    What do Japanese people think of foreign countries? I interviewed Japanese people about countries they have been to. Countries they talk about: the UK, the US, Thailand, South Korea, New Zealand, Germany, Laos, the Philippines etc.

Ademas que muchos estadounidenses vivnen con una muy mala actitud y aires de superioridad y grandeza y eso hace que quienes tienen contacto con esa gente detesten a todo estaounidense.

    I like that japanese people are the only people who have the same (or a similar) name for my country as I do myself.
    You call us "Doitsu", which when pronounced sounds almost identical to "Deutsch", which is what we call ourselves.
    English call us "German", French call us "allemand", Italians call us "tedesco", Polish call us "Niemcy". It all sounds completely different. Only the japanese call us by our real name.

I still call the Hollish as Hollish but I did research and found that the word comes from an aincient Germanic root that more or less means: Related to the Population, ofter used in the language as the (Germanic) Population. Basically referring to one's own population. I wouldn't say that that is your real name, in the sense that the people that used to live in the area of Germany have been many and have assumed different identities in time and the word Deutsch reached even Britain in the form of Theod!
      But hey dear Dutchman, I'll keep calling you tedesco and your country Germania!

      Well, I've been on holidays in Romania. The train came 2.5 hours late plus it stood 2.5 hours; 20 minutes after it left the station.
      No announcement, no indication where you are at the moment (no, there were no signs at the station either, as we were so far in the back), no air-condition, we had to hop down like half a meter, because there was no pavement so far in the back. The station were we arrived was flodded, so we had to go across the rails.

      will cost you €45 euro to travel 55 miles from my hometown to London on 40 year old trains that rarely go a top speed of 125mph (201km/h) that are rarely on time. you have to lean out the window to open them from the handle on the outside because there is no handle inside the train door. I saw a French family attempt to alight from the train at Reading station. they were confused for a solid minute before I opened the door for them.

    No that's pretty spot on for Britain ha ha, especially the late trains!! although I've never heard of people eating fish and chips for breakfast!! Might be getting it confused with bacon and eggs maybe. Most people eat toast or cereal for breakfast, and I can't remember the last time I ate fish and chips, too fatty. I love Japanese food but it's hard to find outside of London, and even in London it's not the same as what you get in Japan.

    As a British guy, I personally love our greasy food. It's important to bear in mind though that the greasy stuff is mostly full English breakfasts and takeaway though. Even to locals, fish and chips is regarded as a greasy takeaway meal. It's not something you typically make at home.
    There are lots of household meals that aren't necessarily greasy, but virtually none of our meals are light. Things like bangers and mash, pork pies and shepherd's pie are all standard meals you'd cook up at home. If you were to compare it with other countries meals then our food is mainly simple dishes in comparison to French and Italian cuisine that takes a lot of preparation.
    I feel like the main criticism people normally have of British cuisine is fish and chips. Even in the case of full English breakfasts I rarely hear any complaints, despite it normally featuring a lot of fried meat.
    If you're interested in trying traditional English household meals then I'd recommend a full Sunday roast, steak and kidney pudding and shepherds pie. Popular products that are widely used outside the UK include Cheddar cheese and English mustard. Marmite is more controversial. Arguably our baking is better received, with scones, Victoria sandwich cakes and christmas pudding all widely enjoyed throughout the world.
    More than anything, Britain has a great variety of nice cheese. Cheddar is apparently the most popular cheese in the world, but there are a number of other well received types including Cheshire, blue stilton, red Leicester and cornish brie. There are supposedly over 700 types of cheese native to the UK.

      Your opinion is very close minded. The Cotswolds which attracts a very large portion of Japanese tourists mainly has British pubs, yet they happily eat and usually enjoy eating there, so try telling that to them. Besides, you clearly haven't enjoyed and hearty day out at the pub before. Sausage and mash with gravy, sheppards pie Yorkshire puddings, very tasty, yes it might not be anytihng special to most, but let's be fair here. Plus, you can't be fish and chips as far as British food goes and that is my favourite meal overall! (This also comming from a 90's kid British person as well).

    It's interesting to see that France (especially Paris) isn't the number one destination for Japanese people anymore. I guess it's because this city quality decreased a lot these past 10 years.

    • @JoeBlo2
      @JoeBlo2 9 ปีที่แล้ว +14

      MrSmalltie I just came back from a two week visit to Japan, and I would say that the Japanese interest in French culture still exists to some extent. Much of it is related to food like pastries, wine, and high-end dining. The perception that the Japanese have of France - Paris especially - is perhaps too romanticized and idealistic but the fascination is still there.

      Jitsu man State: a nation or territory considered as an organized political community under one government. Hawaii can be considered a country as much Scotland and Wales can be.

