All Inputs of Pro Smash Ultimate Players Visualized

- We are showcasing all inputs of a few of the best Smash Ultimate players out there during some of their finest moments. Enjoy!
How fast is Melee:
Westballz: • Melee - How fast is We...
Armada: • Melee - How fast is Ar...
Disclaimer: We asked the players about their controls and button habbits while playing to get the most accurate info. But still, this video only showcases VISIBLE inputs, obviously there is a lot more going on during a match (like buttons being held or pressed multiple times, option selects, DI, etc). We almost always assumed NO BUFFER to make the inputs easier to see and understand. We also sometimes showed buttons being pressed a bit longer than in reality (e.g. jump during shorthops), to make them easier to see for the video. Controlstick inputs are estimations, as it is extremely difficult to get accurate info here.
Thanks to the players for working with us!

It's clear that some of these plays are incredibly hard to pull off, but not necessarily because of their speed. The most important attributes in Ultimate are precision and decision making, and this video shows that pretty well imo.
Still, to us just watching the inputs is really interesting, so we wanted to share that experience with you guys! Hope you like it and depending on how well this one does, we might make another video with different players. Let us know which ones you want to see most :)
VoiD please!
Maister please ❗
Larry lurr or elegant please
Nicko or kome pleaseeee
The amount of work and patience this represents on your end is remarkable. I wanna see Losira....
I love how in the Esam portion the lofi makes the commentation sound like a rap. 2:34
ShinyPiplup101 Omg you’re right lmao
Yoooooo that’s actually so sick how the commentators sound in time with the beat lmao
sick xD i don't understand english so it's real rap to me x)
Didn't notice till I saw your comment but so true xD
It's true and if it wasn't for you I won't be playing the same minute a hundred times. It sounds so good.
shogun's inputs impress me the most tbh, all these players are something else though
I was actually watching with my mouth open and my eyes wide when seeing his movements, crazy
For comparison to other games that track APM. these clips were roughly 200-250 apm
EDIT: for comparison to melee westballz inputs were 320-420 apm playing falco.
When this virus thing is over I really wanna see shogun at more events he’s so sick
Hopefully he's not sick now
What if we are kil

