Angelina can dominate any song she wants, but this is where she truly crushes them. This is where and when her old soul lived the last time around. This is Angelina in her element. It’s both magical and beautiful. Her parents named her well.

Angelina put so much soul into this one. I think James Brown would be proud. One thing that I always loved about this one is how effortlessly she does it. She just stands up there and delivers this as easily as if she was singing in her bedroom. Even with a full military band behind her and owns the stage. I also really like how she is able to add so much impact to the vocal by playing with the pronunciations of words and the changing up the timing on certain lines. It all adds so much "angelina" to the song that you would think that it was her song.
Rusty, I’m a huge Angelina fan and I love her version of this song but I have a question for you. What do you attribute her getting the lyrics to this song wrong? It isn’t just this performance but in all of her performances. I still love it but was something I noticed.
@@davidarmstrong1219 I think I have listened to all her stuff so many times that I might be able to list every mispronounced or wrong word from every performance she has ever done. So I'm curious which lyrics you are talking about in this one? I know in the end of this one she repeats the same line twice, but she doesn't do that on the album version. I don't know if I am familiar enough with _every_ word of the original here, but I thought it was just that part at the end.
Edit: ...and lets not forget this is a 12 year old up there in front of hundreds of people with a full military band behind her. Put 12 year old you or me up there, and I bet we would do a lot more than miss a few words ;)

You are correct that on the It's Magic recording she doesn't repeat the wilderness line but she does repeat it in the Kongsberg Jazz Festival performance. I believe all the other changes are on both the Kongsberg performance and the It's Magic recording.
Rusty she is delightfully crazy. She just can't help herself. I love it.
@@davidarmstrong1219 I'm guessing you are simply noticing her system of preparation, which is not to memorize the lyrics phonetically, but to develop her own understanding of what they are saying, then depend on her memory only for the meaning, not the words. Then, at this age, she still makes a few errors in the English language, substituting words with inexact meaning occasionally, missapprehending nuances sometimes, or outright fouling words up, such as "inbetivold" instead of "inevitable" in that Adele song.
She hits the ground running. There is no build up. She just grabs you by the neck and doesn't let go till the song is over. It's not just the singing it's the interpretation. She is great singer, that's a given but the more I watch her the more I realize what a great performer she is. Like a Michael Jackson or an Elvis Presley. Someone who comes alive on the stage and rules it.
The great Quincy Jones would definitely agree with this about our Angelina. It's why he invited her to sing at his 85th birthday celebration in London's O2 arena.
Angelina was placed on this earth to sing to the hearts and souls of the world and you Ceci were put here to react to her... the perfect pairing!
And at a time in our lives, when we really need an Angel like her ❤️💙

Angelina actually outperforms 'The Godfather of Soul', Mr. James Brown, on this version.
And she hits those ridiculously high notes with ease, while not allowing the blaring
clarinet section to overtake her. The scary thing is that this girl hasn't even reached her
peak yet. Can't begin to imagine what she will accomplish when she reaches adulthood.
Her excellence in so many different genres is unmatched by any singer I have ever heard.
One TH-cam fan posted a compilation of parts of 132 songs, beginning when she was 6.
My mind is still boggled by that extraordinary presentation.
Yes, Rusty Shackleford's compilation is a must watch and listen to for all followers of Angelina. I was going to say to suggest it was also a good introduction for those who have yet to discover her but feel it would overload their senses, and they would not recover. :-)

A couple years ago, I began to think that Angelina was the best singer I ever heard. There were many reasons. It was her unique voice, her interpretation of lyrics, her emotion, her ability to authentically cover so many genres, her arranging, and her intimate, personal connection with the listener. She has only become better as her voice has matured. She makes me feel the emotion of her songs the twentieth or fiftieth time I hear the same performance. Angelina is without any question the best singer I have have ever heard-and it’s not even a close call.
A suggestion for a very different side to Angelina is “I’m Still Holding Out for You”. She was ten years old for this recording, and you will hear a vocal maturity and delivery that is amazing, even for those of us who know how special Angelina is. Her interpretation of melancholy moods and lyrics is better than I’ve ever heard, and this one is a masterpiece-from a ten year old.

