Really Welcome to my country , Seoul , South Korea ^^~ ♥ ~ 1,700 years ago, King Gwanggaeto, called the Great Emperor of Goguryeo, the ancestor of Korea, occupied much of the land that is now southeast Russia and northeast China. By punishing and punishing him, the king naturally took the land. But the reason Russian Putin invaded Ukraine today is absurd, because that is their territory and that is why they attacked. Is it just to start a war to recover the kingdom? Now it's time for communist countries with the same regimes, China's Xi Jinping, Russia's Putin's North Korean leader, Kim Jong-un to answer and put aside the bullshit that South Korea always loves peace. Is it right or wrong for your logic to invade? answer! Do not forget the past when Russia and China were equally defeated by Japan, Britain and France. Korea, especially Seoul, is a city that is more interesting than I imagined, fun and pretty places, locations, relatively spicy but less greasy food, and is also a very cheap, comfortable, safe and clean city. also, I'm sure you'll be able to enjoy another night view that's much more beautiful than the usual night view of Namsan Mountain and Lotte Tower in front of you. Especially, if you climb Eungbongsan Mountain and Geumhosan Mountain from Hawangsimni-dong, it is a few kilometers away between Cheonggyecheon Stream and Seoul Forest Park, and the food is very abundant. In addition, if you walk slowly for about 2 hours, you can reach Namsan Mountain from a place called Dulle-gil that starts from Maebongsan Mountain and Geumhosan Mountain. This place is very close to Gwangjang Market, Jungang Market, Geumnam Market, a food paradise filled with traditional Korean food. It is also very close to Seongsu Bridge, Hannam Bridge, and Dongho Bridge. So Gangnam Station, Apgujeong Station, Myeongdong Station, Insa-dong is very close As such, there is a superb view of the Han River at the top of Eungbongsan Mountain (81m) and Maebongsan Mountain (95m) in Seongdong-gu. Honestly bro ur such a good interviewer…u don’t judge ppl’s responses with ur reactions and u always stay respectful and open-minded to their answers and u always ask good questions❤
There needs to be more of a focus on health and letting people see the benefits vs just shaming them. It's not fair or effective to shame people. People should be healthy weight simply because they want to
Agree, and there can't be a target weight or measurement either, because each person has a different amount of fat storage and distribution throughout the body. If you exercise regularly and eat healthy, whichever weight you end up in, that's your healthy weight!
the thing is, no matter how much you conform to any standard anywhere, there will always be some way you dont fit in. we're all chasing after things we can never reach and it's exhausting. i hope people can be gentler about and around other peoples bodies. this was a really great interview
@@valancedolce7042 I’m 5ft tall and non Asian. My average weight is 110 and that’s considered chubby (I’m not lol I’m average/skinny and extremely healthy.) to get any smaller would need to starve myself so yes it’s an unrealistic standard even for a petite person
One thing that I would like to add to this debate is the possible cause of all of this. Something that has always stuck out to me is that “weighting +- 45 kg has always been considered a norm” and there is actually a plausable explanation. South Korea has had the fastest increase in average height in the past 100 years. Going from very poor to a wealthy coutry so abruptly, South Koreans are on average 15m (6inches) taller than North Koreans, who haven’t gotten taller at all. If women were 15 cm smaller a few decades ago, 40 - 50 kg would have been a healthy weight. And because the increase in height has been so abrupt, the beauty and health standards didn’t have the chance to catch up yet.
That's a good point, I'm from Finland where the same has happened, the average height has increased a lot over the years. While we don't have such a strict culture around what you should weight I've noticed that people estimate especially women to be much lighter than they actually are.
I knew some things about the diet culture in SK but it is always surprise me. Also, the things that you have to put in the dating apps sounds really crazy to me. I hope that SK can change to better in that aspect and look for their health.
@@user-cnksi223 how is that communist 🤦🏻♀️ no need to bring politics into this Idols are a toxic industry, and their purpose Is to influence people. You can't have one without the other 🤷🏻♀️
My weight was 40 kg for many years without doing anything, also I eat what I want and how much I want. But I'm shorter than this girl. Now I gain weight over the years (still under 50 kg) and like to loose some weight, because I do look chubbier... So maybe I need to do some sports now... But as an asian girl the bone structure could be different, also you weight much less if you are shorter.
made a similar comment, i would genuinely liked to know, cause the lowest weight I had was 45, and during that time I ran 15-20km daily and did additional exercises. And I'm 1 or 2 cm shorter than her.
It’s interesting too cause their food diet has a lot of fried food and carbs in it. It must be very difficult to keep up with their societal weight limits
I gained a lot of weight with the meds that I'm on and got fat shamed nearly every day by my Korean mom. I was able to lose 20 pounds but I still hear that nagging voice and I feel insecure about my body. My boyfriend always tells me that I'm his ideal body type and that I should never lose weight. He is sincere but something inside of me doesn't believe him. I hope I come to the point of being confident in my body like a couple of the girls in this video.
