- Get ready for another exciting episode of Harvey's restoration journey! 🚐💨 Join us as we dive into some major upgrades and fixes to ensure our 1976 vintage RV is road-ready and family-approved for our upcoming camping adventures!
In this episode, we're installing sleek new Bluetooth speakers from Herdio to elevate our road trip tunes to the next level. We're also tackling the vibration issue we've experienced during drives by swapping out the drive shaft and u-joints for smoother travels. Tyler also spends a good deal of time on the floor and under the hood to service the transmission. We encounter some ignition issues again and address those with a brand new HEI ignition system.

Here's the question inquiring minds need to know. How much effort do you two have to put into cracking us up? The vid could've stopped after the switch voice bit and we would've been all good. You two are hilarious!! Do you're children find you amusing, or just your YT peeps??
Harvey is a fairly demanding creature in your life. Who knew he still required all that work!! Harvey sure was rid hard and put away wet a few too many times before you encountered him. Good thing he's got Tyler to figure out where all his aches and pains come from and how to fix them!!
And look at you now, getting product placement endorsements!! You get to 13.6k subs and peeps think your worth sending stuff for your cool retro RV. Y'all be rockin' some Herdio speakers now!! Strong work on that!!
Thanks so much! The kids sometimes think we're funny... sometimes they think we're "cringey" 😂😆 Jokes on them, they're going to grow up just like us, lol. Harvey could end up being a neverending project. We're getting ready to do the ball joints and whatnot now before we go camping. The channel has been fun. We appreciate you following along and commenting 💚
If i am allowed a favourite it's gotta be Harvey 😊❤😊
Harvey is so cool 😎💚
Mine too!
Congrats on the ignition fix and the vibration! Looking forward to the trip! 👍🙏
Thanks 👍 Us too!!
Keep smiling. Your smiles are contagious and you make me smile.
Oh yay, thanks! 😁😁 We appreciate you watching.
We're engaged! That's what she said
Have some faith woman!
Why do you Yanks call it gas? It's liquid
Happy trails, Cowpokes
😂
Glory hallelujah the speakers worked. 😆Nice not to have to work on the ground. Get some cardboard to lat on. You know, I put concrete down in a corrugated hangar, the wind blew the building away. That darn concrete pad can be seen from space. 🙄 😵💫
Oh my gosh, that's crazy!
Love your video’s and you two your family is like the new Ozzy and Harriet TV show can’t wait to follow you guys with all of us hanging over your shoulders 😅
That's so awesome to hear! Glad you're enjoying the channel and we're happy to have you along for the ride!
Sleeperdude had an electronic ignition system he add on his old RV. You might want to look at it down the road.
Thanks for the comment 😁. Surprisingly Harvey has factory electronic ignition. By doing the HEI modification,I was able to eliminate some of the factory ignition components and solve the issue.
Pretty sure this is the first time in my life that I have enjoyed watching any kind of mechanic work. I love this channel!
That is such a huge compliment! The question is this... for people that enjoy mechanic shows, do we drive them crazy? 😂
The deodorant actually does work for belts. But they also have what's known as spray belt dressing which works even better.
If you want to do the deodorant even though it is temporary you can heat up the deodorant in the microwave by taking all of the deodorant itself out and putting it in a bowl and running it for about a minute in your microwave but use an old one because the perfume from the deoperant will linger for a long time.
Basically soften it. Do it when the HARVEY is at rest( not running).
If need be, you can cake it in the pully and run it, the repeat the process..
Thanks for the tip 😁. Good to know
The role reversal, and all the movie clips had us cracking up! Unbelievable to know how to pull a driveshaft out! And Jack does good work!
Haha, we were planning to say a lot more in our little role reversal but kept cracking up. Glad you enjoyed it and learned how to remove a driveshaft in case that need ever arises for you 😂
I am accidentally learning more mechanic-ing from your channel. I'm rooting for Harvey to be at a campground soon. 🏕
Nice! We hope to be out camping soon 😁
Wow I should have watched that whole thing before commenting the Ati was awesome doing it’s job
👍🏻
The square deviled eggs and the skit, got me to smile!!!!
Awesome, thanks for watching!
Great video...❤ I think I seen some laughing and smiling that made it though the censors😂😂😂😂😂 yall are the Best
Thanks so much😁
😊😊😂😂 The role reversal
We tried... couldn't really keep it together for very long 😂😂 Thanks for watching!
Intro was so funny
Thanks! Glad you liked it 😁
Just keep doing videos for us to watch.
