None of them were even remotely fat. I actually gained weight due to the quarantine, I ballooned up to 195 lbs which is 20 lbs more my normal weight of 175 lbs. But after dieting and doing 30 minute exercises I lost 20 lbs in two months. The secret to losing weight is to just eat less. You can still eat all your favorite food but in portions instead of whole so for example instead of eating a whole box of pizza, only eat three slices of pizza.
Yeah. It's so unhealthy. Here, let me not eat sufficient calories and get no nutrition at all. And people still defend them online saying they're "totally healthy"
Well, it may be an extreme way of losing weight, but, as you see, they care more about their appearance than about their health. Also, many people starve themselves because it's the fastest or even the only way they can lose weight. I'm not defending them or saying it's better to starve yourself instead of losing weight in a 'healthy' way. I just wanted to share my opinion.
@Danny Wade *wait what. You mean I’m at risk for diseases.* yea I don’t think that’s true- I’m not obese but a little overweight and I don’t have any diseases or anything wrong with my body. Not any of my korean friends who are heavier than me experience any diseases or illness due to weight. I have seen many, many chubby and pretty girls in Korea too, not just skinny ones. It’s all based on genetics, my mother used to be very chubby when she was younger, but all that fat went into her height. I’m working out so I can look the way I want tho
These girls are literally prettier than me and my whole family tree wth. 😂 But it's so sad that even skinny girls like them are so conscious of themselves
I will never forget when I used to live in Korea and taught there, my female students saying that any woman over 48 kg was not a woman. When I first got there, I weighed 112 kg, I went to the gym, got a trainer, and got down to 79 kg. His goal for me was 50 kg. I thought he was crazy. I'm 170 cm and that is too tiny. Since leaving Korea, I'm now 60 kgs and have been for the past 3 years. I eat whole foods plant based and exercise 45 minutes daily. I think 60 kg is healthy and can't imagine being any smaller.
@@theemperor3557 yes, I was definitely obese. and their standards are crazy to me. I'd have to starve to get that small and I'd probably look very unhealthy
Reading your reply helped me understand how lucky I am to not live there. I would probably face judgements everyday about my appearance or weight. There's always a certain healthy weight range for each height and yeah 48kg isn't okay if you're 170cm tall. Unless you're naturally skinny I guess it's fine.
@@villainousextremity right? If you're that tall and naturally skinny like that, it's fine. but starving to try to attain that is not ok. I loved Korea and it's my second home. I lived there 3 years and even got married there. But their obsession with appearance is something I don't miss. People did make a lot of comments like "you have a pretty face but need to lose weight." "you have eyes like a doll but you'd look better skinnier." It bothered me. Attractive people get more, your picture is required on resumes, etc. Way too much focus on appearance
@@footballchica026 exactly. You shouldn't try to "diet" to be underweight or look pretty in a way you probably don't want to on your own. And honestly I think being healthy and fit is a lot more beautiful than fitting in these so called standards that prolly might not last long. There are health complications when being severely underweight such as menstrual problems, risk of osteoporosis, growth issues, anemia, etc. I guess if I would u I would get my freaking ass out of that country. It's just too toxic. Ps: I think you're beautiful already. Don't listen to these ridiculous people.

I think most don't know the healthy way. Starving is easier for them than exercising. Plus, many kpop idols have really horrific crash diets. Overall, it's not sustainable long term. However, there is this popular style of eating called Intermittent fasting. It's a great way to make sure you dont over eat it also get the benefits of fasting. I typically do omad (one meal a day) and I've done adf (alt day fasting) as well. The mentality of fasting and starving are different. Many people do 3day water fast to lose weight or to heal their skin or w.e. once you get used to a life style it's not too hard.
Starving is not effective because it's not deliberate nor controlled. But intermittent fasting (if you're not underweight, pregnant, still growing or have certain medical conditions like Type 1 diabetes) and shorter prolonged fasts (1-3 days) are very effective and healthy for you