The placement of the controller feels a bit distracting and in the way, but other than that, this is amazing!
It's supposed to be distracting and in the way because that's the point of the video. It's transparent enough so that you can see what's happening, but big enough so that you can also focus on the controller.
Please do more of these in the future!! I’d love to see BestNess and Nairo’s inputs on display!
I really want to see teapacman I think that would look awesome, super dope video.
Every other pro player: *this video*
Zero: *shows only c stick inputs*
Nice video ! I wanted to see Tsu with Lucario. That's so hype
Here are my settings
R for shield
Y for jump
A for tilt attacks
C stick for smash attacks
No stick jump
Low stick sensitivity
Z for grab
B for special
L for tech
Hope these controls help you if you are beginning to play this game
For Roy mains the whole controller lights up
Sick combo to start the video with
This video is awesome and really insightful on how pro's play
I was surprised that more of these people don’t jump with a shoulder button. Only ESAM does, and he appears to use x or y more frequently than L
If you play with a gamecube controller, you only have 3 shoulder buttons, which means that you have to choose between shoulder jump for easy short hops and attack cancelling or shoulder specials for easy wavebouncing. Add personal preferences to the equation and you get a good amount of variety in controller layout.
@@TheRealBatabii It's not because of familiarity it's to make certain tech easier to do
@@TheRealBatabii Not everyone wants to move their finger position around constantly or use the claw grip.
Batabii I don't think SC even has a jump button lol
Don't quote me on that though, it's been a while since I've played
Batabii Way easier to do cstick aerials, attack cancelling (Esam uses this a lot) and you can buffer short hops easily (I use this for Pika nair loops although it appears that Esam doesn’t)
I'm surprised how many of them don't have 2 jump buttons, so they're always doing short hops by half pressing jump.
In my case I didn’t know you could press 2 jump buttons to short hop, so when I first started playing I learned to short press jump and now it’s as natural as breathing. Just takes practice.
people will comment on this saying this isn't as impressive as Melee, and while that is true I don't think it's a fair comparison. Melee is a candidate for the most input heavy fighting game of all time.
This is impressive in it's own way and debunks the idea of top level Ultimate being mashy and nothing else. It's also very cool seeing the controller layouts beforehand so you have a better idea of how the player is doing what they're doing (I had no idea mkleo used R for specials)
Shogun makes snake flow like water, it's actually unreal
Crap, I blinked. Time to watch the video again!
This video concept is cool asf
ESAM uses L to jump when he is doing the loop
Literally ESAM's words: "I don't use L for anything"!
(Although before that he wrote that he does use it for attack canceling, so that seems to be the exception.)
Yeah, L doesn't light up when he's doing the loops here. Just on some attack cancelling when he's fighting Ken.
I use R for most of my jumping and all of my attack canceling (falcon main)
I mean it's not project+ or melee, but hey it's up there...
Ok how the heck does Big D do all those fancy combos with near default controls?
Jeb Stuart they’re the default controls for a reason, they’re easy to use
What if there's a tournament that doesn't allow C-stick?
Is that the LEGO yoda death sound
And not a single R jump remapped. It’s so hard to play without ctilt and rjump now.
This was very satisfying
Please. Do one of these with Blucas. That'd be insane
How do you know if they used control stick+A or c stick for aerials? Or shield+A or grab button for grab, etc? Are you just guessing? I'm just curious. Cool video, I would move the controller to a corner if you do it again.
They said in the description that they asked the players of their habits, which would include those.
@@KevSB07 Didn't see that. Thanks!
Was Leo's leffobbling true? I've practiced almost that exact same input and it's not true when I do it... :(
It also looked like some of the he up airs were 3 instead of 4 🤷♀️ so I'm confused basically... If anyone's got any useful Joker drag down up air info, that'd be real useful!!
I think you need to be close to frame perfect on the fastfall, and it's only true on certain stages if I recall (or just different timings maybe?)
Is the lesson to use Tilt Stick?
3:20 Getting punished for landing a grab. Cool.
Shouldn't have grabbed
I really appreciate the massive work this video is, doods, but I think this undermines the dynamic appeal of Smash, and makes it look like an inferior Street Fighter, or god forbid an anime fighter.
Wow... Just wow
Hungry Box?
How do they hold the controller tho?
Thisssd
Jesus... Big D's is insane
Do voids sheik next
I want this track, these inputs are nice but this song is lit
It's really cool to see all the controller layouts and even cooler to see them in action
MKLeo having gun on his controller's right trigger is incredibly fitting
Arkatech explanation?
xclown6 you use your right finger to shoot a gun
xclown6 For his neutral-B, Joker wields a gun.
Some characters can benefit from this, and it may even make b-reverse way easier
@@xclown6 in shooting games shoot is the right trigger
Ayyy
You’re a god dude. When you see the inputs in action, it really makes me understand what it means to be a top player.
Why do I hear warios screams in the background
Erik Trakhtenberg I heard screaming too
Shoot... you weren't supposed to hear that
@@kaifulbright5241lmaooo