That's the plan! Thanks for watching 😁
Great video! The speakers really work great. Bluetooth is awesome. So glad the vibration went away with the new drive shaft. Can you give an update in your next video about the minivan? That deer really did some damage to it.
Yes, thanks! We still haven't gotten the van back from the shop yet but supposedly they'll have it fixed this week. We don't know the total damage assessed but it wasn't totalled which is nice. Thanks for watching!
Be safe and have fun!!
Thank you, we appreciate the comment!
Great project! Working through all the gremlins is time consuming. If you are having resistance issues and the ignition wiring runs straight through the ignition barrel, it can pay to run it through relay instead. As the contacts in the barrel get crusty with age they don’t handle the load as well but will power a relay just fine.
You're right! Wiring can be a bear. I'd like to think this HEI modification solves the bulk of our ignition issues. We'll keep you posted.
That low voltage at the coil thing is probably a ballast resistor or a resistive wire going to coil +, Old design feature so you could run a lower voltage coil to make up for the voltage loss during cranking. Or a crappy ignition switch. HTH.
I've made improvements to the ignition. A new ignition switch didn't solve all the issues. I also simplified the ignition by going with HEI.
Whether you work on Harvey the “OG”, or the “Queen” Holiday Rambler your videos will be amazing!!!! By the way y’all are hilarious, we love your sense of humor😂
Thank you so much!!😊
Love you guys.
Thank you! 💚💚
I would love to get one of these, but I'd want a Toyota Tundra drive-train, I think that would do well for the reliability in an old camper like this.
There's something to be said for reliability 😉. Sounds like a fun swap!
that back fire could be a timeing issue make sure you put that on the list
Good point. I keep meaning to put a timing light on it. I'll be sure and check it out. Thanks!
Go to the auto parts store and get a can of belt dressing that should help it out
That may have made more sense than getting the Speed Stick 😆
😂 you two guys. To funny
Thank you 😊😊
You two play each other well! I love it! Great video! Thanks.
Thanks so much!
Honestly the funniest video so far actually had me cracking up
Thanks so much!!😊
Nice work - love your channel!
Thank you very much!
Invest in some wagos for those wire connections.I would make fixing the belt issue my top priority. You don’t want that belt to pop.
I've used the wagos. For the RV I like using the solder splices though. The belts are new and tight. Just a bit squeaky. The pulleys might be slightly misaligned still. I'll have to check closer. Thanks for the comment.
On the belt issue I would check over everything again belts shouldn’t squeak.I would pull the belt back off and check my pulleys and maybe even check the belt again.New doesn’t always mean it’s the correct belt or that it’s good.I would take the belt back and maybe get another one.Cant hurt well maybe if the wrench slips and bust your knuckles up.Enjoy your videos keep up the good work.
Good suggestions, thanks!
Very good video
Thank you!!😁
You two. You constantly crack me up!!😅😅 Fiddle Faddle...ignition problems😮. Harvey is coming along...have fun camping!
Thanks so much!!😊
You two are a blessing to us all
Thank you so much 😁
Look at Gear Vendors for a bolt on overdrive.
Thanks for the comment 😁. Gear Vendors is an an option. I'm also looking at a A518 overdrive transmission swap. We'll have to way the options.
Good to see Y'all
Hope you liked the new video! It's funny, a few people have commented lately about us being "back." We're thinking maybe TH-cam didn't push out some of our videos to people. Thanks for watching!
Good job all around. Tunes, tuned and balanced. Ready for summer.........soon.
Yep,it's getting close to camping season 😁
Good to see you make some progress on Harvey.
Thanks 👍
Loved it! You cracked me up when you were doing each others voices😂
😂 Thank you!
You guys are so funny!!! Totally enjoyed this episode!
Thanks so much!
You guys are hilarious 🤣
Thanks 😁
Good to see you again! I loved the reverse acting segment and loved Jack involved in the speaker installation! Where are you with the cost of Harvey given the recent add ons?
How great is the shed!?!? Tyler isn't rolling in the mud!
Have you started to organize your new shelves? A gravel approach to the barn would be great!
Until the next one, thank you for the video!
Thanks so much for the comment, nice to hear from you. The new drive shaft was around $400 so not too bad... the costs do keep adding up, don't they? For that intro, we wanted to say more but couldn't stop laughing 😂
Great, your back!!!!!!!!
Hope you liked the new video! It's funny, a few people have commented lately about us being "back." We're thinking maybe TH-cam didn't push out some of our videos to people. Strange 🤔
@@retrorevivals I love what you guys do, thank you!!!!!