As a 45yo woman with an “American” build and a Korean mom, first of all I understand. Secondly, you will have to work on self-acceptance and self-love to fight all the negativity you’ve received…like active therapy type work. It won’t just happen. My husband of 16yrs tells me the same about loving me exactly how I am, and it’s still hard to believe him. We deserve better! Wishing you the best 💜
Wow how sad that you have to worry about looking extremely thin when you overcame a medical issue. Although hard, you have to realize that Korean standards are not necessarily normal or healthy....just like you also have to be very white/ivory looking..those are pretty toxic e,pectations and some bodies are just not naturally made to be size zero unless you go the unhealthy route..as long as your cholesterol levels/blood pressure is fine, dont fixate so much on the number on the scale
I heard this a lot from my korean aunts (not really my mom because she was kinda chubby but didn't care lol) and my responses to them were "I think you should gain some weight so that the the wrinkles are less noticeable." I felt bad but it shut them up and they stopped doing it so much lol. I'm not saying do so to your mom but maybe a little taste of her own medicine wouldn't be so bad (if you couldn't tell, my vindictive mother raised a vindictive daughter)
I recently came back from Seoul. In Los Angeles people tell me I look slim. In Seoul I looked (& felt!) downright obese next to all the women. Trying on clothes was also humiliating….the skirts/pants are all “Free Size” which is equivalent to Size 00/double Zero US.
America is one 9f fattest country in the world. Close to 70 percent is overweight. That means that if you are In the 30percentthey will think you are skinny sense it is less than average.
Lol free size in Korea are still too big for me even tho I’m not that skinn. Just depends on your body, I have a super small waist for exemple so everytime I try some pants, some shorts they re a bit too big unfortunately.
Tbh in the USA they r the ppl with the most average body weight so this also plays a big role I think both USA and SK have an unhealthy weight USA too chubby and korean too skinny in a concerning way
it depends on body type , east asian people mostly have tiny skeleton so even if their weight is healthy they look chubby and they don't like facial fat at all so this is why
@@ghazale1987 Medically, visceral fat easily gains in races born in cold regions. East Asians > Whites > Hispanics, Southeast Asians > Africans In this order, the more obese they are, the more likely their health will deteriorate. However, if East Asians also gain weight with muscle mass from protein, that's fine.
The only thing I could think was how incredibly fucked up it is that women there feel forced to put their weights on their dating profiles. And I feel like someone weighing 90 lbs would get blown over by a stiff breeze...
Bro you're so handsome and your fits are on point. I feel like besides this interviewing channel you have modeling gigs because you really look like a model.
I did lose a lot of weight before moving to Seoul. It wasn't about their beauty standards it was a personal goal I set for myself being a model and all that before moving over to Seoul. Overall if you want to lose weight, lose that weight. Want to gain more, go right ahead. Do what makes you happy and fulfilled for you.
@@ElinaGl For starters I wasn't very overweight. I just dropped from 66kg back to 50kg. I'm actually pretty tall 179cm. I do have tiny bits of stretch marks, however it's not from losing weight and I love them, hey it's a natural thing. If my stretch marks were on the worst side, I would've considered a cosmetic procedure. Bottomline, I do what I want with me body to be comfortable. If you struggle with them, consider a procedure.
@A I don't think OP claimed that it was easy or anyone saying it was easy. Outside of having a health condition that really inhibits your ability, it's just hard work and requires consistency. Just like a lot of things in life. Being able to keep up with a regiment you want for yourself is what sets some people apart from others.
IDK about modeling , but for normal ppl I think it more important how clothes look on you rather than your weight I have seen some really skinny actresses on red corpet and dresses look really bad on them , their body just have no proportion, from both back and front , When I was 47 kg and I am 50 kg now ,I don't really see any change in how my clothes look so I have no motivation to go back to 47kg even thought that what's trendy nowadays and ppl around me bragging ab their 40something weight
Sometimes I think about going to S Korea, and when it happens one of the first thoguhts that come in my mind is "oh, if I go there, I need to lose weight asap". I've been trying to be more generous to myself and to my body, and trying to change the focus of my diet to being healthy rather than losing weight, but many times it is hard. And even though that one girl said nowadays people are just trying to be healthy, when she said she was 160cm and weighted 42kg I was shocked. I'm 150cm and I think I weighted that little only when I was 14/15, so that's a little discouraging. Truth be told, I believe that before going to Korea, anyone who is a little overweight (or not since the girl that lived in Toronto said people consider her chubby) should really reaaly work on their self esteem before living there
The extreme focus on physical appearance & weight in S Korea baffles me. I truly feel sympathetic towards anyone in the entertainment field as Netizens can be so blunt and cruel. They have no compunction but to annihilate one's appearance. Sad... Another great topic, Jerry!
When that one girl said “dieting is important” to maintain her weight it’s actually a bad thing… I’ve taken a class in college and a professional nutritionist mentioned that dieting is actually not healthy cuz it usually consists of cutting out certain foods that have nutrients that u need in ur body so it usually entails u not eating enough of a certain nutrient
yes! dieting for long periods of time or extreme diets are really bad for your overall health. your metabolism tends to slow down after a while of dieting too which is why you need breaks and maintenance periods before getting back to that same schedule. a lot of people try to restrict themselves lower and diet harder after seeing a plateau. it sucks that more people dont know about this and how to diet SAFELY.