Maybe they lay out random Wario screams to avoid the song getting copyright struck lmao who knows
Every other character main: "Look, I've got to be precise, accurate, & strategic with how I play & what buttons I press."
Ice Climber mains: "I've played this character for a year & I've already got arthritis."
Grüner Inkling was clearly the real MVP here in this video! 💚
YESS!
Can we get one of these of just ZeRo mashing with Little Mac?
every button is just smash attack
@@jarlyd5565 u mean every button at once
Clicky Clacky!
I need this!
Just 4 minutes of zero flicking the c stick and mashing roll
I need a part 2 of this, this is crazy. Maybe including inputs for YB’s Dark Samus, Void’s Sheik, Nairo’s Palu, or Marss’s ZSS?
oh my gosh yes please, I thought I was the only one who wanted to see YB's controller setup, void would be sweet too
Please tea aswell
joe hall Tea’s inputs would be boring as hell, but that’s ok because that’s not what’s make him a great player.
Or Light's Fox
I believe Nairo uses the regular settings for the controller since his tag is always just player 1. Same for light too I believe
Next is ZeRo’s and the only controls of his that will be shown is L stick move, and R stick Smash Attack 😂
C-Stick goes Clicky Clacky !
Dorian Genin Clicky clacky
The more I watched the more stupid I felt for being that one guy putting jump on a shoulder button, until I saw ESAM doing so as well. Doesn't change I'm trash, but I feel less stupid now
For real are we the only ones jumping with L? Lol
@@LXPR777 at the beginning of ultimate i saw many playings using claw controls jumping with L or R, never done it tho
I use a pro controller and have jump on left bumper and I’ve never been able to use tap jump ever since
ok why is everyone using the left bumper to jump here? i always use zr (yes i'm a pro controller guy)
i use joycons and jump with xy, lol
I think Riddles’ Terry would be really interesting, especially when it comes to ledge trapping
*holding A intensifies*

I would have loved to have seen a Ken player shown here. His inputs are unreal

Exactly what i was thinking. This shit looks so uninteresting. Anyone can perform these inputs if u try for a good hour.
Agree. Though beefysmashdoods are no strange to the melee scene. Did the same type of video for how fast os wesballz, and that vid is awesome
@@LuisColumbu didnt they also do one for armada
Yessirrrr
Bunch of 9 year olds who think the game is so good
Some inputs are hard to see. Would suggest for a next video like this also showing the inputs as in the "How fast is meele?" video. Not necessarily adding the input explanation but would be a good addition :D