I lived in Seoul for 3 years in middle and high school and I can confirm that the pressure of perfection in regard to appearance is pretty crippling. Although I'm half Korean, when I moved to Korea I had never before been really exposed to Korean diet culture and such, and I moved right as I was starting to hit my growth spurt, so I very quickly became hyper-aware and self-conscious of my body. This eventually turned into an eating disorder after a year of slowly realizing that I wasn't as skinny as everyone else around me. There's so much pressure to fit into a perfect, tiny mold, and I can't even imagine how much this would be heightened for people who are entirely Korean. I love many parts of Korea and my time there but my relationship with food permanently changed during my time there and it's caused pretty severe body dysmorphia that I still haven't gotten over years later. I hope the more girls help to change the culture surrounding body image there like the ones in this video!
honestly i started crying watching this video. I’m Korean American living in the states and this is all I could remember growing up. It’s not just the weight. When I was there; because of the way i looked I was a disgrace to my family. I was too fat, not eating enough, not smart enough, not talented enough… It’s hard to change something you were criticized your whole life for and tbh i haven’t been back to Korea in 10+ years. I still diet 24/7 and hate the way I look but I’m trying to love myself. Cause it’s not that we don’t or we don’t want to fix it culturally. It’s incredibly hard to promote change especially in a culture where beauty and how slim you are…
I see a lot of ppl commenting they are sick, or their mentality is unhealthy..etc. As a Korean myself, most women in Korea consider themselves not good enough to fit the beauty standard. This is mainly because of our highly competitive society, forcing women to compare and put themselves down. Thus it’s definitely hard to break that cycle of going on a diet and giving up, consequently feeling guilty. I realized this only after immigrating to Canada
Think TWICE I would say it’s the hard-working ethics that say been passed on through generations. South Korea was able to develop rapidly since the Korean war happened technology wise and I’d say that was due to high human population we had. It wasn’t like we had abundant natural resources such as oil, we only had our people.
Think TWICE Again I think its the competition that drives individuals to work for perfection. Cuz just doing the best you can do is not enough to survive in society. For instance, even the graduates from Seoul national univ. find themselves struggling to get a job which is quite odd since its #1 uni in Korea.
ok but why is no one talking about the fact that the blue coat girl is really cute and pretty and somehow kinda looks like bae suzy???!!! edit: woahhh first of all this is the most likes ive ever gotten so thx guyssss, second i really only wanted to compliment the girl nothing else plz dont get offended~
as a 4'11 woman it makes me so sad to see other women that are way taller that me want to reach numbers that would be difficult or dangerous even for me :/ Hell, the height - 115 operation means that my "ideal" weight would be 35kg, when a friend, 150cm tall like me, had to be hospitalized cause she reached 38kg. Its literally insane to promote something like that
i’m 4’9 and being 30 kg would kill me, im still recovering from anorexia and when i was at 42kg all my hair was falling out and i did not have a period bc i was starving i can’t imagine what would happen to me if i was 30
Same. I am 4'11 and weight 55kg.. Although I am on a healthier side,, I would still like to lose some weight but going down to 35kg would definitely be extremely dangerous and unhealthy. Its a bit stretch and extreme if everyone start thinking like koreans. I hope they find peace in how they look.
I am 5'1 and 35kg but I don't have any health issues. I sometimes wonder how people get sick. Sorry if I hurt anybody. This is not a hate comment. And I don't do any exercise or diet. I always eat to my full. Love from India🇮🇳. And also many people here in India, Arunachal Pradesh are very thin and tall like me without any health problems 😀
@Molang nah, eating too few calories can cause a major decrease in metabolism. u get thin hair, brittle nails, dry skin, sometimes depression, ongoing fatigue, continuous headache, all of ur bodies functions come to a halt or slow down dramatically to conserve energy...basically ur body is just trying not to die
@Molang that’s not even enough calories for a literal baby to survive on. you’ll never find health and happiness if you starve yourself. you can get thin while still giving your body the nutrients it needs to survive
Yes! That's crazy! How do they keep going to work/school and daily lives without eating for a day without interfering with their function? If I skip a day without/with little food I'm completely sure I'd faint, couldn't work properly at all neither
IKRRRR I was so shocked!!! They talked about it as if they were talking about how they're day was or something they didn't seem embarrassed or anything and seemed quite proud too
They don't hold foreigners to the same standard. I lived in Korea for 3 months and I am not thin! But everywhere I went they told me I was pretty. (No one commented on my body though)