No one's talking about bone structure. It's a huge factor when determining healthy weight range. To illustrate just how much, my friend is shorter than me but with thicker bones. If she weighed what I weigh she'd be severely underweight, whereas I certainly am not too skinny. The same weight looks different on different people, even if they are the same height, because bones can physically take up more or less space. Asians typically have a smaller bone structure than Westerners, as well as being shorter on average. With this in mind, 40-50 kg for a smalled boned female is fine
stuff like this makes me happy to be living in America😭nobody judges you about your weight or tell u to lose weight unless it’s family…they love thick girls here hahaha
As an outsider, I think america has the opposite problem, because being skinny is considered not attractive, since the beauty standard is having a big but, thick thighs and boobs. There are women that are naturally slim, and the fitness industry targets them with fitness plans to gain weight... The same way a person that naturally has more fat can't healthily achieve a low body fat %, a naturally skinny person can't healthily or easily achieve a higher body fat % or a lot of muscle 🤷🏻♀️
@@auricia201 tbh i think both are a beauty standard here…i know a lot of people who love skinny girls and i know a lot of ppl who love bigger girls…America has no set beauty standard which is good cuz it means everyone is beautiful in their own way..but i do think big butts are definitely in style more than anything…whether you’re skinny or bigger, guys prefer a big ass..
@@tyliyahchambers7031 of course there are men that prefer one or the other. In Korea too. But a beauty standard is the general idea that the country and social media promotes. And from the outside, I can see that it is still the thick girl that is promoted Obviously that will change with timw, as with all trends. Heroin chic existed and will eventually come back
@yoctavian okay? So why do they have to come to Asia periodically for hospital treatment? And most Asians are afraid to go to America because of drugs and guns. Recently, it has been a trend for Asian Americans to learn self-defense techniques. The reason Asians go to America is money. America has a lot of money, Asia has a lot of talent. This is why the United States has been so successful as an immigration country.
@@user-cnksi223 that is exactly my point. but then again, it's a different country from what i'm used to... different beauty standards, we have a lot of fat people over here... but not america fat tho
@@Waryfuls Bro... This is also where ordinary people live haha Actually, men don't like women who are too skinny like that. you know what i mean? hahah where u from?
Yep. To some Asian countries it is. My Japanese friend complimented my body. He said he doesn’t like thin girls and likes chubby girls like me. I was perhaps 5lbs heavier than the girl in this video. I just laughed because nobody has ever called me chubby before.
I work as a hotel receptionist so I met a lot of people from different countries. And people from Japan, Korea, and China consider that I'm a bit chubby. My height is 166 cm and my weight is around 55 - 56 kg and to be honest I think I'm prettier compared to when I weigh around 48 - 50 kg. When I was 48 - 50 kg, it's true that I can put on any clothes and it looks really good on me (on the outside) but when I took off my shirts, the rib cage was too obvious to see and I don't like the way I look back in the day. Funny thing is, even tho it's just a 5 - 6 kg difference but some people, mostly Asian think I need to lose some more weight. It is really toxic and btw I don't wanna be that skinny.
You are not chubby at all I'm 167cm and when I was 56kg i thought i was skinny😂😂😂 I didn't feel like I was thick or anything so i can imagine how you look like 😊 don't take it to ❤️ 😊
@@sarasri11 Thank you! I know that I'm not chubby and I don't feel anything when anyone else says that. I only feel empathy for women in those countries because they need to be thin to fit their standards. It's just sad.
Oh we are the same stats for me I liked it the best when I was that range but it wasn’t manageable for long term 😢 so now I’m thinking I’ll be happy with maybe 52-53 but I’m not sure I’m my own worst critic
This is a scary and sad video - and the comments are a literal dumpster fire. People need to literally wake up and stop harassing others for having a different body type. Shout out to the girl with the door knockers tho 🥰
wow its good to hear that korea is moving forward and accepting bigger bodies now.. but im jealous because in my country i feel like we are going the opposite way and every girl needs to be skinny. I think its because scandinavian fashion is extremely popular in norway now and a lot of girls are wearing low waisted pants and skirts, which is often used by people who have flat stomachs and skinny legs :')
i weigh 50 kg and im 156 cm, according to bmi, im average/healthy. in the u.s. that is an average weight but when i go to korea, everyone always talks about how i'd be more "pretty" if i lost 10 kgs and says how "healthy" i look and chubby. and in malls, most of the clothes are one sized, i fit into a small in the u.s. but i have to buy medium sized when im in korea.
Foreigner girls: "Yeah, I don't know. Don't really think about it much. I just do me" Korean girls: "Well, according to the latest standards and figures, and given my currents dietary and physical stats, I'd say..."
Homegirl that mentioned Toronto is very attractive. She's more attractive than like 99% of native Korean women I've seen. It's insane to me she would be considered on the chubby side and not automatically be looked at as super hot over there. But it seems in Korea they have a very rigid beauty standard combined with a high pressure to conform.
The only thing that hasn’t surprised me is the walking thing. I like to walk and in my country (Mediterranean) we walk especially in the big cities. It’s pretty normal I thing!
All of these women are beautiful in their own way.baeuty is in the eyes of the beholder, so the first person to see our beauty is each individual. Stop allow others society or whom ever,to set the standards of who you need to be.
I honestly feel bad for these women. I'm a man and big into fitness myself, and some of these very lean and fit looking women saying that they've been told to lose weight or that they're chubby is really bizarre. Hopefully someday soon there will be some pop culture influencers in Korea that are brave enough to deviate from that strict standard...so that the society can loosen up a bit.