I think it's important to mention that Samsora uses Tap Jump too, it can be good to know
How tf does he not jump when he needs to float?
@@wigglytuffgaming You can float by pressing down on the control stick, so he can jump with X or Y and have his stick down so he floats and doesn't use his jump.
@@Mr.Camion wtf, that's way too complicated. Just turn off tap jump, it's fucking garbage anyways.
@@wigglytuffgaming Bro I didn't choose his controls, he can play with tap jump if he likes that
I knew it was going to be less than the melee inputs, but God, they were really far less than what I thought.
"How fast is ultimate"
Answer: Not that fast lmfao!
Betty Bros not meele
@@Byobmofo69 What does melee have to do with this lol
Betty Bros melee is the fastest smash game and is generally the measurement tool to decide a smash games speed due to its speed and popularity
@@lxvi2441
I know that, but I said the game wasnt fast, then he just says melee with no context lol.
Betty Bros he's just saying it's not melee as in it's not fast. i'm not sure where your confusion is coming from? "the burger was good but it wasn't amazing!" "it's not in n out" it's short but it makes sense
This is nothing compared to how fast my sister inputs when she's offstage
Anyone know how they use X/Y to jump and c stick for aerials so quickly? Do they use claw grip at all?
nice to know that top 10 ultimate players dont even compare to top 1000 melee players in apm
Dude, Shogun is SHMOOVING!! I would love to see Dark Wizzy's inputs.
Love the content Doods. Keep it coming!
So we not gonna have link combos in here? Aight
I'd like to issue a thank you for a slow and relaxing video on behalf of the melee community.
It’s kind of funny to see all these normies going ballistic in the comment section. Can’t wait till they see a glimpse of melee.
Melee players:
..but it doens't wave dash 😭
Underrated statement
Could've been faster if they fixed the buffer system...
Looks like Esam’s layout had jump and special backwards on x and y.
I was waiting to see some inputs from a young link main. HMMM i wONder hOW tHAt wOulD LOok lIke?
🔴🔴🔴🔴🔴🔴🔴🔴🔴🔴🔴🔴🔴🔴🔴
Honestly kind of laughably slow compared to other esports games.
Lol
And some people still think Smash lacks depth because it's a "2 buttons fighting game".
People say Virtua Fighter and DOA aren't deep because they're three button fighters. This is nothing new.
Some people in the FGC are so full of themselves lmao, and the Smash community is the one that gets called toxic
it has depth just not in the same way
yea but its not melee
To be fair melee is not 64 and smash 4 isn’t brawl
You should do a new one, with Riddles kazuya
You should do rivals of aether pro players next!
light, marss and nairo next time pls
Can you make a video of lucas players (including blucas) inputs
I'm not sure if the shown inputs are accounting for buffer? You certainly don't need to be THAT precise to pull off most of these things. Ultimate isn't so much about the mechanical skill required to pull off these things, but more about having and applying knowledge of match ups and adapting to opponents to set up these situations.
music kinda smooth! nice job
It’s true that this is kinda sad compared to Melee in terms of inputs but Ultimate has a lot of things people enjoy and we shouldn’t bother them because at the end of the day they are happy
I counted 72 samsora including the match breaks, if i had to guess the inputs per min then it would probably reach between 130 to 160 depending on how patient or aggressive both players are. When melee did the visual inputs, i remember seeing i think arpund 240ish so its not much of a difference
Anyone know Kola’s controller layout?
The inputs for a R.O.B. main would be pretty sick. I suggest BennyandtheJets he pulls off some really stylish stuff
3:33
Me: Hey, I could do that!
3:37
Me: ... Never mind...
How accurate is this? Were the controller inputs actually captured or is this a reasonable approximation to what they pressed? Great work either way!
Only in smash will the audience and announcers applaud somebody for picking a cheap character (joker), and then picking a stage that allows said cheap character to *spam an infinite combo*
Had this been any other FGT people wouldve been calling for leo to get DQd for consistently using infinites due to a stage glitch
Weird how ESAM alternates between L jump and Y jump... I was doing that when I switched to R jump, but taught myself to stop... maybe I should just let it happen?
Still can't touch the speed you get in Melee....that's the ULTIMATE Smash Bros. entry thus far.
Yeah the game is fast. But it has the highest amount of input lag ever seen in a Smash Game. Melee and 64 were responding super fast. Brawl already felt sluggish, this Smash game feels so delayed it's off-putting.
Make a part 2 with Void's Sheik. And Wrath's Sonic🌚🌚🌚
thats nothing just ask melee
Weird video title. This game isnt really about speedy hands at all so why highlight it. If you want to actually see impressively speedy inputs check out melee
Answer: not very
Btw no disrespect I enjoy watching and playing ultimate but it’s no where near fast input wise
Esam's controls are pretty weird
Who?
Funny you say that, because ESAM's controls are just the default layout but with tilt stick instead of smash stick.
@@t4m471 and he uses L for jump and X for special
L as jump is actually necessary for Pika because of attack cancelling, which pika needs for instant bairs out of dash. He also set x as special so he can jump and use thunder at the same time (allowing him to hit himself with it) by sliding his thumb.
Also they don't seem to have any diversity at all on there controller layout. Believe or not a Smash player his skill level was intermediate to advance but he played the GameCube controller upside down
Shogun is so cool to watch
apr is redundant, some are muscle memory and some is mashing(to get out of grabs and stuns), which isnt skill, but i will say smash is the least likely to fall into redundant apr
Hi
amparo esgoi hello
Clyde Clyde hi
Im not sure how reliable this is
Considering Cstick rebind to tilt is common
And a bunch of people use analog to jump
Ive herd esam say dont tilt stick
Skip to about 3 min in to his why samus vid
Now my point is how do you know thats how they do exactly those inputs
Not that i dislike the vid and i understand that its all just to show how fast the game is but still unless you asked thos playets exactly what there inputs wad those times how can you know
A video like this would be nice for showing how the competitive players mash.