This is so common in my country and many other Asian country. Commenting on someone's looks or weight is one of the go to ways to make small talk and it's sad how normalised it is. If I get offended for someone saying I look fatter since they last saw me, people would say that the problem is me.
My family is like that, it is terrible. 🥺 And my friends are like that if they see you losing weight, it will be first thing they say. So that means they see if you gain some too but don't say that. I find it all so strange and messed up. I don't notice weight first when I see person nor change of it at all if it wasn't very drastic. And even if I did I would never see it my place to point it out. If it is bigger difference they know it and I myselfe have no idea about reasions for it (esther gain or loss of weight) so I shouldn't talk about what I don't understand. And if I am worried about them I should check about how they are feeling and doing generaly in life. That is real reasion effecting weight and only important thing in all of this.
I lost weight because of beeing very depressed (and I was healthy size to begin with) and my family and basicly all my friends and people I know commented on it without me mentioning anything and congratulated me and said I look pretty. It hurts a lot.

The word "DIET" did not mean losing weight in the first place. It's supposed to point out proper nutrition. And I must say, I do apologize, but dancer or not, subtracting 115 from your height in cm to get your "ideal" weight, is a whole level of BS. Men and women alike should think like the ladies at the end of the video. EAT. Properly. Because, would you rather be skinny and dead or sick, or be at a manageable weight and happily enjoy your time with family and friends doing stuff like sports and the like? People will always have an opinion. To some "you need to lose weight"; others, "you must have an eating disorder" (which may be true). Just strive to be healthier physically and mentally. Remember that for the celebrities that we aspire to be like, they have access to resources, dieticians, fitness coaches and of course good ol' photoshop. So please please do stay healthy.
Sadly, I think it would probably be around the same ball park. Or at least, there would also need to be an accompanying test of guessing a person’s weight since they might not understand what XXkg looks like on girls. In general, individuals in Korea (any gender) are incredibly appearance-driven. I’ve had male students go on extreme diets. I’ve also had male adolescents and adults both tell me that I would look better if I were skinnier (I’m 158cm and 50kg). The problem is *systemic*.
I am shocked at how lightly they say "you need to starve yourself" "Just take diet pills" "I check my weight everyday" POOR GIRLS! EVEN GUYS PROBABLY GO THROUGH THIS! This is very saddening

As a Korean 12 year old girl , it really is quite common for even young girls to starve themselves to get the ideal body type , I'm saying this because I have done it and still do it till this day and it's not something I'm proud of , it's just I can't enjoy my food without having the thought of getting fat so I don't eat much anymore, sometimes not for days

That they assume someone who is 5'4 should weigh similarly to someone who is 5'8?
@Fischl hey idk if you know this but according to bmi the lowest healthy weight for someone of 5’8 or 173cm is 125 lbs or 55kg. How can you say I weigh a lot but then compare me to idols who are underweight?
I'm tall and would say this perception is true in the US as well. Whenever 5'2" women guess my weight, it's like 20 pounds less than what I actually weigh.
Because korea is easily influenced by their music and modeling industries. Here in the US some of the mdoels, wont say the majority, eat very healthily and exercise A LOT. Some korea might, but majority starve with VERY small portions. Like eating one apple and tea every day. Or eating only one chicken breast everyday, cutting out healthy carbs (which are bad when excessive.), or they will eat what fits into a really small cup for the entire day. This extreme dieting and expectation can lead to body dysmorphic and eating disorders, which are highly common in korea.
I think some of these girls are too focused on dieting instead of exercise and a healthy lifestyle. There are many thin models who maintain their physique through exercise and a healthy lifestyle, NOT starvation.
Please don’t assume their means of dieting is always starvation. In Asian countries a big cause of weight gain is simply portion control rather than unhealthy lifestyle. Most of our diet is whole grains, fruit, and vegetables anyways but I admit that I just eat more than I actually need.
@@gobwinning Not most. A lot of them follow diet of eating one apple and drinking tea everyday, eating only chicken, or eating only what fits into a tiny cup. Yes but from a Western perspective a lot of popular Korean men's style would be considered to be feminine. I think males are affected by these standards as well, but it isn't something I've heard discussed anywhere. Korean male body and self-image. It's worth discussing.
Bless the lady who pointed out that if you really saw girls who weigh less than 50kg/110lbs, they would mostly look like skin and bone. I imagine most celebrities exaggerate their weight to make it lower.
Actually celebrities look way skinnier than what you saw on TV because on TV you have to add 30%, you'll look stretched out. That's why celebrities are obssess n very concern about their body because they want to look attractive or 'normal' for audience