It's so unfair putting so much pressure on women and none on men. In my country I'm considered underweigh. But it's genetical, I just cannot put on weigh as much as I eat (1,70/52kg).
@@ZalemMoon they gotta have a great job, make a big profit, and be a responsible provider, but you seem to care just about the beauty standards which proves why you should AT THE VERY LEAST be good looking, cuz at the end of the day, that's all you can offer... I'm glad they behave like that, because of all the people who idolize their society
I used to live in Korea and now that I live in North America, the beauty standards are very different!! in North America I am average weight, but if I was to go to Korea again, I think I would be considered chubby. Koreas beauty standards are really rough 😢
To be honest I'd would have liked to have this kind of motivation to lose weight and be fit. I was fat since I was a child because I didn't felt pressed to lose weight even if I heard from others that I’m fat. Now I regret it. I've tried to lose weight 2 years ago with diet and workouts and I lost 8 kg but it wasn't enough and it was the most I could loose cause I'm not used to eating healthy and working out so I gave up after I reached 57 kg (which is the least I've ever had. Even when I was 11 I had 58 kg). I thought I can at least mentain this weight but now I'm getting fat again. If I had a diffrent lifestyle when I was younger it wouldn't be so hard for me now to be skinny. If I'm trying to eat less I end up eating even more. I always need external motivation in order to do things or to be pushed from the back but nobody is putting pressure on me to loose weight because they think I look ok but I don't feel ok. The only reason why I could loose weight 2 yrs ago was because my aunt was also trying to loose weight and there were skinny gitls in my class and seeing them made me feel not hungry anymore but now that I graduated and I stay home most of the time I don't have motivation anymore :(
I am 5'4 115 pounds 51kg I have been this weight since I was 16 I am 31 I don't diet but I struggle to keep my stomach tight when I gain weigh thighs hips butt are the only ones affected . My limbs are really strong and athletic so the rest I have to maintain myself
I do weight 40kg height 5'1 ft. It's considered super thin in my country tho. You'll be bullied too. Any weight you might have I think you just have to accept yourself as is as long as you are healthy, happy and living well. ♡
Korean/Chinese/Japanese girls’ facial structures are not as prominent as western girls ( high nose , cheek bone etc ). Therefore, In my humble opinion, only when they are skinny , their facial features look more defined. I m Chinese girl with flat nose, small eyes & square face . At UK size 10, my face is chubby 😢
My daughter is 5.5 and she is 34 kg she is 15. We are in the U.K. she is considered underweight. She does eat but is very fussy and she doesn’t eat junk food.
This was kind of distuebing but not surprising from seeing how tiny k-pop idols and actresses are. To the woman trying to maintain 92 pounds when she is 5' 3 I weighed slightly more than that as a 14 year old and its so thin.
Broooo the weight in Korea scares me…. Like am naturally petite and short at 5’1 and am like 115 lbs 😢😢 88-92 lbs is crazy…. Guess I would be chubby in Korea wtf. I feel like 130 lbs in the US is a normal weight for most women
Why do I need to fit in their beauty standard...I dont like korean kind of skinny and pale skinned people but they prefer being pale and skinny... beauty has different dimensions and we can't tie them in a frame...
The young lady in black is beautiful - she needs tell whoever says she is fat its none of their business and to get a life instead of criticizing others.
i'm 5'10 and the thought of being in the 40s or even 50s kg range is such a foreign thought to me! I've been from about 69-71 my whole life, and I'm a very healthy weight right now, many people I know even call me skinny!
There are literally studies on what the most attractive BMI is for women and the standard is indeed different from western compared to east asian countries
This beauty standard stuff in Korean will always remain in Korean and ends in Korean except they start becoming expose. Reason be that, 90% of countries in the world don't care about specific beauty standards and when it comes to most men what they care about is the woman's heart and if they love her they're both good to go. Many countries don't care about the color of skin neither because as long as you're good in the job, you're beautiful in your unique ways then you're good to go. It's only in Asia countries that have this habit of specific beauty standards like being skinny and pale skin, you must be very fair or white looks before you'll be considered beautiful. And if they should leave their comfort zone to other countries in the world they'll realize that they're too skinny and their standard beauty is really not what they think that it's when they're in Korean.
No way...I'm 157 cm and 71 kg and I'm sexy......and the girl said what? 42-43 kg? They are crazy....once I was 51 kg and I looked like a skeleton....and they say 45 kg max.....that's distrophia....
I'm an American female, 37, with diabetes, and mental illness/cognitive issues. I'm 200 pounds. How did this happen? Medicine and not being able to regulate what I should eat and what I feel in my brain with the meds and diabetes. Not only, but the brain damage did not help anything. I have no idea why that is a factor. Asian women make fun of me for being fat. They did when I was in Thailand especially. I weighed 110 then and was mostly muscle. I'm a short and small build, minus my shoulders. I'm joining a program again with people in it, where it can be a competition and teamwork. I'm going to ask the courts if they'll have the arm thing that tells you your sugar levels. Do I care how I look? Sometimes. I live in an adult facility. My average blooming was too much for the US.
It's pretty crazy to hear that girl being my height (5'2) and weighing 41 kgs. That is a straight up anorexia. I'm over here trying to reach at least 50 kgs with some muscle build cuz I know I'll look healthier and it's crazy to hear other women aiming to weight even less than I currently do.
