How much did I earn for a Saturday night shift?

- This video isn't about bragging and showing off.
I've uploaded it to outline the importance of your time and how you manage it.
I didn't want to do the job on a Saturday night because of how it impacted my family time. The Sunday was spent mainly sleeping (until3.30pm).
Don't lose sight of the fact you have a voice and are incredibly important. Your employer shouldn't ever be able to pressure you into something you don't want to do.
I just said that price because I thought they would say no and we could reschedule for another day.
This happens in the trade sometimes and I've heard many stories over the years about people either not having time to do jobs or not wanting them in the first place so they put an inflated price in to deflect the job away but inadvertently win the work.

Absolutely Tony you broken that down perfectly, people only see the hours “worked” or on-site. What they fail to see is the knock on effect it has on a personal level.
I personally think £990 was fair bud
It's becoming a more important subject as people struggle with pressures that they feel they can't handle. If you spend time with people that really care for you they can help.you through.
Discussing the pay makes the videos a lot more interesting.
More please👍👍
Great video Tony. Great advice.
Keep the videos coming. 👍🙏
Great and such an important message from you Jointech on the Boss being 'In Charge' but the skilled worker having control of the situation too
As you say buddy, it's your time, and it's how you value it.
Enjoyed the video, thanks.
When I saw the thumbnail I thought "oh no, Tony quit his job and started a cooking show" 😂
Hahahahahaha that would have been an option when I'd finished on Sunday morning. I was knackered
@@jointechcabling9103 , neverless, you did a decent and clean job there. Something you can check off your bucketlist 😎

Worth every penny
100% agree - if they want the work then they gotta pay the throw away figure! Great video brother, we can all learn something from this. Nothing but respect for you
Really interesting video! Top job Tony.
Your time, your labour, your expertise! You said I price it was accepted job done….. I think that’s excellent money and even though you didn’t want to do it you still went and did it so good on you and good luck! They must know you are worth the money. Time is something you never get back so get as much as you can for it pal you have a family to support this big project have money to burn not as if it some one man band needing a hand.👍 cheers for the video
As a contractor who carries out this type of work, your rate mentioned is very reasonable! We maybe in touch. Love your videos and the quality of your work.
Well done Tony, looks a good Job. Glad I didn't hang around last night 😂 Bazza
Finished at 8 this morning 😭😭🙈🙈🤣🤣🤣
Well worth the price charged, that's a real challenging install fair play 👏
Proper grafter Tony - well done mate
How did you not tell me you saw Bill Bailey??? 😳😳😳 Good work Doll, proud of you
Exactly right Tony!
Just got a dominoes in. Perfect timing 😂
Hi Tony great video thanks, if they want the top man to do the job, even though you didn't want it. Don't ever sell your short, your worth every penny mate. Take care mate Gary 😊.
always a strange one when you give them an f off price because you don't want the job, and then they say yes to the ridiculous price
Spot on Tony.
Respect and you know what you are worth.
Hi Tony. Enjoyed the video. Cost wise I would have said fair price for all your work would have been between 1.5 and 2K. especially due to all overhead working.
That looks hard and I moan running cables up and down the chassis of an HGV 🙈😆
About right, and wasnt a doddle either. No one wants to be doing that on a saturday night, gotta make it worth your while
Could you do a short video of your career progression from start of your electrical work to where you are now. Cheers
I did a video where I talk about it. It was a while ago though. Trouble is I can't remember exactly which one it was 🤣🤣🤣🙈🙈🙈
Nice work Tony. I think you could charge £1300. At the end of the day its your whole weekend and your experience is worth every penny. Little thumbs up.
I think you undervalued your work. Working antisocial hours, I'd have doubled your usual hourly rate then added £500 for inconvenience. Round up, £2000. Let them say no. You're not short of work.
Very fair. Between 1500 and 2500 was what I would had in my head if I was to sub that out to another firm at short notice over a weekend night. As a solo guy 1k is a fair price for all, especially if they are guys you know you are working for.
Quick one though , ally gland plate ? As can’t see a slot cut between HO7 glands
I'd put in a price nearer 1500 quid. That would've given me and an apprentice a decent wage and a few days in Centre Parks with me wife and kids!
Lowe price for such a skilled person like yourself 👍👌
I used to hate those jobs, you give a price that’s off the wall praying that is not going to come in and then it does, but I always used to think if I quoted x amount and to me it was a stupid amount, what did the other companies quote and was I still quoting too cheap, I always allowed for 3 days doing adhoc night work, as you said the bosses or customers want really care about you it’s just the family who remembers
That’s a pretty reasonable price Tony , most companies would send two men to do that job and they would both want more than half of your price to do it , that’s how the company will see it , bet they snatched your hand off
started with so much grey, left work with less grey and boom wake up with more grey, you should get back to work it ages both of us when you're not
You don't have to justify what you charge if someone is willing to pay you Tony.
Plus that looks a right shite job to do so well done
We had some 95*5 last month the same horrible stuff. We ended up scoring down it with a cut off tool then someone standing on it and pulling it.
Don't think your pricing is bad at all. Looks like a right pig of a job. Especially since you're standing next to a half mil machine. I thought MRI machines shouldn't be near metal?
Cash is king Tony
I did say a grand, honest. Could you have asked a litle more? They agreed, no bickering.
Good amount should have charged more 💪🏽
I don’t think that’s too much to ask.
I’m a maintenance electrician in Australia, I work Nightshift permanently as an employee. 4 days on 4 days off 12hr nights 6pm to 6am, I clear $2500 AUD a week ($1300 pound) after tax.
Works out due to weekends being payed at 2x and 30% nightshift loading.
I’m the lowest payed as I’m the newest.
Damm that's good money. Which state and whereabouts?
Aussie sparky over here in U.K. ten years now. Moving back to oz next year
@@carlmarquardt994 VIC, Automation electrician
if they thougt you were not worth the money, they would have said no, they are not paying you for hours worked, they are paying for your expertise and skill
And the off cuts hopefully….👍
Honestly think you could have asked for / been paid double that.
Said to me on a job decades ago…."if YOU drop dead NOW they will have found your replacement before your death announcement "
you deserve every pound
fair play to you, that looks like a shitty job having to do all that above the ceiling and above your head
Your noot just a cable jointer your a TH-cam star cable jointer price should of been £2000 😂
There are plenty out there getting paid to much to do feck all and plenty graffting and not getting enough IMO no your worth 👍👍👍
You could charge more imo
To much £££ 🤣
suspect they bit you’re hand off for a grand. An IT job on a saturday could easily be far more and we only have to push a mouse around
using a stuffing gland for the HO7 , you dont need to slot the gland plate , eddy wont be visitng with plastic gland
Yes you do. It’s got nothing to do with the plastic gland. It’s got everything to do with the metal enclosure that they are glanded into. Obvy don’t know your stuff mate