oh my god the mindset that they have drives me crazy like how can you speak about starving yourself so casually and think that’s it’s a normal thing to do...
No offense but some fats are suppose to be in your body. And what is the point of look beautiful when you can't take a punch in the gut without almost dying.😵
Korea is also one of the slimmest countries in the world. This is not only because people traditionally have a vegetarian diet, mainly eating vegetables, but it is also because of thorough self-management of their diet.
Compared to other places, south korea has really high beauty standards so even though they are fit to foreigners, they constantly beat themselves up (not literally) and call themselves fat, ugly, and unattractive even though they really aren't. They have to pay so much attention to their appearance that it's concerning, but sometimes they don't even notice if they starve themselves to fit korea's standards.
I'm guessing They re not all fit. There's a thing called skinny fat, which most of these girls are. They weigh less than the average women but Asians have smaller bone structure i believe, so in reality they could be fat. Weight means nothing a lot of the time. If they dieted and exercised they would probably weigh more but look way better. I am very insecure about the way I look not how much I weigh. These girls would be surprised how much exercising correctly and putting on a little bit of muscle could do for them
I don’t think it has been established by social media, but deeply rooted in their culture. Korean mothers don’t give their daughters as much food as they need to be on healthy bmi level, and it’s some kind of tradition that korean girls have to be skinny and the guys have to be strong
As much as I enjoy Kpop and believe me I really do, I strongly believe the Kpop industry is highly responsible for this kind of mentality.I'm not necessarily blaming the idols themselves as I know they are also victims, but I'm rather talking about the people and the companies in charge who just aim to create this image of the "perfect" looking woman/man. It is just ridiculous how slim and unhealthy some of these K-Idols look.
I absolutely agree with you. I didn't grew up in Korea (which is the most extreme example for beauty standards I guess) and STILL I don't have any female friends who are really happy with their bodies. I am so mad and also worried about girls (and boys) who have to grow up with this kind of mindset. I hope the next generations will change that.
I find it incredibly strange how some idols will crash diet and their members of the group or maybe managers wont stop them. Then you hear the after stories of "oh i did this really extreme diet for days and days and felt terrible" or they do it regularly and i just wonder, if they were weak during dance practice or felt fainy, why were the people around them not doing anything? So sad
164 - 120 is 44kg for me. The lowest weight I ever had was 47kg, and I hated it. My hip bones stuck out so much, and you could see every bump from the bones in my shoulders. I didn't realize just how underweight I had gotten until someone pointed it out to me. Don't obsess about the number on the scale. Yes, you should be a healthy weight, but it also comes down to how you look / feel energy-wise. Not everyone will look the same at the same weight, even if they share the same height.

I'm not defending them or saying it's better to starve yourself instead of losing weight in a 'healthy' way. I just wanted to share my opinion.

I think 112kg for 170cm is acutually obese so it’s good your a healthy weight now which is 60-80 kg but below 48 is impossible for your height

It’s incredibly hard to promote change especially in a culture where beauty and how slim you are…
I also really struggle with body image! Honestly, the only reason I’m not underweight right now is because of my faith! God bless
You were perfect, the whole system seems really toxic ....
But as a foreigner I find korean women pretty, and I just can't understand how those dancers can even function with skinny legs.
Kim Myungsun y’all are beautiful though there’s no need to diet
Think TWICE I would say it’s the hard-working ethics that say been passed on through generations. South Korea was able to develop rapidly since the Korean war happened technology wise and I’d say that was due to high human population we had. It wasn’t like we had abundant natural resources such as oil, we only had our people.
Think TWICE personally I think its a good trait unless it burns you out which sadly happens to a lot of young population in Korea
Think TWICE Again I think its the competition that drives individuals to work for perfection. Cuz just doing the best you can do is not enough to survive in society. For instance, even the graduates from Seoul national univ. find themselves struggling to get a job which is quite odd since its #1 uni in Korea.
I think I have no place in Korea after seeing this

My family is like that, it is terrible. 🥺
And my friends are like that if they see you losing weight, it will be first thing they say.

