- Race tuned Suzuki RG 500 two stroke track bike on the dyno after piston replacement. Many thanks to Hampshire MV Agusta for allowing me to film and to Dan the RG owner.

One of the best vids I've seen on U-Toob. Absolutely breath-taking. Wow to produce an increase of 28hp from the stock 90hp is quite honestly phenomenal. Owner Dan would have the most fun possible racing the bike at Brands Hatch I bet.
Can't believe this was 9 years - where does the time go! Fired it up over the weekend - it might even make it back on the road in the next month or two before heading back to the track 🤞
What a sound. What a bike. Lovely
Yes it is Diego, doing a track day end of April with anther 500 coming so watch out for that one also :)
I love the smell of 2 stroke in the morning. It smells like powerband 💥
Great vid Lamb Chop! Here she is in action the following day: RG500 on-board Brands Hatch Indy 5th Oct 2014 TSGP Race 3
Love the middel pipes ! Best 500 bike ever.
My stock RG500 pulls very nicely up to its stock 10krpm redline with a bit of over-rev - the power valve opens at 7k-rpm, so you get ~3k-rpm of the fun stuff! It's been completely reliable to boot for 25,000km and counting! My RG250 does about the same... as does my RG-125 from about the same 1986 vintage. My RG-150 redlines at 12k-rpm... this is the stock redline that's shown on the factory tacho... the RG-150 is a 1997, so it's about 10+ years newer than the RG500, so some newer technology in there - including a counter-balancer... of course it's a single, so it needs it, and though you might think it's a small engine, it has a larger piston than the RG-500's gang of 125's (and the RG-250's pair of 125's, etc.)... Sure would have been fun to see where 2-strokes would be with another 10 - 20 years of technology poured on them... a gang of 4 RG-150's bolted together would get you a 600cc bike that would have been a hoot... Then again, my RG-200 (single) x 4 would get you an 800cc 2-stroke four cylinder! Yee-haw!
Had one before... did 128 hp at the Wheel and lots more Nm.
Okok..of was a 560 bored rg. And a lot of tuning and modifications.
Had one back in 87, not for everyone. Crazy fast and nothing will catch it. Sold it after it scared the pants off me.
Same story here, , when they were new in the dealers, few bought these future classics, they stuck to the floor of the showroom, riding an 500 you get carried away with the thrill and excitement, the consequences just vanish from your thoughts, when in the saddle, stopped riding my RG500 before it did me serious bodily harm
According to youtube experts this bike should have seized 10 times during the video due to engine breaking "because you starve the walls of oil in like half an rpm and you should always clutch and blip"
LOL
I had a quarter of one of those before & after I passed my test,
It was a fluffy muted flat spot turd in a tiny frame before I passed my test , (I preferred my RXS100- engine)
Then after I showed my full licence a very hard of hearing genius, took it in and drilled some stuff and told me a bit about oil mix and ( never trust auto oilers) and he said go steady... Arnold ways in notts...
It was just as choky spluttery as it was before but it sounded crisp and 5 times louder and clearer... but
after the spitty coughing crackling fartydead flat spot... an orgasmic thing occurred for 1.5-2 thousand revs or something!
aonther 5 or 6 BHP or... god knows.... wicked!
Hi, wondering what brand of tach that is your using? Love the built in shift light 👍👍
Nice vid and bike.
You need to revisit this Chops and other strokers… KR1 , RD350, 250 gamma, RD/RZV500, Aprillia RS 250 etc
I had the RG 250 but I never got to the RG 400 or 500 one of life's little regards
Great video - thanks for sharing!
Just listen to that induction!
I'm curious where people track down parts for these and RZ500's. It's probably easier to break into Buckingham Palace.
I had some RZ500 engine parts including the block, gears and cranks to name a few off a bike my dad parted out. They sold within an hour of posting at asking price and I was like holly shit!
One of the reasons i sold my rz500, parts were insane. Rg was a better bike. Rz was a neat bike, sounded amazing but reed cages looked like moped cages, took a lot of work to get good power, frame was a bloated pig.
I am Not surprised at the power figures this Legendary Machine made as removing the rear body work and replacing the seat with a modern man made material stuffing pillow is a stroke of genius:)
I would not however recommend sliding you ass off the seat in corners! lol
The video was fantastic and for a second I swear I could smell the wonderful aroma of Silkolene 2 stroke oil mmmmm.
He looks relaxed on top of that../...
Proper Chap
Runing in starts...How much time did you runing in for new parts, did you change pistons?
there's a workshop in my country that can manage to crank out 49hp out of a single cylinder 150 cc motor of kawasaki ninja 150 rr, based on this (imho) I think this rg hasn't reach it's full potential yet
asdfghjkl zxcvbnm are you from malaysia ?
That's not 150cc motor, they bored it out, increasing its displacement.
See the RG on Silverstone in action .... sorry private video pfff
3:27....
@Why is there still smoke in here"??
Bet it smelt nice in there
Sure did Spif :)
smelled*
Please turn on the fan???? What, are you kidding??? Huff that shit right down! Breathe deep.... That's 500cc two stroke son. Send it to me
RG 500 and that opposite L means Gamma.... Please note.
why didnt he push it all the way to the rev limit though?
Hasn't got a limiter
Was expecting a little more than 118 from it
if the cylinders were fully ported depending on the case and with a tighter squish it could probably see 150+, but i bet this bike has a very wide power band and is pretty reliable with the current tune
The most powerful RG 500 was about 146RWHP. I read it somewhere...
@@m5a1stuart83 nice ! I had a standard rg 500 ....felt quick but not rapid . Some doughnut reckoned you can 130hp from a RD 350 !!
And to think the GP factory bikes had well over 150hp.
You can tune these to 145
Proper modified cdi, crankshaft, piston bore, block and exhaust... can get more than 200hp...
Two strokes much better sound than 4 stroke
Castor! Mummmmm.
I see someone likes Tsingtao!!!!
Hehe yeah, bike made an extra 10 bhp when we ran it on Tsingtao!
My dreams😦
Don’t waste five minutes-jump to 5:07
RG 500 only rev to 9500 rpm
IF rebuild with modern technology.
Crankshaft ,flywheel ,balance gear.......
It should be a 1X000 RPM monster.
hcmpe yang not really, it isn't that profitable to rev that high with big engines, smaller engines (50cc's) do need to rev that high. but you should look into Rotating Inlets and Kreidler Van veen's, also search for a channel called 'RVRT' it's a dutch 50cc tuner.
One day I will buy a gamma 5...
hp?
It's at the end mico, 110 I think it was...
118 to the back tire.
What exhausts are they?
Sorry timebomb not sure..