    • @Jitsuman
      @Jitsuman 8 ปีที่แล้ว +34

      +Lazy Spark There is a difference between the terms nation, state, and country, even though the words are often used interchangeably.
      Country and State are synonymous terms that both apply to self-governing political entities. A state, however, is a group of people who share the same culture but do not have sovereignty.
      When the “s” of state is lowercase, it constitutes a part of a whole country, such as the different states of the United States of America. When the “S” of State is uppercase it signifies an independent country.

    I really had to laugh at the comments about "British Food" because that really does depend on which part of the UK you're in eg. Different countries - Scotland etc and again, what region of all the different countries within the UK you visit - it's all vastly different. (I'm from Scotland)
    I do agree that fish and chips can be pretty greasy, so it would be a pretty big adjustment for people that aren't used to heavier, greasy foods.
    I would love to know if many Japanese people are interested in visiting Scotland? I wonder if there has been more interest, since the Drama 'Massan' aired?

The part about rubbish on the streets is right because there aren't enough bins closely around to put them in so people just litter then the government just cleans them up. Did the Japense realise not only White people living in the UK but quite a lot of people from different backgrounds alking amongst each other. That is something Japan doesn't have much of and I think it's nice for people to be friends with others

    I'll take that challange, Yuta! ;P We have a LOT of Japanese tourists in Norway and Sweden, so here's a few tips: Norway: Many are shocked about the prices in Norway, but as in most countries there are tourist traps with high prices and big food stores with prices you may be more used to in Japan. Do your research. Norwegians may seem a bit cold but they are only affraid to bother you, so if you start to talk with hem they will be very happy. I would point out five highligts for you as a Japanese: 1. Stavanger is Norways oil town, but the former fishing city, is screened from cars and absolutely wonderful to spend a weekend in. The old town (Gamle Stavanger) is still the way it was in the 18th Century and has a cool canning museum where you even get to taste the canned fish. Close by is the amazing Lysefjord with the preacher's chair. The boat will take you there, and if you are affraid of heights you can see it from underneeth in the boat instead. Close by the airport is also a really nice sand beach. 2. Oslo: Oslo is changing fast and getting very exciting as far as arcitecture. Check out Aker Habour (Aker brygge), The Vigeland's park, The Castle, The Viking museum with real Viking ships, The Much museum and more. You can stay at a hotel but amny in the city DO rent out their appartment or just a bedroom. 3. Whale Safari (photo only): Along the coast line we have a lot of whales and dolphins (do NOT talk about the killing of Dolphins in Japan) (you'll find some of them here: no.tripadvisor.com/Attractions-g190455-Activities-c61-t188-Norway.html. 4. The northern lights (magical) You can find info in the same link as under number 3. Keep in mind though that you could be unlucky and arrive when it's cloudy, but in the far North they have a big cinema that will bring you close to the experience - if it's cloudy. 5. Hurtigruten is a boat running along the west coast and in good weather it's pure blizz and paradise. With whales, dolphins, utters, seals, eagles and beautiful sceneries. BUT It's VERY expensive and you need to pre-book. 6. Underwater Restaurant. In Lindesnes the Underwater restaurant (south in Norway) will now open. 7. The 17th of May is the Norwegian natinal day and it is amazing. It's starts early though so do not sleep too long at the hotel. Dress nicely. Sweden: Sweden is less expensive and here are some tips: 1. Stockholm is a beautiful town painted in red earth collors. The Old City (Gamla Stan) is especially popular among japanese tourists with it's narrow stone paved streets and small stores. It is also where you buy your souvenirs. Also vist Djurgården with it's tivoli and zoo. If you want a sightseeing feel free to contact me here and I'll show you around for free if I have the time. :) 2. Ice hotel: In the north you'll find a hotel created ONLY frm ice in the winter. It is pure magic and rebuilt every single year. 3. Kosterhavet National Park: Sweden has - as Norway do - a beautiful coastal line, and this park is a good place to experience the Swedish one. 4. Northern lights - again: Also in Sweden you can catch the Northern ligts - anywhere in the far north. Naturally both countries have many more sights. You can feel free to snog your sweetheart in the streets without people reacting - straight or gay. Do not play music loudly on your phone. Racist, homophobic or sexist remorks will NOT be popular. Feel free to eat on the street but always throw garbage in the bin. Do not use your phone in the cinema, smile and nod back when people smile and nod - they often do if you meet their eyes when passing them. If you do not react they will see it as very rude. Feel free to shake hands and hug people you spend time with - we are quite physical. Do not smoke or drink in public, be kind to animals, notice that Saturday the stores close early and Sundays they are closed. Feel free to ask questions!