Im 156cm (like 5'1 ?) And i weight 41-42, I used to weight more, tho rn i wouldnt say its hard to keep it like this. Maybe the girl is naturally skinny idk, it isnt necessarily anorexia
@shara3114 I know that people are naturally skinny, I am too. I used to weigh 44 in 2020. But that doesn't mean it's healthy. And yes, according to your BMI you would be underweight. Especially since you're not even toned and you don't carry any muscle. Getting enough calories in, doing strength training and gaining healthy weight is extremely beneficial. Even for your skin, your hair, your bones, your hormonal balance, for everything. Just saying "meh, I'm naturally like that" doesn't mean a thing. It doesn't mean it's healthy.
I rmb when I was 44-45kg and 157cm some random guys in my country told me to my face how flat im everywhere 💀 I my country the beauty stantard is to have some curves. It wasnt healthy weight for me tough cuz I had severe hairloss and my perioids stopped coming.
Depends on the body structure. I'm also asian and a bit shorter and used to weight 40 kg for many years. Didn't look too skinny. Now I'm gain more weight (still under 50 kg, maybe 48 kg) and I do look chubby and like to loose weight (at least till 45 kg). But this girl in this video looks skinny, but normal for korean standards (like the actresses in kdramas).
I am Old School Asian meaning I lived in Asian during the 80's and 90's and being 41 and 42kg was totally normal even for people 5'5 and 5'6. All my Asian relatives are 5'4 and above and no one weighed more than 50kg. If you know Asian Culture, it's all about social eating with friends and family as much as possible....in frequency and quantity. My family members who were 44kg and around 5'5 all lived all into old age, physically capable and no health issue while looked very youthful. One common thing about a lot of Old School Asians is their lack of love for any food Western. When I visited Japan in 2010, my cousin and her two friends came with me on a Taiwan and Hong Kong trip. We were in our late 20's to 30's and let me tell you, they pressured me to eat breakfast, street food, lunch, snack, street food, dinner, snack, mid night dinner.....all consisted of greasy, fried, battered, and varieties of anything you can imagine. We also tried a lot to Asian Bakery Sweets like Pineapple bun and pastries. That is a far cry behaviour from anorexia and yet none of us weighed more than 45kg and no one went to the gym during our 14 days trip. No one gained weight and I think it's partially due to 6 hours outdoor walking daily. Asian culture boasts with food and expects everyone to eat while stay naturally skinny, that is the only thing I think is unrealistic. More and more Asians these days eat Western Fusion food and consume a ton of sweets and I think that's why the overall weight is increasing. People back in my generation rarely heard of high blood pressure, diabetes and high cholesterol but these days it's common even with the youth. The increase of weight comes with actual health complications, not the other way around.
My bf is from korea and has never had to put effort into maintaining his weight. Hes coming to the gym with me this weekend, and im thoroughly looking forward to breaking his ass off. I work really hard for the body ive gotten. Im about 163 cm (5'4) and 60 kg (132.8 lbs). Ive lost almost 60 pounds since april and ive worked my ass off to get here. If my bf ever told me to be skinnier or put more effort in, id just tell him that he has no room to talk until he is willing to do the same. Its not necessarily about weight. Its about lifestyle.
I am 1.76cm and 70kgs but I look very thin its crazy my genetics are strange,I am Serbian btw❤ my arms and legs are very long so I look thinner even with 70kgs
I'm European (German) and I honestly share the Korean beauty standard of weight. In my opinion, 55kg is my upper mark of acceptable and 60kg or above is obese to me. However, I am of course not the general human opinion, so when people have a different opinion than mine it's totally fine. Just wanted to share my acceptance of their ideal weight. ^^
I gained a lot of weight because of an ovaric benign tumour. I used to hate myself, and deep down I am still hoping to lose all the weight I gained after the surgery. I’m a tiny bit overweight, but to the point that I’m still healthy in regards to that. I am studying Korean, but this unhealthy obsession with their weight makes me a bit scared in going.
Every country has their pros and cons and everyone has different experiences for Korea. The tip I can share is, don’t overhype Korea because it’s possible to be disappointed. Instead just be open that it does have its cons
I wonder if they ever look at someone thinks she looks skinny but then when they find out her weight they think she not because it doesn’t meet the standard there. It’s weird that they don’t consider height. I’m trying to lose weight and my goal is to get back the weight when I started college. I would still would want to lose some weight after that but to which I’m not sure, it depends how it looks like. They should also consider bone density. I’m around 5’5 or 5’6 so my first goal go back to 120
As a korean girl, even if I wanted to be fat my genes literally won't let me. I'll be somewhat chubby (highest bmi is 21) but honestly I'll probably have to forcefeed myself an uncomfortable amount if I want to gain weight/fat
I used to live in Uijongbu back in 1999 to 2000, and at 5’-11” and 175 lbs, I was HUGE compared to most people in that city.😂 I’d go to the seamstress, and she’d look at me and say, “Ooooh, you SO big! You no gain weight!”😂 I bought the largest size underwear they had at the underground mall there, and I couldn’t even pull them up over my calves. 😂 I only saw 1 fat person in that city in an entire year. I actually admired the Korean diet and the way the elders would be up at 0500 hours walking up the mountains whilst we soldiers were running. But as in everything, you can overdo it. You can be too thin just like you can be too fat. The middle way is best.
