Usually there's a resistor you can remove or change near the cpu to disable the onboard memory and use only dimm but you'll need schematics and board view to find it if reflow doesn't work
Wow, I can't help but wonder what it was like to figure out a fault like this for the first time.😤 Nice to know what to look for based on experience, it could be a big time & aggravation saver. 👍 Great lesson!!
A few days ago, I had an Acer laptop from a customer with faulty onboard RAM. They were getting like over 100 degrees, crazy! I tried reflowing and nothing worked. I took them off but keep in mind, the laptop will still not work because the bios will still search for the onboard RAM, because it's programmed that way. The solution is to mod the bios, and disable the onboard RAM. Then you can just plug in a normal RAM stick and you are good to go :D
Sir I bought a rework station 1 year ago, still in its box, I have a 55" TV not working 2 years ago (display issues) I had some time and said... I'll watch some videos to know how to use it, yours was the second video and a light bulb turn on over my head! I open the TV, take out the main board, I reworked the 4 ram memories and the processor too, put thermal grease, assemble all back, and I'm watching my TV all excited! Thanks for sharing your knowledge!
5:35 - Its obvious that marks started disappearing on left most chips. Meaning high temperature. Fluctuation in temperature is what makes solder cracks. 17:33 - There probably have been multiple problems. It changed its behavior after reflowing first 2 chips, so something was fixed/changed. After reflowing second group it started working, and was functional 100%. You didnt reflow only second group to be sure its last one. Simple method of deduction. Good method and demonstration but I think its better to reflow to be sure, sometimes can happen that pushing will not help but reflow will help. Sometimes you have to remove chip to see that solder ball is missing.
The flex in that laptop is crazy! most probably the cause of the RAM error. That or someone vented on the keyboard and thumped it. Reflowing the RAM chips can also be a nightmare on Lenovos because of the brown glue they insist on using. I've seen a few newer HPs with the outer pins on the RAM sockets loose just due to pressure from typing. Modern laptops have poor structural integrity and break with little effort but people want thin tech and will have to pay the price in longevity.
🌄🧡💚crazy, agree!☺️ Tablets are thin but have not the keyboard whole with poor plastic on it. The screen is the best way to put beside the motherboard like tablets, I have an octocore, and very easy to go inside. Perhaps in future, that's an evolution to promote, making the Keyboard a separate thing, with one piece screen and motherboard, even on a 15" or a 19", and why not touch screen. I uses old laptops for music so I have All generations ones, because music hardware's are not updated since window seven sound system, and related to graphic cards, so I can see the evolution opening them, some were iron bunkers, but now for sure, they seems made like a smartphone mother board.🤗 Quick to destroy a solder layer access .
10-15 years ago the board was close to the bottom. with bending protection. Today it is close to the keyboard, all the typing on the keyboard is slowly destroying the motherboard. Fans are getting clogged more small ventilation holes

Thx for your vids and keep the good work.
update. Amazing that could be a sold issue. Happy to have brought an Air Solder !🙏🧡💚🤗 thanks to your videos !. I will try that on one dimm that were not working, causing blue screen and freeze on a working XP laptop. I just changed Battery unmounting all the motherboard, and I fixed the second issue just by taking out the second ram memory, I added just previously. I will see when having time, but an interesting subject for me, that's an issue I had lot of times having lot memory pieces, I generally change the not working one. Happened me few days ago, but not tried to repare the Ram part. Will update this comment if necessary! Thanks🙏💚👍
A little tip, if the chips are actually defective it is cheaper and safer to buy a RAM module remove the chips, reball and solder on the board rather than buying the chips themselves. I bought an 8gb ddr4 ram module for 15usd from aliexpress to fix the onboard memory of a laptop, If I had bought just the chips it would be several times more expensive and I could possibly end up with fake/faulty chips. Just make sure the chips on the module use the same package and preferably have the same specs as the ones on the board.
Hi Sorin. Followed some other electronic repair youtubers earlier but they started to speak about their customersin a quite unacceptable style so I left those superhuman channels. It seems, there are two proper guys left where this problem never occurs. You are one of the two. Please, keep your style, show your success and also your failures, keep acting like this. Great channel with great quality content we can learn from. Greetings from Hungary.
In the past I came arround a laptop where if fan was not connected laptop wont turn on... so maybe the left chip was the issue. I was cringing when you flexed main board so much but everything worked out on the end 😁. Good video, thx.
THANK YOU VERY MUCH FOR THE EXPLANATION OF THE MEMORY PROBLEM A QUESTION HOW COULD YOU BERIFY IT IF WHEN YOU PRESENT NOTHING AS SHOWN IN THE VIDEO THANK YOU VERY MUCH
Great content and thank you for everything. I've learned so much from this channel that no school can teach me. Just one advice, don't open laptops on the corners. That puts all the force on one hinge and can weaken or even break the hinge(don't ask me how I know) :D
I am watching this from the exact same laptop. To be precise, mine carries the model no. Ideapad C340-14API (Ryzen 5 3500U, 1 TB SSD, 14 inch IPS with touch, 8 GB RAM-I have upgraded to 20 GB - 4 GB onboard and 16 GB module). My unit came with Samsung memory though (both the onboard and the expansion as well). 3.5 years so far and still going strong.
LOVE this channel and everything he does, so much better than all the other channels BUT........ just have one worry on "cooling Pads" um. when you pull up a reflow temp profile for a chip, it gives the time to heat gradually UP to temp but makes it very clear to pull nozzle away SLOWLY to cool not shock the chip. So is fast cooling with a pad will cause fractures soon of the balls? instead of letting it just cool for 10 mins then test? Are the cooling pads undoing all of Sorens great work and will fail again instead of long tern repair?
For me I will first detach the battery from the board before anything, I cannot still believe that seems like a magic to me, Sorin please I want to come to you, I needed to inherit all these knowledge from you..........

Hey Sorin, I wanted to play along in diagnosing the fault but I already know what it is because I saw the title of the video. Is it possible to list only the symptoms in the title or do you need to put the cause of fault there also in order to get views?
Good error finding, in my experience reflow doesn't work, lead free pads get oxidized and the flux can't get to the bottom of the chip, only at the board, so solder won't stick to the chip. Reballing solves the problem all the time (if not the chip has ripped pads). Leaded balls and 90x90 stencil is the best, reballing 4 ram chips take 10 minutes and jobs won't come back dead.
Thanks Sorin, excellent lession! But in my opinion in real life it is not reliable. I would remove the soldered memory chips (install the memory module in the slot) and it might be necessary to configure the straps there or flash another BIOS.
Can you test again remove the 2nd fan? It could be the system detected no 2nd fan plug in and refuse to turn on, which also explain why it also refuse to work when you press your finger on the same chip as before.

If you want to measure the voltage drop with a multimeter, you can follow the following steps: 1. Select the appropriate range: Select the appropriate range on the multimeter according to the expected voltage drop. Generally speaking, a larger range can be selected at the beginning, and then gradually adjusted to a more appropriate range according to the actual measured value to obtain a more accurate reading.

hello sir its good
how can disable the onboard RAM and use usual ram for this laptop?

At 9:04 you're saying, it is going to work if you take out the RAM chips, but I believe it will not work, I already tested.
