games. I just find it odd that Football Frenzy would trump Baseball Stars 2. My guess is that Windjammers and Neo Turf Masters are omitted since they are being sold for PS4 and Switch already. I really enjoy Top Hunter too, btw.