Their beauty standards are definitely unrealistic for a lot of us taller women with European genetics. It's sad that some of them can't even make that designation. Like at 5'11, you weren't huge, you were proportionally bigger.
If u think of it tho it’s messed up that the ideal weight in Korea is that low cuz health-wise being skinny is just as bad so the fact that it’s a beauty standard is quite unhealthy
Yep! Being underweight can have equal negative effects that being obese brings. Being severely underweight (BMI 16 or lower) is equal and POSSIBLY even worse than stage 1 morbid obesity.
4:55 That happens everywhere, westerners say it only happens in Asian countries but it's not true, men are the first to judge women's weight and something that blows my mind is how men are only about looks and women accept men whatever they look, like, if you are in a relationship (not with a high-value man of course) and you gain weight, guys will be the first to point that out, but if your boyfriend gains weight, you'd never say anything about it or tell him he needs to lose weight. It's sad, really.
People in korea actually don't actually like very skinny people, but the society is so strict with "beauty standards" that they barely have no choice but to fit in... I'm 167cm for 70kg and people always tell me I'm beautiful here so.... Really food interview though !
Im 160cm x 63kg, I'm losing weight and my goal is 48kg, but seeing that girl who's the same height as me being 41-43kg 😭🤓 still, I don't want to be underweight, so I won't lose more than that
я вешу 40кг при росте 160, это мой обычный вес без диет. я родилась худой / I weigh 40kg with a height of 160, this is my usual weight without dieting. I was born thin.

Really Welcome to my country , Seoul , South Korea ^^~ ♥ ~
1,700 years ago, King Gwanggaeto, called the Great Emperor of Goguryeo, the ancestor of Korea, occupied much of the land that is now southeast Russia and northeast China.
Welcome to Seoul, the capital of South Korea ^^~ ♥ ~

Unlike famous places that are already known around the world, such as Namsan Tower, Lotte Tower, Hongdae, Gangnam, etc., I would like to introduce you to places that are less known but more wonderful
It is Eungbongsan Park in Seongdong-gu

There are a myriad of relatively less well-known places in Seoul, which are much more dynamic, fun, and so pretty than the famous places already known in the world. Korea, especially Seoul, is a city that is more interesting than I imagined, fun and pretty places, locations, relatively spicy but less greasy food, and is also a very cheap, comfortable, safe and clean city.
also,
I'm sure you'll be able to enjoy another night view that's much more beautiful than the usual night view of Namsan Mountain and Lotte Tower in front of you. So Gangnam Station, Apgujeong Station, Myeongdong Station, Insa-dong is very close
As such, there is a superb view of the Han River at the top of Eungbongsan Mountain (81m) and Maebongsan Mountain (95m) in Seongdong-gu. What's more interesting is that the distance between the two is only 3.1 kilometers by car and 2.4 kilometers by foot.

Honestly bro ur such a good interviewer…u don’t judge ppl’s responses with ur reactions and u always stay respectful and open-minded to their answers and u always ask good questions❤
show me interviewers who does that things
He also said " What are your stats-You don't have to answer you don't have to answer!" I love his respect
There needs to be more of a focus on health and letting people see the benefits vs just shaming them. It's not fair or effective to shame people. People should be healthy weight simply because they want to
looks very effective
Agree, and there can't be a target weight or measurement either, because each person has a different amount of fat storage and distribution throughout the body.
If you exercise regularly and eat healthy, whichever weight you end up in, that's your healthy weight!
healthy is the best
alhamduliallah
the thing is, no matter how much you conform to any standard anywhere, there will always be some way you dont fit in. we're all chasing after things we can never reach and it's exhausting. i hope people can be gentler about and around other peoples bodies. this was a really great interview
It’s utterly crazy that 50kgs is considered chubby…. Korea is raising and supporting generations of unrealistic and unhealthy standards.
That's not true nowadays. That was like 10 years ago. Nowadays they like more fit and healthy looking.
Completely agree with you. It's sick! In any other country 50 kg is slim and more than normal...
Ikr
The idols alone have a weight of height-115=kg or even 120
So very underweight and concerning
I think height-110 is the lowest they should be
you realize east asians are shorter on average so they will weight less....
@@valancedolce7042 I’m 5ft tall and non Asian. My average weight is 110 and that’s considered chubby (I’m not lol I’m average/skinny and extremely healthy.) to get any smaller would need to starve myself so yes it’s an unrealistic standard even for a petite person
I love the calm demeanour of the interviewer.
Confidence is key yet deep down we all know being "in shape" can open so many doors in today's society.
yeah. in shape not deadly skinny that’s ridiculous. Just be confidant and laugh at ppl calling you fat for it 😂
One thing that I would like to add to this debate is the possible cause of all of this.
Maybe the brain didn't catch up too because of starvation and too much time for college entrance 😢
That's a good point, I'm from Finland where the same has happened, the average height has increased a lot over the years. While we don't have such a strict culture around what you should weight I've noticed that people estimate especially women to be much lighter than they actually are.
very wise
@@O.Oxximsly each individual brain? Lol
I knew some things about the diet culture in SK but it is always surprise me. Also, the things that you have to put in the dating apps sounds really crazy to me.