Because, would you rather be skinny and dead or sick, or be at a manageable weight and happily enjoy your time with family and friends doing stuff like sports and the like? A Korean girl once asked me how much I weighed and when I told her she looked mortified! Then she kept assuring me that I was much thinner than that and there is no way I could weigh that much :/ Is this a normal thing that koreans don't know what is the healthy/expected weight for someone of taller stature? That they assume someone who is 5'4 should weigh similarly to someone who is 5'8?
Late reply but…
Women in Asia are generally much shorter, the standards are based off of a woman who is from 5’2-5’5 at most I would assume.
@Fischl hey idk if you know this but according to bmi the lowest healthy weight for someone of 5’8 or 173cm is 125 lbs or 55kg. How can you say I weigh a lot but then compare me to idols who are underweight?
@Fischl You’re entirely wrong. For 5’8, 134 pounds is slim. But you’re probably just trolling. Good luck with that.
@@linahorn5877 ugh @fischl is just a pathetic troll. Ignore them.

Why? They don't need to diet, they look perfectly fine.
Yes they do look perfectly fine
It's not that easy
Because korea is easily influenced by their music and modeling industries. Here in the US some of the mdoels, wont say the majority, eat very healthily and exercise A LOT. Some korea might, but majority starve with VERY small portions. Like eating one apple and tea every day. Or eating only one chicken breast everyday, cutting out healthy carbs (which are bad when excessive.), or they will eat what fits into a really small cup for the entire day. This extreme dieting and expectation can lead to body dysmorphic and eating disorders, which are highly common in korea.
bec.. they try to fit to the koren standards
Tbh they need to GAIN weight LOL
I think some of these girls are too focused on dieting instead of exercise and a healthy lifestyle. There are many thin models who maintain their physique through exercise and a healthy lifestyle, NOT starvation.
It’s not just these girls it’s most girls in Korea
Please don’t assume their means of dieting is always starvation. In Asian countries a big cause of weight gain is simply portion control rather than unhealthy lifestyle. Most of our diet is whole grains, fruit, and vegetables anyways but I admit that I just eat more than I actually need.
@@gobwinning Not most. A lot of them follow diet of eating one apple and drinking tea everyday, eating only chicken, or eating only what fits into a tiny cup. Even keto diets, in the moment it is good, but in the long run it hurts your body massively. You need carbs, but people associate it as bad because they take in too much. Which is where portion control comes in. Most korean diets are implemented by the pop industry artists, who in fact starve themselves skinny with their small portions of only eating one thing per day.
Mini Lex truee. They crash diet, which leads to gaining all the weight back once you start eating normally. Exercise and a healthy diet is key to loosig weight and maintaining it.

Based on the videos that I've seen with Korean males, I think they don't consider it to be nearly as big of a deal as females.
Obviously men only consider face & back view rather than weight.
Yes but from a Western perspective a lot of popular Korean men's style would be considered to be feminine. I think males are affected by these standards as well, but it isn't something I've heard discussed anywhere. Korean male body and self-image. It's worth discussing.

Korea is also one of the slimmest countries in the world. This is not only because people traditionally have a vegetarian diet, mainly eating vegetables, but it is also because of thorough self-management of their diet.

agreee, i can lose 3-5 kilos on ramadhan, but then the Eid al Fitr times ruin everything, it's like i will eat everything at that time :))))
All these women are fit. I'm sick of unrealistic body image established by social media.
These girls would be surprised how much exercising correctly and putting on a little bit of muscle could do for them
That's just how it is with cultural differences, there's no rhyme or reason, it just is what it is.
I don’t think it has been established by social media, but deeply rooted in their culture. Korean mothers don’t give their daughters as much food as they need to be on healthy bmi level, and it’s some kind of tradition that korean girls have to be skinny and the guys have to be strong
And we Indian dont care too much about...it losing weight or something 😂😂😂😂😂
As much as I enjoy Kpop and believe me I really do, I strongly believe the Kpop industry is highly responsible for this kind of mentality.I'm not necessarily blaming the idols themselves as I know they are also victims, but I'm rather talking about the people and the companies in charge who just aim to create this image of the "perfect" looking woman/man. It is just ridiculous how slim and unhealthy some of these K-Idols look.
valentina yees also the whole dating thing 🤔

You are right!!!
