could this work but with 65 pound main line braid then 40lb mono as leader then the three way rig with the wire leader with the circle hooks but just one and a 6 oz pyramid sinkers?
@@raulisrael7342 absolutely. Little different obviously a bit lighter and the pyramid won’t hold in as strong of current as the Sputnik but it’ll work in calm conditions 100%
@@profisherman08 totally depends. Sometimes they’ll last 5 or 6 uses. Sometimes after 1 session, whatever current and seaweed were out there tangle it all up. In that case, it’s still structurally sound, but it’s not the best looking leader. Other times if you store it wet, it can rust and then if the wire casing has been knicked, the rust might get through to the wires. When the rust gets the wires you’re likely to see one of the strands of wire break and at that point I toss them. But that’s typically after a couple uses. On average I guess I’d say they last my 5 sessions a piece.
@@profisherman08 Tides don’t matter to me at all for Leo’s. If anything, I just don’t like it when the tide gets too high (maybe above 5.5ft) as it can get a little turbulent and amplify seaweed, swell and current.
@@AU.PG08 very much depends on time of year but it varies a lot. From April - June this year, it was automatic. Never missed in a 4 hour session. From July - now, it’s been about 50%. Sometimes right away, sometimes a full 3-4 hours before getting hit. If you can get a solid 15-30 minute soak you’re looking good

can u explain why you got 50lb main line and your leader rig is 100lb and 80lb? i see others do the same but just curious why? if it rip off wouldnt it rip at the 50lb beacuse less strenghth?
The purpose of the thicker and stronger line close to my rig is for abrasion resistance. I’ve actually changed my set up slightly since making this video and I go from my 50lb braid to 100lb mono for about 20 yds and then tie that to my 90lb wore leader. First time making my own rigs. This was one of the rigs. What a freaking plus and minus. This thing 95% of the time got tangled. The current was horrible, my 8 oz weight easily drifted so tangled with the hook line. That said...I caught a 49" Leopard! Go figure. Much more confident in the fish finder rig...which is really just a Carolina rig.

Hey man, came to see different techniques, nice video! Might I suggest trying a texas rig with a slide and 5 oz pyramid instead of an egg. I find that you dont need expensive leaders for leopards as long as you have 30lb mono. I have lost some but also i hook into far more using no leader and a simple on the ground presentation.

Took some time dialing that and it’s the rig that landed me 103 leopards above 48” a couple summers ago so I’m not a believer that they’re like shy. I’m only after the big ones (60ish) and the soups that take as well and mono won’t do for them.
Insert one end of the wire through the eye of the hook (about 1/2”). Then pin that tag end to the shank of the hook and wrap the “mainline” of the wire around the shank (including where the pinched tag end is. It’s the same as you would Snell any other line.
Oh so you’d pull the main line of it back through the eye and then continue with the rig? I have all the stuff to make it but I tried doing a snell like I would mono/floor/braid but it wasn’t working.

Wrap the main line over the shank (pinching down the mainline against the shank too.) 4. Gotcha, I was looking at it on your website and fissured that’s what was happening. I was just having trouble cause it’s all coming undone on me guess I’m not wrapping it against the shank hard enough? Anyway it would be awesome if you made a video demonstrating making this rig. Yup. That’s a mono rating though. Braid will always be different so it’s just a matter of getting to know rods and matching it all up. I assure you this exact setup is 👌
hmm.. that rig might work for that shark that cut you off a few weeks back... maybe.. lol.. for some of the sharks at that place you aren't going to get a rig heavy enough, no matter what you do.. hahaha

Just do a texas rig. Line with slide and 6 oz lead on it straight to 6 o circle hook. No tangling and no necessary cable leaders.

Just grab them by the tail and stay away from the mouth. Use pliers to unhook.