So my advice if you wanna live here, i suggest studying Japanese first. I live here in Tokyo and the first months were dreadful because I couldn't speak the language. But i took a year of extensive Japanese school. So I'm doing ok, but there are times that are still really difficult for me, especially when it comes to filling out paperwork and stuff. I am British English and I can understand how someone who is coming from a culture with a vegetable and fish based diet could find the food in Britain very stodgy because it is based mainly around carbohydrates, such as bread and potatos. If you do go to Britain you should definitely try to eat a 'Sunday Roast' or a sausage roll from Greggs as they are very nice.
    We also don't use as many spices or herbs in out cooking other than salt and pepper, so it could taste very bland if someone from say, India where lots of spices are used, were to eat our cuisine.

      Most Japanese food is not very salty and they hardly ever use butter or animal fat, so a lot of European cooking in general is either too greasy or too salty for them.

    "I didn't know what traditional British food was, so I ended up eating Chinese food." So, basically, traditional British food. :D

    The food in the UK isn't the best in the world, but I wouldn't say it was bad. I've lived in countries with a lot worse and blander food than the UK has. I think a lot of tourists are far too preoccupied with fish and chips without realizing that it's just fast food and that British people don't eat it all the time or even that often.

    I was born and raised in London but have never been to Japan. I would really like to see the more traditional side of japan and their cultural practices. Kabuki, tea houses, sumo and learn more about their shinto and bushido philosophy. Is this still practiced in Japan? Great video though!!!
    thank you

      Yeah, I was surprised by how natural it sounded! I think nowadays more Japanese people try to imitate American accents and lose what's known as "katakana English".

      rencrow so? I know ppl that lived in a english speaking country for 15 years and they still got the most terrible accent... so that fact don't say much. I know some asians that lived in sweden and usa for years, they still cant speak properly

    • @kiissemiss
      @kiissemiss 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Annie W Not asians tho, but a guy from armenia, who has lived here (sweden) for about 4 years and he speaks fluent swedish :) It depends on the person if he/she got the intrest of learning the language of the country they live in. Another guy at my work whos from syria, has lived here almost 30 years, he has the heaviest accent ever and cannot write swedish without misspelling and doesnt understand everything we say. Prime examples of this :)

      +Annie W I agree. A lot of the English in the video was really good. I teach English in Japan and one small thing that jumped out at me is when she said "cause." Its the little things that makes someone a good speaker.

    First of all I want to say that I really enjoy watching your videos. They are very interesting.
    And I think it would be fun to see you interview some unique stylish people sometime around Tokyo. Maybe asking them questions about their style or something.
    Best Regards and Stay Awesome!

    • @SIG442
      @SIG442 9 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Windmills are everywhere now, so that's a fail.
      Pot heads are everywhere, so that is another fail.
      'Cyclists freaks' as you describe them are everywhere, and yes even in America and Japan. So another fail.
      You both try to troll, yet fail to understand how to do so. My question is not a bad one in any way, so behave for a change.

      @alanfalleur6550 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      SIG442 It was a poor attempt at humor on my part. I apologize.
      However, in my defense, when I typed "Holland" into Google and executed an image search, guess what were the first 20 pictures that came up. Tulips and windmills with a few pictures of the canals mixed in. That doesn't happen when I search "France" or "Norway."

    • @SIG442
      @SIG442 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Alan Falleur It's a stereotypical image many people have. Yes there are many windmills, because there is no space for nuclear plants everywhere like in the US. Yes there are many flowers that get sold oversees, because other nations keep asking for them. Yes there are wooden shoes, mostly for tourists alone and the occasional stubborn Dutch farmer.
      'Holland' is actually also in-accurate. 'Holland' stands for one of 2 Provinces, 'Noord Holland' or Zuid Holland, or a town called that name. The nation is called Nederland, not Holland ;)
      A mistake pretty much all non-Dutch people make because of what their schools teach and they don't pay attention it seems (or the schools teach the wrong things).
      If someone called the entire USA, 'Texas', that wouldn't be accurate either would it. Actually would upset and anger most Americans. As Dutch person myself I can just laugh at how people fail really. Yet it gets really annoying.

    • @alanfalleur6550
      @alanfalleur6550 9 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      SIG442 Interesting, but I think it's more like the practice of saying "England" when in fact the speaker means "United Kingdom." It's pretty hard to confuse Texas with the rest of the United States.
      Anyway, we should petition Yuta to do a word association game with different countries and see what the Japanese people say. I'll make the following prediction.
      USA - Statue of Liberty (I'll also accept New York)
      Canada - maple syrup
      Netherlands - tulips

    The thing I feel more anxious about when travelling is the food and I don't even have to leave my country (Portugal) to feel that way. When I went to France and Spain I'd always ordered the most "normal" dish because I was afraid I might dislike it, and I don't want to take the risk because I feel bad when I leave food on my plate

  • @guiltlesstwistedlie

    i live in cebu city. it's a very overpopulated metropolitan so it's a given, considering it's in a developing nation. it's so impressive how japanese people are very well traveled.