I agree with you that this genre of music is what really showcases her talent. Not that she can't sing anything....she absolutely can. But this genre is what turned us all on to her to start with. I think if she made an album of just these great classics she has brought back to life it would fly off the shelf like nothing we have seen in a long time. Wish she would 🙂

Excelente reacción, esta interpretación me parece una de sus 12 mejores. Nada la intimida, ni la banda en vivo ni la gente, se pasea por la música y hace lo que quiere, tiene un excelente fraseo, si bien habla en inglés desde muy pequeña, no deja de ser su segundo idioma. Le pone tanto énfasis a los adornos que en el minuto 5:00 de tu vídeo, el director de la banda siente la potencia, se sorprende, se tira un poco hacia atrás y mueve la cabeza como diciendo "no puede ser", creo que ahí se gana todos los aplausos de pié hacia el final.
Otra de sus interpretaciones en donde "la borda", como dices tú, nosotros decimos "la hace de goma", en el sentido que la puede doblar, aplastar, etc y no pasa nada, es un lujo. Ya que estás en Barcelona - Mesi "la hace de goma" en su juego. es un lujo de "fritos y raspados" increíbles. La canción en sí tiene frases muy largas que requieren una excelente técnica de respiración y control del aire... pero AJ, la surfea haciendo dibujitos... a su mejor estilo.

Considera también que está grabado con micrófono alejado del escenario, en el público, pero si te interesa, esta es la grabación de estudio realizada con la misma banda del ejército que lo acompaña en el concierto y con el que grabó su CD jazz "It's Magic", el sonido es decididamente más limpio, pero si verla en vivo no tiene precio. 😊 ❤️

While the CD ("tt's magic") with the same band was recorden in November 2017 when Angelina was 12 years old.

Personaly what I enjoy the most about her is that she is use all her talent to create great musical interpretation. She never use her great voice just to show off like most other great voices. Either she is greatly directed or she is just pure and unspoiled.

This concert, and the excellent related cd "It's Magic", was a collaboration that Angelina made with the Norwegian Military Band, for the benefit of the band. The prime minister and numerous brass from the military were in attendance. If you run the video all the way to the end, you'll see how far away Boris was recording this. There's something like a moat between the public and the stage. So, the audio isn't marvelous, but we have to thank Boris for his efforts. Angelina always seems to have yet another level for live concerts. Even though they'd rehearsed this song and made the cd, you can see the band director look over at her in amazement at 2:40 and then again at the end...because she is utterly amazing!
Hmmm.....and what about me...??? You didn't say a word that I was there at that concert also.
What you call "the Norwegian Military Band" is actually ..... a military band and .... not... the military band. This because Norway has not one but 5 military bands.
The recording of the CD named "It's magic" was done in November 2017 and the CD was released 15 June 2018. The purpose was to celebrate the 200 years anniversary of the band "Forsvarets Stabsmusikkorps". There was no special benefical project linked to the CD. One can say that it promoted both Angelina and the band.
Angelina had become 7 months older (a significant span at that age of a young girl ) when she and the band had this concert in Oslo on 16 June 2018. The concert area is far from being ideal for holding a concert - when it comes to acoustics. I can also mention that there are no space to stand far from the stage. It's a rather cramped area inside a 700 years old fortress area (Akershus festning). It's the home and offices for amongst else military also that band. Whatever..... it was a great concert.

Ceci, up until I heard Angelina sing for the first time I listened to a variety of vocalists. Since that first experience hearing Angelina sing I became so completely smitten with her other worldly talents that it takes a great effort for me to want listen to other young singers.

Now that I am better educated it makes me wonder how she did not win a contest such as AGT.

Great reaction, I just knew that you would love this one! The first thing I take from this performance is the relaxed swaying from side to side as though she is singing a lullaby, and delivers this powerful rendition. The second thing, how she uses the power of the instruments, almost like a springboard, from which she leaps into the sky, absolutely fearless. How can she look so calm at the end, just another day in the office, compare that with the way James Brown used to look after this kind of performance...

There is another aspect of AJ's being beyond her musicianship, voice, interpretations, stage presence.
I think about the totality of her being. With all of the accolades, the applause and standing ovations it would be very easy for her to become a Prima Donna.
That she still has a sense of humility makes my admiration of her and her family even greater.
Her ability to connect and evoke emotions in her audience is greater than any other performer i have seen.
For all of these attributes I feel AJ has redefined what it is to be an Artist
