  • Hari Merdeka, or 'Independence Day' in English, is celebrated on the 31st August every year, it's the day that in 1957 the federation of Malaya gained independence from the British Empire. In this video we go to see the parade that is held in Merdeka Square in Kuala Lumpur and it was amazing! Everyone was waving the Malaysian flag as everyone from athletes, to the army, to police horses paraded through the street, and the atmosphere was incredible!
Hari Merdeka, also known as Hari Kebangsaan 'National Day', is not to be confused with 'Malaysia Day', which is celebrated on the 16th of September every year, which commemorates the formulation of Malaysia as we know today.
Did you go to the parade, how did you celebrate Hari Merdeka? What was your favourite float? Let us know in the comments below!

Looked amazing! From our apartment we've been seeing the aircraft practicing all week which as been really cool. It's a shame we weren't in KL for the parade but it is brilliant seeing it via your video! Nice one! - Thomas and Sheena

There are a lot of big festivals in Malaysia most notably,
Hari Raya Aidilfitri - A lot of open houses in a lot of place
Thaipusam - Huge parade near Batu Caves
Chingay Festival - Ginormous parade in Johor
For the Borneo side, there are Pesta Kaamatan and Gawai Day

If you wanna try a good Nasi Kandar in KL... Go to Restoran Kudu Bin Abdul..located in Jalan Tuanku Abdul Rahman...u can find it in Google Maps..nearest LRT station is Sultan Ismail and for Monorail is Medan Tuanku.. about 500 meters walking distance.. Be early say 11.30am...there is a long queue..

1- Merdeka day (31st August 1957) independence day of Malaya which is commonly known as Malay Peninsular.
2- Malaysia day (16th Sept 1964 Sabah Sarawak joining Peninsular Malay and create New country which is Malaysia)

It's super fun to watch your videos! 😍 I've never been to the dataran merdeka during merdeka so it's nice to have to experience it through your video! 😂
Here some of my good food recommendations :
    1) Nasi Kandar Yaseem, Jalan TAR (near dataran merdeka)
If you go here make sure to order "nasi putih, kuah campur and ayam kicap or ayam goreng)
    2) if you want a good mamak, you can go to Restoran Rasyid just opposite to Ampang Puteri Hospital
The dal bean sauce is super good plus try the roti naan! The bomb
    Hope this helps! ❤️

Thank you for sharing this video, loved the atmosphere you captured.. I hear that they have rejuvenated the river not too far from where you were at. Its at the confluence of two rivers near Masjid Jamek mosque (at the masjid jamek lrt station stop) & called the river of life project. Perhaps you could check it out. Heard its nice esp at night :)