my soul left the body when she said 41-42 kg.. even if you're a bit shorter... HOW. Even starving yourself... how does she sustain her body functions
@@NguyenThiNgocHa88 bit of a weird flex but okay❤️🙏🏻
TBH she doesn't look terribly underweight like Eugenia Cooney or something. I think east asian skeletons might also weigh less but I might be wrong.
And I'm 1 or 2 cm shorter than her.
bruh i weight 41 kg and have no period 😭 i wonder if she has her period..i can’t gain weight, idk why she was so chill abt that. ridiculous
It’s interesting too cause their food diet has a lot of fried food and carbs in it. It must be very difficult to keep up with their societal weight limits
In reality, there are more ordinary women in Korea.
You can eat whatever you like and not gain weight, really. It's about the quantity you consume, not so much the quality..
I think you’re focusing on street food. Everyday Korean food has lots of protein and vegetables.
And at least in my experience, high sodium which causes bloating
Although hard, you have to realize that Korean standards are not necessarily normal or healthy....just like you also have to be very white/ivory looking..those are pretty toxic e,pectations and some bodies are just not naturally made to be size zero unless you go the unhealthy route..as long as your cholesterol levels/blood pressure is fine, dont fixate so much on the number on the scale
you're Koreans crazy
5'8 68 kgs, my preferred woman should be 5'2 to 5'8 maybe 6'0😅😂. Expect them to be petite, slim or thick. No fat bitches..
It's because average people in US are overweight so they thought you're slim
Lol free size in Korea are still too big for me even tho I’m not that skinn.
Just depends on your body, I have a super small waist for exemple so everytime I try some pants, some shorts they re a bit too big unfortunately.
Tbh in the USA they r the ppl with the most average body weight so this also plays a big role
I think both USA and SK have an unhealthy weight
USA too chubby and korean too skinny in a concerning way
the standards are simply unrealisitc bruh, im 158cm and weigh 49kg and ppl here still would find me not skinny enough
You are skinny enough even in Korea 😊
it depends on body type , east asian people mostly have tiny skeleton so even if their weight is healthy they look chubby and they don't like facial fat at all so this is why
@@ghazale1987It's a matter of body fat percentage, not bone structure.
@@ghazale1987 Medically, visceral fat easily gains in races born in cold regions.

I did lose a lot of weight before moving to Seoul. It wasn't about their beauty standards it was a personal goal I set for myself being a model and all that before moving over to Seoul. Overall if you want to lose weight, lose that weight. Want to gain more, go right ahead. Do what makes you happy and fulfilled for you.
how do you deal with stretch marks ? :(
@@ElinaGl For starters I wasn't very overweight.
Truth be told, I believe that before going to Korea, anyone who is a little overweight (or not since the girl that lived in Toronto said people consider her chubby) should really reaaly work on their self esteem before living there
Dang she is 5’3 and trying to maintain 92lbs. Meanwhile I’m shorter than her and I’m trying to get down to 110lbs.
The extreme focus on physical appearance & weight in S Korea baffles me. I truly feel sympathetic towards anyone in the entertainment field as Netizens can be so blunt and cruel. They have no compunction but to annihilate one's appearance. Sad... Another great topic, Jerry!

Average Korean girl is 57kg.
looks is ironically related to your health.. and anorexia isn't healthy nor is it considered attractive in any place outside korea/japan.
This was a good discussion I believe that health is wealth 💪🏾😎 everyone should strive to be healthy and strong 💪🏾
The well endowed girl with the pink drink is the self embodiment of positive body image. I like her!
stuff like this makes me happy to be living in America😭nobody judges you about your weight or tell u to lose weight unless it’s family…they love thick girls here hahaha
As an outsider, I think america has the opposite problem, because being skinny is considered not attractive, since the beauty standard is having a big but, thick thighs and boobs.
There are women that are naturally slim, and the fitness industry targets them with fitness plans to gain weight...

Good on you for doing what makes you happy.
This is a scary and sad video - and the comments are a literal dumpster fire. People need to literally wake up and stop harassing others for having a different body type. Shout out to the girl with the door knockers tho 🥰
50kg is about 110 lbs. I'm 5'2" and when I was 110 lbs, I was really skinny. I would still have been chubby for Korea.....at a size 2 U.S dress size🤨
wow its good to hear that korea is moving forward and accepting bigger bodies now.. but im jealous because in my country i feel like we are going the opposite way and every girl needs to be skinny. I think its because scandinavian fashion is extremely popular in norway now and a lot of girls are wearing low waisted pants and skirts, which is often used by people who have flat stomachs and skinny legs :')
This guy is extremely good at what he does.
i weigh 50 kg and im 156 cm, according to bmi, im average/healthy.
in the u.s. that is an average weight but when i go to korea, everyone always talks about how i'd be more "pretty" if i lost 10 kgs and says how "healthy" i look and chubby.
and in malls, most of the clothes are one sized, i fit into a small in the u.s. but i have to buy medium sized when im in korea.
Foreigner girls: "Yeah, I don't know. Don't really think about it much. I just do me"
Korean girls: "Well, according to the latest standards and figures, and given my currents dietary and physical stats, I'd say..."
The interviewer has a nice and calming voice.
I have 165 cm and when I was 48 kg I lost my menstruation...so no thanx.