I have a 76 Dodge Tioga with the 360 and I love what you've done with your camper! I suggest you just change the belts, they've stretched with age which is why you can't get rid of the squeal. Also if you haven't already ready done it add a good zinc additive to the oil.
Thank you! We actually have new belts on it but we're wondering if maybe we need smaller ones. Thanks so much for watching!
Without a partion, you're going to be drowning each other to hear what you're trying to listen to
Definitely true. Our curtain won't block much sound. We are hoping to install a little video projector in the back at some point. We were thinking we might not want audio up in the cab if we're watching something in the back.
Just thinking the Beachboys wouldn’t have had a hit with Good vibrations.
We're hoping for no vibrations in this RV, good or bad!
The caps on the rear U joint were out of place. Probably the clips were missing. This will cause vibrations. The new U joints have external clips which are better.
Those caps were held in place by internal C-clips. The new u-joints are external on the drive shaft but are still internal on the factory yokes. Thanks for the comment 😁.
When it starts when you release the key, is it possible that the resistor for the coil is wired wrong? The resistor should only be in line while the engine runs, NOT while cranking. It is called a high performance coil. While cranking it should get 12 V and while running only about 8V through the resistor. The resistor is a overcurrent protection, that should not be in line while cranking.
I suppose that's possible. I'm getting better at understanding Chrysler ignitions but I decided to simplify and convert to HEI. Now I've got my 12V constant during cranking.
Bar soap on the belts will stop the squeak
😂. We fell for the "deodorant will stop the squeak" trick already, lol. Jk, we might try bar soap next. Put it on while it's running??
No don’t put it on while it’s running! That’s not safe. Just rub it on and then pull the belt to a fresh place until you get it coated all the way around. If it still squeals then it’s your pulley. Pulleys can go bad especially if it has bearings that go bad. Be safe and keep your fingers away from moving parts. 🥰
Huzzah
Huzzah!!
lots of progress! will the HEI system eliminate the ballast resistor (which might've been the problem to start with)?
Yes the HEI does eliminate the ballast resistor and also the electronic ignition control module. I had replaced the ballast resistor before and it didn't change anything. We'll see how this works long term.
was the axle compressed the whole time? Like was the rear of the truck still on the ground? If so then that was your problem with the driveshaft not coming out because the driveshaft moves in as the axle goes up.
Good assessment. Yes,when I first started the rearend was on the ground. I realized the issue and jacked it up. Unfortunately it was still a half inch from clearing the yoke. Crazy 😬
Upgrade the rear-end to get better rpm-gas mileage .
A gear change would improve that. I'm leaning towards an overdrive trans or overdrive unit. But we'll see. Thanks for the comment 😁
Where did you buy that couch and how much? keep on keeping on.
We bought two RV couches at auction and modified them into a sectional.
So we had a Plymouth visa that did the same thing ours was a resister that was on the fire wall not sure where yours would be located. Just was wondering if that could be your ignition problem
Thanks for the comment 😁. I replaced the resistor along with other related ignition components. The issue was a voltage drop during cranking. The HEI modification seems to have cured the issue.
"Try not to do too much stabbing"- how many mothers get the chance to say that to their son?! I also would seriously like to know who figured out that putting stick deodorant on the belt would stop the squealing??????
Well, we're 0 for 1 on the deodorant working so maybe people were just tricking us 😂. We love when the kids help out... things take a little longer but that time together is so nice and hopefully they are learning a thing or two from their old mom and dad.
Did you replace the belts already on Harvey ? If so go a size smaller
We did add new belts... might need to try a smaller size if we can't get the squeak resolved 😬
Old bets stretch so if you matched the same size as the old belt its to big drop the size 1 or 2 sizes smaller
That drives haft is way too long for sure. Every time you hit a bump, it bottoms out in transmission causing severe wear possibilities.
Agreed! I can't believe it lasted as long as it did. Glad to have it replaced 😁
You should have bought a gmc, but oh well. still a good job done.
Haha, thanks 🥳🥳 We didn't exactly choose this one, it chose us 😆
could Jack be any cuter???
🥰🥰🥰
LOL!
Thank you 😆
IF,, the car makers had any sense; the belt and pulleys would be notched to fit/NOT slick on slick. For this writer, I do not care, I drive an EV!
Good point!
you two swapping I cried laughing
Too funny 😂. We wanted to say more but kept laughing, lol
