    I actually really like overnight flights for the simple fact it makes me feel like I'm not wasting a big chunk of the day on a flight. I figure I'd normally be asleep so if I get any sleep (true it will be a small percentage of my normal sleep), it's exciting to wake up and start the day in a whole new place in the world. Been taking red eyes for years and never regretted it!

    Introducing “Mini Josh” ! Great to catch your brief review, mate. The tough things you do, to save us having to do them. You deserve a medal. I agree, overnight flights are the pits, unless you’re tucked into a comfy bed upstairs or at the front. They may sometimes be cheaper, but when you arrive at your hotel in our part of the globe, it’s too early to check-in, so you have to pay a day surcharge. Here’s cheers for your second channel 🎉! Will

    So Lion Air offered you a no-frills flight from Mumbai to Bangkok and they carried you cheaply from Mumbai to Bangkok. Mission accomplished! It is surprising that they didn't have either pre-paid meals or at least refreshments for sale on the flight. They could make good money out of these extras. But they got you there. Hope you had a good sleep in Bangkok.

    As I'm a Thai, I rate Thai Lion Air as the worst seat and legroom over Thai sky. Actually, you are lucky to get the -800 since its -900er has lesser legroom at 29". However, with the cheaper price and the baggage is included in airfare, it is a good choice for domestic flight. But I (and many people I know) avoid its flights taking more than 2 hrs., like from Bangkok to Taiwan, China, India, or Indonesia.

  • @lestravel_au
    @lestravel_au ปีที่แล้ว +3

    I recently flew from KTM to DXB on Fly Dubai, very similar experience. Jam packed, horrible seats no legroom. The crew visible stressed people not listening still using mobile phones on take off. They served us lunch ( wish they didn’t) small chicken sausage, something similar to omelette & Baked Beans! Constant line at the toilets then one of them appeared to be blocked up then the line got longer making it near impossible for the crew to clean up after meal. Got what I paid for !

    What would you expect from low cost airlines, its just basics & no frills. In current times with expensive flight tickets, for people who still require to travel & cost conscious, budget carriers are the preferred choice. If you want proper services, with the head rest then fly full service carrier.

    Avoid overnight flights whenever possible. Living on the west coast of the US, a European flights are red eyes. For an upcoming trip to London, I am flying to JFK, staying at the TWA hotel, then taking the 8am Virgin Atlantic flight to LHR. Truly a great way to avoid jet lag.

    Flights between Thailand and India are often at this late odd hours. Thai Lion Air 737 is definitely not for any flight longer than 2 hours. Very tight legroom as u’ve just experienced. Thanks for the review.

    What's worse than an overnight flight is an overnight layover in an airport with no hotel! I flew Malaysian from Tokyo to Kuala Lampur with an overnight layover in KUL then to Bangkok the next morning. Had a whole row to myself on Malaysian and slept comfortably but got wierd glances from the staff for sleeping during the flight. Overnight layover is not fun. Everything is closed, the atmosphere is just out of sorts. But I survived, and after making a few rounds walking around the airport, I found a nice comfy seat to sleep in and nearly overslept and missed my morning flight until they called my name for the last call! I hauled my butt to the Thai flight and just barely made it! Went back the same way but took day flights. That certainly was the way to go! KUL was open and bustling and could grab some food an souveniers before heading back to Tokyo.

    • @well-blazeredman6187
      @well-blazeredman6187 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I had an overnight layover in KUL a couple of weeks ago. Having rejected the idea of killing time in a lounge, or slumming it in a terminal seat, I opted for a super-tiny room in KLIA2's Aerotel. That was definitely the right call. And the hotel will give you an alarm-call too!

    I like overnight flights when I'm travelling to a destination, yes I'm tired, but I get a full day in my destination rather then maybe late afternoon or just the evening to enjoy. For coming home, it's getting home as late as possible so I can enjoy my final day, instead of checking out super early to get to the airport.

    I usually fly with them for my diving trips to Indonesia where I take Singapore airlines from Europe untill manado and from Manado to Sorong Lion Air 737-900 which was alright as it is a short day flight. Also I was lucky to get the emergency exit row.

      Only lion air, airline in Indonesia that have many routes, besides many routes it also sells cheap tickets, even though this airline has a classic problem, that is delay. But it remains the airline of choice for most Indonesian, so indonesians are more familiar lion air than Garuda Indonesia( the airline carrier of Indonesia)

    I understand you, Josh. I also questioned myself about my decision-making back in August. I flew from Athens to CPH at 1:40AM and arrived at 4AM, I didn't sleep well because of the full house flight and I couldn't check in to a hotel early, it is tough for me. Well, just had the Thai Lion Air experience from DMK to CNX. Had same aircraft registration witin 5 days for the return flight. Half of the sidewall lights were inoperative, so was a quart of the ceiling lights. Very much doubt the technical state of the 737 we were in. The landing back at Bangkok was more of a controlled crash on the left main gear, I could hear the tires skidding before the aircraft resumed normal deceleration.

    Finally Josh reviewed Lion Air, I remember very well how the son of the Indonesian president made a tweet on his Twitter. he tweeted that his luggage had strayed to Medan, even though his flight was to Surabaya. But at that time he didn't fly using Lion, but Batik Air (in the same group as Lion Air). maybe for IFE I think Lion Air has it, but that's through an application called Tripper. The point is you have to try Lion Air in Indonesia Josh, that's what you're reviewing isn't that bad, in Indonesia you might be surprised. Maybe you can review all the airlines in Indonesia Josh, such as Batik, Citilink, Super Air Jet, Garuda Indonesia, Trans Nusa, Sriwijaya, Nam air, & Pelita.

It’s okay, I can do three connections at four in the morning at eight and set on a packed flight it’s only five hours but then reality kicks in and you’re actually owners doing us. Are you wonder to yourself why do I do this to myself? The worst one is arriving in an airport at two in the morning with a connecting flight at seven or eight in the same morning and you think it’s okay I will sleep on the couch at the airport I’m sure I’ll find something comfortable and then you find yourself sleeping on your concrete floor outside the terminal building and people don’t understand you’re trying to sleep because you’re in an airport on the floor!!

    I used to do that too, and then when you’re on the flight you’re thinking to yourself, why did I do that again? So these days I don’t do that I travel on the major airlines. I am also going to Mumbai today but I’m flying with Thai Airways, it’s an international star alliance airlines it’s quality service. The aeroplane is nice and the staff are quite pleasant, arrives in at 10 o’clock leaves Bangkok at seven perfect timing! I only fly budget airlines now when I really have to sometimes you save 60 $70, but when you’re on the plane you’re wondering to yourself why am I doing this to myself? The other thing is God forbid, if anything happens, dealing with a budget airlines, you’re not gonna get Jack shit from theM