It's so unfair putting so much pressure on women and none on men. In my country I'm considered underweigh. But it's genetical, I just cannot put on weigh as much as I eat (1,70/52kg).
You're saying men don't have that much pressure? Lol
@@manciajr2805 yes
3:58 that's insane 😟
she is a paranoid liar.....I'm 165cm and 57kg and people think I'm normal. Or people around me sometimes say I'm skinny

as a Korean I'd say Being overweight seems less healthy than being thin.
2:52 & 5:28 💯 Love their responses!
I do weight 40kg height 5'1 ft. It's considered super thin in my country tho. You'll be bullied too. Any weight you might have I think you just have to accept yourself as is as long as you are healthy, happy and living well. ♡
that's not healthy at all
@@bea380 yeah I agree too ~
Korean/Chinese/Japanese girls’ facial structures are not as prominent as western girls ( high nose , cheek bone etc ).
The interviewer is so beautiful ❤ you should consider modeling there 🎉
The standart in my country is the fucking worst. Aunties called my 46kg mom fat when she was TWENTY
I can't imagine any man cares as much about weight numbers as much as women do.
The Canadian girl is so pretty and looks very ideal considering the KBS. Her nose reminded me of Heejin.
Why do I need to fit in their beauty standard...I dont like korean kind of skinny and pale skinned people but they prefer being pale and skinny... beauty has different dimensions and we can't tie them in a frame...
So korean standards is to weight as much as a 14 year old?
Yeah, American burger-fed 14-year-old.
The young lady in black is beautiful - she needs tell whoever says she is fat its none of their business and to get a life instead of criticizing others.
she literally looks the healthiest she is slim but still have curves so fat storage to have a good hormonal health
2:38 her voice is so pretty and she is super pretty as well
OMG CANDIEEEEE!!! You're on my TH-cam 😱💜
i'm 5'10 and the thought of being in the 40s or even 50s kg range is such a foreign thought to me! I've been from about 69-71 my whole life, and I'm a very healthy weight right now, many people I know even call me skinny!
There is nothing called 'beauty standard'. Beauty comes in all shapes and sizes. And colours.
There are literally studies on what the most attractive BMI is for women and the standard is indeed different from western compared to east asian countries
@k explorer:
You need to put an "end" to your videos, they end to abruptly.
Like a link to other of your videos for example.
Exactly. They should leave their country and get a wake up call. This is insane and extremely unhealthy
Being slim, pale, plastic surgery being the norm…I would’ve hated to be a teenager or child in Korea.
No way...I'm 157 cm and 71 kg and I'm sexy......and the girl said what? 42-43 kg? They are crazy....once I was 51 kg and I looked like a skeleton....and they say 45 kg max.....that's distrophia....
You should do one also for men
He’s really stylish I’m on this channel not only for my English but also for a reference for how I dress
In my country, when you weigh 40kg, you're locked up in mental hospital for anorexia
The first girl voice is everything
The girl with the glasses from toro is fine!!! She doesn’t need to loose weight!! Why Koreans like bones!! ?
My bf is from korea and has never had to put effort into maintaining his weight. Hes coming to the gym with me this weekend, and im thoroughly looking forward to breaking his ass off. I work really hard for the body ive gotten. Im about 163 cm (5'4) and 60 kg (132.8 lbs). Ive lost almost 60 pounds since april and ive worked my ass off to get here. If my bf ever told me to be skinnier or put more effort in, id just tell him that he has no room to talk until he is willing to do the same. Its not necessarily about weight. Its about lifestyle.
2:52 I love this answer here.
I'm erasing SK from my list 😂
Lmao🤣🤣

I wonder if they ever look at someone thinks she looks skinny but then when they find out her weight they think she not because it doesn’t meet the standard there. It’s weird that they don’t consider height. I’m trying to lose weight and my goal is to get back the weight when I started college. I would still would want to lose some weight after that but to which I’m not sure, it depends how it looks like. They should also consider bone density. I’m around 5’5 or 5’6 so my first goal go back to 120
I was struck by the lack of consideration for height too. Perhaps because so few people are above 5'4 there?
@@KatieBellino I think bone structure should be consider.
@@tvtvtfan3767 Absolutely. A lot of Koreans have a super small bone structure, but a lot of Europeans and Africans have to weigh more to be healthy.
How many days did these interviews take?. I see the many outfit changes lol
I was wondering the same thing 😂
i wonder if some koreans are naturally skinny vs dieting to be skinny. They might still be healthy?
Just thinking out loud, but I'm sure there are naturally skinny ones the same way there are naturally chubby ones, or small, or tall 🤷🏻♀️
The red hair ♥️
Hahahha, I have not heard the term " titty" for breasts in a looooong time. That is an old school term. LOL
It's sad, really.
so interesting
People in korea actually don't actually like very skinny people, but the society is so strict with "beauty standards" that they barely have no choice but to fit in... I'm 167cm for 70kg and people always tell me I'm beautiful here so.... Really food interview though !
Im 160cm x 63kg, I'm losing weight and my goal is 48kg, but seeing that girl who's the same height as me being 41-43kg 😭🤓 still, I don't want to be underweight, so I won't lose more than that
161cm and 48kg here and I wouldn't recommend this, because of my low weight I lost my period. You dont need to go that low
